The ASB Reffing Tower
Welcome to the Reffing Tower: a vital part of the ASB community. If you are an approved ASBer and you want to earn points as an official ref, then look at the mock battle below and try it out! You can also try out as a contest judge: more information is below. Here you may request a ref, offer your services, keep your ref record up to date and apply for a position. All other information is below, but if there is anything else you want to know, PM a moderator and we'll help you out.
What Are Referees?
A referee is the person who interprets the attacks made by all battlers and decides exactly what effect they have, before writing out a descriptive piece detailing the battle. Referees have the power to decide who wins a battle, and are therefore entrusted with great responsibility. As a referee, you are expected to be unbiased and consistent.
Reffing A Battle
While reffing a battle, you are required to give a description of how you see each attack panning out. This gives the referee a lot of freedom to write creatively, and the battlers the freedom to be far more strategic and clever in their battle plans than the games ever do. And because of this, you will often see many attacks interpreted differently by different referees, in different situations. It is perfectly acceptable that you ref your attacks differently than others would, as long as it remains unbiased, consistent and logical.
The most important factor when reffing, is to remember what game you are playing. This is ASB, not Pokemon Red, Gold or Sapphire. Damage should never be pre-calculated; attacks do not have set amounts of damage. When an attack is used, you should take into account things such as accuracy of the attack (whether it hit full on, or just brushed the opponent) and the type of the opponent (water attacks do more damage to fire types)
If you are at any time unsure of how to ref an attack, look at the ASB Attack List for a good guide. However this is merely a guide and does not have to be followed exactly.
Another important thing to know about is "damage caps." It is generally recommended that ASB refs apply a 30-50% damage cap during all normal battles (unless the battlers request it be removed). The most widely used value is 40%. A damage cap simply means that a pokémon cannot receive more than that set amount of damage in one round, regardless of any and all circumstances. Damage caps are completely omitted in events such as Gym Leader/Tourney battles (esp. since damage is purposely increased there).
If you receive complaints about your reffing, you are expected to explain your actions to the battlers, so that everybody knows where they stand. If as a battler, you feel a ref’s explanation is biased, or unfair, report to the head ref who will sort the issue out and have the final say.
The Reffing Tower
The Reffing Tower is where you come to become an approved ref. The difference between an approved ref and an unapproved ref is quite simple: an approved ref gets extra rewards for their reffing. Therefore, you can choose to be an unapproved ref and gain the same amount of points from a battle that an approved ref gains but you will not get extra awards and may be at risk of being fired due to poor reffing quality. Approved refs are ranked, depending on their ability and their activeness. There are four difference attainable ranks, those being Rookie, Intermediate, Advanced and Master. There is also the Head ref, a position a few core individuals hold, they have the final say on every reffing matter. If you have any complaints about reffing, you go to them.
The reffing tower is also used to request a referee. If you wish to request a new or sub ref, please post a link to the battle, saying whether you require a new ref or a sub ref.
Becoming A Ref
To become an approved ref, you must ref the mock battle at the bottom of this post. The Head ref will then analyze your reffing, and decide whether or not you are worthy of a spot as an approved ref. A newly approved ref will start off in either Rookie or Intermediate level; this is at the Head Ref’s discretion. If you fail the test, you must wait for a new mock battle before attempting again. If you just joined ASB, it would beneficial to you if you viewed other reffings before jumping in on your own. It’s not mandatory but it would help you see how the reffings are done.
Now That You're A Ref...
If you wish to gain promotion, then you must ref the current mock battle (provided you haven't already reffed it). Please also include what rank you are currently, and what rank you are attempting to achieve. When deciding whether you are worthy of promotion, the head ref will also study your general performance, to ensure you are reffing all battles at a good enough quality. It is also possible to be promoted due to sheer hard work.
You must always post links to the battles you are currently reffing to receive your reward, and update your posts every few rounds at least. You should keep all this information in one post, until the head ref posts a new mock battle (this will be in a new post too); then you can make a new post.
As a referee, you are expected to be active. If you go for an extended period of time without reffing (unless you’ve posted in the Absence Tower), you will be either demoted or fired and will have to re-do a mock reffing in order to be rehired.
Rewards
Point allocation goes as follows.
In the past: If you were reffing a ten on ten match, but only reach the 4th Pokemon from each contestant, and the battle ends in DQ or forfeit, you would not receive any points.
Currently: If you were reffing a ten on ten match, but only reach the 4th Pokemon from each contestant, and the battle ends in DQ or forfeit, you receive the amount of points had that been a 4 on 4 battle. (in this case 8).
However, since the match was started as a ten-on-ten, you do not get and credit for it being a reward battle, since it was not half over
In the past: If you were sub-reffing a battle, you would get no points if you did not complete at least half the battle.
Currently: When the battle is over, take into account the number of rounds, and the amount of people who reffed. If any ref did less that 1/(number of refs) rounds, they get no points. Otherwise, split it down evenly. Round down.
Your reward for being an approved ref depends on the rank your in and thus the amount of battles you need to complete in order to claim a reward. In the case of a DQ or forfeit, the battle has to be at least half completed (ex: if there is a DQ in a 4 on 4, at least 2 Pokemon have to have been knocked out in order for you to use it as a reward link). When you have reached the required amount, please post links to all the battles, and the Head Ref will then approve your prize. This is the battle amount each rank needs to complete before coming to the head ref:

Things to Consider
- Try our ASB Movelist to check on moves.
- Remember that we ASB-mods like to set you up, so read and ref carefully!
- Take all stats into consideration.

Contest Refs / Judges
Now that Contests are flourishing in ASB, it has come to my attention that we should have people who are able to ref contests asides from myself (Darkestlight). More information on Contests is here (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/index.php?topic=42768.0).
Just like with battles, to be an approved Contest Judge you must ref a mock battle. See below for the Mock Contest and post here in this Tower to get your Mock Contest checked. There will be similar (albeit condensed) ranks for Judges as much of it is down to opinion and personal takes on things.* Again, check below. This Mock Contest will, like Battles, be updated to ensure you can gain promotion.
Any questions PM Darkestlight. Remember, if, when reffing a Contest, you do not think a combo is feasible, then you are in your right to say that a combo would not work. (Eg...Thunderbolt and Flamethrower together, you get the picture. Or something just mind-boggling) If any arguments occur PM me and I shall determine whether or not the attack combo could be pulled off.
A reffed Contest can go in your reffing status just like any other reffing. You can use it towards your reffing quota. Point prizes and such are all in the link above.
Current Mock Contest
Please ref this contest. For those wondering how, you simply type out how the attacks are seen/work in the contest. See the current and past Pokemon Contests for any pointers. Ref the attacks, how well they work (for example, using thrash may over-excite the Pokemon, or something may go unplanned) and give it a score out of 10.00 for each Co-ordinator/Trainer.

NOTES
Remember not all appeals are big flashy colourful attacks. They are about showcasing a Pokemon’s personality and character. If, for example, a Pokemon is sinister and creepy, and the appeal gives that effect, give it a good mark!
In light of that, appeals that combine different colours or moods should also receive some credit. But physical appeals, which are rare in contests, should still receive credit even if they’re not flashy.
If for example, you saw a Rapidash racing along showing impeccable speed, flames trailing behind it…it’s beautiful, no? Or if a Mightyena used roar, it’s scary, and focuses on its characteristics.
These are useful pointers for budding Judges.

Ore's eyes glow light blue and from out of nowhere (damn anime physics), a torrent of snow came thick and fast. Golem and Brock gave a gasp of surprise but Golem was swept up. Ore grinned...but the earth beneath him exploded, sending him flying. He landed with a thud whilst Golem emerged from the snow, shivering.
[Golem: -15% health, -7% energy]
*Speed +2, Toxicated*
[Ore: -16% health, -9% energy]
*Attack +1, Defense +1*
Golem shakes off the snow and gives a great roar. He charges at Ore, crunching the layer of fresh snow, fist glowing white. Ore, meanwhile, was creating a sphere of energy in between his hands. Golem punches Ore...and misses. Out of the corner of his eye, Golem sees Ore grins. Golem then cries out in pain as the Focus Blast is thrust into him at close range. A mini explosion blasts him back and he goes flying across the snow like a giant snowball. Some of his shell had been chipped off! Golem growled.
[Golem: -23% health, -6% energy]
*Speed +2, Toxicated, Defense -1*
[Ore: -0% health, -9% energy]
*Attack +1, Defense +1*
Golem lies on the floor for a second before breaking on in breakdance...no wait...he's spinning in a ball. Ore seems to be flexing his right arm and limbering himself up. Golem begins to spin (cycle :D ) towards Ore. Ore comes up with an idea, and grins at how brilliant it is. Golem gets closer and closer and then Ore gives a mighty roar. He slams his arm down onto Golem and makes the ground around them shake. Golem gives a shriek of pain before slamming into Ore. Another stab of pain tells him the poison is becoming intense. Golem then whimpers as that was the last of his strength. He collapses on the ground, knocked out.
[Golem: -30% health, -6% energy]
*X_X*
[Ore: -12% health, -9% energy]

Ok, rossy.
First off, Avalanche is a slow move. It has a -4 speed reduction in the games and relies on taking damage for its uber-attack. Golem has a 2/6 speed bonus which would've automatically put golem's attack in first and boosting Avalanche's power the second Earth Power hits Ore.
Also, -16HP for Earthpower and -23HP for Focusblast seems a bit much. Especially because neither of them has boosted stats to accompagny those attacks.
Hammer Arm reduces speed. You should've mentioned that in the end, because now I have no way of knowing if you knew about the speed-reduction and didn't type it up because it's just a mock-battle; or if you just forgot about it.
The battle was reffed on a good base, the text is easy on the eyes and reads fluently. You have a good sense of humor to spice up the reffing and that shows in this mock-battle.
So, you ref good and constantly, but on the errors you made today I'm not going to promote you to Master Ref. You need some more expierence in my eyes.
Try again next mock-battle!
Rossymore

Hmm...not surprised I wasn't promoted.
The attacks did that sort of damage because they were supereffective.
I thought that would have been obvious, so their damage was doubled. I knew about the speed reduction but that's put in at the start of next round. I should have put something in the round that said something about it.
Focus Blast did that large amount of damage since it was at close range...very close range.
For Avalanche: I think anime and not game...my bad.

Golem glows as brownish light seems to come out of the floor. Golem absorbs it and a beam shoots out of his mouth. (-4EP Golem) Ore shudders as the beam impales him and he feels his defense boost disappear. {-12HP; Defense -1 Ore)
Not happy at all with such a painful hit, Ore decides he can play the type weakness game too! Time to make a rocksicle. He waves his arms toward the living boulder and snow pours in through the windows, breaking the glass. This felt so unnatural for him. (-7EP Ore) Unfortunately, the snow missed Golem completely! Brock scowled at the huge pile of snow and broken glass.
Now Ore was irritated. He focused and a darker brown beam shot from his hand. (-9EP Ore) It slammed into Golem, knocking him back. (-15HP Golem)
Golem retaliates by moving up to him and swinging his arm. Unfortunately it's his turn to miss entirely. (-5EP Golem)
Ore copied his foe's motion and landed a fist atop Golem's head. [-7HP Golem) The Rampardos took a breath, feeling a bit more sluggish. (-8EN; Speed -1 Ore) Golem backed up a few steps and flung a steel ball that appeared in his hand. (-6EP Golem) It connected for some nice damage. (-10HP Ore)
Golem rumbles as he feels the toxic eat away at him. (-8HP Golem)

7HP for Hammer Arm is to low considering Golem has a weakness to Fighting attacks. I'm also dazzeled by the fact that an Avalanche can miss, but the rest of your energy and health calculations were pretty accurate.
You're approved as a rookie ref, so go nuts!
Metallixs Girl
7th January 2010, 03:22 PM
Thanks! :) Yeah, about Avalanche, I was using the ASB Movelist doing all the attacks and on the movelist it has Avalanche's accuracy as Good as apposed to Excellent, so I did an accuracy roll on it and it just so happened to miss. Later I happened to see that Avalanche has a 100 acc in the games, so I guess I'll use the game stats from now on. Hammer Arm was a mistake on my part. ^^

Pewter City Gym Leader Brock: "You think you can just claim my gym? I've only lost once to you, that's enough! Golem, start with Earthpower, then use that distraction to get close and hit it with Dynamicpunch. Finish it up with with Gyro Ball!"
Rocking Rocker MLG: "Your foolish rock pokemon are no match for my rocks, silly amateur. This gym is mine, for once and for all! Ore, Avalanche. When it's trying to escape the snow and attack you, hit it with Focusblast. Put an end to it with Hammer Arm!"
~*~*~*~*~*~
The two combatants waste no time as the battle drags on! Golem, with his superior speed, uses the earthy terrain in the gym battlefield to his advantage with Earth Power, lobbing the substances beneath Ore’s feet at him. However, Golem fell into Ore’s trap, since he readied an Avalanche beforehand, and a tidal wave of snow and ice comes crashing down on the giant turtle-esque turtle.
Golem: -21 HP, -8 EN
Ore: -9 HP, -12 EN
With the slight sound of sloshing snow, Golem pops his head out of the massive load of… cold wet stuff. He charges toward Ore with a Dynamic Punch, but completely misses his mark, leaving him open for a direct Focus Blast, which looked… more than painful.
Golem:-22 HP, -4 EN, -1 Sp. Def.
Ore: -0 HP, -8 EN
Alrighty! Third time’s the charm! We can do this! ...or not. Golem hurled a Gyro Ball at Ore, but it didn’t do much damage, since he was so slow. Ore shrugged off the hit and thonked Golem on the head, almost in a bored fashion. He didn’t quite finish him off, but he came quite close!

Gonna apply for reffing work. Seems fun, and good English practice :eng101:

Mock Battle
Round :201u::201n::201k::201n::201o::201w::201n:
Arena: Pewter City GYM.

Attack +2 | Defense +2

53 HP 45 EN

The round starts off, with a speedy golem suddenly stopping. Unfortunately for Ore, the ground doesn't, as a wave of dirt hurtles across the arena. Ore doesn't bother trying to get a grip, but lets the force push him back as he calls upon an avalance attack. Golem chills in the blast, skidding on the now icy floor.
~ -20 HP, -6 EN Golem | -14HP, -11 EN Ore ~
Somewhat cold, Golem regains his footing. He focuses on Rampardos, before crarging in with a Dynamic Punch. Unfortunately, somebody ignored the flashing lights saying that the floor was not the best for gripping on to things. Instead of hitting the rampardos, he spins round and round, and desrtoys a very large rock. Hey, at least it isn't too bad, as the icy floor is gritted. Ore meanwhile, charges up a batch of energy, and flings it in Golems general direction. That would have worked, but it seems nobody enjoyed the results of the ice show, as Golem dodges.
~ -7 EN Golem | -10 EN Ore ~
Now the pair is really wound up, and that means fun time is around the corner. Golem charges up a large iron ball, and flings it towards Ore. It travels fast, breaking up some of the underfoot ice, before hitting Ore at great speed. For some reason, the impact seems weaker than before. Shaking it off, Ore rushes in with a giant fist, crashing down on Golem and spreading the stattered ice everywhere. Like the piece that jusst ruined my refs flag. SOMEBODY is going to have to pay for that one. And by that, i don't mean Ore's speed drop. That does not count.
~ -20 HP, -3 EN Golem | -8 HP, -12 EN Speed - 1, Ore ~
The toxic also didn't help.

You should put the given commands with the pokemon in the pre-battle stats. Asides from that you should put up the nickname of the pokemon, it's species and gender. This makes things a little clearer for the reader. Just write as if people would know nothing about the match and they view it for the first time. Sprites help too.
Besides stat-problems, I don't see any major flaws in damage calculation or writing. Actually I enjoyed your writing.
So you're approved as a Rookie Ref, go get them tiger!

The two cutthroat Rock-types face off for the next round. Golem careens forth and fires off a beam of energy Ore’s way. Grunting, the Rampardos bears the attack before closing its eyes. A white-blue glow surroundings him as, without warning, shards of ice and swells of snow come bursting through the arena’s windows. Winter begins to fill the arena and, boy, Golem feels it.

Golem goes skidding forth, ready to pay Ore back for that last one. A fierce energy suffuses his fist as he approaches Ore, but a patch of ice gets in his way and, bam, Golem is suddenly on his back like an upturned Ledyba. Taking advantage of his foe’s misfortune, Ore responds with a Focusblast right to the kisser.

Blushing, Golem finally pulls himself to his feet. Now cautious, he crosses the battlefield gingerly, launching a silver sphere right at Ore. Not willing to be outdone, the Rampardos crosses the arena in two great lunges and brings his arm down right on Golem’s rocky carapace. Ouchies.

The gym battle continues as Golem goes for an Earth Power. Gathering as much Ground energy as he can manage, he forms it into a ball close to his size, and throws it toward Ore. Ore, upon taking the hard hit, decides payback is in order...icy cold payback that is, as he retailiates with a powerful Avalanche that makes Golem slide toward the wall. Talk about being a rock Pokemon caught between a wall and a really cold place!
Golem: -12 Health, -6 Energy, Speed +2, is buried in a thick mound of snow and ice
Ore: -8 Health, -10 Energy, Attack +1, Defense +1
Furiously trying to free himself from his predicament, Golem begins to throw snow out of the way quickly, with the help of his glowing fists...but at that moment he doesn't immediately notice Ore forming a Focus Blast in his massive claws. The explosive projectile is fired at Golem, slamming into him and making him cringe in pain...but the resulting explosion helps to speed up Golem's escape from the snow, and he slowly but steadily comes at Ore with his Dynamicpunch, smacking the Rampardos hard and making him feel disoriented after that strong hit.
Golem: -14 Health, -9 Energy, Speed +2, managed to get out of the snow
Ore: -8 Health, -11 Energy, Attack +1, Defense +1, Confused
With only a little bit of snow remaining on his rock-hard body, Golem stretches out both his arms, making them harden even more with a glint of silver, before rapidly spinning almost like a tornado, bashing into Ore with his Gyro Ball, causing the Rampardos to roar in pain. Despite still feeling disoriented, Ore isn't about to let that strike come to him without delivering some payback, and proceeds to use a Hammer Arm on Golem, concentrating a great deal of energy into his arm before slamming it with all his strength onto Golem. The stress though from using such a move does get to Ore however, as he feels his speed take a reduction blow. Meanwhile, Golem winces in pain, as the poison in his system saps some more health from him.
Golem: -19 Health (11 from the Hammer Arm, 8 from the poison), -7 Energy
Ore: -6 Health, -10 Energy, Attack +1, Defense +1, Confused, Speed -1

Oslo, good overal. The reading wasn't over-spectacular, but the reffing was done efficiently. A few remarks, 4EN is a bit low for Earthpower, but it can pass, depending on how you interprete STAB etc. However, Hammer Arm reduces the speed of the user, not the foe. And Gyroball's damage depends on the speed of the foe. The faster the opponent, the more damage.
Anyway, enough nitpicking, you're approved! Go nuts.
Kyle, you've been a staple ref here since you restarted and I'm certainly going to promote you for your hard work. Ofcourse, that would be unfair to just base promotions on hard work, but you're mockreffing is also flawless. Good job. Go nuts aswell.
NOW REF YOU TWO, DAMMIT!

Sorry Kuro, I have no excuse! I did take a look at your reffing though, and I'll approve you as an Advanced Ref. I saw no major flaws anywhere, but it was a bit short, though. The initial damage looked a bit high, but I assumed you used higher numbers for a Gym match.

The round begins with Golem calling apon a mass of lava and rocks. They geyser up below Ore and he shoots up towards the ceiling! Ore then falls and lands on the ground with a lovely thump. Ticked off, Ore sends a wave of snow and ice crystals which sweeps above golem. But the ground is still hot from golem's earth power, causing the snow and ice to melt. Leaving our two rocky heroes under a pool of water!

Because they are rock type, they both are awful at swimming! They both sink to the bottom and Golem begins by charging Ore with a glowing white fist. Well, charging isn't the right word, more like slowly approaching. While approaching a ball of concentrated energy begins forming in Ore's mouth. Golem finally arrives at his destination and swings his fist of energy towards Ore's gut. It hits and afterward Ore blindly releases a BLAST of energy. But to no avail, it misses and blows a hole in the side of the gym. Ore is now acting quite silly and bedazzled. It just walks around in circles with stars floating over its head.

MOVE 3
Golem, in a wonderful mood. Suddenly creates a ball of steel in his hand, then pegs it straight towards Ore. Being confused must really suck. Golem feels weakend because of the toxic.

Dabsaww: The damage of Dynamicpunch was quite low, and the energy for Focusblast was too high. Besides from that, a good first reffing, so I'm gonna approve you as a Rookie Ref. Look at movelist when you're reffing and keep the damage/energy levels in mind. Have fun!
Spade: I'm also gonna approve you as a rookie ref. The damage and energy levels were nicely distributed, but I'm gonna have to ask you to write up the text some more. It's a tad unoriginal and a bit short too. Besides from that, go nuts.

OK, I'm gonna give reffing a go again, see how well I fare. It's been a long time since I wrote pokemon battles (no really, I haven't even done a pokemon RPG in ages). Dunno why there are massive spaces appearing, must have something to do with the table tags I'm using.

ROUND BEGIN
With the title of Pewter Gym Leader hanging in the balance, neither trainer is letting up in this battle of the rock titans. With Golem shining like a christmas tree decoration after consecutive use of Rock Polish in the previous rounds it's raring to go despite suffering from a nasty poisoning. Staring down its opponent, the reanimated fossil pokemon Ramparados, Golem roars and raises it's stubby arms into the air. Globules of fluidic light bubble up from the ground followed swiftly by chunks of earth and stone formed out of pure seismic energy. They hover in the air for a second, before every single one flies at the tyrannic pokemon, slamming into it's chest at the exact same time. Ore stumbles backgrounds growling at the scar the impact leaves, but a twinkle in his eye shows he's not ready to back down. With a roar equalling his foes, Ore summons a raging blizzard. The windows of the gym shatter as ice and snow crash against the walls, and an avalanche piles in over Golem, partially burying the astounded pokemon.

Trapped beneath the weight of the snow, Golem struggles to regain his footing, but digging yourself out of heavy snow takes time, and that's exactly what MLG and Ore were hoping for. With a target unable to move very far and very fast, Ore closes his eyes and focuses his mind. Within his thoughts he sees his opponent, he visualises the weak points, he prepares his target and he is ready. Energy builds up around him as the preperations take place, a build up that does not go unnoticed by the opponents. Brock yells out to Golem, but the rock type is still pulling himself free of the snow pile. It's too little too late, as Ore unleashes his attack, a precise and focused attack of concentrated energy. It blows Golem out of the snow completely, obliterating the fluffy stuff surrounding him and leaving the Gym Leader's prized pokemon leaning against the back wall of the gym, outer shell clearly worse for wear.
http://www.gtsplus.net/files/images/sprites/icons/076.gif-12% HP-3% NG | -6% NG-0% HPhttp://www.gtsplus.net/files/images/sprites/sicons/409.gif
Rockin Rocker that he is, MLG lets loose a couple of notes and the crowd goes wild. Brock is fuming but is still showing the Gym Leader poise and not rising to a throwing insults. Rising to it's feet, Golem curls itself into a ball. No amount of stone cracking or snow falling is going to put it off winning this battle. As the pokemon begins spinning on the spot, a metallic shimmer passes over the pokemon and the sound of gravel crunching is replaced with a metallic whine. Ore holds his ground. He holds out his clawed arms ready for attack. Precision is again what he needs, but an opponent not moving is exactly what Golem wants to. Golem suddenly springs forward, and like a wrecking ball heading for a building speeds, spinning rapidly, towards Ore. Seconds before impact, Ore slams his fist outwards and the two collide perfectly. What happens when an unstoppable force hits an unmoveable object? The crowd and the trainers dive for voer as rock, metal and ice goes flying everywhere. When the dust settles, Golem is clutching his body as it's showing signs of heavy damage, wincing as the poison takes this opportunity to seep further into his veins. Ore on the other hand uses his tail to regain a balance, but looks a lot less steady on his feet than before.

The table tags are stupid.
You can't have any line breaks between them.
So they need to be in one long ugly line of code.
But hey, it's better than nothing :O.

Well, the damage and energy calculations were done quite decently, no major mistakes, although Avalanche didn't do as much as I expected (supereffectiveness, Ore got hit first, and boosted attack stat), but besides that nothing big.
I would like to see some more flavor text, though. The reffing itself was ok, but not very amusing to read. I'm sure you can use some of that Mt.Moon postingstyle for your reffings, Ayeun.
Nonetheless approved as a rookie-ref!

We begin with Kicker moving into range of Death. She watches him then cries out in surprise when Kicker suddenly rolls around her then lashes out with a foot, kicking her in the back. Death is knocked forwards and she hits the floor. She gets back up and uses the POWAH OFF POSEIDON to unleash a bubbly wave of doom on Kicker...pity it was a clone.

Now Kicker goes for a different approach. He sets his foot on fire and then kicks at Death. Death recoils slightly then blinks twice. She wasn't really hurt at all. Doesn't that thing know about type weaknesses? She shrugs, then explodes into a cloud of sand. Kicker is taken aback slightly and watches the sand rip apart his clones. He also couldn't see Death in this weather, but Death could see him.

[Six-Legged Death: -2% health, -10% energy]

Kicker looks around, trying to see Death. That thing doesn't have Sand Veil dammit. He sees a figure in the sand and goes for it, running with all of his might, he leaps up and kicks down, fists ready as well. His attack hits Death, who cries out. She cringes from the blows that are dealt to her, but is secretly preparing her next attack. Though it still bloody hurts. Kicker stops to take a breather and is blasted, up front, with a powerful blast of wind. Kicker cries out and is thrown back, landing hard. The sand also scrapes against him. This is going to be great fun...

‡ Round ??? ‡
Good day, ladies and gents! We find ourselves perched upon a mountaintop as we observe a battle in progress between Kung-Fu Katy’s wily Hitmonlee and Ninja Charles’s erroneously-named Kabutop. The air is cool, the combatants are limber and the preamble is bland/mildly irritating. Folks, let’s get this show on the road!
Kicker and his band of merry clones prepare to lead off, but a swell of hail hampers their plan. As the wee specks of ice tear through the clones, Kicker finds himself a little on the lonely side all of a sudden. Still, the wily Hitmonlee chooses to persevere as he tucks himself into a tidy little roll (those years of gymnastics paid off!) and manages to eek past his foe’s defences to land a powerful kick. Though Kicker looks for vulnerable places on Six-legged Death’s body to target, the Kabutops’s impenetrable Battle Armour makes this effort futile. Six-legged Death grunts nonetheless. Retaliating, she commands a Brine and… uh, wait? We’re on a mountaintop… where’s the water gonna come from? Better question: What’s that rumbling sou—
Suddenly, age-old geysers beneath the earth awaken and fire a streak of foamy water straight into the air! Egads! Kicker is launched skyward by the cascade and lands on the ground with a not-so-pleasant-sounding thud.
Kicker: <-9 HP; -6 EP; -3 clones>
SLD: <-12 HP; -6 EP>
Pulling himself to his feet, Kicker doesn’t seem ready to relent. It’s on! Foot blazing, Kicker sprints toward his foe and lands a fiery Chuck Norris-style kick, though the move seems to leave Six-legged Death relatively unfazed. Laaame. The Kabutops raises her twin sickles skyward and commands tiny motes of sand to come surging forth. The hail and sand make a curious but potent combo as they swirl around the battle.
Kicker: <-5 EP>
SLD: <-1 HP; -4 EP>
With sand and hail obscuring his vision, Kicker, unsure where his foe might be, creeps forward. Suddenly, he stubs his toe on what he believes to be a primordial sickled mollusk thing but is really just a pile of rocks. Blindness sucks, eh? As he cluelessly pummels the bajeebuz out of those rocks, Six-legged Death snickers as she swings her twin sickles with vigour. Concentrated blades of air slice their way toward Kicker and throw the Kabutops straight into the side of the mountain. Ouchies.

And so another round of action begins as this ref stands in the radiant heat of his Houndoom as in front of him, a Kung Fu Girl named Katy and her Hitmonlee are taking on a Ninja named Charles and his Kabutops, the trainers issue their next set of commands, and the fight continues!
Unfortunately for Kicker, the pellets of hail bombard his clones, causing them to dissipate and the real Hitmonlee is revealed! Six-Legged death looks watches as the clones dissipate, and then turns back to Kicker, only to notice that Kicker is suddenly right in front of her in a ball, which proceeds to jump into the air and a foot smashes down on Six-Legged Deaths head. She takes some damage, but avoids anything critical due to her ability. Shrugging off the hit, her eyes start to glow as the moisture and water from all the dropping hail, as well as some summoned water creates a massive wave that smashes into the Hitmonlee, sending it rolling on the ground in the opposite direction!
Kicker: -10 HP, -5 EN/ -6 HP, -7 EN :Six-Legged Death
Reeling from the last hit, Kicker runs forth again and jumps into the air, revolves once and extends his leg, which glows a slightly reddish color and lands on the Kabutops, but once again, Six-Legged Death seems to shrug this one off as well....as it was fire energy! She kicks up a melee of sand and dirt to join the already massive barrage of Ice.
Kicker: -0 HP, -6 EN/ -4 HP, -4 EN :Six-Legged Death
Not entirely enjoying how this is going, Kicker gets up close and shows off his Taijutsu! Kicks land all around the Kabutops who has gone into a defensive stance....or has she? Suddenly, she unleashes a burst of slicing wind, greatly damaging the Hitmonlee and sending him flying. As the round comes to a close, the combination of the elements assaults the two pokemon, Hitmonlee moreso as Kabutops doesnt feel the sand!

"Well see, this will start to make the land sag! We gotta help. Sloth, Fissure to make a ditch! As it fills, Stealth Rock to close the hole and end with Rock Smash to hide it all!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Appeals!
Environmentalist Blade and FlipFlop (M)
Contestant Blade approaches the stage and sends forth his Lumineon flopping onto one of the planks. The Judge watches as the fish begins to glow and split into 5 Lumineons on the nearby planks. The five fish then shoot up pulsating rings of water into the air and flop into the air through the rings beautifully before landing in the tar, stuck! It then begins to flail about violently trying to break free of the tar, and as the clones dissapear, Flipflop breaks free and lands gracefully on the plank. The audience breaks into mad applause as the next contestant approaches.
~*~
Bp Bigwig Elf and Coverup (M)
The Bp Bigwig walks forward and sends forth his Murkrow onto the planks. The Murkrow opens his mouth and issues an icy haze over the field, obscuring the view. Suddenly, an icy breeze circulates through the crows and the cloud begins to glitter, until it dissipates and we see Murkrow once again, who then proceeds to issue a blinding ray, making the audience cover their eyes and gasp as the appeal comes to a close.
~*~
Geologist Denz and Sloth(F)
Geologist Denz approaches the field and the stunned crowd and sends forth his Shieldon, Sloth. The Shieldon jumps to the edge of the arena and strikes down with a massive force, causing a crack to appear in middle of the arena, the tar slowly moving to fill it and the planks moving as well. So Shieldon then moves around and starts tossing the planks to create a sort of bridge over the crack. Standing on the now empty pit, she hops over and begins smashing each of the planks, filling the crevice with the wood and completely filling the crack with a mulchlike substance. The crowd seems pleased!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Points:
Environmentalist Blade and FlipFlop (M)
Lumineon was an odd choice for this stage. Double team is generally a quick move and doesnt provide too much appeal, but the collection of aqua rings and the dive was very pretty. The flailing about really made me think about a fish out of water, but the ending was nice, though I wasnt sure whether you wanted the clones to survive or showcase the power of the real one.
7.5 out of 10
~*~
Bp Bigwig Elf and Coverup (M)
The blackbird with the black tar seemed appropriate, but the icy haze the issued from it was very nice when it began to sparkle, but too bad the haze dissipated. The confuse ray added a nice shocking sparkle, and left the audience, and myself, speechless.
7 out of 10
~*~
Geologist Denz and Sloth(F)
A spectacular appeal. You greatly showcased Shieldon with the fissure and used the planks to great effect! You know how to showcase your pokemon, and completely eliminated the tar!
9.5 out of 10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Results:
Denz and Sloth: 9.5
Blade and Flipflop: 7.5
The round starts and Six-legged Death stares the four Hitmonlees, meanwhile hail falls all around them. One of the Hitmonlee, the actual Kicker, suddenly drops into roll towards Death. He then comes up and kicks death in the face. Six-legged Death is caught off guard by this and it takes her a minute to recover. I hopped over here for Muggles
Note: When doing a Mock Reffing, remember that its not just about the stat calculation-or what the person did before you,. You might come out with the same result, but you can definitely get there in different ways. We are looking for ingenuity and creativity alongside brevity and damage calculation.
That being said
Rossy: Yer at Expert level right. Yet, you missed a key element in the reffing-which I knew was going to be overlooked cause I'm evil like that.
How're there clones there if there's a hailstorm? AAAAAKa. AAAAAKA. But you've been reffing consistently for over 6 months. I'm on the fence, so we'll let Muggles look it over as well. My answer is I'm not sure where you could improve-because it feels like something is off...just something small.
Oslo: I'm not sure what level you are, but I'm pretty sure we can move you up once more. However, the one thing I want to point out for you as well was the weather aspect.
I know the instructions said Hail falls constantly, but that means when you change the weather, the hail will be replaced-until the other weather pattern changes, at which point it will return. That however was a subjective decision on your part that you included in your reffing. I made sure to not hold that against you (or anyone else..as that was not stated clearly). I say you can move up a stage, no problem. Intermediate easy. Hell you shoulda been moved up a while ago, now that I think about it...
Green Lanturn: The same goes for you. Your reffing style is solid enough. You intrepreted enough elements of the battle to be consistent, and wtf everyone is using these badass Kabutops sprites.. I say yes to you being a Rookie Ref. Mlg can come in and bump you higher via this reffing if he feels its ok.
Spade: Here's the catch-Double Team. The Hail and the Sandstorm each would have dispelled of the clones, since the clones are not solid. I would have promoted you if you had just forgotten about the hail-but you also had the Sandstorm active, and yet the clones were still existing. So I'm gonna keep you at Rookie for now.
But don't think we haven't been seeing your reffing greatly improve over these last few months. The new Mock will be up soon, so please try. I'm definitely sure you will make it.
Zergling2005: Man I like your style, and yeah that formatting is not fun. That's all kids of crazyness. Your damage and your stats are great-and you got most every element of trickery I had in the match. I'll gladly start you at Rookie-only since you've just become a member, and we wanna see you do a bunch of situations before we toss you higher.
Alright. That's that from me!
@DL
If the hailstorm got rid of all the clones...why did Kicker have the clones to begin with? I therefore concluded that the hail had no effect on the clones, yet the Sandstorm did.
So if anything is at fault for the clones, it is the creator of the Mock Reffing for allowing the clones to be there in the first place.
Rossy:
Clones were there to make you observant :O Despite the nuances of the stage-we should all be able to discern anomalies and remove them as we go along. Mock Reffings may defy logic at times, but they're good practice to point out these things, as you did just now... I'm not fully nuts yet 6_9
First of all, I'm sorry for delaying this. I totally forgot, then went on a camp or two for job/fun and now I have time to finally read all of your mockings. I'm gonna follow up through DL's previous remarks.
Rossy: Yer at Expert level right. Yet, you missed a key element in the reffing-which I knew was going to be overlooked cause I'm evil like that.
How're there clones there if there's a hailstorm? AAAAAKa. AAAAAKA. But you've been reffing consistently for over 6 months. I'm on the fence, so we'll let Muggles look it over as well. My answer is I'm not sure where you could improve-because it feels like something is off...just something small.
Yeah, you're a dependable ref, with an own style and I like it, but this mock-ref was not your 'best' work. I wouldn't be happy promoting you now, since I know you can do better. Next time, be sure to come back here and kick our ass.
Oslo: I'm not sure what level you are, but I'm pretty sure we can move you up once more. However, the one thing I want to point out for you as well was the weather aspect.
I know the instructions said Hail falls constantly, but that means when you change the weather, the hail will be replaced-until the other weather pattern changes, at which point it will return. That however was a subjective decision on your part that you included in your reffing. I made sure to not hold that against you (or anyone else..as that was not stated clearly). I say you can move up a stage, no problem. Intermediate easy. Hell you shoulda been moved up a while ago, now that I think about it... Yeah, no doubt about this. You got promoted on the spot.
Green Lanturn: The same goes for you. Your reffing style is solid enough. You intrepreted enough elements of the battle to be consistent, and wtf everyone is using these badass Kabutops sprites.. I say yes to you being a Rookie Ref. Mlg can come in and bump you higher via this reffing if he feels its ok. I was seriously considering putting you at intermediate first, but now I've decided that I wanna see you grow more first. I was very pleased with your reffing, so be sure to come back next time!
Spade: Here's the catch-Double Team. The Hail and the Sandstorm each would have dispelled of the clones, since the clones are not solid. I would have promoted you if you had just forgotten about the hail-but you also had the Sandstorm active, and yet the clones were still existing. So I'm gonna keep you at Rookie for now.
But don't think we haven't been seeing your reffing greatly improve over these last few months. The new Mock will be up soon, so please try. I'm definitely sure you will make it. Agreeing with Darkly here. You've reffed a good deal of matches already and your greatly improving, but the flaw displayed here was a bit too much for a promotion right now. Try again next time!
Zergling2005: Man I like your style, and yeah that formatting is not fun. That's all kids of crazyness. Your damage and your stats are great-and you got most every element of trickery I had in the match. I'll gladly start you at Rookie-only since you've just become a member, and we wanna see you do a bunch of situations before we toss you higher. A solid reffing and adjusted damage, nothing more to say, approved as a rookie ref.
DarkCookieMaster: You made a huge DoubleTeam/Weathercondition mistake, that severly altered the battle which they were in, so I'm gonna have to ask you to try again for rookie ref next time. It's not that your damage calculations were wrong, it's just that that one flaw kinda ruined the round.
Gotcha MLG. To be promoted to Expert, I need to be damn near flawless. Maybe I wasn't paying too much attention when I was doing the mock, but whatever the case, next time, I'll give ma full attention.
Now off I go to ref and shiz...
Alright. May I ask where my mistakes were, and how I should do them differently?
MeLoVeGhOsTs
18th July 2010, 09:06 AM
Well, the major one was the clones. Hail was up and after a while both Hail and Sandstorm meaning there was no way the clones should've survived (not even from the first move). Meaning that the first two moves that missed through 'clones', would've hit, making the it a totally different round.
Furthermore, "Kick charges straight at the fossil and unleashes very powerful, and very critical blows stright onto Six Leg. Ouch." Dunno if that was a Critical Hit or not, but I interpretated that scentence as a CH. Which cannot happen aswell, seeing that Six Legged Death has Battle Armor as an ability, which stops critical hits.
I'm not sure to tell you where to improve, seeing that I didn't see that many flaws, it's just more that you need to pay attention to the mock-battle, and see those little crappy difficulties that we put in there.
As I told you, you wouldn't make a bad ref, on the contrary; but I cannot approve you based on this reffing. So come back next time and show us how you do it.
as are battle continues between ninja Charles six-legged death and kung fu Katy kicker it seams both Pokemon have taken there toll of damage, upon this mountain.
kicker, and his clones, open up this round by winding up there left foot then releasing there rolling kick at six-legged death. six-legged death stunned by the ambush moved no were, fortunately for six-legged death that the two clones scraped his hip sides, the other clone missing completely, and kicker only kicking its claw.as a quick defense six-legged death uses its brine on kicker before it could use its clones to hide and protect it. the hail seams to keep falling from the havens.
after six-legged death dealt its damage it went into stealth mode with it sandstorm, which happened to be summoned out of no were. the hail continued to fall, however most off it seams to be blown away from the Pokemon. kicker now felling the pressure of loosing started to move toward the faint figure of six-legged death, as kicker got within range it turned on its blaze and made a sharp dash toward six-legged death, it swung its leg wide but missed the Pokemon completely.
Mock Battle!
Welcome one and all to the top of Mount Kazahana, where a fierce battle is still underway amidst this freezing hail!
Currently in battle are Kung Fu Katy and her Hitmonlee, Kicker (M):
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dptr/dptr020.png http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/106.png
vs. Ninja Charles and his Kabutops, Six-legged Death (F):
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dptr/dptr056.png http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/141.png
So far, it looks like Kicker has taken somewhat of a beating from Six-Legged Death,
after having boosted up her attack quite a bit.
But, there's a possibility Kicker can still come back with those 3 clones he created still standing strong by his side.
Oh! It looks like the pokemon and their trainers are ready for the next round, folks!
Focusing his sights on Six-legged, Kicker races foward with his clones. Oh! What's this? The hail has destroyed two of Kicker's clones!
Six-legged uses her energy to begin a buildup of an especially salty Brine, ready to fire it at Kicker...But no! Kicker's amazing speed allowed him to roll along the ground, jumping out of it quick enough in order to smash into Six-Legged with a strong Rolling Kick. Surprised by the blow just delivered to her, Six-Legged is too stunned to move...
Hauling herself up from that last attack, Six-Legged Death raises her scythes into the air,
causing an extremely strong Sandstorm to brew and mix into the falling Hail.
Wanting to keep up the offense while still close, Kicker focuses the heat of his body into his foot, crashing a beautiful Blaze Kick into Kabutops side, which (unfortunately for Kicker) was able to withstand most of the blow. As Kicker retreats back to his side for safety, the Hail/Sandstorm mixture annhilates the last of his clones
No shot of slicing air, just a Kabutops doing a crazy little dance.
‡ Round ??? ‡
Ugh… deserts. Sun. Sand. Skin cancer. Today, this barren wasteland will serve as the backdrop for a battle in progress between Kung Fu Katy’s mighty Toxicroak and Ninja Charles’s spirited Porygon-Z. The blaring sun is beating the melanoma into us as we speak, so let’s get this match going!
E.V.O. gets things off to a bright and brilliant start as it release a triple beam of ice, lightning and fire. The Tri Attack collides with Ribbit, causing him slightly boosted damage, but the Toxicroak won’t be bested that easily. Even though he's practically drying up like a raisin beneath the sweltering sun, he closes his eyes and concentrates so that he can form a mental link with the unwilling E.V.O. Give it a moment aaaand… done! It’s Roleplaying time! (I put on my robe and wizard hat…)
Ribbit: <-12 HP; -8 EP; Ability: Adaptability>
E.V.O.: <-8 EP>
Glowing red, E.V.O. commands some pretty serious Psychic waves that buffet and beat away at Ribbit, taking a sizeable chunk out of the blue froggy’s health. Seriously injured, Ribbit goes in for a poisonous strike, but finds the move ineffective. He then hangs his head in shame. I think someone forgot to consult their type chart before going into battle, buster.
Ribbit: <-21 HP; -4 EP>
E.V.O.: <-9 EP>
Looks like some Pokes just never learn. Ribbit spews out a glob of Toxic goo at his foe, but the gunk just smacks uselessly into the Porygon-Z and slides down its digital body. Tough luck. Gleeful at its foe’s misfortune, E.V.O. tries to erect a Barrier to filter out damage and… nothing. E.V.O.'s attack fails due to some mysterious reason, but thanks for playing anyway!
Mock Battle:
*insert Old Western music*
Welcome back, one and all, to another fiery hot battle, here at the Gobi Desert Stadium at high noon!
Is that a Tangela rolling by?
Anyways, this battle has literally only just begun between Kung Fu Katy and her Toxicroak, Ribbit, versus Ninja Charles and his Porygon-Z, E.V.O. …:
E.V.O. begins the round by calculating the distance between itself and Ribbit, and subsequently firing a tri-colored beam with fire, ice, and electric attributes directly into Ribbit's shoulder, causing excellent damage! Ribbit winces a little from the simultaneous blow, but is too worried about his current skin condition to stall any longer. That noon-sun will burn his Dry Skin if he doesn't do something soon! He focuses on E.V.O. and tries to Role Play, mocking his Adaptability to the situation.
E.V.O. Once again prepares to attack, firing a mental barrage of Psychic power at Ribbit. Almost crippled by the super-effective blow, Ribbit pusles a particularly potent poison (more alliteration!) to his claws, and rushes as E.V.O. *clink* Hm? It seems the attack just bounced of E.V.O.'s newly hardened steel skin, thanks to an earlier Conversion2. Too bad for Ribbit, that would have been twice as powerful as before because of that recently learned Adaptability...It looks like E.V.O took the lead this turn.
Ribbit, too angered by the fact that his last attack didn't work to see why it didn't work, spews out a nasty Toxic sludge at E.V.O. Once again, the poison move simply slides off. Hoping to avoid other physical damage in the future, E.V.O. tries to set up a barrier around himself. Unfortunately his little digital brain couldn't process the request and terminated the action.
And that looks like the end of the round, folks! Unfortunately for Katy and Ribbit, E.V.O. Is still winning at this moment in time. Will Ribbit be able to remember his opponents weaknesses/resistances next round? Stay tuned to find out...
With the battle already heated enough, these pokemon just are not giving up. Ribbit, even in the intensity of the battle, admires E.V.O for its power. So, he decides to be just like it. Ribbit really likes the fact that he now has Adaptability. E.V.O gives a digital smirk, as he generates an energy that is red, blue, and yellow. A red beam fires off, and it feels hot onribbits skin. Then a blue beam fires off, chilling Ribbit. Then the yellow beam fires, and he feels like his muscles are weak.
Well, ya he admires the thing, but it doesnt mean he is going easy on it. He starts running towards the digital/duck thing with his arms crossed in front of him, his Venom Claws leaking a sickly poison, and slashes E.V.O in an X. All EVO does is tilt its head and look down at its body. No scratch, and the Posion is running off of EVO like rain on an umbrella. The Conversion Saved Him!
We begin this slightly fertile battle with Ribbit preparing himself mentally and chuckles to himself in that slightly weird way. E.V.O beeps twice and constructs a triangle containing three orbs: fire, ice and lightning. If only Lawrence III could see this now. E.V.O calculates the trajectory, the wind factor, even the effect the sun might have on the ice orb, and fires the three orbs. The orbs continue to spin in a triangular motion and all make contact with Ribbit at the same time. He cries out and falls to the floor. He gets up and, gaining enough energy, glows bright white. E.V.O also glows white and a single white thread connects them. There's a bright flash and both Pokemon step back. Ribbit felt slightly stronger, whilst E.V.O could have sworn it just got hotter.
E.V.O feels the heat, but calculates that nothing bad will come to it if it continues at optimum efficiency. E.V.O glows light blue and the same happens for Ribbit, who groans in annoyance. He's thrown around slightly and then stops in mid-air. He lands with a crunch and screeches in pain. He gets up clutching one shoulder and extends his poison spikes on the end of each arm. The spikes then turn a nasty dark purple colour and Ribbit marvels at the power behind the attack. Whatever he took from E.V.O sure was powerful. He threw himself at E.V.O and jabbed forwards. Buuuuut, just before the attack hit, E.V.O turned silver. The spike hit E.V.O...but nothing happened. Ribbit couldn't believe it and kept smashing, but with no result. Annoyed and frustrated, he returned to his side.
E.V.O frowns and checks its memory banks. What is a Barrier? E.V.O does not know and therefore curses the limited intelligence of its trainer. Ribbit finishes his coughing and fires a small purple glob of...we'll say stuff...at E.V.O, but it splats on the ground next to E.V.O. It turns to him in puzzlement and when Ribbit rubs his eyes (yikes!), he had aimed the glob a little bit far to the left. Well that was a pointless action.
The Gobi Desert sun shines down on the battlers, and my god it is HOT! EVO is looking weakened after converting it's digital matrix over to a hardened steel, but is still full of health. Ribbit on the other hand is looking distinctly uncomfortable, with his dry skin burning beneath the heat. Scratching at his raw skin, Ribbit eyes his opponent's smooth and unblemished skin. Every part of EVO's body is the same, smooth, cool and resisting the heat. EVO hovers just above the sand, and starts to generate three sparks of energy from his three appendages. A shot of red energy, combines with a yellow and a blue one, as they twist together and slam into Ribbit's chest, knocking the pokemon down. The beams fade, but the blue ones stays longer than the others. A layer of frost forms itself over Ribbit's skin briefly, but starts melting straight away due to the sun. With his skin continuing to hurt he rolls over and stares intently at his foe. For a second, his skin glistens, then smoothes over. Suddenly the sun isn't so hot, and nothing else hurts.
EVO looks at it's foe's sudden enjoyment of the weather. Well that has to change. It's eyes glow white, and the next thing Ribbit knows, he's in the air being tossed around like a rag doll. He focuses his mind, but it's hard due to his massive weaknesses to psychic intrusion. With a little bit of effort, he breaks the grip, but he feels physically weakened. Dropping to the ground, he runs forward, his hands moistening with his own secreted poison. With a kick up, he lands over the PorygonZ, but at the peak of his jump, forgets what he was meant to be doing! Some kind of poison attack? He lands and pathetically slaps EVO, but the Steel affected pokemon just looks at him with disdain.
Left a little confused by what just happened, Ribbit swallows hard. He adjusts his glands, and starts to produce a highly toxic poison within them. Eyeing EVO with a malicious glare he is ready to pounce, and this time he wont fail. EVO panics and pictures a barrier in front, to protect from any incoming damage. It begins to digitally map the screen, but is unable to find the correct command to initialise the barrier. Why can it not find this data file? It's too late, as Ribbit spits a highly infectious poison over EVO, missing slightly due to the bright sun reflecting off EVO's shiny surface, but enough lands on the pokemon. EVO shudders, but remains calm, as the poison slides off and sinks into the sand. Ribbit makes a low, disgruntled croak as he watches the sand beneath EVO turns a miserable purple. A wind blows across the desert, and Ribbit's skin feels just that little bit warmer.
Welcome back to round "?" of our battle between Kung Fu Katy and Ninja Charles; within, the Gobi Desert, were the sun seams to be taking its toll on the trainers Pokemon.
Ribbit's skin seams to be bothering it however it seams to be mocking the other Pokemon's ability with Role Play! outstanding now Ribbit is now using its opponents Adaptibility and is no longer taking damage from the sun's rays. even though Ribbit is now safe from the sun its still not safe from E.V.O. E.V.O sends him flying into the air causing him crash land into a mound of sand. ribbit ready to turn the tide, in this case heat tide, of battle around! ribbits claws start to drip with toxins as he scrambles for his opponent, once found he slices his foe with a false cross poison; however, it seams ribbit is just wasting energy as it could not pull of an attack it could not learn allowing E.V.O escapes unharmed!
the suns rays still beat on the Pokemon. even after the failed attack ribbit it did as commanded ,with full spirit, and used toxic sending out a glob of pure poisonous death toward its opponent E.V.O unfortunately it only fell right in front of E.V.O. the toxic fumes danced in the air and all around E.V.O, but failed to do anything to him! as future protection E.V.O try's to set up a barrier, but fails. it seam E.V.O is confused about the mater and just waits for a new command.
Role Play ~ Cross Poison ~ Toxic ||| Tri - Attack ~ Psychic ~ Barrier
AND THE BATTLE BEGINS!
Since the current ref had to post a sick leave note, we return to this program with me commentating. HEY! Don't you go changing chanell to Britains Best Dish. Even if you are some derranged cooking maniac, that is just downgrading, since this battle looks to be getting really heated.
E.V.O launches off a Tri-Attack. It moves toward Ribbit, and paralyses him. Although hampered, Ribbit simply puts on a blue and red coat which not only covers up his dry skin, but suddenly makes him all the more eager to use his stab attacks. Poor E.V.O might want to install RunAway.exe, whilst I need 2d12 to deal with that role player.
Ribbit -9 HP / -9 EN Paralysed ; Adaptability ||| E.V.O -0 HP / -10 EN
E.V.O keeps up the offense, launching off a psychic barrage, severaly damaging Ribbit. Ribbit writhes, but is able to lunge at E.V.O with poison tipped fingers.
The poison does no damage, but at least there was a tiny amount of impact force, boosted in power due to the attack boost.
Ribbit -24 HP / -5 EN ||| E.V.O -3 HP / -11 EN
Ribbit tries to cough up some toxic goop, but luckily paralysis comes along and stops him from wasting the energy. Yay! In response, E.V.O looks up his database for the move barrier. And finally locates it under:
C:\Users\E.V.O\Documents\Moves\Porygon\GS\NYPC\Bar rier
Wooop, E.V.O now has something to hide behind. Yay!
Ribbit -0 HP / -0 EN Fully Paralysed ||| E.V.O -0 HP / -4 EN +2 Defense
-3 for the toxic poisoning (Second infliction of damage)
Ribbit - Toxic Level 2 next round (How was he poisoned again? I didn't think poison types could be poisoned)
Ribbit - Paralyses (20% chance move fails)
Ribbit - +2 Attack, -1 Accuracy
Ribbit - Role playing Adaptability
E.V.O - Conversion Steel typing
E.V.O - +2 Def, barrier for 5 more actions
-This is just for me to laugh at how everyone ignored the fact that Porygon-Z legally can use barrier, through a combo of Pokémon G/S, NYPC events, and the ABS rules on new gen evolutions. :P
-E.V.O took damage to cross poison due to this being ANIME Style Battling. If i hit you, regardless of how I power the move, it will hurt. Moreso simply when the element will do more damage.
-Damage Cap = 40
-On 0 EN, you are forced to idle for 2 turns, then regain 20 EN. If you reach 0 EN again, the energy regain goes to 10. On the third time, you are KO'ed.
-Should Toxic be used damage starts on 2 HP then increases by 50% (Rounded up) each round. (2,3,5,8,12,18,27,41)
-Sprites come later.
-Don't quote this, it's messy as anything...
Funny, cause I've seen them used before after some debate (Speaking of, why are they banned?)
Because they're only available to people who can (or could) casually go to the New York Pokemon Centre to get them. Unlike all the others moves which are easily obtained wherever you are in the world via the games, NYPC moves weren't exactly widespread, hence them being banned.
Razor: If you want to continue the battle between me an Ayeun, that would be cool. I'm putting it up here cause its been over two weeks since last reffing and I fig you might have lost interest in it.
Sub Ref plz Ayeuns stomping mez! (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20988) :o.
Edit: Oslo: Depends on your rank. If yer Intermediate-when you reach a certain number of refs, you can get rewards in that category. As for your promotion, Toxi can't learn Cross Poison., I'd say its well over due. We can afford to put you up to Experienced, you've been sticking to your reffing ideology pretty well and haven't been afraid to ask questions either. Be careful though, from here on out, it gets hella tougher.
FE: Mlg's post was in reference to your first reffing attempt on the 27th of July. Therefore, while I still looked over your reffing, its a bit too soon for me to say you can be Intermediate. I'm gonna go over your active ref matches and see how they are faring before I put a final opinion up for you.
However, I will still lay out constructive criticism. The main thing I noticed was Toxicroak's poisoning should have been nullified, since you can't poison Poison types. In that instance, I was mimicking a mistake all refs do at times, and that's when they might carry a typo over from an older round-or they may forget a certain attribute about a Pokemon. Also, Toxi can't learn Cross Poison.
DCM: I had to remember that you wanted to be an approved ref! Remember folks, Unapproved refs can exist, they just don't get rewards. If their reffing quality is really shoddy, then they can be barred from reffing.
But that's not the case for you man. Good damage all around, glad to see people are working around the 4x weakness and not being too super heavy (like me -.-...) Toxic though man. Toxic getting EVERYONE. As well as the Cross Poison. It just Seems natural right? XD Rookie for you DCM, you good.
Rossy: Man, you've been working hard at this. You still doing that 12 vs 12? XD. Wait, I can't laugh; I'm in a damn 25 vs 25 with the same glory hog :O. AAAAnyway. You got bagged by the Toxic as well. Damnit Ros! I was rooting for you too. And then the Cross poison got you as well! Noooooooooooooooooooo! I'm sorry man. Yer staying put. Don't hate me too much. 5thh time. I belive in you. 5th time. DO not give up :O.
Razor: Alrighty here. You saw through every trick, and your reffing was spot on. Damage was well and good-You don't do 4x weaknesses like some people, and that's cool (do you do base damage and add 4 or sumthin? You can PM me if iz a secwet!). Your reffing has been consistent...I feel Experienced would be best for you.
Neo: I'm going to critique your work, but as with Falcon's Eye, I want you to space out your attempts at shooting up the ladder. While I'm not saying you can't improve in a short period of time -I want you to space them out so we can actually see a change in your reffing.
You did pretty well in this reffing. The Toxic thing still got you. You noted the inability of using Cross Poison. Your reffing as a whole was solid, good descriptions and all. Damage seemed pretty spot on. But again, its so early to tell, its only been 5 days in between your first and second mock. Give it a few more weeks, and then try again. We will remember this as good initiative for improvement for you, Falcon and Dogfish as well.
DF: Ribbit can't learn Cross Poison. But I do not mind the force ideology (ie: all attacks generate force, therefore all attacks must deal damage.) Just remember that impact damage should be very low in the case of nullification-boosted or not. I say this cause a boosted Tri-attack isn't hitting Gengar at all, force/element ideology or not.
Secondly, yes, good for you to ask this question about Toxic. Poison types can't be poisoned. So it should have been wiped off the reffing scoreboard.
Third: Yes, NYPC moves are banned due to what Razor said. With that considered, it was a solid reffing from you. Though I do see room for improvement, as well as for noting that its not always good to gloat about some other people's mistakes when you may make the same.
Ok Done and done. Oh and this mock Reffing is being taken down--there will be a new Mock up on 9.1. Gives you all some time to work on real reffings. Deuces!
I would like to continue reffing it, I'm just a little of my game at the moment, don't know why. Should be getting back to normal soon though I hope. I will write up a reffing for you tomorrow.
Razor: Alrighty here. You saw through every trick, and your reffing was spot on. Many thanks. I have a base damage depending on how much base power an attack has in the game (for instance 10-40, 41-60, etc), and similar for energy. Then I add +1 for STAB and a +1 or -1 for Super/Not Very Effective. If it's a double typing then it would be +2. So for Ribbit, it was 10 base damage, then +2 for being doubly effective.
Alrighty now, whatt the frickle frackle is the deal with the reffing histroy/sheet things. Is it for people to keep track of their reffings? Im confused cuz i see like free evolutions and stuff... gah!
Mew Master
14th August 2010, 04:03 PM
The reffing sheet has two purposes:
1. its for the refs to keep track of what they've done for their rewards.
2. For the ref to keep track of what awards they've earned through their ranks, since at certian match completions you get rewards.
It's a six on six, all out at a time without status moves. It's pretty straightforward with loads of damage (DC at 50), so it should be over relatively soon.
