You give Chinchou a little time to heal before sending him into battle. The remaining members of the Ivy Council watch with interest as the fisticuffs commerce. Right off the bat, both Dragonair and Chinchou begin to utilize defensive measures. Dragonair conceals himself behind a ghostly Safeguard while Chinchou conjures another shimmering disk of water.

Suddenly, Dragonair slithers in close to land a strike. He wraps his tail around Chinchou and makes the mistake of trying to Thunderbolt the little squirt, which has no effect thanks to Volt Absorb. Dragonair curses himself for making such a foolish move. Winking, Chinchou takes the opportunity to land a Confuse Ray... but the Safeguard repels the attack! Drat!

Shifting his approach, Dragonair releases Chinchou and then blasts him with a humming Dragon Pulse. Chinchou is sent spiralling backwards through the water but recovers swiftly. With a wave of his antennae, he sends a frigid swell of water rolling toward Dragonair. The attack connects, shooting a chill through the serpentine Pokemon's body. Ice ain't nice.

The Aqua Ring then restores a bit of health for Chinchou.

As the battle continues, Chinchou obfuscates himself in a dense Mist. The cloudy water is visually impenetrable, resulting in Dragonair's next attack—another Dragon Pulse—missing Chinchou by a good deal. Phew. However, the Mist seems to dissipate rapidly, blowing Chinchou's cover. Chinchou attacks Dragonair with a frigid Ice Beam, while Dragonair responds with the most powerful Dragon-type move in his arsenal: Draco Meteor. A shimmering purple rock whizzes through the water and clobbers Chinchou for excellent damage, leaving him feeling quite disoriented. Eep.

He gives his head a shake and gathers his center. Must... push... on! He whips up a raging Blizzard that spirals through the water, but Dragonair blocks the attack with a Protect. The Blizzard rages against the energy barrier and then falls silent. Hrm. Tough break.

The Aqua Ring activates again and heals Chinchou a little.

Wondering how a forest could possibly grow in the middle of a tundra, you nonetheless continue plodding onward with Prospero providing illumination. Eventually, you reach a point where the trees taper away and a thin, frigid mist hangs in the air instead. Not far ahead, you see a tall wrought iron fence comprising the perimeter of something. It's hard to tell exactly what that something might be; a much denser mist lingers on the opposite side of the black bars, obscuring your vision. You follow the fence until you reach a gate. A rather dignified-looking Beartic appears to be the attendant.

    Goodie. Another bear.

Glancing upward, you see a sign displaying the words Frozen Graveyard. So. This is it.

Winning by a narrow but sufficient margin, you issue more commands. Chinchou blasts Dragonair with a crippling Ice Beam, inciting the sea serpent's ire. Purple light envelops your surroundings as Dragonair whips toward Chinchou with alarming speed. Using a series of melee attacks, Dragonair vents his Outrage. Chinchou responds with a pair of Charge Beams which do meagre damage giving the typing, but at least they provide stat boosts. With two more Outrages, Dragonair all but decimates Chinchou, leaving your little anglerfish weak and weary.

The Aqua Ring gives Chinchou one final health blessing before dissolving. Dragonair's Safeguard fades as well, leaving him vulnerable to a fit of Outrage-induced Confusion.

Bellowing, Dragonair snakes about the water, not entirely in control of his own faculties. Nonetheless, he temporarily works through his Confusion and comes in close for another Outrage. He smashes his tail against Chinchou, who lets out a weary cry and creates another band of life-restoring energy. Dragonair then continues his erratic movements, coiling around himself to land a bite on his tail. Chinchou attempts to land another Ice Beam but ends up missing instead. Drat.

The two Pokemon then trade off another Outrage for another Ice Beam, and both attacks score hits this time. The Aqua Ring restores a little health to Chinchou, but he's ailing nonetheless.

Dragonair's erratic, tangled movements slow to a halt as his Confusion abates. The Dragon-type then throws caution to the wind and continues his Outrageous strategy. Prepared, Chinchou does a spin and conjures four clones... that immediately vanish. Since clones can't endure contact with anything but air, the water destroys them. Chinchou is therefore struck by Dragonair's attack and comes within an inch of defeat.

When Dragonair uses another Outrage, Chinchou once again tries avoiding the attack, this time with greater success. With terrific speed, he scoots out of the way, causing Dragonair to miss. Confusion sets in for the sea serpent once again. Roaring, Dragonair slams his head against the lakebed over and over. Taking careful aim, Chinchou fires an Ice Beam. It's a hit! Ice crystals form around Dragonair, Freezing him solid.

The Aqua Ring restores more health.

The deal was to make it faint so I could catch it, right? Or was I supposed to catch it anytime? If I'm supposed to make it faint first then spam Blizzard. If not, go Ultra Ball.

Since you have Dragonair against the ropes, you decide to be merciful and attack him no further. Instead, you pluck your Ultra Ball and throw it... except you're underwater, so your attempt to throw the Ultra Ball causes it to drift half a foot in front of you, lose momentum and sink to the bottom. Derp. Instead, you pick up the Ultra Ball and swim toward Dragonair. You press the button against Dragonair's frigid body and watch as he's sucked inside. The ball begins rocking in your hand.

You ask for access to the Frozen Graveyard.

The Beartic pierces you with an intimidating stare, making you quite nervous. Who knows what this guy's gonna do? Suddenly, the tension is punctured as his face breaks into a wide grin.

"Golly, sure!" he exclaims. "Can't remember the last time we had somebody venture to these parts. By all means, go for it. Jeepers, Mr. Effrey is gonna be so surprised. He's the Sneasel who usually mans the gate, but he managed to perforate his ear drum and the drowsiness caused by the pain meds prevented him from coming into work today. He usually hides the graveyard from plain sight and requires folks to perform some kind of display to gain entrance... but I don't really care about all that, so I guess it's your lucky day! Go right in!"

The iron gate creaks open, allowing you to enter.

"Uhm. Ok, I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction. So.. thanks I guess. Prospero, lets go."

Psst.. Prospero, stay alert incase the Beartic tries anything. If he pulls any tricks, then be ready to throw up a Reflect or Light Screen to slow any kind of attack that appears. We've been fooled enough on this trip to be taken in by false sincerity.

Nah, contriving needless obstacles for a one Pokeball quest that's already lasted eight months is no fun. Accessing a Pasture shouldn't take the same amount of time/effort as finding a Legendary, so I'm cutting you a break.

You pass through the gate and step into the dense fog of the Frozen Graveyard. You take a few more steps forward and the fog disperses, giving you a clear view of your surroundings. You find yourself immersed in a sea of icicle-laden tombstones and errant drifts of snow. Winding paths zigzag up and down the rolling landscape as a glacial wind gusts about.

You see a few Pokemon nearby. A Glalie, Azumarill and Garbodor are playing Yahtzee on an upturned tombstone not far ahead. Nearby, a Muk appears to be dozing beneath a cross-shaped headstone.

A nearby path heads in the direction of a mausoleum in the distance while another path winds off toward a snowy, dilapidated pavilion.

You follow the path to the pavilion, which takes you up a steep, slippery slope. You eventually reach the pavilion, the roof of which lies in rubble beneath a heavy accumulation of snow. From up here, you get a decent overview of the Frozen Graveyard. You see the entrance to the west, a mausoleum to the north, a plinth supporting a large, iron bell to the east and a frozen lake in the very middle. You see various dark shapes moving between the tombstones, but it's hard to tell what most of them are.

You're pretty sure you see a Gyarados near the lake and that looks to be a Mamoswine not far from the mausoleum, but you can't be sure.

Suddenly, you hear movement behind you. You think something might be tunnelling in the big heap of snow.

You head toward the frozen lake in the very middle of the graveyard. Drawing near, you watch as a Walrein entertains itself by sliding back and forth across the slippery surface. A large, black Gyarados observes this game lazily.

Gyarados seems to lose interest in Walrein's antics just as you approach. It slithers toward a gaping hole in the ice and disappears into the lake. As you peer through the ice, you see a second dark shape beneath the surface, indicating that at least one other aquatic Pokemon resides down there.

Since underwater battles are 76% more awesome than non-underwater battles, you get Prospero to use Dive and take you into the lake. A magical oxygen bubble materializes around your head and the water repels away from your body, keeping you safe from what would otherwise be certain hypothermia. The water down here is fairly clear. Not far off, you see Gyarados chatting idly with an Empoleon and a Cloyster.

    • ROUND FORTY-NINE •

You recall Chinchou and swim after the Red-Striped Basculin.

As it turns out, following a school of aquatic Pokemon makes for a particularly uneventful time... at first, anyway. They idly swim around the lake for several minutes and, just as you begin to contemplate finding something else to do, a puffy blur breaches the surface of the lake.

Quick as can be, Rufflet grabs one of the Basculin in its talons and shoots back upwards with its prize. The other Basculin peer around in surprise. Before they can react, more Rufflet dive into the water.

You watch as each and every one of the Basculin is snatched up by the winged horde. The birds immediately dart back out of the lake and take flight. You feel like you're watching the Discovery Channel. I believe they call that a feeding frenzy?

I'll think gonna catch a Rufflet. Poliwag, get their attention with Icy Wind and drag one of them downwards with Psychic. If they all attack at once, then use Protect to shield us both.

Poliwag swims to the surface and casts an Icy Wind into the sky. Having gotten the flock's attention, she then glows red and taps into her Psychic powers. With waves of invisible energy, Poliwag grabs one of the airborne Rufflet and tugs him down into the water where he collides with a nearby rock on the lakebed. The Basculin he was carrying drops into the water, too. The fish looks relieved to be spared.

(Actually, it just looks sort of grumpy, but I guess that's the only face it can make.)

Poliwag continues to use Psychic to press Rufflet hard against the rock. The bird flails around and tries to squawk, but it releases nothing more than bubbles. Meanwhile, up above, you can just barely see the flock circling the lake overhead.

Before Rufflet can do anything to protect himself, Poliwag Freezes him to the large rock with a barrage of Ice Beams. Bwahaha! In addition to all that damage, Rufflet starts losing health from his slow suffocation, making this quite an easy battle. However, as Poliwag takes a quick breather from all this attacking, the remaining members of the flock get revenge. From up in the sky, they fire Air Slashes through the water. Poliwag is struck again and again and again and again.

I'll toss my last Pokeball at the frozen Rufflet and wave goodbye at the angry flock to piss them off.

    PACK:• pokeball x1
    CATCHES:

    skorupi

    • ROUND FIFTY-TWO •

The volley of Air Slashes continues to rain down upon Rufflet. Knowing you need to act fast, you throw the Pokeball... except you're still underwater, so it drifts half a foot in front of you before settling on the lakebed. As Poliwag squeals with pain, you pick up the Pokeball and frog-kick toward Rufflet. You press the button against the Frozen Pokemon and watch as he's drawn inside. The ball begins to rock about in your hand.

    Wiggle.

    Wiggle.

    Wiggle.

    Click!

With a final wave to the birds, you're teleported back to the Safari Zone front desk. Poliwag chirps with relief. The Abra attendant hands you the balls containing Skorupi, Dragonair and Rufflet. She then wishes you a good day, but not before pleasantly reminding you not to steal anymore boats on future Safari Zone visits. With that, your quest comes to an end.

    ADVENTCHA COMPLETE!

I'll approach slowly, address Gyarados by his given name, Zaraki Kenpachi, and respectfully ask if he wants a battle and a break from the Frozen Graveyard.

You approach the horde of Water-types and offer the black Gyarados your request.

"An interesting proposition," Zaraki says in a pensive baritone. "I did so enjoy my exploits with MLG, though he was an exceedingly competent trainer. I have not yet witnessed your capabilities. We Pasture Pokemon are passive creatures, but I would nonetheless relish the opportunity to battle with you and your Slowking. If you can prove your mettle by weakening me sufficiently, I will allow myself to be captured. Agreed?"

I agree. I only ask that we conduct this battle on the surface. As Prospero is my only companion here, he is providing me the means to be underwater. If he is battling, then he can't guarantee my safety beneath the water. Unless one of your companions is able to help?
