Ok... So the gym has never reached this level before, so I guess I had better explain them all...

Mist - Mist was designed here to work as the games

Haze - Haze was designed to function as it does in the games, but happen every action after it is activated (so status changes only last one action)

Super heavy rain - As mentioned in the description, Super Heavy rain doubles the power of normal rain, and causes damage over time to Rock, Fire, and Ground types, as if under the power level of Sand Storm / Hail

Playing a strategic game, Goku throws up a protective barrier without caring whether his opponent is even launching an attack. The Ambipom chuckles; he knows he’s bettering his odds. Lily tries to soak in a little sunlight, but her body goes rigid yet again.

Lily: <Can’t move!>

Lily gazes upon Goku and finds herself enamoured by the Ambipom’s rugged physique. She decides to write a poem about her beloved, but struggles to find a word that comes close to rhyming with Goku. Tofu? Snowshoe? Suddenly, her burst of creative thought comes to an end as Goku hurls another steaming blob of goo at Lily’s face. Ahh! It burns, it burns!

Goku: <-10 EP>
Lily: <-18 HP; Can’t move!>

Once again, Goku erects another shield and stands confidently behind it. Lily finds her center and begins deriving health from sunlight. However, since it’s raining, there’s not nearly as much available solar energy Synthesize. Looks like someone should have checked the weather report first.

Lily: <+10 HP; -13 EP>

Lily’s strength is eaten away by poison <-9 HP> but restored in part by the rain <+3 HP>. How much more can she endure?

Unfortunately for this particular OVERSIZEDPINEAPPLEDUCK, speed just doesn’t seem to be on Lily’s side. Before she can even contemplate her next course of action, Goku ends things with one final Gunk Shot. The poison settles into Lily’s skin and sends the Ludicolo crashing down to the ground. Goku does a celebratory jig.

Goku and Lily are promptly returned to their Pokeballs as the challenger and Gym Leader contemplate their choices for the next phase of the battle. Chaos ultimately sends a stinking, bubbling booger into play while Ayeun summons a barbed Frisbee to do her bidding. Let’s begin!

Surrounded by rain and mist, Slimepot nonetheless decides to heat things up with a Flamethrower. What with the typing at play here, the blazing attack does a hefty bit of damage to Spike even with the weather conditions. Suddenly, the mist begins to darken and thicken into a heavy haze. Rotating rapidly, Spike launches herself at Slimepot. Those Iron Barbs manage to pierce Slimepot’s resilient gooey body. Ouchies.

Slimepot: <-8 HP; -2 HP from Iron Barbs; -8 EP>
Spike: <-16 HP; -4 EP>

A glowing ball of chi energy materializes before Slimepot and whips across the field. Ooh, sparkly! Snazzy trick! It catches one of Spike’s exterior bulbs and violently sends the Ferrothorn spinning in the opposite direction, jolting her unpleasantly. Once she corrects herself, she again tackles Slimepot with those lovely barbs of hers.

Slimepot: <-10 HP; -2 HP from Iron Barbs; -10 EP>
Spike: <-18 HP; -6 EP

A second ball of chi energy throws Spike toward the pond, but the Ferrthorn manages to drive one of her bulbs into mud just on the water’s edge, preventing herself from being submerged. Breathing a sigh of relief, she fires off a dazzling burst of silvery light. Slimepot is hit by the attack and feels his defences take a dip. After a moment, however, they’re restored by the Haze.

Rocking a significant lead in terms of health, Slimepot confidently assaults his foe with a third Focus Blast. Cracks begin to show in Spike’s armour but the beast nonetheless summons an earthquake to shake things up. It does reasonably potent damage, but is it too little too late? Slimepot’s Speed begins to yo-yo.

Once again, the two combatants exchange super effective attacks. Slimepot’s Speed stat continues to go up and down. After that Focus Blast, Spike’s Special Defence does the same thing.

Well, that didn’t take long. With a final Focus Blast, Slimepot brings Spike down. The Muk seems particularly amused by how easy that was.

Two new combatants take to the field. Chaos’s Togekiss takes flight in circles above the garden while Ayeun, on the other hand, calls upon a beastly evergreen. The two Pokemon peer around the muddy, rainy, misty, hazy garden. What a chipper place.

Tokuchi goes into a sharp descent, throwing himself at Abama like some kind of cherubic bullet. The Body Slam catches Abama off-guard and the Abomasnow nearly loses his balance, but he remains grounded and summons a storm of ice and snow to enter the garden. A STAB-boosted chill rushes through Tokuchi’s body. A-brr.

Tokuchi: <-20 HP; -7 EP>
Abama: <-11 HP; -10 EP>

Tokuchi deals a ranged hit this time, flapping her wings sharpy so as to create a volatile razor of air. Abama braces himself the strike, losing a few needles in the process, but still manages to get knocked over nonetheless. He appears momentarily dazed.

Tokuchi sparkles and beams in a supreme display of Serene Grace.

A second Air Slash and a second Blizzard are dealt. Tokuchi perches upon the pagoda, hugging herself against the cold snap, while Abama loses another few needles. Hey! Easy with the pruning!

Things are even-steven as Tokuchi takes flight once more and launches his body into Abama. The sheer strength of that attack leaves his muscles pained and rigid as Paralysis begins to set in. Nonetheless, he manages to drum up another Blizzard right in the middle of the garden. From up above, Tokuchi beats his wings to ward off the oncoming storm, but it has no effect. Snow and ice pile atop him until—

Splat. Caged in ice, Tokuchi plummets into a mud puddle. Frozen solid.

With his foe incapacitated, Abama tries to exact a little revenge—but goes stiff and still.

The next round commences with a bit of good luck for one Pogey and a bit of bad luck for the other. The ice surrounding Tokuchi magically melts away, leaving the Togekiss free once again. Hells yes! With no ice to incarcerate him, Tokuchi flaps off a powerful airborne razor at Abama, who’s as stiff as a, well, a tree. Paralysis. Annoying.

Abama: <-14 HP; Can’t move!>

Beating those mighty wings once more, Tokuchi fires off a second Air Slash. Abama loses even more precious needles, the shock of which leaves him entirely motionless.

One final Air Slash leaves Abama more than a little irritated. Finally able to attack, the Abomasnow lets out an enraged bellow. Winter returns in full force, wrapping Tokuchi up in its chilly hands. When the storm abates, the cherub can be seen floating on the surface of the pond. Abama is overjoyed.

With the Gym Leader having clocked a win, the match enters its fifth match-up which will see Chaos’s Scizor cross his pincers with the branches of Ayeun’s purple Shiftry. The Boss (er… Spingsteen much?) begins by commanding a tomb of rock to descend upon his foe, trapping him within. Just as I start to wonder if Slasher intends to bust free, a soft buzzing can be heard over the rain. Soon, it starts to grow louder until the rocks get blasted clear by Slasher’s rapid wing movements. Sonic waves rolls across the garden and throw The Boss right into the pagoda. That looked exorbitantly painful.

The Boss: <-20 HP; -3 EP>

The Boss commands another bevy of rocks to tumble down upon Slasher, this time with greater force. Raising those fearsome red pincers, Slasher slices through those rocks as though they were big globs of warm butter. Slasher zips toward The Boss and deals the big scary tree goblin an X-shaped slashing. The calling card of… Xorro?

Slasher and The Boss exchange their first set of attacks: one array of crushing rocks and one sonic onslaught of buggy mighty. As Slasher and The Boss suffer their hits, it becomes even more clear that this will be a very one-sided battle.

Bringing those thin but powerful wings to life once more, Slasher kicks off a few more sonic pulses. The Boss loses a few leaves in the process.

Demonstrating his dexterity, The Boss drops to the ground and sweeps a leg across the ground, tripping up Slasher and sending him careening into a mud puddle. Dirty or not, Slasher is still poised to Bug Buzz away. The Boss lets out another pained cry.

The Boss: <-20 HP; -4 EP>

As the match-up’s denouement dawns upon us, The Boss raises a weighty branch and catches Slasher in the gut just as the Scizor is rising to his feet. He feels his Defences taking a hit but there’s still nothing to stop that indomitable buzzing. The waves whip and rage against The Boss’s body.

All goes silent but for the rain as the Shiftry falls. Timber!

Despite his victory, Slasher can barely contain a yawn. That was too easy!
