Chaos vs Ayeun [Ref: Oslo]

I only have 1 non-gym match, and so, I'm starting up another battle.

And I talked Ayeun into letting me trounce her again. Coz getting her gym badge isn't enough.

Gonna use the same setup as your gym, 1v1 matches, first to 5. BUT! because you clearly need an advantage, I'm gonna let you choose who sends first and who attacks first each time. Should help a tad. (I asked on msn, you want to attack first for the first round)

Limitations: Gentlemen's agreement. (If you think it's bah-roken, don't use it. If I think it's bah-roken and you use it, I will use it too.)

Arena: A frozen lake. At the end of every second round (6 attacks), there is a chance the ice will start to break. Both pokemon have until the end of the next round to get off the lake, either by getting to the surrounding areas, or by getting aerial. If, during that warning round, any heavy impact happens to the lake, the lice breaks prematurely. After it breaks, the ref's ice pokemon will re-freeze the lake. Any pokemon that is on the ice when it breaks will take 5 ice damage, and will need to escape the lake within 3 attacks or be frozen. Earthquake/Dig would have modified effects based on the fact that we are on an ice lake. Also, it takes one action to swim out of the lake. (Same as the first time I fought you, here)

Good day, ladies and gents, and welcome to… jeepers, it’s freezing out here! As I stand at the side of a frozen lake desperately clinging to my Rapidash for warmth, two steely rivals step up to do battle once again. On one side we have Chaos and his tried-and-tested Ambipom while on the other we have Ayeun and her sturdy bladed penguin creature.

Goku cautiously tiptoes onto the icy surface of the lake while Empoleon, using her natural penguin affinity for slippery surfaces, calmly marches into battle. Starting defensively, Goku finds a smelly, discarded hockey mitt lying on the ground and imbues it with health. Empoleon, overcome by the bewitching effects of Substitute, mistakes this random piece of equipment for her opponent and begins to Yawn tremendously. A tiny puff of air pops out of her mouth and wafts over to the hockey mitt. It bursts against the Substitute but ultimately leaves it unscathed.

Sizzling with electric current, Goku directs his tails at his opponent and lets fly a crackling array of Thunderbolts. Empoleon tries to brace herself against the attack but she’s forced to eat the electricity like breakfast cereal. When muscle control returns, she fires off a pressurized blast of steaming water. The hockey mitt is sent flying across the pond’s icy surface. It’s drenched but still intact… and no longer smelly, either!

Struggling to stay upright, Goku deals another burst of sizzly goodness. What is a poor penguin supposed to do? She shakes off the attack and skates across the pond with elegant ease. One swift fin smack later and the hockey mitt splits in two, destroyed. About friggin’ time, too!

You know, instead of your standard 'sub' that you always use, why don't you just Taunt? Coz that is what that sub is. Its you taunting without using the move Taunt. And since the only move that goes through Magic coat is Teater dance, I am calling this an overused move... So next time, ether taunt, or don't sub spam it.

As the match presses on, Goku keeps up the heat with yet another Thunderbolt. Surprised that her own heart isn’t going in arrhythmia, Empoleon lets out another steaming burst of water that collides with Goku as opposed to his Substitute.

Attempting something physical, Goku gingerly tiptoes across the ice. Unwilling to wait for her opponent to get all the way over to her, Empoleon intercepts him with a luminous stream of colourful bubbles. The bubbles don’t help with the traction and Goku promptly lands on his butt. Grr. Giggling, Empoleon does a pirouette to display her traction. Show off!

Goku: <-9 HP>
Empoleon: <-5 EP>

Without bothering to stand up, Goku deals the fourth Thunderbolt of the round. This one carries an added bonus of causing Empoleon’s muscles to stiffen. Goku giggles at his little spot of luck. Gliding toward Goku, she furiously smacks her opponent in the face as though busting a brick. Who’s laughing now, jerkface!?

All goes silent as the Pokemon wait for the sound of cracking ice. It doesn't come.

Yet another burst of sizzles and sparkles erupts from Goku’s tails, giving Empoleon what should logically at this point be irreversible brain damage. Of course, because there’s anime physics, the Water-type is just unpleasantly jolted. Letting out a battle cry, she slams her foot against the ground. Tremors travel down the ice, shooting cracks every which way. Suddenly, two snaps and splashes are immediately heard as Goku and Empoleon break through the ice and slip beneath the surface.

The water is still below freezing and both Pokemon feel the cold burn right away.

Goku: <-8 EP; -5 HP arena hazard>
Empoleon: <-15 HP; -4 EP; -5 HP arena hazard>

The water goes relatively still after a moment as we’re left to stare at the broken surface of the once-frozen lake. Peering around in confusion, we wait… until… oh, yes, there it is! Triumphantly, Goku’s head rises from beneath the surface. Whoo! Freedom! However, the Ambipom’s joy is cut short: he tries desperately to Bounce from the water, but without a solid surface he can use to propel himself into the air, he’s left to flounder like a… well, like a drowning monkey, basically. No sign of Empoleon yet...

And suddenly, Empoleon’s hand grabs his tails and tugs him back beneath the surface. Glug!

Goku: <Helpmehelpmehelpme!>
Empoleon: <Drown, fucker, drown!>

Bear-hugged by Empoleon’s powerful arms and sinking rapidly, Goku realizes with horror that he can’t escape. He struggles and writhes, desperately trying to fight free and return to the land of oxygen, but he can’t. Paralysis kicks in and Empoleon’s arms go rigid, which only makes it harder for the Ambipom to pry them open. His lungs begin to burn as suffocation robs him of health.

Suddenly, the severe cold begins to affect not only Goku but also Empoleon as well. Ice crystals form around the two Pokemon, binding them together into one massive misshapen ice cube that gradually starts floating to the surface.

The Pokemoncicle encasing Goku and Empoleon continues to bob there in the water as my lovely Lapras gets to work on refreezing the lake. Goku’s immobile fist begins to flicker with fire, which slowly melts the surrounding ice binding the two Pokemon together. Freed, Empoleon returns to her previous strategy of drown, drown, drown. One rapid Aqua Jet propels Goku deep beneath the water.

And with that, Aquafresh finishes up. Newly frozen once again.

Empoleon: <-2 EP>

With only a bit of oxygen in his lungs to sustain him, Goku knows he needs to make quick work. He uses Thunderbolt, which doesn’t actually materialize in the form of a bolt at all. Instead, the current diffuses evenly through the water and ends up shocking both Empoleon and himself in the process. Empoleon, overcome with Paralysis, merely remains suspended in the water like some kind of penguin ghost thing.

Empoleon: <-15 HP; Can’t move!>

Coming to life with another sudden Aqua Jet, Empoleon pushes Goku even further from the surface. Lungs burning and body weak, Goku begins to suffocate yet again. Overcome by alarm, Goku flails around wildly and performs one final Thunderbolt. The electricity again diffuses through the water, electrocuting both battlers and finishing them off.

Peering through the ice, we watch as the immobile bodies of Goku and Empoleon float upwards, still trapped beneath the frozen surface. They look so creepily peaceful.

With the score still even, Chaos summons an airborne cherub into battle while Ayeun, on the other hand, counters with an ironclad snake that writhers onto the ice. As one might expect, a sudden cracking noise fills the wintry air. Tokuchi kicks things off by firing off a concentrated pulse of water that, right off the bat, sends Steelix into a confused rage. A little off-kilter, he begins snapping around the air with ice-laden fangs and manages to land a hit on the Togekiss. The Sheer Force of the attack makes the burn of the ice extra potent.

Tokuchi: <-15 HP; -4 EP>
Steelix: <-9 HP; -5 EP; Cfn>

This time, Tokuchi goes for a full-force tackle that clobbers Steelix in the snout, doing minimal damage without a secondary effect. Steelix shrugs off the attack (inasmuch as something without shoulders can shrug) and goes for another painful bite. Om nom nom. Nummy Togekiss.

Tokuchi: <-12 HP; -7 EP>
Steelix: <-6 HP; -6 EP>

Tokuchi deals another Body Slam, but doesn’t manage to use his Serene Grace to induce a secondary effect. Steelix tries to pummel his foe with a barrage of rocks, but instead decides that chewing on his own tail would be a much more effective strategy. He does that for a while until his head begins to clear and he notes with embarrassment what he’s doing. Well, at least his head is back in the game.

As the match presses on, Tokuchi again tries to renew her Confusion attempt with a cold pulse of fresh water. Steelix roars and once again enters a rage, thrashing about wildly. The Confused beast still manages to land an Ice Fang and… dude, is anyone else getting déjà vu?

Tokuchi throws herself forward for another Body Slam, striking Steelix in the snout once again without any further effect. Steelix, meanwhile, resumes chewing on that delicious tail of his. This time, though, he doesn’t immediately come to his senses.

Steelix: <-6 HP; -3 HP Confusion>

Another Body Slam and, bam, Steelix goes unpleasantly stiff and rigid! How exactly that widdle cherub managed to induce a full-body Paralysis is beyond me. Bellowing, Steelix catches Tokuchi in his fangs and punishes her with icy energy.
