"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee?"

Maybe that worked for teh great Muhammed Ali, but Atlas has to stay still for this one.

Atlas, while he's using Focus Energy, use Bulk Up.

Then, while he's using Agility, simply brace yourself.

Then, meet his Fly attack with a Counter.

As the heat only seems to rise, Blue Bird swirls around in circles, his pupils shrink and his wings only beat faster as he becomes focused. With a sudden loop, Blue Bird is back to glaring down at his fighting foe.

Atlas ignores the glare, seeing only to flex his already toned muscles and show off. He smirks up at Blue Bird who seems slightly annoyed that again the Fighting type proves to be just as cocky as he was last round.

    Well that’s going to change.

Blue Bird pulls up, doing a extremely large loop, that seems to draw on more adrenaline. The pain in his wing tip fades and he forgets all about the world as he dives. Wings arched back much like a hawk who is dive-bombing their prey. The blue blur that whizzes towards Atlas only continues to pick up speed, but Atlas seems not afraid, instead he braces himself, and then.

It was a sharp, almost knife like pain that hit Atlas’s chest. He cringes, trying not to shut his eyes completely, as they are key for his next move. They widen in surprise as they watch blue bird pull away, blood splattered on his face and beak.

Ignoring the sheer pain; Atlas reaches out, his hand wrapping around Taillow’s foot and then wrenching him back. Blue Bird cries out in shock as he is slammed into the ground, and then thrown. The force of the throw sends the flyer inches past a spire of rocks that has jutted out of the lava, and the right into volcanic wall.

A startled cry is all that comes out of Blue Bird, and then there is silence.

Suddenly, a figure appears on a ledge. It is Blue Bird! With a disgruntled expression, he opens his wings and takes to air, though his foot is hanging limply from his body…

Cystal, both pokemon started at full health. I think we were down a little at the start of the round.

    Anyway...

    Atlas, first use Double Team.

Then blast him with Flamethrower again.

    Next, use Rock Slide.

If he tries to dive bomb you with Fly or Sky Attack, use Counter again. We'll teach him.

    "We'll teach him?"

OK, BB, we know how to handle this, right? Start off with Aerial Ace to dispel those pesky clones, and then slam Atlas with a Steel Wing. Finish with Quick Attack to dodge the Rock Slide and give Atlas a quick hit.

Just as it seems things couldn’t get worse for poor Blue Bird, it seems that fate has an odd sense of humor. Atlas suddenly splits into copies of himself, each one wearing a rather confident smirk. But it seems that the gods favor the flyer this round, as he swoops in low and then sweeps upwards with tremendous speed, sending two sickle shaped bursts of air threw the clones and into the Machop.
Atlas growls; he takes a deep breathe, and then expels it all out. Flames ignite in his mouth and stream out towards the flyer. Blue Bird ignores the sheer heat, doing a wide turn as his wings shimmer and sparkle, turning into steel that quickly turns red hot from the flames.
Atlas redirects his blast, getting a good hit in before his fiery spell ends. Surprised he is, by the sight of a half charred bird racing towards him. Blue Bird turns slightly, letting his body going into a barrel roll. His steel wing slams right into the fighter, sending Machop tumbling back, almost right off the piece of dried rock.

Now thoroughly annoyed, Atlas reached down and takes a smoldering rock again. He waits and then…

Blue Bird turns upwards sharply as a rock comes slamming down in front of him, he picks up speed and is forced to do a lot of aerial maneuvers to dodge what seems to be a meteor shower! Rocks that are aflame tumble down all around him. Making a daring move, the bird swoops down low, becoming only a blur that narrowly misses being smashed into the lava by a flaming rock.
But with that, Blue Bird is in the clear! He slams into Atlas again, and quickly pulls away, quite happy with the damage he’s done.

    END!

OK, BB, the score's are tied - let's take the lead!

Start off with Double Team, then use Wing Attack. End with Steel Wing.

If he uses a Rock-type attack at any time, switch to Quick Attack to dodge and attack.

Using Double Team? Against a Fighting Type?

Don't laugh, Atlas, it would be cruel.

Okay, Atlas, when he uses Double Team, render it useless by using Foresight to keep tabs on the real one.

    Then, use Flamethrower.

When he comes at you with Steel Wing, use Counter again.

Going on the defensive for a moment, Blue Bird speeds up for a moment, spawning multiple copies of himself. They swirl around, looking like a deranged flock of sparrows that are trying to figure out exactly why they are in a volcano in the first place.
Instead of being daunted though, Atlas smiles, he holds in his laughter best he can as his eyes let out a burst of red light. The light scans the arena and causes a red glow to emanate from Blue Bird.

Blue Bird rolls his eyes in annoyance and turns towards Atlas, his wings glowing with a tint of blue, showing the flying energy in them. His body starts to do a barrel roll with Atlas spews out a streak of deadly flames.
They torch the Taillow, but even so, the flyer speeds up his barrel roll and thwacks Atlas in the end, dealing a good amount of damage.

Blue Bird ignores how charred he is, and swings around again. He feels the familiar sensation of his wings turning to cold, undaunted steel as he dives towards Atlas. Blue Bird gets another direct hit! But it seems his opponent has a surprise for him…

Atlas grabs the flyer again, but this time, by the throat. A sadistic smirk spread across the fighter’s face as he lifts the bird above his head and the throws him down. Blue Bird lets out a strangled cry as he is choke-slammed into the cooled magma.

Taillow flees then, flying desperately away from the evil Machop.

Evil Machop? You're the one who's being so graphic in the descriptions.

Atlas, listen, this might be the last round for both of you. Listen up.

Use Scary Face first to unnerve him.

Then, use Rock Slide one more time.

Finally, let it all out with a Fire Blast!

If at any time he uses a Flying attack, switch your current move to Protect. You haven't used it yet, so it should be effective.

That's a rather cocky elucidation from the guy who used Double Team himself - twice, in fact - against a Pokemon capable of learning Aerial Ace, Swift, AND Pursuit.

Now, BB, let's finish that smug little sadist off. Counter his Scary Face by closing your eyes and firing a Swift attack at him, and then open your eyes and dodge both his Rock Slide AND his Fire Blast with your patented Quick Attack.

I want to point out that Blue Bird cannot close its eyes and attack at the same time. That amounts to two actions at once.

I'ma step in here for a moment. DS, that sort of thing is entirely up to the ref; some refs might think it not too complicated for a Pokemon to close its eyes while attacking. I mean, sure, if the Pokemon were to, say, do a triple somersault then meow while attacking, that probably would be a bit too much. There's a fine line there.

Er, long story short, let the ref decide. I've had many battles where I've used that same strategy.

    GO!
Atlas begins this round by pulling one of the ugliest, most terrifying faces in the world. He attempts to strike fear in his feathered nemesis, but alas, Blue Bird has shut his eyes, he flaps there, undaunted by the hideousness he cannot see. With a quick flap of his half charred wings, brilliant golden stars shoot out.

These stars slice through the air, spinning faster and faster before they are only a gold blur that slices into Atlas, ripping open his skin and causing blood to ooze from the narrow cuts. Atlas cringes, but isn’t deterred.

Atlas huffs, angered by his wounds his grabs a rock, and hurls it towards Blue Bird, who opens his eyes just in time to see a rock flying towards him. Reacting late the bird bolts, getting tagged by the rock as he flies. But he isn’t down yet, as more rocks slam and splash into the lava, he goes faster. Propelled by a rage trapped in his heart…

As another rock nearly tags Blue Bird, he increases his speed, becoming nothing more then a blue that slams HARD into Atlas.

Atlas winces as his eyes roll back into his head. The Machop falls to the ground, defeated. But then, Blue Bird lets out a half cry, and falls from the sky only to land on top of his opponent. The burns on his skin proving more then a match for the Taillow.

Now, time to bring out the heavy artillery... Go, Unagi, my mighty Gyarados(M)!

    "GROAAAAAAAAARHHHH!!"

Now... Lookie at that, Unagi. A pinata... Well, it IS almost your birthday...

Start off with Taunt, and then use Flamethrower to roast that duck up nice and crispy. Then, use Thunderbolt to fry her even further.

Lily, use Uproar. The noise should drown out its Taunt.

Then, when it uses Flamethrower, meet it with Hydro Pump to extinguish the fire.

Then, run forward and slam that huge thing with a Body Slam. Hopefully you'll avoid the Thunderbolt.

    I have a further question.

If a pokemon were to use Sunny Day or Rain Dance in this locale, what would happen? We're at the top of a huge volcano, so I don't know if either would bring the usual result.

Given that it's your arena, the choice would ultimately be yours. If no exceptions were stated, I would be inclined to just have them act like normal, but since it's your arena, so long as you set it one way and keep it that way, it's fine.

    GO!

Now here are two very, very different Pokemon. One is a duck with a sombrero on her head, who is dancing joyfully around the ever so slowly melting frame. The other is a gigantic sea-serpent; he looms over the duck, his slit eyes watching the happy duck like a hawk on a mouse.

But now its time to see who can be louder, Unagi curls back, and begins to throw insults about like there is no tomorrow, but Lily chooses to try to ignore the taunts, and instead lets out a giant uproar. But sounds clash together, and Unagi ends up getting a bit of damage while Lily is somewhat pestered.

A move used frequently by Atlas makes a roaring come back, Unagi doesn’t even need to heave as he releases a powerful flamethrower; it grows larger and more powerful with the heat of the volcano. But its damage is halved by a Hydro Pump which is weakened by the sheer temperature of this hellhole.

Lily makes a daring move now; she runs forward, leaping clear off the metal frame and flies towards Unagi. He growls, his body crackles and sparks before he releasing a deadly thunderbolt. It shocks Lily, but she still manages to slam into the sea serpent, before falling onto a piece of dried magma. She quickly gets up, huffing as the sparks still bounce around on her body.

Okay then. I'll rule that weather-affecting moves have their normal effects.

    Lily, first, use Sunny Day.

Next, use Giga Drain on that big lug.

    Then, fire off a Solarbeam.

If he makes it rain using Rain Dance, change tactics. Instead of using Giga Drain, use Ice Beam instead, and instead of using Solarbeam, use Blizzard. Remember, change the plan only if it is raining.

Unagi, we're gonna have some fun this round.

Wait for Sunny Day to take effect, and then use dispel it with Hail.

Then, counter that Giga Drain with a Flamethrower, and while she's trying to charge a Solarbeam in a hailstorm, turn the temperature down even further with a Blizzard.

If for some reason she switches to her Rain Dance moves (Hail is more like rain than sunlight, after all.), then you switch yours, too - fry her with Thunderbolt again, and then melt away that Blizzard with a Fire Blast.

    Move: Hail, Flamethrower, Blizzard

It's entirely up to the ref, but I do not think the weather can be switched from Sunny Day to Hail immediately. Other battles I've seen have either had such an attempt simply cancel out the Sunny Day, or treat it as Rain Dance.

Like I said, it is up to the ref.
