Default 2004-2005 TPM GSC Monotype Challenge

Progress:

Bellsprout Tower was quite easy. Tackle and Rock Throw OHKO'ed everything. Geodude gained 2 levels and became level 14.

I healed, bought some pots, and left Violet City. Some guy gave me a Miracle Seed. Unfortunately my mono type is Ground, and there aren't any Ground/Grass pokés made by TPC yet.

The trainers were no trouble except the fisherman with 2 level 8 Poliwags. Bubble did far more damage than I could heal, and the second Poliwag killed Geodude off. Wooper never stood a chance because I never healed him after catching it. The second try was easier, with Rock Throw OHKO'ing both, but leaving Geodude with around 20 HP.

Geodude hit level 17 and learned Magnitude at 16th. I also caught the aforementioned Wooper. It took one tackle and a single Pokéball.

Goals:

- Progress onto second gym
- Have Geodude hit level 20
- After Geodude reaches level 20, start training Wooper
- Rescue Slowpokes

Status:

Geodude (Level 17, Male) -- Defense Curl; Magnitude; Rock Throw; Tackle -- @Hard Stone
Wooper (Level 6, Male) -- Tail Whip; Water Gun
Egg -- It moves around inside sometimes. It must be close to hatching.

Location: Route 32
Badges: 1 (Zephyrbadge)
Time: 2:00
Pokédex: 3
Money: 284 Poké-money-unit

Default 2004-2005 TPM GSC Monotype Challenge

Progress:

I woke up and immediately rushed to my GBC . I started going to Azalea Town. The entire cave area, and the trainers right before and right after the cave gave Geodude 2 levels, bringing him to L19. I considered getting an Onix at the cave, but decided against, as I want few strong pokémon instead of 6 average. After the cave, I saved the Slowpokes in the well. The first rocket brought Geodude to L20, so I kept to my goal and put Wooper in front.

Being level 6 and only having Tail Whip and Water Gun, for now I just used the switch-immediately-to-stronger-pokemon-to-get-half-the-xp-without-doing-anything technique. Wooper gained 2 levels and became level 8.

I healed and went to Kurt, grabbed my Lure Ball, gave him a white apricorn, and headed to the Gym.

It was ridiculously easy. Rock Throw OHKO'ed everything in the gym. Geodude gained 2 levels and Wooper gained 3 in the gym, plus I got a shiny new Hive Badge.

Geodude learned Selfdestruct and Wooper learned Slam at the gym. After grabbing the badge and TM, I went to the pokécenter and saved at 2:50.

Goals:

- Progress onto third gym
- Get Wooper to Level 20

Status:

Geodude (Level 22, Male) -- Magnitude; Rock Throw; Selfdestruct; Tackle -- @Hard Stone
Wooper (Level 11, Male) -- Slam; Tail Whip; Water Gun
Egg -- It's making sounds inside. It's going to hatch soon!

Location: Azalea Town
Badges: 2 (Zephyrbadge; Hive Badge)
Time: 2:50
Pokédex: 3
Money: 2047 Poké-money-unit

Progress:

I decided to pick up on this again . So I picked up my trusty GBC, and started power-leveling Geodude at the Slowpoke Well. Seeing how that went extremely slowly, I decided to go to the little grass patch in front of the cave instead, and voila -- training there proved to be easier (Can't use Magnitude against Zubats, the grass patch had different pokes too). Geodude gained 2 levels, becoming level 24. Togepi hatched out, and promptly was returned to the PC due to my discrimination of all non-ground pokes .

I grabbed poisoncure berries, a white apricorn, grabbed my fast ball from Kurt, healed, gave the white apricorn to Kurt, and headed out to Ilex Forest.

... whoops, rival battle. But again, nobody expects the rival battle! Geodude OHKOed everything is all I can say. Rock throw vs Gastly, Selfdestruct vs Croconaw, and another Rock Throw vs Zubat (Yes, I had to use up a revive ). I healed again, and tried to go into Ilex Forest again.

Saved the apprentice's Farfetch'd, received HM01 Cut, went back to Azalea to grab my charcoal from the apprentice (most people don't know about that ).

Now I faced a dilemma.. none of my pokemon could learn Cut! Without Cut, I'd be stuck here in Azalea (or could go back you know, but still!). If I was playing on Gold, I could catch a Sandshrew but alas, I'm playing on Silver. This is the only cartridge I have left, so no trading either.

Simply put, I had to break the pure-ground clause because there's no way possible to cut that tree down with a ground type at this spot in Silver. So I decided to catch a Paras, one of my fave pokes (at least I don't look like a sellout if I do that ).

It took just one great ball (no attacks used) to get a level 5 male Paras. Taught it Cut, and finally moved onward!

Seeing the "there might be items dropped" sign, I simply started A all over the place and got meself a Full Heal, Super Potion, and an Ether! Free ! I got TM02 (?) Headbutt from a green haired dude, and TM12 (?) Sweet Scent from the lady at the border-type-house-thingy.

I battled the trainers in the grassy area inbetween the border-type-house-thingy and the Daycare Center. Gina got Geodude to level 25, and Geodude evolved into Graveler! I took her phone number as a result. Maybe she can be like my girlfriend or something =P.

Cleared the area up to Goldenrod pokecenter and healed. I decided to skip the pokemart for now due to my habit of using up all my money in the mega-pokemarts (Celadon, Goldenrod, etc.). I met Bill's little sister (Hey-o!) and got his phone number and decided to give him a call. Apparently he just tells you how much space you have in your current box though (grumble.. I thought he could give me a Kabuto or something =(). Went underground to get a Coin Case (so I could try to get a Sandshrew, one of my fave pokes). The trainers there had Graveler level up, becoming level 26. I had Graveler get a haircut (no idea how that works, Graveler's as hairy as this gameboy), and traveled a bit more, stealing borrowing a bicycle from the bike guy, telling him I'd "advertise" (heh heh.. sucker). I went into the Game Center. I could get a shiny new Sandshrew for 700 coins! What a bargain! I got 100 coins (for 2000 poké-money-unit.. rip-off! =(). I started playing the slots. Got 777 once, would I get lucky again?

Yes! ! I now had 630 coins. I wasn't going to risk a third time, and decided to just buy 100 coins. After paying another 2000 poké-money-unit (grumble..). I went to the prize counter and got my level 10 male Sandshrew! My ground dream-team is slowly forming out (well, I can't get Cubone for a long while =().

I went back to the PokéCenter, healed and saved at 4:24.

Goals:

- Level Wooper and Sandshrew
- Get third badge

Status:

Graveler (Level 26, Male) -- Magnitude; Rock Throw; Selfdestruct; Tackle -- @Hard Stone
Sandshrew (Level 10, Male) -- Defense Curl; Scratch
Wooper (Level 11, Male) -- Slam; Tail Whip; Water Gun

PC:
Cyndaquil (Level 7, Male) -- Leer; Smokescreen; Tackle
Togepi (Level 5, Male) -- Charm; Growl
Paras (Level 5, Male) -- Cut; Scratch

Location: Goldenrod City
Badges: 2 (Zephyrbadge; Hive Badge)
Time: 4:24
Pokédex: 7
Money: 1347 Poké-money-unit (almost 1337!)

Progress:

I went north and in the little border-house-thingy, Randy the guard gave me Kenya the Spearow (Level 10, Female) with a mail for his friend. I went into the gym. I made Wooper the first of the party, and used the switch-to-Graveler-to-have-Wooper-gain-muchos-levelos technique that I originated at Bugsy's gym =P.

How did it go? Hah! Everything got OHKOed by Graveler. Instead of a final battle of epic proportions, Miltank just tried to Attract Graveler. Graveler was not impressed and dropped a Magnitude 10 on the cow, effectively winning me a Plainbadge . I just had to go back to the PokéCenter once when I tried (foolishly) to fight with Wooper, taking Wooper down to 7 HP before Graveler interfered. Wooper gained 3 levels and Graveler gained 1 level. Graveler tried to learn Harden, but was immediately forced to not learn no such crappy move =P.

I went back to the center and healed. Hiker Anthony of Route 33 called me, saying he wants to battle me again. Not gonna happen anytime soon, I'm not backtracking THAT far .

I went into the Goldenrod Shopping Centre. Immediately went to the roof and bought 4 cans each of the vending machine drinks, which are awesome. They heal more than potions and cost less, and I always stock up on them. I went down the stairs, and this lady at the counter decided that Graveler was happy and gave me TM27 Return! Free ! I went down the stairs again and cried at my inability to buy drugs steroids medicine, which costed a redundant 9800 poké-money-unit each =(! I went all over the mart and left.

I got the Squirtbottle from the psycho gardener lady, and headed north. After defeating Kim (?) with a level 14 female Vulpix with Wooper only, Mum called and said she bought something with my money. I decide to check it out later, and keep moving.

I beat this guy trying to impress his girlfriend with Wooper and Sandshrew. Wooper leveled and got to level 15. "My boyfriend's weak and I can't rely on him." -- line of the year. Unfortunately, girlfriend Brooke had a level 16 female Pikachu, an electric type. Against a ground type trainer, this meant victimization of electric types, and the girlfriend went down too.

"I can count on my pokémon more than my boyfriend." - second line of the year.

I stupidly ended up having Wooper and Sandshrew faint, and went back to Goldenrod Pokécenter and healed and came back. Well, after Juggler Irwin challenged me.

Quick Factoid of the day: Level 2 Voltorbs are really not going to do anything against a level 27 Graveler.

I went to the Radio Centre while I was back. My ID numbers didn't match (grumble..). Took 3 tries to get the Radio card =(. I explored a bit more, and remembered Mum's gift. It turned out to be a Repel. I like Repel =).

I went to the bug contest area, and grabbed the Quick Claw from the teacher. I gave it to Wooper. Until I get Mystic Water (?), Wooper will hold that (probably..). I grabbed all the goodies at the outer edge of the area, including TM 28, Dig .

I got a call from the bike shop. Apparently their bike sales have "gone through the roof". And they said I could keep the bike. Yeah.. *looks around shiftily*.

I battled all the trainers in the area. One girl sent out Cubone . I wanted to knock her down, grab the Cubone and run but there isn't an option for that in the game (grumble..), so I just water gunned it down. That same girl got Wooper to level 17 and Graveler to level 28. "The way you looked, I thought you liked me!" - I'm hot commodity after all. Eat THAT, hot cheerleaders.

Sandshrew got to level 11 and learned Sand-attack after killing forcing a level 15 Voltorb into a coma faint-age (?!). I left the park and got an Ice Berry.

I caught Sudowoodo easily, using Water Gun liberally to take it down to very little HP and throwing a Great Ball. Some guy gave me TM08, Rock Smash for getting Sudowoodo out of there. Free !

I healed off at Violet City PokéCenter and dropped off Sudowoodo at the PC, again with my discrimination of non-ground types =P. I dropped off Charcoal and Miracle Seed at my PC, seeing as I can't ever use them in this game (No Fire/Ground; No Grass/Ground).

I decided that this report is too long, so I saved at 6:00 and took a break =P.

Goals:

- Head out to Gym 4, clearing all trainers inbetween
- Level Sandshrew and Wooper to at least level 20, make sure Graveler doesn't go past 30 (I can only control pokés up to level 30)

Status:

Graveler (Level 28, Male) -- Magnitude; Rock Throw; Selfdestruct; Tackle -- @Hard Stone
Sandshrew (Level 11, Male) -- Defense Curl; Sand Attack; Scratch
Wooper (Level 18, Male) -- Slam; Tail Whip; Water Gun -- @Quick Claw
* Kenya [Spearow] (Level 10, Female) [Ralph's] -- Peck; Growl; Leer -- @Flower Mail

* To be given away to the other guard.

PC:
Cyndaquil (Level 7, Male) -- Leer; Smokescreen; Tackle
Togepi (Level 5, Male) -- Charm; Growl
Paras (Level 5, Male) -- Cut; Scratch
Sudowoodo (Level 20, Male) -- Flail; Low Kick; Mimic; Rock Throw

Trainer ID: 34586
Location: Violet City
Badges: 3 (Zephyrbadge; Hive Badge; Plainbadge)
Time: 6:00
Pokédex: 9
Money: 6677 Poké-money-unit

Progress:

First thing on the list was getting rid of this pesky Spearow. I headed east and gave the Spearow (and the message) to the guy who sleeps next to the Bitter Berry tree. I got TM50 Nightmare for it. I headed back to Goldenrod, to the original guard who gave me the messagebird Spearow Kenya, and he gave me a HP-Up! Free ! I promptly gave it to Graveler.

After that, I just walked around, clearing everywhere. Found (and looted) TM04 Rollout. I got Magnet from Sunny, but once again the whole no-dual-types-to-fit-the-bill make it useless (No Lightning/Ground =(). I also grabbed the 3 apricorns around sunny (Blue, Black, Red). Wooper got to level 19 from the battle against twins Ann & Anne.

I headed out to Ecruteak. I went to the PC, and the game froze. I thought there was gonna be a rival battle, because nobody expects the rival battle! However it was just Bill. He said he fixed the Time Capsule and he's going back to Goldenrod. Time to get my free Eevee =). I healed, and deposited the apricorns and the Magnet.

I went back to Goldenrod, grabbed the Eevee, tucked it in the box, and came up with an idea: put Paras in the daycare center. Since Paras is one of my favorite pokés, I want to have a high level one. It should be fun, I'll just check how many levels it grew after like getting 16 badges and walking a lot =). (I obviously won't/can't use it, but I'm doing this for fun.)

I headed back to Ecruteak. I decide to try my luck at the Kimono Girls. Only problem would be Vaporeon, the water evolution of Eevee. Jolteon should be a breeze and the others shouldn't prove to be a problem.

1st girl: Level 17 Flareon. Sand attacks a lot, and Wooper can't water gun it down even though it's 2 levels higher. Graveler Magnitude 7s for OHKO.
2nd girl: Level 17 Espeon. Switch to Graveler, Espeon gets in 2 confusions. Magnitude 7 for OHKO. Graveler hits level 29.
Mum calls me, says she bought something with my money again (grumble..).
3rd girl: Level 17 Umbreon. Switch to Graveler. Tackles for 1 damage. Magnitude 10 for OHKO. Wooper hits level 20. Wooper evolves into Quagsire.
I switch Quagsire with Sandshrew, whom is just level 11 and needs to be trained fast!
4th girl: Level 17 Vaporeon. Switch to Graveler. Water guns for 50 damage and OHKO.
Yikes.
Send out Quagsire. Super Potion, 70/70 HP. Tail whips successfully. Water guns for 11 damage. Quagsire slams for almost half. Tackles for 6 damage. Quagsire slams it down to 1/8th life (red). Quagsire slams it for KO. Sandshrew hits level 12.
I head back to the PokéCenter and heal, and go back for what should be the easiest - Jolteon.
5th girl: Level 17 Jolteon. Tail whip fails. Sandshrew (accidentally) defense curls successfully. Tackles for 5. Sandshrew scratches for very little. Sand-attacks unsuccessfully. Sandshrew scratches for very little. Tail whips successfully. Sandshrew scratches for very little. Tackles for 7. Sandshrew scratches down to almost half. Sand-attacks successfully. Sandshrew scratches down to orange. Tackles for 6. Sandshrew critical-hit scratches down to red. Tackles for 7. Sandshrew scratches unsuccessfully. Sand-attacks successfully. Sandshrew scratches unsuccessfully. Tackles for 7. Sandshrew scratches down to very little. Sandshrew is potioned for +20 life. Tackles for 7. Tackles for 6. Sandshrew scratches for KO. Sandshrew hits level 13.

Booya! With the exception of Vaporeon, my team's strong enough to take on a variety of pokémon. Grass pokés really hurt, but I plan on catching a Swinub (Ice/Ground) to cover that, or just teach Fire Punch to Graveler. I grab HM03 Surf from the old guy. I immediately teach it to Quagsire, even though it can't use outside yet it's still one of the greatest attacks in the game, period.

I explore a bit more. Some guy in a house gives me an Itemfinder. Free ! I buy 2 Great Balls, and head out to the gym. I wonder what LightNinetales did with her all-normal squad against a ghost gym, but I should be fine .

I use my now-common gym technique of having-the-weak-poké-out-first-and-switching-it-immediately-so-he-gains-experience-without-being-in-danger-and-gains-lots-of-xp-and-levels-because-it's-too-low-a-level technique with Sandshrew and Graveler. If Graveler gains 2 levels before beating Morty, he won't listen to me anymore! With that, I start.

1st Minion: Five level 16 male Gastlies (?). I bring up Sandshrew, retreat for Graveler and OHKO with Rock Throw. His Gastlies (?) use Curse, Spite, Curse, Curse, Lick. The last Gastly's lick does 2 damage. Sandshrew hits level 14.
2nd Minion: Level 20 female Haunter. Switch. Licks Graveler for 3 damage. Spites for no effect. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Second lvl20(f) Haunter. Mean Looks Graveler. Licks for 3 damage and paralyzes. Graveler can't Rock Throw, fully paralyzed. Curses Graveler. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Sandshrew hits level 15.
3rd Minion: Level 22 male Haunter. Switch. Spites for no effect. Night Shades for 22. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Sandshrew hits level 16.
4th Minion: Level 18 female Gastly. Switch. Curses Graveler. Licks for 2 damage. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Level 20 female Haunter. I screw up and don't auto-switch to Sandshrew. Switch to Sandshrew. Spites for no effect. Switch to Graveler. Licks for 3 damage. Curses Graveler. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Graveler hits level 30. Level 20 female Gastly. Autoswitch to Sandshrew. Switch to Graveler. Spites for no effect. Licks for 2 damage. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO.

4 minions in a row results in 37 damage to Graveler. Graveler is paralyzed. I head back to PokéCenter and heal.

Morty: Level 21 male Gastly. Switch to Graveler. Licks for 3 damage and paralyze. Curses Graveler. Graveler is fully paralyzed and can't Rock Throw. Graveler's curse does 22 damage to it. Licks for 3 damage. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Sandshrew hit level 17 and learned Poison Sting. Level 21 male Haunter. Autoswitch to Sandshrew. Switch to Graveler. Hypnosises (?) for no effect. Night Shades for 21 damage. Graveler misses Rock Throw. Curses Graveler. Graveler is fully paralyzed and is hit for 12 damage by Curse. Lemonade on Graveler for +80 HP. Graveler's curse does 22 damage to it. Night Shades for 21 damage. Night Shades for 19 damage. Graveler Rock Throws for OHKO. Level 23 male Haunter. Autoswitch to Sandshrew. Switch to Quagsire. Night Shades for 23 damage. Night Shades for 23 damage. Quagsire surfs it down to less than half. Night Shades for 23 damage. Quagsire surfs for KO. Level 25 male Gengar. Autoswitch to Sandshrew. Lemonade on Graveler for +80 HP. Hypnosises (?) for no effect. Switch to Graveler. Hypnosises (?) for no effect. Shadow Balls for 14 damage. Graveler is fully paralyzed and can't Rock Throw. Mean Looks Gengar. Graveler is fully paralyzed and can't Rock Throw. Shadow Balls for 14 damage. Graveler Rock Throws down to 1/4th (orange). Shadow Balls for 14 damage. Graveler Rock Throws for the KO and wins the badge. Sandshrew hits level 18.

Boo yah! Fog Badge! Plus I got TM30 Shadow Ball. I head back to PokéCenter, heal my team and save at 7:25.

Goals:

- Head out to Olivine City
- Level Sandshrew to 20+, have team be level 25+ by Gym 5

Status:

Graveler (Level 30, Male; Evolved lvl25) {88HP} -- Magnitude; Rock Throw; Selfdestruct; Tackle -- @Hard Stone
Quagsire (Level 20, Male; Evolved lvl20) {70HP} -- Slam; Surf; Tail Whip; Water Gun -- @Quick Claw

Default Re: 2004-2005 TPM GSC Monotype Challenge

Well, I was away for a long long time and I'm currently playing Sapphire, but I'll post some logs of other MTC's that I've completed in the last few months.

Blowing new life into this. It probably be for myself alone, but meh, I'm bored.

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

We'll join our Monotype Hero Matt, he always wanted to be an ice pogeymanz master! Ever since he met the Legendary Articuno. So he's starting his quest today, but didn't found any Ice pokemon to start with.

He visited Professor Elm at new bark town and wishes to start on a quest for him. The professor agreed, but Matt had to prove himself in the eyes of the professor. All things aside, Matt started his test-quest for the professor, by taking a pokemon and going to Mr.Pokemon.

Matt quickly succeeded in the test and brought back an Egg for professor Elm and decided to start his real Monotype quest. When he got there the police was all over the place and Matt wondered what happened. After Professor Elm explained it all, he realised he had battled a trainer on the way and told the police about it. That put away he thanked Professor Elm for the Totodile, that didn't seem to happy being around Matt, and got on his way.

After training up his Totodile two levels, he started to notice the anger in Totodile's behaviour and quickly caught another pokemon, it was a ratata. This one wasn't any friendlier, so Matt decided to go to Cherrygrove and see if he could catch any Ice pokemon there.

When he entered Cherrygrove he got a tour around the city and a Map card at the end. He was overjoyed and forgot what he was doing here. He healed his pokemon, when he suddenly remembered his quest. He searched around in the pokemon center, until he found a strange man with a cold look on his face.

Suddenly Matt exploded as he heard that the man was willing to trade a Swinub and a Seel for his Totodile and Rattata. This was a no-brainer for Matt, since the two pokemon didn't seem to like him that much.

After he traded the pokemon, he started training them up. One one of those training programs Matt noticed that both the pokemon holded an Item. He couldn't believe his eyes when he found an Earthquake TM and some Leftovers. He quickly learned his beloved Swinub the TM and handed the Leftovers to his Seel.

After training them up to l.7, he decided to face the trainers along the route to Violet City...

We hope you'll tune in for the next serie of our hero's journey.

Pokemon:

Seel@Leftovers [M] l.7: Headbutt_Growl_Rest
Swinub@------- [M] l.7: Tackle_Earthquake

************

We left our hero Matt at the route towards Violet.

Matt quickly disposed off the oposing trainers and made his way into Violet city. There he healed his pokemon and headed for the Sprout Tower. He trained up to l.11, but when they reached that level they started ignoring Matt. Matt was horrorstruct. They were both powerfull pokemon that could win battles even though they didn't obey, but Matt was heartbroken by the fact that his two first Ice pokemon didn't obey him.

He trained them up a little more, defeated the gym trainers and decided to see how he fared against Falkner. With his Swinub newly learned Powder Snow.

Pidgey and Pidgeotto were no problem for my higher leveled Ice pokemon that decided to sunbath once in a while, in the middle of a battle. All that aside, Matt obtained the badge and sighed.
"Whew...it's tough battling with a pokmon who won't listen..." Matt said.
"I hear you," Falkner commented. "Why do you think my strongest pokmon is only level 9? These were my father's Flying-types...the higher-level ones won't listen to me, either. Outsiders, traded pokmon, are like that."
"What can I do?"
"Actually, you hold the answer in your hand," Falkner said, indicating the Zephyr Badge he had just given Matt a minute ago. "Earn enough Badges and even outsiders will obey you. Two ought to do it for your Swinub and Seel, so I'd recommend you head south to Azalea Town."
"Thanks!" Matt replied.

After this enlightend discussion, Matt quickly went south to Azalea, defeating all the trainers, but not battling any wild pokemon, since he just wanted to get to Azelea fast. The pokemon were both l.13 before he entered Union Cave.

When Matt entered Union Cave, he heard stories from a ,freshly beaten, Hiker who talked about a hidden cave inside this one, where a very strong pokemon hides himself. Other people believe it is an Ice/Water pokemon seeing that it always carries awfull lot of mist around it's body when swimming. Matt became intruged, but then realised that he couldn't transport over water. He gave up his plans to catch the pokemon for the time being and quickly made his way out the Union Cave, defeating all trainers and picking up a TM.

Matt was shocked by the sight of daylight as he entered the sweet grass and flowers of Azalea Town. While he entered the pokemon center, he remembered the strange guy standing before the Slowpoke well. He heard some rumours about good balls, unlike the custom ones, made by an elder person named Kurt.

Matt left the pokemoncenter and knocked on Kurts house, his granddaughter opened the door and told Matt that Kurt was in the Slowpoke well. He quickly made his way back into the Slowpoke well and found Kurt on the floor. Kurt told Matt all about the evil organisation of Team Rocket and asked a request. Matt accepted and decided to clear out the Rockets.

It were some heavy battles for Matt and his disobedient pokemon who decided to sit one out once in a while. Matt got so frustrated, but thought of the upcoming gym battle, that would allow him to gain full control of his pokemon. Then Matt destroyed the last Rocket with his koffing, Swinub's Earthquake made a quick KO of that Koffing.

Matt got upstairs and visited Kurts house to tell him that the job was done. Kurt was overexcited and handed Matt one of his special balls: a Lureball. Matt thanked the guy, and went on to the gym, with a quick healing stop at the pokemoncenter.

He entered the gym and defeated all the Gymtrainers, leveling his Swinub up to l.16 and his Seel to l.17. Seel learned Aurora Beam which was powerfull.

Tune in next time, to see the fantastic battle between Bugsy and the disobedient Ice pokemon...

Pokemon:

Seel@Leftovers [M] l.17: Aurorabeam_Headbutt_Growl_Rest
Swinub@------- [M] l.16: Earthquake_Powdersnow_Tackle_-----

************

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

We left our Monotype Hero at the Bugsy battle, which was a real pain in the ass for Matt and also very important for his future carreer as a MonoIceType trainer. He had to try 7 times before beating the fury cutter Scyther. Metapods and Kakuna were no trouble except the fact that Matt's pokemon did get poisoned alot. Then Scyther came over and swept the disobediant pokemon over and over again until my Seel learned Aurorabeam and got a lucky shot, since he decided not to take another rest. Well that was it, Matt finaly got the badge and the respect of his pokemon. They decided to listen to Matt.

After this very hard, but exciting battle, Matt decided to go to Goldenrod. So he slashed and cut his way through Ilex Forest with the Cut HM he received by finding Scott's Farfetch'ed. He defeated a Bug Catcher that was no problem with obediant pokemon. Only then did he realised that he had some powerfull pokemon.

After reaching Goldenrod he decided to visit the daycare, where he received an Odd Egg. He knew that Smoochum came out of these Eggs, it evolved into Jynx a very fast and powerfull Ice pokemon. So he decided to breed it out, using a bycicle which he obtained on one of his walks through the city. So Matt drived up and off Goldenrod...

After hours of driving and sightseeing, the egg hatched and to his dissapointment, it was an Elekid. Matt stored it and decided to train a bit more before challeging the gym.

Tune in next time for the Goldenrod city battle and the training sessions...

Pokemon:

Swinub@-------[M] l.22: Earthquake_Powdersnow_Tackle_Endure
Seel@Leftovers[M] l.20: Aurorabeam_Headbutt_Rest_Growl

*************

Meh, training disobedient pokemon for the first two gyms is a challenge enough, considering that they are both very weak.

Update:

I'm tired of the story telling mode so I'll just write what happened.

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

Well, I defeated all the trainers above Goldenrod, National Park and on route 35. I then returned to clear out the whole gym except Withney, which made my pokemon's level rise to 25 each.

Whitney was easy as hell. I used my Seel to Aurorabeam the Clefairy and I only received a Double Slap and an Octazooka which were quickly healed by Leftovers. Then I remained using Aurorabeam against Miltank who had little HP left when Seel died; Swinub used EQ and finished the job.

Then I sprinkled Sudowoodo and caught him; and a Snubble on the way.

I delivered the mail and received TM50, plus a HP UP. Got rocksmash and saved the game.

A little update I know, but I haven't had time yet.

Pokemon:

Swinub@Quick Claw[M] l.25: Earthquake_Powdersnow_Tackle_Endure
Seel@Leftovers[M] l.26: Aurorabeam_Headbutt_Rest_Growl

***************

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

I'm in a hurry so I'll post some fast stuff. I got to ecruatak defeating all the trainers. Then I healed my pokemon and defeated the Kimono Sisters and cleared out the burend tower. I defeated the gym + Morty and Swinub reached l.33 evolving into a Piloswine. YAY. Seel is only l.27, so I'll have to train up.

Pokemon:

Piloswine@Quick Claw[M] l.33: Earthquake_Powdersnow_Take Down_Endure
Seel@Leftovers[M] l.27: Aurorabeam_Headbutt_Rest_Growl

*************

Progress:

So I defeated Morty and made Swinub evolve last time, well I got on carrying out my tasks in training them both to l.33, but Seel didn't evolve. I got to Olivine City and cleared out the lighthouse with a request from Jasmine and another reason for me to cross the see. I defeated every trainer in the see and at l.34 seel evolved! I have a Dewgong and he looks so sweet from the back. I shored to Cainwood and saved.

I'm going to get a Lapras friday and update again.

Pokemon:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.36: Earthquake_Powder Snow_Fury Attack_Endure
Dewgong@Leftovers[M] l.35: Aurorabeam_Take down_Surf_Rest

That's it for now, more to come.

************

I cleared out the gym and proceeded to Chuck. My sweet Dewgong took out Primeape with 2 surfs, it reached l.38. I withdrawed Dewgong and took Piloswine to finish Poliwrath with 2 EQs. Fine. Good work.

I obtained HM02, surfed back, caught a Pidgey and flyed over to Union Cave. I went inside and defeated every trainer, some excercise for Piloswine. I caught Lapras, flew to Ecruetack and saved.

Training Lapras is going to be easy. The first Rocket Base will come in handy. I'll update later.

Pokemon:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.37: Earthquake_Powder Snow_Fury Attack_Strenght
Dewgong@Leftovers[M] l.38: Aurorabeam_Take down_Surf_Rest
Lapras@------------[F] l.20: Sing_Surf_Mist_Body Slam

*************

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

I started my way up to Lake of Rage and trained Lapras non stop. I cleared out the rocket base, bringing my Lapras to l.32. I then flew back to Goldenrod to pick up a Leaf stone from Gina and defeated the 'Water Trio Sisters'.

I entered the gym and defeated every gym trainer. I saved before Pryce.

Current pokemon status:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.37: Earthquake_Powder Snow_Fury Attack_Strenght
Dewgong@----------[M] l.38: Aurorabeam_Take down_Surf_Rest
Lapras@Leftovers[F] l.33: Sing_Surf_Confuse Ray_Body Slam

************

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

Well, I defeated Pryce with ease. I used Body slam and Sing to defeated Seel and Dewgong and surfed Piloswine in an OHKO.

I returned to Olivine and swept Jasmine. Piloswine had a field day, EQ'ing the two magnemites to hell. I surfed Steelix down in an OHKO aswell. Oh the joy.

I returned to Maghony and swept everything until I came out the Icepath. I saved in the Pokemoncenter.

Next goal: Catch a Jynx and train her up defeating the Radio Tower. More to come.

Current pokemon status:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.38: Earthquake_Powder Snow_Fury Attack_Strenght
Dewgong@Nevermeltice[M] l.38: Aurorabeam_Take down_Surf_Rest
Lapras@Leftovers[F] l.38: Icebeam_Surf_Confuse Ray_Body Slam

*************

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

I trained up Sneasel during the Radio Tower process. I defeated Rocket boss and obtained Clear Bell. I finalized 'Swine's moveset and went searching for Jynx again. No luck. I'm now training them all to l.40 below Blackthorn. Small update, but alot of things happend.

Current pokemon status:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.40: Earthquake_Blizzard_Rest_Sleeptalk
Dewgong@Nevermeltice[M] l.40: Aurorabeam_Take down_Surf_Rest
Lapras@Amulet Coin[F] l.39: Icebeam_Surf_Confuse Ray_Body Slam
Sneasel@Leftovers[M] l.38: Shadowball_Irontail_Headbutt_Screech

*********

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

So, I caught a Jynx, but didn't train her. I had 4 pokemon so that was enough. I cleared out victory road and raised them all to l.42. When I healed my pokemon at the League Pokemon Center I realised that Jynx was really powerfull and I could use Psychic and a sleep move. I decided to train Jynx. I thought her Icepunch and start training on Victory road and in the cave. She reached l.42 atlast and I was going to enter the league.

My League Team:

Jynx@Nevermeltice [F] l.42: Icepunch_Lovely Kiss_Substitute_Mean Look
Piloswine@Quick Claw[M] l.42: Earthquake_Blizzard_Rest_Sleeptalk
Lapras@Amulet Coin[F] l.42: Surf_Icebeam_Body Slam_Confuse Ray
Dewgong@Leftovers[F] l.42: Aurorabeam_Surf_Rest_Take Down
Sneasel@Przcureberry[M] l.42: Shadowball_Irontail_Headbutt_Screech

I checked my team one last time, healed them, purchased some items and got going.

Will:

I put out Sneasel and started to sweep him with Shadowball. I Screeched Slowbro and had to use 2 shadowballs. Exeggutor was to strong for Sneasel and his Egg Bomb raped me. Jynx finished Xatu(l.42) and Exeggutor for me.

Koga:

Sneasel's second job. He swept until Jynx had to come and destroy Forretress. Sneasel and Jynx combined finished Koga.

Bruno:

Sneasel was going for the third match in a row. He defeated the three Hitmons, but perished at the fatal blow of a Cross Chop. Dewgong was OHKO'ed by Machamp and so was Lapras, Piloswine EQ'ed the two remaining pokemon flat.

Karen:

Sneasel was l.44 and I decided to let him go until 45. He went out and Screeched Umbreon. Two Irontails destoryed the only pure dark pokemon in GSC. Jynx kissed Houndoom and Piloswine finished him. The rest fainted at the hands of Jynx.

Lance:

Jynx killed Gyarados with one Icepunch. Charizard came up and battled my Dewgong. Dewgong used one Surf, but got KO'ed by Flamethrower. Worthless pokemon. Lapras saved the day, for now. She got Ko'ed by Aero's Rock Slide. Piloswine returned the favor and swept Aero, and the Dragonite's.

So that was it, I defeated the League.

I decided to drop Dewgong. My main reason to keep her were Safeguard and Surf. I know that Lapras can learn both moves, but Lapras will have Boltbeam so no Surf. I will implent Safeguard in his moveset now. Since I had a lack of Surf now I decided to train Cloyster. He'll have Spikes and Explosion, accompagnied with Surf and Icebeam/Filler.

My next goal was to capture Suicune, and I did. I was ready for Kanto.

I arrived in Kanto and defeated Sabrina with Sneasel. I did some other random training defeated several route's around the city's of Kanto and saved before the Power Plant. I'm going to restore the Magnet train.

Next goals: Get the magnet train running again and capture a Shellder.

Current pokemon status:

Piloswine@Quick Claw [M] l.47: Blizzard_Earthquake_Rest_Sleeptalk
Lapras@Leftovers[F] l.47: Icebeam_Surf_Confuse Ray_Body Slam
Jynx@Amulet Coin[F] l.46: Icepunch_Substitute_Lovely Kiss_Meanlook
Sneasel@Przcureberry[M] l.46: Shadowball_Irontail_Return_Screech

Phew, well that was a lot.

************

The 'Chan moveset is great, and your moveset was honestly the worst suggestion ever. Sp.atk's on a Hitmonchan?! Wtf.

Also: Updateness:

Character: Matt
Mono Type: Ice
Reason for Type: I like 'em cool.
Version: Crystal
Progress:

Well I just swept to Kanto training all of my pokemon. 'twas a piece of cake. I defeated Gary and was going to try on Red for a change. I gave my pokemon Quick Claw and Focusband for sheer luck, although it didn't even work once...Anyway: My Red Report:

Pikachu

He QA'ed me. One EQ from Pilo killed him.

Charizard

THE pain in the butt. I brought out my Lapras and Hydro Pumped him in the face. He had 2/5 HP left, so another Surf make short work of that.

Espeon

2 Shadowballs from my Sneasel were enough to kill this otherwise mighty beast.

Venusaur

He charged solar power, I Ice Beamed him with Lapras, I switched to Sneasel, sneasel fainted of Solarbeam. He charged solar power, I beamed him again. He fainted.

Snorlax

My hell. I brought up Jynx to kiss him and start Psychic him. He fainted Jynx with little HP left, a return from Sneasel killed Snorlax. He did not rest, I'm still not over the shock.

Blastoise

I brought out Lapras to keep taking the surfs while I revived all my pokemon. I gave a Max Potion to Lapras and started going for a frozen solid. It did not happen, but he lost a lot of HP. Lapras fainted. Sneasel killed him.

I defeated the Monotype Challenge Ice in 21.36.

Final Pokemon Status:

Piloswine@Quick Claw
Male // Level 52
*Blizzard
*Earthquake
*Rest
*Sleeptalk

This was my worst, but yet my favorite. His moveset is finalized.

Lapras@Leftovers
Female // Level 57
*Icebeam
*Surf
*Safeguard
*Hydropump

I taught him Hydropump only with the purpose of destroying Red's Charizard. My final moveset would have been Thunderbolt > Surf and Rest > Hydropump.

Jynx@Leftovers
Female // Level 55
*Icepunch
*Substitute
*Lovely Kiss
*Psychic

One of my favorites. Icebeam > Icepunch.

Sneasel@Focus Band
Male // Level 56
*Shadowball
*Irontail
*Return
*Screech

My absolute favorite. I trained him for the first time now. Something over Irontail, probably Rest. Or Dynamicpunch.

**************

Well so far for my Ice MTC.

YAY for the Monotype Challenge!

I'm busy on a Grass MTC:

Character: Maggie
Type: Grass
Reason: I don't know, I just like every Grass pokemon there is.
Version: Crystal.

Progress:

I took Chikorita as my starter, did the errand, defeated rival, went training on route 32 and arrived in Violet. I then healed my pokemon and defeated Sprout Tower. I saved before the gym.

Swept Falkner with Reflect and Poisonpower. Trained to Union Cave and picked up Swift for Hoppip, then returned to the Pokemoncenter and saved since it was night and Hoppip doesn't appear then.

In the morning I caught a Hoppip and found out that Hoppip couldn't learn Swift. I trained him piddgybacking until he learned Tackle. In training now. Until hopping learns either Sleeppowder or Leech seed.

Pokemon:

Bayleef@Miracle Seed [M] [l.20]
*Mudslap
*Poisonpowder
*Razorleaf
*Reflect

Hoppip@----- [M] [l.14]
*Tackle
*Poisonpowder
*Synthesis
*Tailwhip

Trained my pokemon some more clearing out all routes available and won the bugcatchingcontest with a l.14 Scyther! I received the Sun stone and encountered a Sunkern, so I though why the hell not, and caught it. It was l.14. I checked GHPD Pokedex and found out that Sunflora learns Razor leaf at l.10. Breeding it was. I now have a l.5 Sunflora and ready to train. After training it, I'll defeat Whitney.

Progress:

Change of plans. Decided to train Sunflora at the Rocket Maghony base and defeated Whitney with my current pokemon first. I caught a new team member for help with Physical attacking and a 100% accurate Sleepmove: Paras and started to train it, meanwhile linking her over to Blue for Swordsdance and Body Slam. Whitney was easy. Leech seed+Sleeppowder saved the day again. Leech seed is the best move in the game IMO.

Went up to Sudowoodo and defeated it. Training Paras some more. Defeated Kimonogirls and rival at Burnt tower. Saw suicune and trained some more. Defeated Morty with Dig from Paras and Sleeppowder from Skiploom.

Went up to Olivine city, defeating every trainer between Ecruteak and Olivine. Paras and Skiploom evolved! YAY! Cleared out Lighthouse and saved before Ocean.

Ive got a lot of time on my hand since school finished, so Ill do a mono team once I finish my TM/duplicate run through blue.

Ill be using a mono electruc team (but I will be cheating so I can get pikachu reasonably early in the game. You cant have an electric team without pikachu )

Doing a new one:

Character: Maggie
Type: Normal
Reason: Cuz y wanna defeet Amaruu!1!1 (seriously I want to do Normal aswell and get through it with different pokemon)
Progress:

Well I started out like all other people do. I always choose Totodile because Scratch is stronger then Tackle. I went to Mr.Pokemon and yadayadayada.

Now, when I finally was able to catch pokemon myself I went up on route 46, trying to catch a Teddiursa. After looking for 10 minutes I realised that they were found in Dark Cave in the morning on Crystal. 'twas morning so I was lucky I skipped every trainer that I could and caught myself a Teddiursa. I tell you these bitches are hard to find and when you do find one they flee. Darn them.

I caught one and trained it up through weak pokemon like Pidgey and Sentret. After some training to l.8 I decided to start and fight trainers, so I did. Then I proceeded through all the routes, defeating Sprout Tower and the gym trainers to finally come to Falkner

Falkner

It was an easy battle. I just Scratched him to death. Pidgey fell after two scratches and Pidgeotto after 4. End of game. Got Badge and TM, thought him Mud Slap and proceeded to Azalea.

***

I defeated all trainers on the routes, grabbing the Mystery Egg to finall arrive in Azalea, picking up a phone number on the way. After defeating Team Rocket in the well, I saved right in front of the gym.

Pokemon:

Wrath | Teddiursa [M]
Level 20
*Scratch
*Mud Slap
*Fury Swipes
*Leer
>> He's doing fine and has lots of attack power. Currently not teaching Swift because he'll have headbutt the next time I put on my GB.

Just to ask as well. Is there any leniency on certain events.
Im doing Ground and Currently have Onix and Geodude but my next challenge is the sprout tower. There is no way i can get through that. Too many Vinewhips, hell id have to be League Champion, and then come back before id stand a chance against that many Bellsprout.

And also, when you say 1 set of TMs. Do you mean only the TMs you get in the game? Ie no trading from another game for a Second Earthquake or anything like that?

I did it with my ground MTC a while ago. Just trade over a ground pogey 'round the same level and teach it flamethrower or something. Throughout my MLG GSC MTC experience, I believe that is allowed.

Right well it looks like my Copy of Silver is screwed up. The last few hours ive spent training Wooper, Geodude and Onix have been lost since even though i saved my game when i switched it back on after making sure i had a space Metal Coat for Onix the whole thing had been wiped.
Therefore i wont be competing in this challenge.

I am very busy and have only had time to pick Cyndaquil and rush through the first 15 minutes and sneak for a Mareep. Ill do a realy summary once i really get started.

Let's run through the Dark-types in GSC, shall we?

Umbreon: You need to have gotten three badges and cleared away Sudowoodo before you can get Eevee. Then you'd have to raise its happiness.
Sneasel: Since you have Crystal, you can get this in the Ice Path, which you need to have finished both the Lighthouse and Lake of Rage subplots to enter.
Murkrow: Only available in Kanto.
Houndour/Houndoom: Only available in Kanto.
Tyranitar: Larvitar is only available in Mt. Silver.

A Dark-type theme team can be fun (I speak from experience,) but pretty much requires Game Shark to get a team.

You don't have to choose a type that hasn't been done yet. I didn't. But hey it's your choice, just pointing out

As my GHPF friends know, I spend a great deal of time and effort leveling up, so here comes yet another SUPER SA MTC!!!!

Updateness.

Name: Extension Chord
Type: Electric
Reason: They can be quite shocking in battle and are often referred to as "Livewires." The perfect source of power for my AMP.
Version: Silver
Progress:

I began with Cyndaquil, but quickly dumped him in the box and caught myself a Mareep. I leveled it up a bit until it evolved and headed over to the Sprout Tower, once it had learned T~Wave. I then used it to paralyze the Bellsprout and chip away with tackle. It took a while, but I gained a ton of EXP for a relaxing battle with Hoot-Hoot.

Afterwards, I proceeded to rape Falkner. Then, I battled him.

It was an easy job for Flaafy. Then, I traded over a Breeded Elekid from Crystal, seeing as I wouldnt see one for a while, and used it to demolish its way down to union cave. It was also able to plow through the rock and ground pogeys with ice punch and I got to Azalea town!

I took care of team rocket easily and whipped through the Bugs with some quality fire and ice punching, saving the Scyther for Flaffy and a good old thundershock.

And finally, I annihalated my rivals Zubat and Croconaw with some nice electric moves, while I gave Gastly a few ice punches, free of charge! I saved my game in the Ilex Forest...

TO BE CONTINUED.....

Flaafy L: 25

Thunder Wave
Thundershock
Tackle
Rain Dance

Elekid L: 29

Fire Punch
Ice Punch
Thunderpunch
Swift

Hmm...I might redo my old Steel game. I can't continue my original because, a while back, I needed to refer to something that happens in the Mahogany hideout and I wasn't there yet in my game, so I went and caught a Girafarig for an easy Fog Badge and the ability to Surf (you have to battle the Red Gyarados in the middle of the lake to be able to enter the Hideout.)
Only problem is, I don't currently have any other games from the GSC era to trade over the Metal Coat for an early Steelix...let's see, without that my first Steel-type would be either Magnemite, or Forretress if I get a Pineco to level 31 before Route 38...then, I'd have to retrieve THIEF from the Mahogany base and try to steal from an awful lot of Magnemite to get Scizor and Steelix...the upside is no early-game Outsider.
Yeah, what the heck. Expect to hear from me again shortly. I don't think I'll bother with the storytelling mode this time.

Yeah, that's fine. Quick updates like mine or MH are just as fine. Glad you can join this =D

Update:

Doing a new one:

Character: Maggie
Type: Normal
Reason: Cuz y wanna defeet Amaruu!1!1 (seriously I want to do Normal aswell and get through it with different pokemon)
Progress:

As we left myself back at the gym, I quicly dissposed of the puny gym-trainers, to finally arrive at bug-man himself.

Bugsy

Another easy battle. With my l.22 Teddiursa I just Fury Swiped them all to death and I had half of my HP left. Puny bug-man.

I continued to Goldenrod, training heavily, seeing that Teddiursa needs major points to raise one level. Obtained TM02 and taught headbutt to Wrath. I finally arrived, caught some phonenumbers, did some shopping and defeated all that could've been defeated including National Park and the trainers on Sudowoodo's route. I turned back to Goldenrod and healed, ready for the gym battle.

I defeated the gym trainers with easy until I finally arrived:

Whitney

She was easy aswell, the AI in the games are really crap. I just used one headbutt to get rid of Clefairy and I proceeded to Miltank. 3x Mudslap to make unarm her Rollout. Then two headbutts and she was a goner. Good game.

Arrived in Ecruteak and defeated rival in Burnt tower. Saved before the legendary dogs.

Pokemon:

Wrath | Ursaring [M]
Level 30
*Headbutt
*Mud Slap
*Rest
*Faint attack
>> Major attack and HP, will become STalker with Return and Shadowball/EQ/Curse.

[I already caught a Snubbull incase I want to train one, but Granbull is to much the same as Ursaring so probably not. I'm hatching my odd now, if I get extremely lucky I can have an Igglybuff or Cleffa, rooting for a Cleffa, otherwise I'll just box my egg. Now I'm in Ecruteak and I'm going to hunt for a new pokemon, surprise surprise!]

can't you just save right before the egg hatches, and then keep hatching it until you get what you want?

thats what i did until i got smoochum.

also, what version do you have that you were able to get teddiursa so early? and where did you get him?

Yes, I know, but I was anxious to proceed and didn't want to wait. I'm a lazy lazy man.

Crystal version, Teddiursa appears in the morning in Dark cave.

Clefable. Pwns. The Universe.

***

Updateness.

Name: Extension Chord
Type: Electric
Reason: They can be quite shocking in battle and are often referred to as "Livewires." The perfect source of power for my AMP.
Version: Silver
Progress:

Today, i whipped through the Ilex forest and that stupid Farfetch'd, and proceeded to evolve my Elekid against Picknicker Gina and her useless Bulbasaur. I then headed up to the Goldenrod gym for some fun, sweeping through with Flaffy and in turn evolving it, and quickly dispatching the Hard-hitting Miltank and annoying Cleafairy. I then got myself an Eevee and traded myself a thunderstone.

I then took care of the rest of the 'pressing matters' in the city and took care of Sudowoodo. Finally, Excruteak! I immediately headed west, acquiring a Magnemite and finished by trouncing my rival at the Burnt tower and sending the Three Dogs Free.

It has been a big day for me.

TO BE CONTINUED.....

Ice Punch
Thunderpunch

Name: Steve
Type: Steel

I started with Cyndaquil like last time. As I type this, I am storming Sprout Tower. My Cyndaquil will be a Quilava by the time I'm done in this tower.

Team: Quilava "FIRE" L14
Ember, Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen

I know the nickname "Fire" sounds lame by itself, but I also intend to catch a Poliwag/whirl and name it Rain. Thus, my HMers for this game shall be Fire and Rain. Go on, tell me that's not cool-sounding. I've got James Taylor over here waiting to administer a beatdown.

Speaking of HMers, I need to beg a rules clarification. Non-type HMers are allowed on the condition that they never battle, at least not once you have a battler of your chosen type...but I'll be using Thief on wild Magnemite to get the Metal Coats I need. Does a Steel-type have to do the thieving? In my GSC games I typically put Thief on an HMer and let them do the dirty work of mugging wild pokémon.
