Pudge is exhausted and decides to sit down and relax. The newly appeared Metang, named Grodus, doesn’t feel like relaxing and charges forwards to meet his foe. Covering his fist with pure fighting energy, the metang slams it into the tiny kitten and Pudge flies backwards.

Trying to finish this, Grodus does the same attack again, with the same effect. Pudge is really battered. With his last energy, Pudge fights through the confusion and launches a great thunder attack. Pudge gets hit by a Psychic attack and faints, but the Thunder that came from the clouds struck Grodus aswell. Hard. R.I.P.

I opened this battle with Fuji, who went down hard and well. How sad; he was my best option for this round. Still, if the best is gone, find the second-best.

OK, OK, never mind. Stay calm, Grodus - we have the type advantage, and stats don't matter here, so we still have an edge.

Start off with Iron Defense, and then shake her up with an Earthquake. Finish with a Metal Claw.

Cici, begin by demonstrating the art of a Rock Smash on that metal what-have-you. Withdraw into your shell and ride out the Earthquake (which shouldn't be too much of a problem for a Bug/Rock), and then counter the Metal Claw by touching off your own Earthquake.

MoP throws out a new pokeball and a small, funny looking pokemon appears on the scene. It calls out her name and gets ready for combat. Blademaster just laughs at this small thing, but is a little worried why MoP chose her as last pokemon.

Cici rushes forwards after her first command was given, raises her fist and slams into Grodus, Grodus gets smacked backwards, but managed to set up an Iron Defense around his body, just before the fist smashed him. Damage was kept to a minimum.

Going for a revenge, Grodus hovers up and smashes his body down into the ground. A giant earthshock takes place, but Cici just rolls herself in her protective shield and sits out the ride. After the shock was gone, she reappears, smiles and jumps up, smashing down in the ground, creating her own earthquake. Grodus was caught off guard and falls backwards, heavily hurt. He gets back up after mere seconds and slashes Cici hard with a STABbed Metal Claw. Cici grunts.

I kinda confused how a Withdrawn Shuckle can just 'ride out' an Earthquake whereas an Iron Defended Metang that's hovering off the ground can be 'heavily hurt,' but whatever - your call, I guess.

OK, Sir Grodus, the first rule of combat is 'Know thy enemy.'

And know this - that doofy-looking paperweight is his secret weapon. As much as I hate to rely solely on type advantage, we're gonna have to if we wanna win.

Start off with Meteor Mash, and then use another Metal Claw. Finish with a Fire Punch to her head.

Because grodus just puts up a shiny defensive armor to protect him a while. Cici has a born in protective system. As stats doesn't matter, he'll have to get it from his physical being. He can just sit in his shell, waiting for the EQ to be over. Grodus can't, but he doesn't get as much damage as a normal EQ, because of his Iron Defense. Does that answer your question?

Cici, we don't have a lot we can use against the UFO boy, so we'll have to improvise.

Begin by Protecting yourself from the Meteor Mash. Then, spit a Secret Power in his eye when he comes in for the Metal Claw, and touch off another Earthquake when he tries a Fire Punch.

It's a big ball of rock with tentacles, do you really think flipping her on her back will do anything?

That said, Cici, relax for the first round, and then punish the Metang for its insolence with two Earthquakes. If it really DOES matter which end is up, flip yourself upright on the second turn. Should be an easy matter, what with tentacles and all.

Dark Sage actually asked the ref about how Rock/Ground attacks affect floating things in my battle with him. The explanation amounted to "The ground shaking is only part of it." (Which is why a Rock Tomb traps a Magneton.)

Floating pokemon like Magneton or Metang get hit by ground attacks, because they rely on the surfuce below to maintain balance. When the earth below gets heavily changed in a matter of seconds, they get hit badly. Some pokemon however, can raise up high (like Metang did, BUT WITH GIVEN COMMAND!) and dodge many attacks. At the cost of some energy that is.

Grodus starts off and uses a strong psychic wave to flip Cici over on her back. Cici smiles and sits down, relaxing. Then, she withdraws her head and arms and puts them in different holes, so that she’s standing in the right position again. She jumps up and crashes down into the earth again. The earthquake hits the relaxing Metang hard, he topples over. Then the exact same thing happens again, another earthquake and another heavily hurt, yet rested Metang.

Grodus, we can still win this. Cici's only options now are to relax or use a weak attack. So, relax during the first round no matter what, and then use Metal Claw twice.

If she uses Earthquake or Double-Edge, levitate out of reach instead; if she uses Bide, just relax the whole round.
