Well Aerbrodactyl so long shame I did not get a chance to battle you...

Darkest do you have mega evolutions sorted out yet? if not Sirius and I will be willing to be laboratory specimens and maybe Blade and Rawk Hawk will join us... I have the perfect arena in mind, the ASB version of the Carnac stones called the Stonepillar Ruins.

Perhapses have it so that I'm the ASB version of Colress and I told you and Blade to the site to est out a theory and you could explain that I got so cough up in my research that you two had to come and find me were I then revel not only have I been trying to unravel the mysteries of the mega evolutions and the newly discovered Fairy types,

but yeah I'm also planning on doing a legend hunt for a Kyurem in order to power the Plasma Cannons of my ship thus paving the way for Tame Plasma to invade the Safari Zone and bring about a new ice age within it! for the fist wave I think I'll unleashes the Genesect army to wreck havoc in the Safari Zone!

Joking aside it would be neat if the ASB was more like a true RPG and you could actually chose to be ether play the role of the hero or the role of a bad guy, at lest that would make things more fun around here...

I think it's a coincidence. There was definitely a noticeable lull (both in ASB and TPM at large) before the makeover. They come and go.

During its 13 years of existence, TPM Message Board has gone through various different layouts. For instance in the glorious days of UltimateBB we had no pictures at all. Or there was one user (I don't remember who) who had images in the sig, but that user said (s)he'd have to kill someone if (s)he told how to use them.

*Edit* - This has nothing to do with the new forum design or anything. I got a new job last month so I won't be trolling here all day...

That being said, I just feel the forum is dying. My matches are going dry and some don't even get off the ground. We've lost a lot of good people, many whom I called friends, and I feel like the old hag now (I AM coming up on... Well, old enough to be a mother... And damned close to teenaged kids too.)

Also, I find it really hard to grow my team when the only reliable way to get new Pokemon is via the safari zone, which takes several months to finish a journey, and you have to find what you're looking for (not having a go at DL (who is reffing me ATM)). I think the changes made to the safari zone were good, but I feel it's slowing down growth for some of us, in that our teams aren't growing as much as they used to. I've been wanting to grow for a while now (and my wish list is as long as my hair...)

While the new guys have been a breath of freshness around here (seriously Blade, you have to shower... It's stinking up the tower), they seem to stick to their batches, battle each other, and then leave, which I feel is inpart to the growth hurdle mentioned above.

I don't know anymore. It's not as fun as it used to be. I won't make any major decisions (Major decision!(how I met your mother joke...)) until this has had some more thought. If any of you, old or new, want to discuss with me, I'll still be around for a while... And yes, if I do leave, 80% of my team would be gifted away. Possibly even my legends...

It would make me feel a little sad to see you go Ayeun, as there is a TPMer I know that I wish you could meet (even though I have doubts she is going to return to TPM)...but besides that, I definitely have to agree with you on what you said about ASB teams growing more slowly these days...to be honest I really miss being able to catch Pokemon in the Approval Tower; am I the only one here who misses this old staple?

We're definitely in a rut right now and not for the first time. I think the community is still easily salvageable, but we need to take stock and figure out what we can do to get back on track. I think part of the problem comes down to the fact that our mods aren't putting in as much time as they used to. To be fair, real life is time-consuming and Darkly has been without Internet recently, but I think they're also just not as interested in ASB as they used to be. Unfortunately, without a strong modding team the community just starts to wither. The Reffing Tower hasn't been approved in months. People just take stuff like that as a sign that the community isn't especially strong, so they find their kicks elsewhere.

And I agree something needs to be done about the Safari Zone. I tried to start this conversation a few months ago, iirc, and the general conclusion was that the Speed Zone solves the problem of dragging quests. The thing is, it actually doesn't. Even if the Speed Zone would let someone catch five Pokemon in fifty rounds, the average ref puts up a round once every... one to two weeks? Sometimes it takes longer. So at the rate of one to two rounds per week, the average quester is in the Zone one to two years for fifty rounds/five Pokemon. So really, the Speed Zone isn't a solution and I think if we're going to move forward the old system of freely buying Pokemon for points needs to be reinstated. That's my two cents. People should be able to have control over their teams (more control that what Trees and Eggs provide) and, even though the previous system made team-building very cheap and fast, it's a better alternative to what we have going on right now. This would lower the demand for the Safari Zone and give refs the freedom to focus on Legendary quests. (And we should institute some kind of official time limit on those, as no one should be questing for a Legend for more than a year, which several people currently are.)

And reffing is as much a problem now as it's always been, so there's not much that can be done about that unless more people are willing to lend a hand with reffing duties. Otherwise, we just kind of have to deal with reffing lulls.

You know, I'm beginning to agree with you (it makes me slightly curious to wonder what DarkestLight, MLG, and/or Grey think about this)...it's been such a long time since ASB has had four moderators...methinks the last time we had four moderators here was when we still had the old ASB.

I mean, I can't really complain about team growth, as mine just exploded into a huge assembly of various types and Pokémon I love, mainly because of the tree, it is true that it takes some time if no tree is there at all. But one thing that bothers me, is the tower-catching method. While it is awesome that you can get your Pokémon there easily, it would take away everything the safari zone is there for (except legendaries and stuff). I mean, where's the point in having a 1 month quest for a Pokémon you could easily "buy" at the approval tower? I know there are people that enjoy the stories the referees come up with, me included, but I think the safari zone wouldn't be as popular as it is right now. I mean there are several people that enjoy the safari zone more than anything. Wouldn't that lead to a zone full of... 6 people that like it?
Though I agree there should be change, it would be so easy to get the Pokémon you want, if the trading tower would receive some love. I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem, but I'm not seeing half of the towers that exist, and I can't acess them without a direct link in another topic. (for example the rules, where some are listed)
My point is, that with a more active trading tower, combined with the cheap eggs, getting the Pokémon you want could be so much easier. Like, buy a bunch, keep the ones you want, and maybe you get others you want by trading the ones you don't want.

Regarding the Mod thing, I agree. No offense to anyone here, you did an awesome job, but now, approval takes ages, as mods are rarely checking, I think in the reffing tower are still 2 reffings waiting to get judged and stuff like that.
I would love to have a fourth Mod for the ASB Part here, or at least a temporary replacement for Grey, while he's getting his things together. (I hope I didn't say anything wrong there, excuse me in advance!)

Anyway, would love to see some other thoughts as well.

If the SZ were only for Legends and the occasional person who wants to catch regular Pokemon RP-style (and that's mostly how it used to be), then that would decrease the amount of quests on the go, allowing SZ refs to update their zones at a faster pace. That's why I think going back to Approval Tower purchasing would be more sustainable. The current system requires a certain level of manpower we just don't have.

Almost 24 hours later...

I had not considered that part of my issue was the lack of mods being around, and I wasn't even aware that Greyfox was awol. I think maybe a 4th mod would be good... Maybe time to pull some of the old ones? I'm not sure enough as to whom is active and being a mod to comment beyond that (not going to point any fingers at mods, as I like the three of them...). AND if we were to elect a new mod, no matter which slot they take, I think all the 'oldies' (Charles, Blade, Olso... Even me if you want to consider me) should be a) considered, and b) maybe VOTED on by the group as a whole? I mean, if the new mod has to represent the group, shouldn't the group get to pick their Mod?

Moving on to other issues... I still haven't made a decision about MY future here, but I would love to hear some feedback from my original post from DL and Grey (and MLG if hes aboot...).

About Puma and Oslos' discussion about the Safari zone and the old school approval tower, one of the good, original features of the OLD safari zone was that you could catch Stage 2 and 3 pokemon in there, thus saving you 2 battles and 5 points (Back before we had stones and shiz). Wanted a Alakazam? Go to the zone and find one, RP for 20 turns, maybe take a week, BAM! Have a brand new Alazkazam! Want to get something you didn't know you wanted, head to the safari zone and make a friend... 90% of the time, in the old school zone, when we made a poké-friend, we would bag them at the end of the adventure. I know that I have 3... One of which I was GUILT TRIPPED (Thanks ChaosRedefined!) in to taking. But I still have it on my team.

I see, yeah. While I still don't like the idea of getting everything instantly, it seems like and probably is the better choice. I think I'd still go into the zone, just because I enjoyed my last adventure so much.

On the whole Mod-electing thing, I don't think we should instantly replace every mod around here :'D
A fourth and/or temporary replacement would mix things up enough, I think. Even more if someone extremely active and helpful like Oslo would take the spot. So, yeah. Oslo for president :'D

I mostly go into the SZ for the adventure itself. I honestly don't care much when it comes to how long the ref takes, so the Speed zone really isn't my thing.

Well, I think on the one hand, it would be overpowered, as presumably not every Pokémon will get these mega evolutions, on the other hand, as stats are not taken into account, it could be a fun addition. Though I don't think it makes much sense, if a Blaziken with Speed Boost Mega Evolves. That would change absolutely nothing at all then :'D

And finally, Which X/Y version are YOU getting, and with which starter?

I'll get Y for Yveltal, and trade all the cool Pokémon from X with someone else :'D
Starter will PROBABLY be Chespin, as I've always started with the grass starter in every generation for whatever reason. It's always between Water and Grass, but these last two times (B/W, X/Y) the water starter isn't really all that... uhm... interesting. Also, I'm tempted to pick the fire starter in this one, as he MIGHT NOT BE A FRICKING FIRE FIGHTING. (Please, let glow punch or whatever this move is called be a psychic type attack. pwease.)

I think one action, instead of one turn would be better... Loosing 3 moves just to change forms seems a bit steep.

Also, why don't you think they would be good here? no I'm not saying they wouldn't be good here I'm just hoping its a mechanic like shadow pokemon where the games won't revisit it unless its popular enough because otherwise it would discourage a lot of people from getting back into pokemon, if they make it at least seem like a one generation thing it will get a lot less hate initially and can be brought back easily as people will already be used to the idea.
