You continue searching Panbau Sanctuary for something Yveltal-related, which is a pretty big longshot, as you can't be sure Yveltal even has anything to do with this part of the Safari Zone. For the first part of your trek, you see nothing but bamboo and some fairly common Pokemon. Then, as the vegetation gets thicker, you start to encounter fewer and fewer Pokemon. You go several minutes without seeing any living creatures besides yourselves.

"Gosh, it sure has been a while since we saw another Pokemon!" Harumi observes.

You do your best to reach for Coral's Pokeball, but alas, Heatmor has quite a strong grip on your arms.



You and your party members are marched a good distance through Panbau. It takes several Heatmor to wrangle Seze. Eventually, you arrive at a massive fort, the outer perimiter of which is lined with tall pointed stakes. As you're escorted through the front entrance, you see that the inside of the fort is filled with mud houses and even more Heatmor. They don't look happy. Perhaps all that heat earlier in the day brought out their grouchy sides?

"Your kind has recklessly tread all over our sacred land for too long," Heatmor says. "We will make an example of you. Bilius, gather some bamboo and get a fire going. We're going to have ourselves a barbecue."

The Heatmor confiscate your possessions, including your Pokeballs, and take you and Pamela one way while taking Seze, Charizard and Harumi another way. Pamela at this point is bawling her eyes out as the two of you are lead to the very back of the fort where you see a large bamboo cage. You and Pamela are stuffed inside. The door is closed behind you and locked. Two Heatmor stand guard over you.



"Won't be long now," one of them says, licking his lips. They turn around and stand guard over you.

You glance over and see that this cage has a third occupant. You have a dozing Durant to keep you company.

"Several, actually," Pan grumbles. "Pokemon Contests are awkward and dumb. If it'll help me get over my residual Diancie-related guilt, though, I'll do my best."

You ask Delibird about the special prize.



"It's a mystery! I will say, however, that it will be a treat of mega proportions. Now, it's time to begin. Follow me," Delibird says. He takes you to the middle of the cave, where you see a large ring some twenty feet across blanketed with snow. A number of Pokemon and trainers are congregated and looking out at the audience. Delibird claps his flippers together to get the crowd's attention. "Good day, everyone! I, Flavius G. Delibird, am pleased to announce that the 3rd Annual Ruskie Tundra Pokemon Contest is about to begin! Our five teams have all registered, and it's time to announce who they are. First, we have Battle Girl Mei, who will be entering alongside her Machop and Timburr!"

"Third, we have Psychic Carlos, who will be entering alongside his Gothitelle and Reuniclus!"

Perseus gives the crowd a polite wave. Pan stares at her feet.

"Now, the goal of this Contest, as I'm sure you know, is to create a spectacular appeal for the crowd," Flavius says. "What goes into a successful appeal, you ask? Well, a successful appeal should be creative, interesting and visually appealing! It should also complement the Pokemon you've selected. With that said, let's begin! For the first round, each of the participating Pokemon will have this entire ring of snow to perform their appeal. That appeal should consist of three moves and will be performed by one of your two Pokemon. The theme for this first round is Winter Wonderland Fun. When all of the appeals are finished, you'll each receive a score out of ten, and the lowest scoring team will be chopped before we progress to the next round. Now, the last to register will be the first to perform. That means you're up, good sir!

You're up. You devise a plan for Perseus and communicate the instructions to him. He nods and steps into the ring of snow. Time to begin!

With a blue flash of light, Perseus vanishes. The crowd looks around for him but can't seem to... oh, there he is! He reappears high up near the ceiling of the cave and begins to fall. Using Fire Punch, Perseus ignites the blades that comprise his forearms and starts spinning with dancerly grace. The flames create orange blurs that capture the crowd's attention. As he strikes the ground, a cloud of snow rises up and swirls around him. And that's the appeal!

Perseus shuffles off to the side for the next team to make their appeal. At this point, your fate is in the judges' hands...

Kyogre seems quite self-assured at this point. He rockets off another Origin Pulse, which once again launches Rosalinda backwards through the water. She closes her eyes and puts her hands together as though praying. Realizing what's happening, Kyogre starts swimming like mad to Rosalinda to stop her attack, but it's too late. She begins to siphon off the blue leviathan's health. Letting out an irritated roar, Kyogre slams into Rosalinda with another Iron Head. However, Rosalinda responds by locking eyes with Kyogre and using her Hypnotic gaze to lull it into a deep slumber. When Kyogre is out, Rosalinda begins to devour its dreams, leaving only nightmares in their wake. Paralysis kiboshes Kyogre's hopes of landing a Sleep Talk retaliation. Kyogre does get a little health from the Aqua Ring, though.

Welp, that was a definite comeback. The question is, does Rosalinda have enough energy to sustain this lead?

When all the appeals have been performed, the judges put their heads together and consult. Finally, they hand Flavius a slip of paper. He clears his throat and begins to address everyone.



"We have the results of the first round of appeals!" he says. "Overall, it was a good showing. Some of you might have improved by focusing a little bit more on the theme of the round and by adding in a pinch more of originality to really make your appeal pop. Nonetheless, here are the scores! In first place we have Ace Trainer Marissa and Mega Charizard X, who scored an 8.0 out of 10! In second place we have a tie between Psychic Carlos and Reuniclus as well as Guy Whose Name I Don't Know and Gallade, who scored a 7.5 out of 10. In fourth place we have Fisherman Desmond and Palpitoad, who scored a 7.0 out of 10. Finally, we have Battle Girl Mei and Timburr, who scored a 6.0 out of 10. Mei, I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from the Contest."

Mei lets out a shocking array of curse words and leaps upon Delibird and starts trying to beat him up.



A number of other bystanders intervene and escort Mei and her Pokemon out of the cave. Flavius picks himself up.
