As poor Witbier returns to his Pokeball, GL figures it’s time to pull out the big guns. With a toss, out comes a green fishy that flops merrily upon the head of the Ivysaur balloon. As the round gets underway, Goku spews a nice toxic glob of something nasty Cliche’s way, but the fishy is ready. He splits into clones on the spot and the Gunk Shot merely passes through one of them harmlessly. Hah! Elliot, meanwhile, scores a direct hit with Water Pulse, soaking the Infernape nicely.
Cliche: <-4 EP; 2 clones>
Goku: <-9 HP; -10 EP>
Elliot: <-4 EP>
Just then, the balloon begins to lose altitude. Ack, so soon? The Ivysaur certainly didn’t last long! The three fighters look over at a Glalie balloon bobbing merrily on the breeze and abandon Ivysaur for the inflatable Ice-type. Successful transfer!

Mmkay, now that that’s out of the way… let’s continue! Goku again sets his sights on Cliche and leaps in for a Thunder Punch, which gobbles up another clone. The Lanturn responds by unleashing a mighty deluge of water at the Infernape. Struck in the gut, Goku is thrown backwards off the balloon by the impact of the hit! Oh no! Don’t worry, though, as my Swellow is ready and swoops in to collect Goku and deposit him back on the balloon safely. Phew. Before Goku can get too comfy, however, a Water Pulse from Elliot knocks him down onto his behind. If this were a cartoon, there would totally be balloons circling Goku’s head, because that Infernape is Confused as anything.

Okay, let’s see if we can get through a full round without a Pokemon death or a balloon change! The round gets underway as Goku momentarily triumphs over his Confusion and tries to assault Cliche, but only defeats the remaining clone. In response, Cliche summons a frigid Blizzard that bites away at Goku and Elliot with added ferocity. Damn you, pwnsome Glalie balloon! Finally, Elliot spews a big ol’ bomb of poisonous goo at Cliche that explodes upon contact.
Cliche: <-8 HP; -10 EP; 0 clones>
Goku: <-10 HP; -8 EP>
Elliot: <-15 HP; -8 EP>
Let’s try that again! Goku again attempts the same physical melee, this time directed at Elliot. Despite his Confusion, he pulls it off, leaving the Snubbull a little battered and bruised. Cliche flops over toward Goku and smacks the Infernape silly with his slick and water tail, while Elliot conjures up a ball of dark shifting energy and loosens it upon Elliot. The move collides, knocking the little thunder fishy backwards, but he perseveres.
Cliche: <-9 HP; -4 EP>

Elliot: <-7 HP; -9 EP>
You had to know your luck couldn’t hold out for much longer, eh, Goku? Instead of attacking either of his foes, Goku begins strangling himself with his tail. Hrm, looks painful. Jade and Jabin return to their Pokeballs, making Cliche the lone fishy on the field. With two bright bursts of light, the two new replacements hop aboard the Glalie balloon: one green munchkin in a skirt and one oversized cyan lizard ferny thing. Jade gets things off to an aggressive start as she marches over to Cliche and slices the fishy up with a potent Leaf Blade. (Sushi, anyone? Zing!) Cliche responds by commanding a powerful Blizzard that does some pretty hefty damage to both of the other fighters. All of a sudden, ice crystals form around Jabin, freezing the Kirlia solid. Poor guy.
Cliche: <-11 HP; -10 EP>
Jade: <-19 HP; -7 EP>
Jabin: <-15 HP; Frozen>
Maybe it’s the weight of the Kirliacicle, or maybe the balloon just sprung a leak, but regardless… the Glalie balloon begins losing altitude! No fear, though, as there’s a balloon in the shape of a cute little Pichu just a couple of feet over yonder. Cliche and Jade make the jump, but… oh shit, Jabin’s still frozen! Aware of what’s going on outside his little icy tomb, Jabin feels panic surge through his body and receives just enough adrenaline to smash free of his bounds! At the last second, he bounds over to the Pichu, snatching hold of the little rodent’s inflated tail to stabilize himself. Successful transfer!

Okay, unpause. Once again, Jade darts toward Cliche and unloads a whole bucket of pain in the form of a super-sharp Leaf Blade, while Cliche retaliates with a balloon-boosted Discharge. How lucky! Finally, Jabin unleashes a contrasting dual-beam of red and green light that dazzles Jade unpleasantly and gives the Sceptile one heck of a headache, but he holds tight.

As the next round begins, Jade hops over to Cliche and dices him up with those super-sharp leaves attached to her forearms. Irked, Cliche fries up the Jade with a crackling discharge of electricity, which does moderate damage when both the lizard’s Electric resistance and the balloon boost are taken into account. Finally, Jabin conjures up a magical display of shimmering, colourful leaves that dance and arc toward Cliche. All red up and covered in scratches, Cliche lets out a moan.
Cliche: <-19 HP; -4 EP>
Jade: <-7 HP; -6 EP>
Jabin: <-4 EP>
This time around, Jade turns her sights on Jabin and raises her arms in a dramatic X-formation before slicing the little green ballerina with Bug-type energy. Cliche, who enjoys not being the one ganged up upon for the moment, also targets Jabin with a mild tickle of electric current made stronger by the Pichu balloon beneath him. Finally, Jabin bring another Magical Leaf into existence and pesters Cliche with them once more.
Cliche: <-9 HP; -3 EP>

For the second time in a row, Jade looms over Jabin and deals some potent damage with a wicked-strong X-Scissor. Just as electricity begins to sparkle from Cliche’s antennae, a strange red glow surrounds his body. All of a sudden, he can’t… move… a muscle, and the electricity he was about to Discharge vanishes, too. Ugh. Damn Psychics.

The next round begins with Jade summoning a huge blitz of razor-sharp leaves. Cliche keeps an eye on his opponent’s move and times his Double Team perfectly so that the leafy swell only eats through but two clones, leaving him and the remaining Lanturn doppelganger safe and sound. Phew! Jabin finishes things off by jolting poor Jade with a brain-boggling beam of contrasting red and green light.
Cliche: <-4 EP; 1 clone>
Jade: <-12 HP; -10 EP; -2 SpA>
Jabin: <-6 EP>
Irked that her last move wasn’t so successful, Jade tries something with a little shorter-range. Fuelled by Bug-type energy, she rakes the jagged leaves attached to her forearms across Jabin. Judging by the look on the Kirlia’s face, he did not enjoy that. Cliche decides that teaming up against Jabin is a swell plan and toasts the little ballerina up nicely. Jabin exacts a little revenge with another sparkling volley of enchanted leaves that arc and dive through Cliche’s remaining clone before slicing Cliche.
Cliche: <-9 HP; -8 EP; 0 clones>
Jade: <-4 EP>
Jabin: <-21 HP; -4 EP>
Jade approaches Cliche and deals the fishy yet another Leaf Blade. At this point, poor Cliche is going to have some kind of monster tree phobia with all the deadly leaf action he’s been receiving. Nonetheless, the Lanturn holds strong for the moment and blasts Jade with a frigid beam of icy energy, causing the verdant reptile to stumble back toward Jabin. Jabin figures, hey, since she’s right here, why not have a little more fun? He hoists Jade up into the air with Psychic energy and shakes her up unpleasantly before tossing her off the balloon. Fortunately, my Swellow swoops in and snatches her up before returning him to the balloon.

As all three fighters begin circling the drain, it’s clear somebody is due to faint this round, right? Jade certainly thinks so, and does her best to see that the somebody in question is Jabin. He raises his arms in a dramatic X-formation and brings them slashing down against the little Kirlia, who crumples from the assault. Cliche summons an icy storm to harm both of his opponents, but at the last second, Jabin Teleports out of harm’s way. She reappears right behind Cliche, leaving Jade to suffer the force of the Blizzard all on his lonesome.
Cliche: <-10 EP>
Jade: <-14 HP; -4 EP>
Jabin: <-9 HP; -4 EP>
Panting, Jade tears into Jabin with yet another X-Scissor. Gosh, can this little freak just die already? Cliche tries to assist by targeting Jabin with an Ice Beam, but still, the Kirlia manages to keep herself upright. She then splits herself into clones to ensure her longevity. Hrm, all of a sudden, the prospects of my sought-after triple KO seem further away…
Cliche: <-8 EP>
Jade: <-4 EP>
Jabin: <-17 HP; -4 EP; 3 clones>
This is it! Jade tries to make her last action of the round count by conjuring up a swirling storm of jagged leaves and sends it arcing toward Cliche. This time, the attack manages to connect and rips into the fishy… but doesn’t manage to defeat him! By a hair, the tiniest little hair imaginable, the Lanturn lives! Delighted and thrilled with his stamina, Cliche commands one final Ice Beam to jet toward Jade, knocking the Sceptile down at last. However, the energy required to execute the move proves to be too much for poor Cliche. He feels that last little hair drift away and slumps over, defeated.
Jabin and his clones peer at one another momentarily before breaking out into cheers. To victory! Hip-hip-hooray!

Still, he’s prepared to deliver everything he’s got during his final few moments of the match.
Ruby begins by calling forth an imperious Blizzard just as Jabin starts muttering an incantation under breath. Even Acai, the slowest of the three, manages to unleash a crackling blossom of static Discharge in time. The ice and electricity creates a blue-yellow swell that obscures the field and, when the curtain surrounding the Pichu balloon finally falls, the round’s outcome remains to be seen. Inflata-Pichu starts to drift down toward the cloud cover, Acai, Ruby and Maggie are left to scout their next… ooh, over there!
