Good day, ladies and gents, and welcome to... the Ground Field! There's nothing particularly Groundy about it, but that's just fine by me. Today, the first round of the STAB-less Tournament will begin as veterans Darkly and Mew square off for supremacy. Will Mew be able to pull off the victory? Or will DL's ragtag band of Normals be able to sweep as most everyone is expecting? Time to see!

As the match begins, Mew's swarthy Charizard begins to close his eyes and prepare himself for what's to come. Starscream (who bears zero resemblance to her robotic namesake) doesn't entirely know what to make of her opponent's laidback approach and decides to throw caution to the wind... and by caution to the wind, I mean a Shadow Ball at Godzilla. It catches the dragon in the gut and does regular damage, but he seems none too dismayed. Hrm. Might Godzilla have a plan?

Remaining firmly planted on the ground, Godzilla keeps his eyes closed and continues to Bide his time. Starscream decides to perform a little magic trick called Watch the Charizard Smash Against the Wall Again and Again. Much to Godzilla's dismay, she pulls it off. Well.

When the Psychic barrage ends, Godzilla opens his eyes which are blazing like the sun. Bellowing, he stomps over to Starscream and unleashes the assault in a gargantuan physical blow that throws the Clefable against the arena's opposite wall. Satisfied, Godzilla puts his hands on his hips. How's that for a magic trick, bzznatch?

The round comes to an end as Godzilla Protects himself against a cone of electric current discharged by his competitor. Starscream pouts. Better luck next time, Decepticon.

Rocking a respectable lead, Godzilla slams his tail against the ground. Tremors rip through the Ground Field with increased power and knock Starscream onto her marshmallow-esque tushie. When the Bulldoze at last comes to an end, Starscream pulls herself up and begins singing... "Steal My Sunshine" by Len?! Well, that brings me back. As memories of the late nineties rush back to Godzilla, he finds himself lulled into a deep sleep. He begins to dream about Gap sweaters and slap bracelets. Good times.

Things appear awfully one-sided as Godzilla continues his mid-battle nap. Starscream does a spin on the spot and amasses a small militia of Clefables. Add one more and they'll be able to form a bowling league!

Starscream makes a disgusting noise as though horking up something nasty. After a moment, she delivers: she spews out a steaming glob of Toxic ickiness that splatters against one of Godzilla's wings. As the gross stuff osmoses under the Charizard's black scales, it begins to leave the beast feeling slightly under the weather. He vomits a little in his sleep. Charming.

Still asleep, Godzilla begins to lose a bit of health to the Toxin <-3 HP>.

With Godzilla rocking a significant lead now, the question remains... can he hold onto it long enough to pull off the win? The Charizard begins babbling inanely in his sleep before coughing out a black mantle of smoke. The smoke diffuses throughout the arena and gets in Starscream's eyes, compromising her Accuracy. She ambles blindly across the battlefield and tries to locate her opponent, but she can't seem to find him. Grr. Friggin' hell. In frustration, she shoots off a wobbling ball of electricity in hopes that it hits her target. No such luck.

With that, Godzilla awakens to find the arena filled with smoke. Unable to see his own opponent, he fires a Swift off into the thinning mass; the sudden cry of pain that results from the attack announces the move's success. Just like that, Starscream is cloneless once more. She closes her eyes and exerts a strange, magical influence over the battlefield.

The smoke has mostly vanished at this point which gives Godzilla a clear opportunity to lash out at his Clefable chum with a series of random physical blows. Yowch! Starscream responds by scooping up a bit of mud from the ground (note: pay arena janitor less) and whips it at his opponent. It smacks him right in the face. Yuck.

!) Where's the damage from Swift on Starscream?

Start getting your stats back by using Hone Claws, then make Starscream feel the pain with some another Facade followed with an Earthquake. If she tries to Sing again drown her out with a Roar, and if she tries to use Double Team again use Swift, if she tries an Earthquake Counter it.

Since there's nothing worse than battling with dull claws, Godzilla stomps over to the nearest wall where he begins sharpening his lovely little talons. Do we have a budding little aesthetician on our hands? However, his attempt doesn't really pan out: a hand of spectral black energy leaps out of Starscream's chest before attacking Godzilla with a Snatching motion. His claws remain dull as all hell while hers get lovely and sharp. Agh! All that work for nothing!

Sharpened claws or no sharpened claws, Godzilla decides to vent his frustration at Starscream with even more random physical strikes. Starscream takes the hit and fizzles madly. At long last, she gets what she wants: she releases an assault of heavy voltage that leaves Godzillas muscles as rigid as... a carbon rod with stage fright?

(I suck at off-the-cuff similes.)

Godzilla's body goes immobile as Starscream squirts a cold spurt of water right in his face. Ahh! Who does that? Seriously, who?

Again, though, his attempt to bolster his own stats means nothing. With a second Snatching black hand, Starscream takes the stat boosts for herself. Godzilla pouts. Aww, don't worry, bud. Dancing is still good cardio, right?

You know what's way more fun than throwing one glob of mud? Um, throwing two, obvs! Starscream flings some mud at Godzilla and causes the beast to wail like a newborn banshee. He tries to throw his body at her but misses on account of all that mud getting snuggly with his corneas. Well. That's rather lame.

Starscream sizzles with electric current and blasts the bajeebuz out of Godzilla. With his lead rapidly minimizing, Godzilla trudges over to Starscream, hoists her over his head and whips her against ground. Even with all that natural marshmallowy padding, it still hurts.

The match enters its eleventh hour as Godzilla, after going a full round without a Paralysis lock-up, finds his luck running short. As Godzilla is reduced to a rather lifelike Charizard figurine, Starscream opts for a little R&R. Battling is, like, so overrated.

Once again, Starscream makes like an electric generator fries the bajeebuz out of Godzilla... who at this point is maaaad. Given his statuses and stat dips and ailing health, he has quite a bit of Frustration to vent. He attacks and attacks and attacks but doesn't quite manage to bring Starscream to her end. Alas. Poor guy tried.

Godzilla: <-15 HP; -11 EP>

Godzilla takes a step toward Starscream to finish her off, but the Clefable pops out of existence. She reappears on the far side of the arena. Like his hopes for victory, she is at this point sadly out of reach.

And with that, Godzilla falls <-10 HP>. A good fight.
