Well, I think I can sum up three words that seem to be drawing more people than anywhere else right now on TPM, and those three words are...Anime...Style...Battling.

Seriously, I'm really glad to see ASB is getting active again...it's not as big as it was years ago, but with Ayeun as our fourth moderator, and the Mega Pokemon tournament going on, there's plenty of excitement there these days. Not only that, for the first time in ages, we have a newbie in ASB whose very first TPM post was in the Approval Tower.

But, on the flip side, I feel like my interest in AC/CC is slowly fading away in favour of my ASB interest...most likely due to the absence of many people (other than Lady Vulpix) who seem to have pushed TPM aside in favour of real life stuff. It's a sad thing, but it's like being drawn to a source of energy...the stronger that energy, the more likely you are to be drawn to it.

I guess I'll share my ASB knowledge with those of you who are clueless about it.

It's not that hard to understand, a person has to get their Pokemon approved at the Approval Tower (newbies go there first to register a team), though there are some limitations to what Pokemon can be started with (e.g. legendaries, fossil Pokemon, and psuedo-legendaries cannot be part of a starting team, but they can be found and caught in the Safari Zone). Once a person has their team approved, they can start battling. Basically, they either make a topic asking to battle someone (or leave it as an open challenge, where they're not challenging someone in particular), or they can go to a topic posted by someone else, and post there, if the other person is looking for an opponent.

Pokemon in ASB can use any legal move they can learn in the games (level-up moves, TMs and HMs, egg moves, tutored moves), except for certain event moves, or something like NYPC moves. In each round of the battle, the trainers generally choose three moves to use in that round, and they alternate turns going first (e.g. if you moved first in the first round, you move second in the second round, first in the third round, second in the fourth round, and so on).

Of course, battles can't happen without a ref. They're the people who bring the battle to life, putting words to the actions each Pokemon does. Without a ref, a battle cannot have a proper finish (who wins the battle by knocking out their opponent's Pokemon). Of course, when a battle does finish, the participants of that battle (the winner, the loser, and the ref) all get points, which can be spent on a variety of things in ASB such as catching new Pokemon, evolving Pokemon who have battle experience, etc.

I hope that clears things up a bit for you non-ASBers who have been wondering just what ASB is about. You don't have to join our league if you don't want to, but if you are in ASB, it's the place for people who have a competitive spirit.
