Custom Name History

Besides the superb Pokemon series, there is also a horde of other videogames where you can rename your characters. Here I want you to provide us with your character names from videogames other than Pokemon.

I myself rarely rename my characters these days.

BUT when I started videogaming big time in 1997, I did like the feature in Final Fantasy VII, for a while.

So I started giving names to my characters. Some of them were sacrilege, some of them funny.

Cloud = COOL
Barret = PONTUS
Tifa = LARACROFT
Aeris = HEHEE
Cait Sith = CAT+FAT

and so on.

The other time I named Cloud after myself and the girls after the girls who I liked at school. But then became fed up.

Still, I wanted to five my Chocobos separate names and discovered a nice pattern:

FIGHT
LIGHT
MIGHT
NIGHT

And so on, can't remember. Now I'm playing it in Japanese, and have gone for sort of random Chocobo names...

敵 てき teki (enemy)
咳 せき seki (cough)
草風 くさかぜ kusakaze (grasswind)

I was not terribly kind to my Final Fantasy characters when given the option to rename them. Mikachu, you may appreciate that in FFXIII-3 I renamed all of Lightning's outfits after Sailormoon attacks

Naming Link something like "Eggbert" or "Gonzalo" always makes Legend of Zelda games interesting! "Eggbert, the Hero of Time!"

Actually, I remembered one of my Chocobos' name incorrectly. I just gave it yesterday.

草影 くさかげ kusakage (grass shadow)

My next Chocobo will be

雨風 あめかぜ amekaze (rainwind)

I always go with whatever the canon names are. Maybe I've broken that rule once or twice, but I can't remember any offhand.

That being said, I approve of DragoKnight's method as well.
