I haven't either, last I remember, he was battling Gary's evvee in the Johto series.

Ash and Gary had a battle in the Johto League Championships (not the final since Ash only made it to the top 8). We found out his starter was Squirtle (now a Blastoise) but Ash ultimately won and then lost to Harrison in the next round

Also, Ash battled Gary prior to the Indigo League tournament. In a one-on-one battle, Pikachu lost to Gary's Eevee.

It should be noted that "Showdown at the Poke-Corral" technically occured in the second season; however, the Indigo League tournament had yet to begin at that point. (In fact, it didn't actually conclude until the 27th episode of season two.)

The animators had to show off how strong Charizard was, so they had 'im beat them both up. I don't recall the battle versus Golem because I never saw it, but when he fought against Blastoise, Ash actually used a good strategy.

Pikachu wasn't registered to battle, and neither was Eevee (who had probably evolved into an Umbreon at that point).

Maybe I was wrong. I just have a feeling that there was an episode with a Japanese name being something about Ash VS Gary.

And they skipped the whole league and 'Friends to the End' and 'Pallet Party Panic'. That was the end of my hope. I couldn't watch 'Bye Bye Psyduck', 'Misty Meets Her Match!' and many others. I even made a topic about this, and nobody had heard about skipping that many. Or should I use the Finnish term, "hypätä yli", i.e. jump over.
