Can it be used effectively, or should it just be avoided?

Its your choice, but I think I got the perfect moveset for a Perish Song user:
Misdreavus
Mean Look
Perish Song
Protect OR Substitute ( I prefer Protect )

I'm thinking along the lines of for my Lapras...

O, Lapras. Too bad it can't learn Whirlpool by breeding now. It would have been a replacement for Mean Look. Finding wild Lapras is a bore, it took me 7 hours just to find 1.

Yes u can, its in Icefall Cave on Four Island, but u need Waterfall. And theres only a 1% chance of finding it, but i think its way lower than that.

Umm....
You DO know that the dude in Silph Co still gives you one right? And you can allways breed for more?

Why KO Missy if you could just save it up for another Perishtrapping? :D

Although Misdreavus really can only Perishtrap about 1-2 Pokemon anyway, and 3 if you're REALLY lucky, so I can see Grudge being a bit useful...

I was under the impression that if I perishtrap I die. I could switch out on last turn, but then so could the opponent. Am I incorrect?

Not if you use Mean Look and switch out once your count goes to one. :D

I thought Mean Look (and all the other trapping moves) needed you to keep the user in to keep working? It can be baton passed, but that would BP the perish count too, so isn't much good.

Right, that's true BUT:

New turn: Both Pokemon's Perish count have fallen down to 1.
Player with Misdreavus: Selects to switch out Misdreavus.
Other Player:Attempts to select a Pokemon to switch, but Mean Look won't allow.
Other Player:Selects an attack, since he can't do anything else.

New turn:
Misdreavus is switched
Mean Look Wears off.
Perish count falls to 0 for the 'Other Player's' Pokemon.
Other Player's Pokemon gets knocked out.

See? :D

I think Jynx would put the moves into better use:
Mean Look
Perish Song
Lovely Kiss
*filler*
Lovely Kiss would really be an asset to Jynx for a Perish-Trapper

It would be better than Misdreavus to use, if it didn't have a base defence of 35.:(

Hypnosis/Perish Song/Mean Look Gengar is the same idea, but with more defeses and less accuracy.
