I'll be blunt. If you type something into the address bar it's still listing websites, which as far as I' concerend should have been deleted when i cleared History, Temp Internet Files and Cookies. I don't want to have to explain to my parents the huge lists of porn that they might accidently find.

Advice please, the sooner the better.

Is this in IE?

C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

try clearing that out and see if that helps. i imagine you are using windows xp. it's C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files in windows 98, if i remember correctly.

if that doesn't work, try downloading ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and clearing stuff out that way.

edit: for firefox, delete history.dat from C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random letters>.default. it's C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\ in windows 98.

Yes it's IE.

I've cleared out the Temp Internet Files through the address you said but it made no difference. I'm gonna download that program now.

First off, switch to Firefox. Second, once you do that, there is an extension that allows you to clear the address bar of all saved entries.

First, I don't intend to stay on this computer for much longer, hopefully i'll be getting a internet conection of my soon. Second, it took my parents a month or two to learn Intern Explorer, and they still can't grasp everything that happens on this machine, I don't think suddenly changing is going to go down well with them.

And CCleaner hasn't fixed the problem either, though it has nicely cleaned up every other menu on the comp.

http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1009 hmm maybe that would work?

http://www.google.com/search?q=clear+address+bar or something else from there :).

If the cached addresses are still listed in the Address box in Internet Explorer, use the following steps:

1. Quit Internet Explorer.
2. Delete all of the values except for the (Default) value from the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

easy as pie to do. :)

edit: start > run > regedit, if you didn't know. ;)

CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) (http://www.ccleaner.com/)that's the spirit! :keke:

/high-fives John

on topic, Crap Cleaner takes care of the drop down address bar history too

if that doesn't work, take Aipom of Doom's (or John's) suggestion

Tools>Options>Clear History

That always worked for me.

Also, C:/Windows/History [delete everything in the folder] worked too.

Back when I was using IE, that is. Scott's right, switch to Firefox, now.

This is the best topic ever.

EDIT: To make this on topic, don't screw around with your system folders too much as you might delete something you didn't want to.
