Focus Punch

What would work better with Focus Punch on a Gengar, Substitute or Confuse Ray. Sub has its obvious benefits, but with Confuse Ray it would not have to give up HP. But there's always a chance the opponent ciuld fight out of its confusion.

Substitute - Focus Punch is a good combo because if they can't break your Substitute after setting it up then your Focus Punch is bound to hit them next turn. Also Substitute has the advantage of avoiding Status if they try a Status attack on the turn you setup a Substitute.

I'd vote for Sub over Confuse Ray as well.

confuseray has a bug where if you accidentally confuseray twice they get un-confused. so it's a nono.

Never seen that, and wild pokémon often try to Confuse Ray confused targets. What version are you referring to?
