Clicky #2 (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/)

Here's the rundown; A group of people got together to re-create Chrono Trigger, and were shut down by Square/Enix. BIG dissapointment. They made a new engine, and made pretty decent graphics (think animeish but much more awesome). I think that Chrono Trigger is the perfect game to remake, because it's still perfect in this day and age, and updated graphics wouldn't hurt. Imagine fighting Lavos with Half Life 2 graphics. Thats the gaming equivilant of 29 orgasms. Before I go off tangeant again, you can use this topic to talk about Chrono Trigger being remade, and why you'd like that; or another game you want to see remade with updated graphics.

Edit: added another clicky w/ link to trailer.

They should have expected to have their project closed down. You can't just go and break all copyright laws. IMO there shouldn't be another Chrono Trigger game. The original was awesome and should always be remembered as that and its legacy not spoiled further. Chrono Cross was already bad enough in that regard.

BTW, it's nice to see that I'm not the only liking Tenacious D.

Yeah, I remember finding out about this. I was following their progress for a while and I was bit miffed when I found the project had to be shutdown.

They made the character models and maps from scratch and they created their own versions of the music. They also stated they were not going to remake the full game, just 10 of the 'best bits'. But still, Square-Enix insisted on closing their project down. If they were re-creating the full-game, fair enough, but just some of the scenes? That wouldn't have hurt, surely.

They legally cannot do that because they haven't asked Square-Enix for permission to use their intellectual property.

You'll learn the hard way how companies value their intellectual properties by getting slapped with a nasty cease-and-desist order.

I know. It bugs the hell out of me. Stupid freaking "intellectual property".

It's too bad the project got shot down; I was looking forward to their work.

If it's some scenes, no it's not illegal.

Dub it fan-art. Hell, you can do whatever you awnt with fan-art and just say that it's not your creation.

If you found it on SA, it's either hilarious or not the least bit funny.

I'm not really laughing.

Plus the whole "LOLZ PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET FIT A GENERIC MOLD" thing has been around since the Internet burst hence from Al Gores loins.
