In the indigo league episode where Ash uses kigler against golbat brock and misty both gasp and tell ash that kinglers weak against flying attacks. Now we all know kingler is strickly a water type so why would they say that?

Poor translation, really. Happens a lot. They might have meant that Kingler had a disadvantage, not being able to fly.

It's really how you look at the way they said it. One can still be weak to aerial attacks yet not be weak to the fact that they're Flying-type moves. The fact is that Kingler was at a disadvantage against a fast Pokémon that could fly.

They probably wanted to add a little drama to the show by saying that it makes it look like Ash could lose the only pokemon that he used in that battle, but because he only used one pokemon in that battle it makes it look all the more better.
