Xbox Live Starter Kit

I have been thinking of getting and Xbox Live Starter Kit lately and I have a question. Is there any credit card use that has to be used for the starter kit besides if you want to by the starter kit with a credit card? I am at an understanding right now that all you have to do is by the kit, use the code inside of it and get 12 months of Xbox Live.
