As you may have seen, TML is leaving ASB and as a result, the forum has been placed in the care of myself and Razor Leaf.

As Head Mods in this forum we will be both working together to make ASB as great as it can be. We are planning some interesting ideas in the ASB forum over the next few weeks, and if anybody has feedback then they are more than welcome to contact either one of us through PM.

This post will be sticked and is basically to alert everyone of what's going on in the forum. It will be updated as regularly as needs be by either me or Razor Leaf.

Our first task is going to be moving all old/DQ-ed battles to the ASB archive. Originally this was for old matches on the old ASB server, but we feel the forum needs a spring clean.

Furthermore, we are going to be launching some more businesses, and if the activity picks up, then a Tournament may or may not begin. Of course, Tournaments will not be too commonplace, but there will be ways for any ASB-ers to voice their ideas and showcase some potential tournament ideas.

Reffing will be monitored closely to ensure that the quality of Reffing is maintained. We are also hoping to include a Loyalty System to battling and reffing, which will be explained as time goes on. This is to reward those who stay with us for long periods of time. Reffing for a certain amount of time will also be rewarded.

As there is just me and Dan, we will of course need a new Mod. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be looking at various potential candidates and deciding who, if anyone, should be modded.

OK, first things first, Chris and I are discussing a lot of things, and soon we'll put up a suggestions topic for people to share ideas. In the meantime, we're going to clean out the Towers and Businesses forum of all the old topics left behind from the old ASB and the revamping period.

Now alot of the topics, especially the businesses were staryed by you guys, like the Egg parks, and Safari Zones, or the Tournements. So We're giving you two weeks to go in and get any information you may want to keep from those topics, before we delete them.

Just so you know, guys: The next Contest is now up in the Business and Tournaments forum, and they will be posted up there every month. The Contest Hall of Fame, however, will remain in the ASB Towers. Furthermore, the Chunky Clefable Cafe is now open, so if anyone wants to pop in for a chat then feel free :D.

UPDATE


A new system is being implemented in ASB called the Loyalty Points System. It involves people getting points for their time in ASB. This is to hopefully keep people from simply leaving without a second glance.

If, a month after today, your activity has been moderate to high, you will receve 2 points as part of the Loyalty Points System. A Mod will PM you telling you that you are eligible for the 2 point bonus. Obviously you will need to post in the Bank so it can be updated.

If anybody claims to have recieved points when they have not been PMed, they will be fined double. And yes, you can have a negative Bank Balance.

This also applies for reffings. If you ref frequently over the next month you will recieve the same 2 point prize. This is to help increase reffing activity as referees are scarce these days.

News Update.

-The ASB Towers and Business and Tournaments have been spring cleaned by Razor Leaf. Thanks Dan. Now they are sparkly and less cluttered with old things.

-Incidentally, the ASB Tower forum has a new addition - the ASB Suggestion Topic. We want to make sure you know that we are open for critiscism and if you have problems with the way things are run, or have suggestions, or have queries, they can be posted in there and one of us will get back to you as soon as we can.

-Finally, the ideas for the first ASB Tournament are finally coming together. In fact, as I type this, the golden document full of tidbits of information is being sent to Razor Leaf over MSN. But you can't see! We're going to look at things and finalise things before we start one.

Of course, with a tournament, we will need refs. And since many will want to be battling, there will be an increased rate of pay for refs who ref in the tournament. More on this as it comes.

NEWS UPDATE

We seem to be updating a lot these days. Anyway, not really much to add.

* The Egg Centre has permanently lowered it's prices to 1 Point per egg. So if you fancy a random pokemon, stop by and grab yourself a shell covered surprise.

* I know the release date in the UK for Emerald is a long way off, but October is a long time to wait anyway. In any case, we're now allowing Emerald Move tutor attacks in ASB. Most up to date Pokedexes should have these listed. They can generally be identified as GSC TM moves.

* To go with the Emerald Moves, we've also added a new one off move to the attack list. It's not an anime move as far as I know, so I guess it's unique for our ASB I guess. It's the atttack Shadow Rush as seen in Colloseum, used by Shadow Pokemon. As per the game it is a typeless attack with recoil damage. Here's the details:

Shadow Rush (---)
The user becomes surrounded in a darkness that is unlike either Ghost or Dark type energy. Fuelled with frustration the pokemon charges forward attacking with all it's strength. Though physical, the attack will damage any pokemon type with a normal amount of damage. Due to the force of the attack, some recoil damage is taken.

Similar to Frustration but a bit more powerful and it works against any pokemon type to deal regular damage. Any pokemon can learn it, not just those who were shadowed in Colloseum. It's not much, but it's another attack you may wish to use for fun.

We still do not have a date for the Tournament but we can tell you it is coming up soon. A big prize, a big chance to battle and a big number of matches will hopefully make it a sure hit.

We have a 'new' member to ASB - Silencer, who has returned back to the ASB community. Good luck in ASB, Silencer!

And finally, we have a Ref of the Month. Since people seem highly unenthusiastic about refs, it will be monitored by me and Razor Leaf unless we get votes. Of course, this month we have to hand it to Chris Watarimono for his superb hand in helping the reffing crisis in ASB. Chris you get 10 points and a free catch/evolution. Tournament Info


Yes sir we finally have a Tournament underway! An official ASB Tournament. It will begin on the SIXTEENTH OF SEPTEMBER and will be between 16 competetors. All information will be posted on the 16th. Be sure to get all your Pokemon evolved and toughened up! This tourney will throw them every witch way with an assortment of battle styles to test even the best of us.

So get ready!


Contest news

Congratulations to Wolfsong for winning the August Pokemon Contest. And comiserations to Chris Watarimono, who fell 2nd by a mere 3% fatigue. Tough break :(. But all is not lost - Chris has recently aquired a Combusken and Haunter to his team, so we can guess he'll be ripping into the Tournament. Watch out!

Tournament Draws near...


Yes, it is only 5 days until we begin the ASB Tournament! Excited? I hope so. I know I am. It is really time for everyone to make last-minute preparations and evolutions and whatnot. But until the 16th, details are hush-hush and kept closely guarded by me and Dan. I think everyone will really enjoy the set-ups and situations you'll be thrown into. And the prize is quite good, too....


Term starts


Well for many of us, school has started and I have just finished my first week of college. It may be a more strained time for all of us, but everyone please try to remember reffings and battles if you're busy. Post in the absence tower if you're going to be away for more than 3 days.



September Contest

6 Hopefulls have signed up for the September Pokemon Contest. Anyone wanting to apply to be a Contest Judge (and ref the October Contest) see the Reffing Tower, ASB Basics, or simply PM me and I'll explain everything. This month, the contest is slightly smaller, and this month I have also custom-made the ribbon instead of recolouring and editing the Battle Tower one from Ru/Sa ^^.


Blatant Advertising


Yes, it is shameful, but I am blatantly advertising my new fic. The Pokemon Masters League (A Tribute to ASB) is a fic based on the expiriences and wonderment of lovely old ASB itself! When I started here, I thought the goings on here would be perfect for a fic and have put pen to paper. A number of members have already been written into chapters and many more are going to do so.

The Tournament

As I write this, we need 5 more competetors for the Tournement. Don't be shy, come on! If you're recently approved then don't worry. People are paired up so that you won't face foes too strong. It also counts for EXP for your Pokemon, so it's essentially having a 4th battle slot. It should be great fun!

The Tournament is taking place in the Official TML Stadium, to show Becca that she won't be forgotten too easily! (If you're reading this Becca, erm...hi!)

TOURNAMENT BEGINS

Yep, the Tournament has now started, and all 16 battlers will soon get a chance to battle it out for the grand prize of.. some stuff I've forgotten right now. Chris will smack me for forgetting. Anyway, positions in it are now closed, so for any newcomers, you'll just have more time to prepare until the next one is held.

ASB CHRISTMAS TREE

Members of ASB who have been here long enough to recall the Christmas Tree will be glad to hear it will be here in December. For those who don't know, it's basically a place where you can indulge in the 'Give and Receive'ness of the Holiday Season. If you want to share out some points with your friends, or buy them an egg, you can do it here without any regards for general rules.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE

It can't all be fun and games, have to be a mod sometime or another. Harassing a referee or battler in any way, be it through Private Message, Instant Messenger or in the topic directly will face being DQ'd from their battle, and their opponent receiving full points no matter what stage the battle is at. Harassment of the banker will result in Points being deducted from accounts (including going into Negative numbers). Obviously further harassment will go further than ASb and will be taken up with the entire forum mods.

THE SEPTEMBER POKEMON CONTEST

Unfortunately this months contest was cut short - Tourney information and a busy time for all meant the final match was cut short. Normally I would have panned it out but I know both Darkfire and Chris W are busy so we may have taken some time.

The winner is Darkfire and her Bulbasaur, Ambrosia. They are now up in the Hall of Fame.

The October Contest is going to be posted and judged by my lovely assistant Vermillion. As usual it will have 8 competetors. Old and new may join, so don't be shy!

Tournament Info:
With R1 so far getting round about halfway through, the Tournament is so far a sucess. As of now Charles Legend is the only one who has made it to the second round, but there will be many more to come. Good luck to all competing.

Contests...?
I must stress the time factor in contests makes it much more demanding than normal battles. We are still slugging behind this month and I would hate to hand the Tournament to someone when it is half-finished, like last month. So please remember, amid the battles and tournaments, that the October Contest is nestled in the B&T forum. Those competing check to see when you are to post your appeals.

Egg Center
A couple of things. Since we are fast approaching Halloween we will be running a special themed offer at the Egg center!

Buy a Mystery Egg, and the chances of getting a Dark or Ghost Pokemon will be significantly higher leading up to October 31st. Furthermore, the shiny rate for Mystery Eggs will also be much higher! Get down there now to take advantage of this fabulous offer. Offer ends November 1st.

Look out for other holiday-related bargains too.

Furthermore, with the Christmas Tree coming soon (end of November/early December - date to be confirmed) there can be some slight tweaks to the egg process.

If you want an egg for a friend, and you want them to recieve it in egg-form, you can pay 2 points and have the Egg placed in a special incubator until you want to give the egg to a friend. This offer opens now. So you come in, pay us and your egg will be safe until you wish to give it to someone. Once you take it out it will take 3 days to hatch.

Alternatively you can buy an egg, let it hatch and give the baby to a friend. Or you could get a Pokemon from the Approval Tower if you know exactly what they want. Points can also be given. All gifts will be posted in the Christmas Tree topic, coming soon.

S.I.R!

With the Tournament we have 6 designed referees. However many of them are IN battles themselves and some are just way too busy. If you perhaps want to help with the reffing situation, or else missed the chance to post to be a Tourney Ref, then you can be a S.I.R! A S.I.R is a standing-in ref.

Just post in a Tourney match (without a ref of course) and volunteer to ref. S.I.R's will recieve slightly less points than standard refs, which will change from Round to Round. For example, reffing Round 1 matches earns you 3 points, but a S.I.R will recieve 2 points.

Tournament News

In a spectacular match, Andrew defeated Darkfire and is now on his way into the second round of the ASB Tournament. Well done, Andrew! Many matches are underway and I think we have only two which have not yet begun. Good luck everyone!

Furthermore I have to stress I am not really happy with the activeness of refs. I know everyone has a life, and prioirities, and I am not trying to eradicate them. However so many of the matches are deteriorating and I have felt the need to take over the reffing for one match to keep it consistent. Remember this kind of thing loses the flow if we wait three weeks for someone to post. Please try and keep on top of things everyone.


Contests

The October Contest is still chugging away. Everyone is so busy it's really ground down. Of course we will persevere, and make sure it IS completed. After all it was started in October, so it's the October Contest. However, the November Contest WILL have to start some time in November.

The November Contest has some nice twists in it, TBA tells me. Sounds like a good idea. Everyone in the Oct Contest, keep it regular and try not to forget.

Alas there was no November Contest, but the end of the October contest saw myself, narrowly missing out on winning. The winner was of course Chris Watarimono (whose name I can now spell without having the double check) and his Elekid. Well done Chris.

Well we have a mere 8 days left until Christmas, so if you haven't already given out some festive cheer, then visit the Christmas Tree! Make sure to visit regularly, as you never know who might be giving you a gift!


Smeargle

Now I know a few people have the sketching Smeargle on their team, and there has been debate on how exactly this will work out. We have decided on how Sketch will work:


Sketch:
Sketch is used by a Smeargle immediately after an opponent uses another move. The move in question is immediately added to the Smeargle’s moveset until the end of the battle. The Smeargle’s art can provide whatever focus (club for Bone Club, for instance) or body shape (wing for Wing Attack, for instance) is necessary to perform the move, and ALL moves are susceptible to being Sketched. Period. Excellent accuracy.


If a Smeargle is used in battle, it can use sketch up to 25 times. The referee will have to keep a log (in each round) of what moves Smeargle has learned. When Smeargle is KO'ed, it loses those moves and starts fresh in its next match.

This will be launched in 2006, but a date is not set. For those unaware of what the Battle Frontier is, then I have written below a short summary of it.

In Pokemon Emerald, upon defeating the Elite 4, you are able to catch a boat to the Battle Frontier. It is an exclusive area of battling for only the strongest trainers. There are seven facilities to test your ability , each run by a trainer, called a Frontier Brain. They are stronger than other Gym Leaders.


Obviously details on the various facilities are going to be kept closely secret until the Frontier Opens, but check the thread out in ASB Towers and you can see suggestions on how we might execute the Battle Frontier. The Frontier Brains all have tweaks to the battles, and theyre sure to add a twist to ordinary Battles. Check it out!


Egg Center

A new type of egg has been discovered at the Egg Center!

The Wonder Egg
[i]This egg is golden in colour with a perpetual glow and a gentle ringing eminating from it. It has the chance of any species of Pokemon (excluding legendaries) hatching from it.

So try it out guys!

The Battle Frontier

Now this subject has recieved very little attention, but it is a possible excting factor we may impliment during 06. No date is set as of yet, but you in ASB will be given the chance to battle the Brains of the Battle Frontier to test your ability. We have got all the details ready, but are keeping tight lipped on the surprises waiting in store for any keen battlers.

What will most likely happen is we will hold off the Battle Frontier until the Tournament has ended, that way we're not overwhelmed by various activities.

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE - PLEASE READ


We are going to be making some changes in ASB after careful consideration. These will most likely be trial changes, and their implementation in the future will depend on how they work over the next month.


Reffing Rewards

Normally a free catch or evolution is rewarded to a ref who completes the following number of finished battles:

Rookie: 5 battles
Intermediate: 4 battles
Experienced: 4 battles
Master: 3 battles

This will be changed in the future because we feel that it is too easy to be deemed a 'reward'. They seem to lose their initial charm if it is easier to accomplish. Therefore for each reffing status, you will need to ref one more completed match:

Rookie: 6 battles
Intermediate: 5 battles
Experienced: 5 battles
Master: 4 battles
Head Refs: 3 battles

This post will also be made in the reffing tower. MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS. Not knowing these is not an excuse.


Battle Capacity

Normally you are able to compete in 3 battles at once. We have decided that, on trial, this will be extended to 4 battles at any one time. We feel that some matches can take a long time, and having four will not do any initial harm. Obviously after a month we will review this, and if it is sucessful it will keep going. If not, it will be scrapped.


X-Round Matches

Recently, following the tournament, matches have been established which last for 5 or 6 rounds in length. These have now been banned as they are unfair to use as battle EXP or a finished reffing. The minimum amount of rounds will now be 10.

-Well done Asayake for winning the January Ribbon! It was very close indeed. Similarly, TheBlueAvenger has won the February Ribbon. Congratulations both of you - we'll hopefully see more of your fantastic appeals in the Grand Festival, coming Summer 2006.

-The March Contest is about to begin, with a host of new and old faces battling for the coveted ribbon and entry into the prestigous Grand Festival. Good luck everyone!

-In related news, the Grand Festival has been shifted back a month, to take place around June/July time. During the months of the Grand Festival (for it might take some time) there will not be any Contests.

Rant 2.0

Ok there has been a few times where people have posted an evolution for a team member while the Pokemon is still in a battle.

YOU CANNOT EVOLVE A POKEMON IF IT IS CURRENTLY BATTLING.

I've stressed this but it still slips through the net. I would love to have the time to check through each persons 4 matches and determine if the evolving Pokemon is battling, but I have a pretty busy life on the other side of this computer.

IF you evolve a Pokemon, MAKE SURE IT IS NOT BATTLING. If we find you have evolved a Pokemon while it has been in battle, we will fine you by 2 points. And yes, you can have a negative balance.

Despite this being a ranty post, I would just like to say I am very proud of the way ASB is going. Generally speaking, refs are efficient, people are all very courteous and the battles move in a very good pace. It makes me very happy to see my forum working like clockwork and I hope you all pat yourselves on the back.

Originally I had an egg-related bonus for easter, but what do you know? I forgot all about it. Oh well. In recent news the Egg Center has hit the 50-egg mark! We've sold a whopping 50something eggs since the egg center opened, and we've got a variety of Pokemon out of them including Tangela, Castform, Misdreavus, Bulbasaur, Plusle, Spheal and much, much more!


Contests and The Grand Festival

The April Contest, hosted by Karin, is running smoothly and I believe it's down to Tsuki and her Venomoth versus Dark Dragonite and Chansey! Check out the Business and Tournaments forum to see how they're doing.

The final contest of this season, the May Contest, is being judged by Ace64.

The Grand Festival will begin on July 1st, 2006. It is open to 10 Contest Winners. For a full list of Contest Winners, check out The Hall of Fame in the Towers subforum. If you are a contest winner, then you're eligible for competition.

It will work like the tournament did. I'll post the Grand Festival Info topic like I did with the tournament, and in there, you post if you want to compete. By then we will have 11 people eligible for the Grand Festival and I hope that you all compete for a placement. Only 10 can be accepted.

We will also need three people to judge the contest. By the time July rolls around, I would ask that any judge who has not gained entry into The Grand Festival do offer their services. If you are interested in posting, do so in the main topic when it is posted.

In a similar fashion to the Tournament, there are different ‘rounds’: 5 in total. The main topic will be updated each time when a new round begins.

There will be three appeal stages and two battle stages. Judges will all give a score out of 10.0 for each appeal in the appeal stage, giving the coordinator a score out of 30.0 altogether.

I will ask that, for each of the three appeal stages, a different judge posts the appeals up. Prior to this, they will have shown the other two judges the contest reffing and they will reply with their score for each appeal, so that when the judge posts, they have all three judges appeals there.

For the battling stages I may ask current ASB Refs to ref for us as they are simply battles.

The prize for winning the Grand Festival will be 8 points, entry into the Hall of Fame and The Ribbon Cup.

More details will follow shortly.


Member of the Month?

As opposed to the Ref of the Month, which we never really do much anyway (whoops), me and Dan have contemplated doing a Member of the Month, similar to the ROTM but including every ASB Member.

Politeness, punctuality, etc etc will all be taken into account.

Tiny-Tourney

Also starting on July 1st is The Tiny-Tourney – a small scale Tournament to coincide with the Grand Festival.

This tournament is aimed more for the newer members of ASB. It is open only to single-stage and non-evolving Pokemon only!

There will be 8 positions and it will simply be a chance for some people who failed to compete last time to give the tournament another shot. More info in the next few weeks. DON’T PM ME ASKING ME FOR A PLACE! I’ll shoot you.

It is also a chance for newer members to ASB to participate in a tournament without the stress of facing my Charizard or Claydol!


Ties


No, not the snazzy garment to wear with shirts. The issue of a tie in a atch has been brought up recently and thanks to The Missing Link we have drafted the point system for a tie:

- 1 on 1: Ref (2 pts.); Tie (2 pts.)
- 2 on 2: Ref (4 pts.); Tie (3 pts.)
- 3 on 3: Ref (6 pts.); Tie (4 pts.)
- 4 on 4: Ref (8 pts.); Tie (5 pts.)
- 5 on 5: Ref (10 pts.); Tie (6 pts.)
- 6 on 6: Ref (12 pts.); Tie (7 pts.)


MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THIS. It is not acceptable to not know the rules.


Bumping

This is happening more recently. If a ref/battler hasnt responded, you can bump the topic up as a last resort. It's far better to send a polite PM to the person and remind them. And don't bump after a few days. Chances are they do remember the match, but are simply too busy.


Banned Moves

This is an issue in most battles: Banned Moves. It is perfectly legitimate to ban any move you like, but you MUST specify exactly which moves you do not want to use.

Saying 'cheap' moves is NOT specific enough. Some would say attract is cheap, some would not. Likewise for toxic, substitute or rest.

Saying 'status moves' is NOT specific enough. You need to address whether you mean simple status-inflictors (toxic, thunderwave) or moves which induce a status effects too (poison sting, spark).

Similarly, recovery moves is NOT specific enough. Simple health restoration like recover, moonlight or morning sun? What about moves that deal damage and recover, like Mega Drain?


Think about this and be specific every time.

UPDATE
Grand Festival


The Grand Festival is near!

May's contest was won by Elec Man EXE and he is one of many contestants to be entering the Grand Festival - a league set-up of contests which should prove to be very rewarding. More details will come over the coming month since it is getting so near!


Now then, Grey was the winner of the February Contest but has decided to leave following the June Contest. That means there are exactly 10 contest winners thus far and 10 entrants. So, in short, it would be extremely helpful if everybody entered.


If not, it is understandable.


A topic will be opened called "Grand Festival Information Center". This will be where a) the entrants register for the Festival and b) where information on the 5 rounds that take place. These consist of three initial appeal rounds and a further 2 battle rounds.


The Judging system has already been stated (IIRC) but here it is again:


We have THREE judges for the appeal rounds. Karin (04621), OzAndrew and a third vacant spot. PM me if any current judges want the third post. The judges are only active for the Appeal Stages. For the Battle Rounds we will need Refs.

Anyone who is an official ASB ref, you can sign up for the Reffing battles of the Grand Festival during the appeal stages when the Information Center topic is posted.

The exact point prizes etc will be decided by July 1st.




The Tiny Tourney


Intended to run alongside the Grand Festival is a small-scale tournement for smaller Pokemon and some of the rookies among us. The main Tournament at current is quite big scale with Poliwraths, Weezing, Arcanine's running wild. This will be different.

Arivadechi CCC!

The Chunky Clefable Cafe (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/index.php?topic=42638.1050) is shutting down on August 1st, to be replaced by an entirely new diner-based hangout. From what I've gathered, a bunch of the ditto hanging around will be transforming the new Chat thread into various different resturaunts and, as a result, it will undergo a new name on the first of every month.

Look out for Hoothooters on August 1st!


Gym Leaders

Back by popular demand, 6 Gym Leaders will soon be arriving at ASB. Check your battles and see what or how much has been deleted; of course now you may be the one whose turn it is to post and you may not realize so please check.

So most people are aware now that a lot of posts have gone. Refs - your work may have been deleted and I know you put a lot of thought and consideration into your reffings. Battlers, those last few rounds wherein victory was in your grasp have gone and you are hurtled back to a slightly earlier part of your match. And, for some of us lucky ones, those really unlucky rounds have left us forever and we might get lucky next time.

But I have to stress the fact that unless we try to work back to where we were, this forum is going to wheeze and clatter its way to some sort of forum cemetary.

I know its frustrating but we need to sort it out. I myself have been seen posting with things like "We've lost 4 rounds!" and "oh god the match has dissapeared!" but we should try and get things back to normal.

Otherwise, people are too pissed off because their matches have regressed, people won't reply and all threads will drift back into the pages of our forums history.

So if you're a ref - please try and get back on track; please don't be put off by the fact some of your work is lost.

Battlers, the same applies. If you're strategy paid off, or the dice worked in your favour, please try and put that behind you and make sure the match can progress. Check your matches to see if it's your turn to attack.

Ok so Razor Leaf is leaving us. That means that a lot will change around here. Dan has been a great mod - I doubt anyone [sans Rapamon2, Her089 and Rapamon3] could disagree.

Before we begin the next tournament, we are holding an auction during the next week or so for his Pokemon. He has agreed to put them up for bid, and the proceeds will be a presumably large prize for the Tourney.

At the moment it looks like we're doing the Random Tourney. Look for signups in about a fortnight.

Furthermore we have the Safari Zone being launched. Look out for rare artefacts or hidden items to redeem for points or other things!


This is a very brief news post, I am sorry.

He’s Gone, He’s Gone Oh My…

Moderator Razor Leaf has hung up his moderating boots in ASB. He will be missed! His team was auctioned off in Business & Tournaments and raised a hellofalot of points! The Auction is still going on now, but it is winding down. If there is anything you want to put up do it now so we can start the Random Tourney!

The raised money from the Auction will go to the Prize Money of the Tournament.

So Dan, good luck in everything and thanks for all you did in ASB! We’ll miss you!

We have had a string of successful contests in ASB. Andrew is still yet to win one! River became the first Coordinator to win two contests (well done you). The February Contest is being held at the moment and is looking good!

Look out for a very unique contest in March hosted by yours truly! We’re going to do some never-before-seen elements which should be quite fun!


Attack List Better?

Hopefully in ASB we are going to be ‘revamping’ the Attack List Beta to make it…well, Better. As all of you will have no doubt experienced there is some confusion over attacks as the RSE attacks were done before sufficient information on those attacks was available.

So ALL attacks will be given a polish over. There will be nothing drastic, but any fog shall be cleared and every tweak shall be tweaked. This will probably also be incorporated into the Diamond and Pearl attacks when they are released.



The Safari Zone

We may have been promising it for too long now but I kid you not when I tell you the Safari Zone is in its final stages of completion and should be introduced in March. Becca, TBA and I are just finalizing all the little things.

It is set around some fictional locations some of you may recognize and there are some sneaky secrets you might stumble across if you know where to look! Keep your eyes open for some very rare and very strong Pokemon lurking in the depths of the Safari Zone!

Welcome to the March/April edition of ASB News. We've got all the information on the Safari Zone (with some nice little secrets inside) and we'll also be giving you the latest updates on whats happening in ASB!

The Safari Zone

It has launched and to great sucess! Thank you refs for doing a fantastic job so far! I have recieved overwhelmingly posetive feedback from members and I am very happy with the way things are going!

If you're ever visiting Trolgar Mountain, see what awaits you up at the very top of the mountain! I guarentee secrets and surprises sit atop the mysterious climbing space. Lots of wild Pokemon of all species!

Or if you take an electric or steel type to Tranquil Shores you might have a better chance of finding treasure buried deep in the sand!

Furthermore in relation to the opening of the Safari Zone a number of people have unearthed Diamonds. We ask that you keep hold of them for now, and assure you all will be explained soon!




Gym 'Leaders'

We are currently looking to replace 2 of our Gym Leaders with new ones, namely Razor Leaf and Aragornbird. We have people in mind but we as mods are going to just weigh up pros and cons of the candidates before we make a final decision.

New rules may also be in place on Gym Battles to help them move along quicker. At present the minimum Pokemon used is 3 for a Gym Match. This may change.

The Random Tourney
It has begun! At present we have 5 matches up and it looks set to be a successful tourney! Refs please try and be prompt and, if you can, prioritise these matches since the tournament needs to run smoothly!

The other matches will be put up soon as well.


Legendary Tournament?

In the summer we may be implementing a Legendary Tournament! A simple set-up involving the legendary Pokemon of the world would surely be an exciting idea. Obviously species, rules and regulations would need to be sorted but we can expect them to crop up during discussions!


Contests etc all

February is drawing to a close. Thanks River!

March is also drawing to a close, with Andrew VS Weasel Overlord. For March we had a different setup: the Round 2 entrants were paired up and had to work together to make a double appeal! The best pair faced each other for the finals.

Did you like the setup? Should we use it again sometime?

As for April Andrew is hosting it again so expect 100% honesty! Unlimited signups were implemented which turned out to be quite a useful idea that we will definitely consider for all future contests.

Expect the Grand Festival to launch on July 1st like last year! (I hope we can finish this years one before then!!)




D/P Attacks

I am almost done on working the D/P attacks into our Attack List Beta. These attacks will be quite straightforward, but as part of the Attack List Better scheme we are introducing, all RBY, GSC and RSE attacks will be revamped. We will be using this as a chance to change the way some attacks work, the way you can manipulate attacks (ie: Rock Slide but instead of rocks use chairs).

We are going to be much more in-depth with the attacks, helping you as a battler and ref understand to what extent they can be used so there are as few questions as possible. However due to the ambiguity of D/P, the attack descriptions will be as basic as the current ones. This will change over time.

I also suggest you start looking at Pokedexes (I reccomend Serebii's) to help you learn the new attacks.

Diamond and Pearl

As mentioned Diamond and Pearl is being released well...today. However it will not be implemented into ASB until May 1st. This gives those of you lucky enough to have a copy a chance to get familliar with the attacks, Pokemon and new concepts.

On May 1st ASB will have a new look, including:
-New Egg Groups at the Egg Center (as well as new Pokemon obtained from current Eggs)
-New Safari Zone areas (as well as new Pokemon found in current areas)
-The Attack List V2, which will have EVERY attack in alphabetical order. It will also explain to you the damage, fatigue, accuracy and any other aspects of every Pokemon Attack.
-There will be the ASB giveaway, with more details below.


There are also talks of a DP tournament.....although this will not happen for a while.



The Diamond and Pearl Giveaway

On May 1st for one week only there will be a free giveaway in the main ASB. Every member is entitled to a free single-stage or non-evolving Pokemon from Generation 4.

In the topic all you need to do is post and say you would like a Pokemon. Request the species, gender and any other physical features (specific colour, spots, patterns etc). You will then be replied to (by a mod)and the request will be confirmed and you will recieve your Pokemon.

All details will follow and will be fully explained on May 1st. Holders of Diamonds or Pearls (from the Safari Zone) might find themselves in for a surprise!

About time I think! Just a few things really, making sure you guys are all in the loop.


Contests

May and June are winding down. The Grand Festival will only start when the contests are all finished. April's future is being discussed.

The Grand Festival is going to be similar to last years. The 3 behind it have NOT been confirmed yet but I am sending PMs to people. I will more than likely be judging but I am not 100% sure.

It will feature 3 appeal stages and 2 battle stages, but will have a different format than last years.


ANYBODY with a ribbon is eligible to sign up. I anticipate we will have 12-14 places. Signups will be up when the contest season has ended.



Tournaments

The Tiny Tourney has almost finished.

The Random Tourney is moving slowly. Refs and battlers keep checking to make sure your not slowing it down.



The Safari Zone

I will be sending Ref packs out to those who requested them. We do not need any Safari Refs at the moment. But for current refs please make sure you keep a record of when you ref matches and once you post 5, claim your points ASAP to avoid backlogging

I must say I'm pleased with the success of the Safari Zone. Thanks to all refs and entrants for their hard work and commitment.



The Giveaway

It's still around, popular as ever! Also there is a BRAND NEW PROMOTION on eggs: if you buy two you get a third absolutely free! 3 eggs for 2 points? I think that would be a perfect incentive to give away some new gifts!

Or if you want to keep them for yourself, good idea!

This lasts only until July 10th though so do make the most of it!



Reffing

As mentioned int he Reffing Tower we're keeping a closer eye on Refs. If you are displaying a more complex approach to reffing and can handle difficult situations, we may promote you without you having to take the mock battle.

However we will never demote someone without first warning them. This is unlikely to happen very often.

Mock Reffings will also be up more frequently; we are also going to make sure that they are more demanding of you as a referee.

State of the ASB Address

So hey guys! It's been a while since we last had a news update, and there's a lot to say. So let's get going!

It's a Moderator Shakeup!
You've probably noticed by now, but Chris 2.0 is stepping down from position of moderator. We'll all miss you, Chris; in your long tenure here, you've accomplished quite a lot, and you helped keep ASB running smoothly. Feel free to come back at any time, you hear?

In his place, we are promoting River to moderator position. We feel that her experience here, especially in contests, will be invaluable. So, let's all congratulate her! Cheers, River, it'll be good to work with you.

It's a Gym Leader Shakeup!
As Chris is stepping down, he is also forfeiting his position as a Gym Leader. In order to keep the number of Leaders consistent, we are promoting Weasel Overlord to Gym Leader. Good luck!

Additionally, guys, there are a lot of Leaders who are available for battle now. Don't be shy about challenging them! The worst that can happen is that you would lose, and it's not the end of the world.

Well, not much to report here. The Safari Zone is still plugging along, although we could use more (active) refs (Yes, yes, I'm a hypocrite, deal with it). If you want to apply, either post in the Safari Zone topic or message one of the moderators and we'll get you sorted out.

The Random Tournament is also still going... slowly. Just a reminder, guys, if it's your turn to attack, try not to drag your feet on it. :)

The Grand Festival is in its second round and going strong. The illustrious Chris 2.0 is still reffing that for us in what will probably end up being his last reffing job here, so let's hope it goes well.

State of the ASB Address

Hey guys! It's been a while. Big things to report here. *nods* I know it's been quiet around here recently, but hopefully we can get things going again.

The big news this time:

It's a Moderator Shakeup!
Yes, as you've probably heard, River is stepping down from her position as moderator. Additionally, The_Missing_Link has stepped down as well; the eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that she hasn't exactly been in ASB for a while, heh. As a result, we... actually, I suppose I can use the singular here. I am promoting DarkestLight up to modship.

DL and I will split the duties as evenly as we can; expect to see me in charge of the bank in TML's stead, while DL and I will tentatively split responsibility for the contests.

State of the ASB Address

Hi everyone! It's me DL. I'm finally taking enough initiative to post news up so it does not look like I'm coming up with all of these ideas and changes so hectically. I'm going to cover quite a bit so bear with me.

Reffing

I understand that as a community, we've all seem to know what roles we are good and not good at. That's fine, a place like this takes all types. I do however, urge anyone that wants to become a Ref, to try their hand at the Mock Battle and see how they fair. I'll be changing it up in the next couple of weeks, and it will be as challenging as others beforehand.

In the interim, I would like to thank Crazy Elf Boy and Meloveghosts for stepping up and taking quite the commendable number of reffing slots. ASB has been moving at a consistent pace thanks to your help.


Contests

As you can see, I've thrown up two Contests thus far this year, after a largely stagnant period. I hope to be able to consistently provide that service, and I do implore anyone that think they might want to be Contest Judge to try out the Contest Mock Reffings. It's not hard as it looks, and it'll give you a (controlled) creative outlet.

TBH, they're also mush less critical than battle reffings :p


Tournaments

ASB is still pumping out Tournaments, and I'm quite pleased with the results so far. We're still in the First Round of the Legendary Tournament, but Ultimate Charizard and Dragonis have defeated their opponents and are awaiting their next challenges. Everyone's doing a swell job of keeping up, and I'm quite happy about that!

After this Tournament is over, there will be another one. As to what kind of Tournament...well you'll just have to wait and see, but be sure that it will be unique and accessible to everyone. As always, if you have any ideas, shoot me a PM or post it up in the Suggestion topic!!


Move lists

As of now, I've been reffing long enough to know that there are varying degrees of difference between ASB-defined moves and in-game definitions of moves. That's to ensure a better level of balance. Now, I've been forewarned many a time about this, but I feel confident in stating it now.

There will be a complete update to the Move lists-so that they will be combined into one massive Move List. This way you won't need so many links-nor will you need to remember what generation a move came out in. I'm tentatively giving a Fall release for this list, but it may be sooner.

Also, with Platinum on the way, All Platinum move Tutor Moves are accessible on March 22, 2009. There you go.


Moderation

As you've all noticed, Hypotenuse Man has been captured by the Tree Elves of the land of Keebler and won't release him until someone pays their ransom. He did scream "Forget about me! Save yourself" and so...I kinda did. 'Sides, I not givin' no Keebler elf any of MY money... In any event, I am only ONE (hyperactive) man, and so it will take me a little longer to get around to everything. Be sure that I won't tire easily though.

As for a second Moderator, well one is in the wings. After some things are straightened out, I will gladly reveal their identity to you all.

Gym Leaders! Haven't forgot about that either. Once the Second Round of the Tourney is underway-I'll start the Gym Leader hiring process. so don't fret. There'll be plenty to do in ASB in the coming months, and new activities will start to sprout-not only from me, but from you as well.

It's Newsletter day. Actually been kinda anxious to get this started! There's a fair bit to cover, so let's get into it.

Reffing

Mock Reffing will be up later today. Aside from that, there have been very few issues with Ref's lately, as everyone is giving our new Ref's enough time to adjust to our ASB. I understand the necessity for the new Move Lists to come out so we can have a solidified base to work from, but please bear with me on that. I'll be done soon.

As always, talk to yoru ref's if there's a problem, and you'll be able to come to a solution that benefits all parties involved.

Contests

You guys are dong swell in Contests, and in turn, yer helping me judge better. I kinda actually like them now, so I applaud you for making them as fun for me as they are for you.

Tournaments

Our Legendary Tournament is still going-albiet slowly. But there are only two matches left in the first round-meaning the Second tier is only days from being released. You all should get ready to rumble-cause the next match is going to be intense.

Gym Leader Acquisition

So, I've been thinking long and hard on how to select our new Gym Leaders, as well as to see how many we are going to have. I decided that we will return to the full 8 Gym Leaders. Once the Tournament reaches Round 2, we'll begin the selection process.

However. I will tell you there are 4 Gym Slots open.

Uhh...Safari Zone OH!

For the time being Saf Refs, do not have eggs in the Safari Zone. I know it seems logical-but please give me some time. I'm working on something for the zone-and eggs are a part of it.

Besides, stealing an egg is just underhanded. If a parent gives you an egg, they're unfit parents and that' s unacepptable in Pokemon XD. You never see a Pokemon give up an egg. LOL

Movelists

It's about damn time huh! Well you all can now see the new Improved ASB Movelist over in the TOwers. Take some time, familiarize yourself with it. Look over the moves-ask questions. Post questions, help me make it better than the best :O. I'll appreciate all comments. Much thanks to Elf for helping me compile this sucker.


One Rule: Once we all get this Movelist straightened out-All Refs need to know the effects of these moves in all matches onward. K great n_n

Contests

The May Contest is active for sign-ups. Alot fo ya have dove in already, and that's great I'm sure I can think of some simple yet fun things to do for this one. Remember, Reservations are until May 7th! The rules and parameters for the whole contest will be up by then..

Tournaments

Tournament is in Round Two, and 2 of our three Matches are blasting forth. Phoenixsong and Andrew is delayed for extenuating circumstances and I will decide what to do there shortly. But with the way this one is going, who's up for another one?!?!?

We'll see what's in the works for July.

Gym Leader Acquisition

An interesteing question was brought up to me by Knight of Time. Specifically, what happens if after this test run through is complete, we don't have any Gym Leaders-or if we have a lesser number than 8.

Well, when that time comes, we may either decide to pick the person with the best overall Match against a Gym Leader, or we may keep it at whatever number we have (depending on activity levels and what not.) Let's just focus on where we are with matches now.

Again, those of you that wanted to battle Andrew -please be paitent. I will have a solution soon.

Alright. It's June. Guess I should unleash the beast once more.

Reffing

I noticed a severe lack of reffing from May to June. I'm not saddened by it. It's natural-we've hit that crucial final's job time where everyone has to deal with RL in order to somehow continue their existence on TPM to some degree.

I just urge that if you take a leave, and it becomes extended for whatever reason, please just let us know. Or allow the use of Sub refs. It is not fair to have many people wait for the outcome of battles over a period of months. It'll benefit the battlers, the sub-ref (as practice and they may get pints too) and you (you get a break)

Contests

June Contest has slowed quite a bit. It isn't a large contest to begin with, but I really don't think it should have slowed this much. It will finish by July, I'd just like everyone to post in it.

But on the brighter side-we've had 4 Contests in a row! That's really great-means that we have a bunch of Contest loving battlers. Next month is the Grand Festival....and although I'm pretty sure I din;t have an inkling how it works, I will by the end of the month. So get your Contest ideas ready, cause July and August are gonna be filled with all sorts of weird and wacky changes.

Tournaments

This Tournament is almost over. We're in the Final battle and well, we're just waiting for people to post. That's all. So no big whoop there. But any ideas about a new Tournament? Please, let them be known. The only restriction I am going to impose on any more tournaments is the use of the correct numbering system for it. (Doing anything other than 8 or 16 is bad.)

Gym Leader Acquisition

We need one more. That's all. However, we have 5? matches going on right now to see who has enough mettle to be the last Gym Leader. Thanks to both Weasie and MLG, who have been working really hard to help weed out the prospects and find our new Gym Leaders.

By the way-ya'll can challenge the new Gym Leaders now. If you don't now who they are-they're Blademaster, Crazy Elf Boy and Greyfox.

As you may have noticed, I haven't been around at all lately. This is not going to get better in the foreseeable future, so I'm quitting as mod. DL and MLG will keep things running smoothly in my stead, so... yeah. I'll still be around from time to time; I just figure ASB needs someone who can actually do stuff. Yeah.

Consistent. Keep up the good work. Summer has us all doing stuff too, so the slowdown is actually appreciated-just means you come back with stories to tell n_n

Contests

The Grand Festival has started, and its...going slow. Cause people are away. That's ok. The Mid Tier and High Tier sections will be posted within the week-when I stop being so narcoleptic. But please, post in the Low Tier Contests if you are a participant in them, there's no reason for you to dawdle with those.

If you still want to ref any of the Contests, feel free to just post in it saying you'll ref and well, take it from there. I definitely don't mind splitting up the labor!

Summer

Really hope everyone's enjoying the sun where ever they are. Not much sun in NY-its barely broke 87 here and its pissing me off. But that just means I need to travel more!

September. Labor Day in the US too! Well let's get to it!!

Reffing

My apologies for not being around. But everyone has taken great leaps and bounds in keeping this place alive-whether its been recruiting folk to join, grabbing an extra reffing or even making sure your battles finish. Summer's always a slow seson and we appreciate the input you were able to provide!

Fall's coming fast so I do expect activity to rise. No worries though, I'll be back up to full reffing strength in no time!


Contests

The Grand Festival...is still alive. I know its hits a HEAVY slow down, but I'll keep it going. No Sept contest will be issued, but October will have a new one. So everyone in the Festival-don't fret. We'll make a major leap and bound soon.

Gym Leaders

I believe the last of the Gym Leader matches are over and done with, and that leaves us with 6 Gym Leaders. MLG, Elf, Weasel, Blade, Grey and myself. Andrew is leaving us, and so that makes a seventh active Gym, entrusted to Chris 2.1 and I. So in a weird way-Chris is also a Leader without needing complete dedication :P


So go on and challenge us, s'no prob at all.

Reffing

As per my announcement in the Chat, I'm picking up reffings like a madman. I'm also clearing space in my calendar for a few extra things in the coming months that you all voiced concern and ideas over. But for now, rest assured that your battles will be completed by our competent refs, and that a new Mock Battle will be up 12/1


Contests

November's Contest is winding down, Ocotber's Contest finished and well, that just leaves December. December's Contest is going to have a bit of a throwback attached to it, so let's just see how that goes.

In any event, many kudos to Blade for making the badges of the Contests this year-they've all been excellent and I for one am glad that you take the time to do such a thing for us.

Gym Leaders

Well now. We got out Gym Leaders, and Elf is hard at work making a Gym Badge Case for you all to hold your badge in with pride. Hell, I even got challenged, which is rare enough. But --ehehehe---

something of a moderate size will happen once 12/1 hits for all Gym Leaders....so it may be beneficial to see what's up about that. Might be worth your while to clear your battle queue's as well.

Well, MLG's been working pretty damn hard don'tcha think. If ya disagree well I'd agree with ya :P Naa not really, he's taken a real good shine to the inner workings more so now and well, he's everywhere I'm not. I'm thankful for that.

Upcoming!

New Section. And there is a BUNCH to fill it in with. As per your suggestions in the Suggestion Topic (all of them, I've been taking notes), I have constructed a timeline on which MLG and I will discuss, and try to implement each thing that we feel will be feasible to the continued survival and thriving of ASB as a whole (which is damn near all of them).

There are going to be alot of minor changes in the near future that I hope are looked upon with an open mind. Some may stick, some may not, but hell, at least we can try to make them work as a community.

The first thing that is on our checklist is: Abilities! As of now I've written up a list of Abilites-what they naturally do, and what I think they should do in ASB without being too overpowered. I will post this list as its own seperate post in the B&T forum within the next 48 hours, to which you all can sound off and tweak and voice opinions on them. But I do have one rule I'm going to manifest about Abilities.

Abilities are NOT going to be mandatory. They will be an extension that can be opted out of, in order to lower or raise difficulty of matches.

I know for a fact there are some that oppose the idea of Abilities even remotely touching us. At the same time, I feel it is not fair for us to selectively create an ASB that only works with what WE want it to work it without trying everything first off. Everything should be given a chance so we can see what we could do to make it work, or we could see that it wouldn't work at all. But at least we would witness it.Alright , back to lightheartedness.

December is almost here, and so that means the sleigh bells are a ringing. I hope yer ready!! I know I've been saving my points for this time of year :D! Only a few more days til its here, Oh I'm so EXCITED :D!!!

We also have-as per the revival and rejuvenation of Pokemasters as a whole, a need to create a distinctive ASB Banner has arisen. So if you have any suggestions/drawings to submit for it, please, share them with the world. Hell, I'ma sweeten the pot.

The person who's banner is chosen to represent ASB receives a free catch. Booya. There. I did it. I wanna see ASB as Awesome Style Battling, damnit. Make people roll here in droves. Bring out the creativity I see in your battling.

December has been a reflective month, with lots of ideas coming from you, our slaves, and the modsquad who's devine power transforms your ideas into something that we take credit for! We worked on some stuff in our secret hideout and this is the result.

Teasers and new Shit!

Stone(r) - Shop: Yes, we're opening up a Stone Shop on the first of january! Not Thunder, Water or Fire, but original evolution stones. Stones grant the pokemon exposed to their power an evolution; making a difference between a Small Stone and a Large Stone.

Small Stone costs 6 points and can evolve a basic-pokemon into a stage 1 pokemon. Large stones evolve stage 1 pokemon, and cost 8 points. I use Polymarization and fuse my Stone shop with my Egg Center to create: DL's shiny magic place. Real name coming january first!

Egg center: DL's cooking tha eggz, and even more so next year! Next year, more crazy promotions and manipulating diseases will plague the egg-center. 50% more chance on Ice-pokemon in a Hydro-egg in january? More chance on a love-pokemon in Plain-egg on valentinesday? Higher chance on black pokemon during Martin Luther King day? DL's got it all and is ready for you. Starting new year!

Abilities: All the abilities have been finished and are ready for testing. DL will put up the finished version of the list after this Newsletter and this comes with a request. We want each of you guys to try out abilities by using them in ONE of your matches. Then by the end of the year we can gather the opinions of you battlers, you refs, and you watchers out there and get the system complete, before unleashing it on you, for realz!

The abilities will be optional in battle, so not mandatory, for those who still want to battle without them.

Ladder: You all heard a strange alcoholic talk about a ladder-system? No, you're not on drugs, it's true! Our secret hideout has been crowded for the past week plotting this scheme. The system is almost adjusted perfectly and if everything goes well then we can have that ready for next year! More information to come, probably in a seperate topic because that looks cool and important.

Elite 4: We have gymleaders yes. Are they good? Yes. Well, here's an easy system to show other people that you're just as good or even better. You can become one of the Elite 4 of ASB, but you'll have to work for it. Hard. Information on this new battle-fetish will come with the ladder. Watch out for that.

Towers: Me and DL going to do some smashing, some building and some re-construction. Stay clear of construction, you might hurt yourself. Check out new City-Center on newyearsday!

Season-gratitude: Yes, four times a year (every three months), starting in March (after the first three months of the new year) we're going to have a ref and month of the season! Wanna know how to get it? Stay in line or I'll kick your ass.

Safari Zone-changes: Yes sir, we mods can do it all, no doubt about that. Watch us as we pimp up the Safari Zone to fit 2010; ASB's most awesome year ever.

Movelist: The ASB move-list shall be completely finished on the first of january. That way we can get rid of the crummy title-topic :D

I've seen a lot of people in the reffing tower, trying out the mock contest. Rookies and other rankings alike. That's good! Seriously, thanks to you refs this place can remain as active as it is today, and even more in the future. Glad to have you in our community.

Contests

DL's doing all the contests for now, but don't be discouraged to try reffing them yourself. Not all contest have to be big ones. You can arrange 4-player contests aswell, choose what kind of appeal you want, choose how many pokemon contending, choose how many out at a time; normal, double, super, hyper appeals? everything is possible!

To go along with the Battle-reffing, we got a little extra for you contest-refs.

When you finish 2 Contests you get, aside from the basic 4 points, the choice between a Small Stone and a free egg; or a Large Stone. Finish 3 Contests and get a Ribbon that will allow you entrance into next years Grand Festival (limited spots this time). When you finish 5 contests, you a 10 point jackpot!

Also, don't forget that contests count for a reffing on your reffing-sheet aswell.

Gym Leaders

More gym-matches are finished or on the way. That's good. I already saw that Mike Mysterio is going after gymleaders, one by one. You won't be stopping me there Mike, but you can try the rest! Actually, CEB made a big shiny badges-box where you can add in the badges as you win them. So be cool and start battling those gymleaders.

Teasers and new Shit!

Stone(r) - Shop: Well, its open, as all have noticed. Which is pretty cool, considering most of us are now battling hard to evolve Pokemanz. I know I'm going to need to buy a bunch soon, But speaking of that..

Egg center: I may as well post this here. I wasn't too busy about the Incubation Station but for this year..there will be random Egg drops. They'll still cost the same, but they'll be special in a way.

All proceeds of random Egg deal drops will be going to something...awesome :D!!!

Well, to be fair, let me state the first one now. if you buy a Hydro Egg during 1/16/10 and 1/20/10, you will hatch a Pokemon that is part Ice sometime during its evolutionary life. You can buy a max of eggs a a day for this deal. Yes you can buy 8 eggs total over the 4 days.


Abilities: Well, after years of debating them, Abilities are up and running and for the most part...ASB has not crumpled to the ground. Like I expected. We have some stiucky situations-but those are worked on and I think as a whole, you all stuck to your guns about making them work without being superfluously overpowered. So, hats off to ya.

I'm sure there still will be snags, but things are running much smoother than before

Ladder: Ladder is chugging along, what are your thoughts so far. I wanna know!! I haven't had a ladder match yet, but I'm working on it. Im just prety psyched everyone took to it so danged fast.

Towers: Well, that's done and done. New Decade, new set. Thanks to MLG for all his demolition and diligence in keeping this place up to snuff while I relax a bit. Been weird not having to work so hard.

Season-gratitude: <---MLG still hasn't explained this to ya. I'm sure he will soon :O

ASB NEWS UPDATE

Incubation Station: Ting Ding! We have a promotion starting on April 1st, no joke, and running until the 15th. Grass/Ground eggs will be more likely to hatch Grass pokemon, so all you grass-lovers out there, abuse the promotion! Also, evolution stones are still available for non-expierenced pokemon.

Abilities: Well actually, they seem to run fairly well. Still, if there are any questions don't hesitate to PM me or DL!

First catch list: Kyle finisihed the first catch list I started a few years back, so thank you Kyle for that. So if you're interested in eternal fame and glory in our ASB, check out what spots are still open.

Ladder: Yes, for all you competing in the Ladder. Switches to your team can be made from April 1st to 7th. Just post in the Ladder topic and let us know.

Ref and Member of the Season: Our first winner for Ref of the season is Knight of Time! You've proven yourself to be a good and consistent ref this season, well done. Member of the Season goes to Oslo this time; you're a welcome addition to our ASB, you battle well and you just approved as a ref, so try for Ref of the Season next time! Both of you get three points and a Free Catch or Evolution at Approval Tower.

Reffing

Times are busy, but I've seen a few applications in the Reffing Tower so things will pick again no doubt. Thanks to all the refs who are hanging in there!

Contests

Again thanks to Mew Master for doing the latest contest and proving that there are no limits to what contest you can do. Might aswell do one myself.. Damn.

Don't forget the contest rewards: When you finish 2 Contests you get, aside from the basic 4 points, the choice between a Small Stone and a free egg; or a Large Stone. Finish 3 Contests and get a Ribbon that will allow you entrance into this years Grand Festival (limited spots this time). And when you finish 5 contests, you get a 10 point jackpot!

Contests count for a reffing on your reffing-sheet aswell.

Tower of the Ascended

Mike is still on his path of collecting all gym-badges and I can't blame him! Still, the gymleaders records are up in the Tower of the Ascended so check it out. Also, challenge Blade, he's been in a killer mood ever since he got appointed. He's already proven his worth in the All-comers challenge so far. So beat him!

State of the ASB Address

Hello all. May is in, and that's great. Allergies are gonna be gone pretty much altogether, summer's rolling in (Winter for you folks down unda) and I actually start reffing a bit more because that time of year is fast approaching!

Reffing

So. How're we doing. Reffing tower is getting some use finally, which is great. Tower of the Ascended hasn't done too bad in terms of reffings. I can tell you what I am thinking though. I'm thinking that its gonna be a good summer with the way battles are moving. Yeah some are slow, but with people coming back now, it will pick up to a good gait. Yay for that.

Also Ref/Member of the Season: Spring Edition ends in June, so keep at it. We're watching you o.o...MLG watches you when he's naked though, so be wary though.


Contest/Tournament?

Wow. We haven't had a contest all year. Nor had we any inkling of a Tournament. WelL, all that's about to change. Yessir, we're going to either have a Grand Festival or a Tournament! But-unlike decisions in the past, your Mod-team alone is going to decide which one will it be.

Unless of course, you think that's unfair, to which you can send your reasoning to MLG or I in PM.

Randomness/Moderation

Yeah so this section is new. Mainly 'cause MLG's getting a bunch of cheap shots at me lately in these NL's and I haven't the chance to counter.

Heald's gonna do some ladder Sprucing, and I am going to open up a few reffing slots. Check for them. We kinda want the Ladder to have a proper run, just to see how things are, feelings, adjustments, stuff like that.

Reffing

I've seen a boost, a spurt, a blessing! ASB is alive folks, and we're telling ya! Refs are doing a great job keeping the place going, so an honest and well placed thank you is the right thing to do. Along with the thank you, I'm gonna thank one ref even more. Yes it's june, that means a half year has passed and we're on our second Ref of the season! Congrats, DarkestLight! You've always been a good and solid ref, but you've been taking up loads of reffing these last months (like you said in last newsletter), including Tourney! You don't need them, but earn them anyway: here's three points and a free catch/evolution!

Aside from that, new Mock-battle and Mock-contest are up for grabs in the reffing tower. Try out your chance on promotion!

Contest

In response to Ayeun's question: contests count as a succesful reffing, so you can just put them on the reffing-list. Aside from that, extra rewards are here for you contest refs! If you ref a contest with 1-4 you get two extra points after completing it, 4 points for a contest with 5-8 people, 6 points for 9-12 and 8 points for 13-16. ON TOP OF THAT, you get a free Small Stone for completing two entire contests, and a free Large Stone or 8 points for completing three contests. Now how's that for starters.

I've also seen DL running around with loads of ribbons, murmering something about a festival, something grand. Is he excentric or nuts?

Tournament

Holy jezus fricking chirst, this tourney is hot! Hot, fast, full of explosions and fireworks! You people are tha bomb, rocking this tourney so hard. Seriously, the tourney is going great and I would like to thank everyone battling, reffing or just spectating! People who already moved to round two are Knight of Time, Mike Mysterio and DarkestLight. I'm curious about the finale... :D

Tower of the Ascended

Moderation

Yeah, DL and I've been busy trying to sort out our ASB here, trying to implement things that are unique and refreshing. While most of that work gets done in places you don't even wanna hear about, it's getting done, and that's the most important thing. The ladder is ending for this half year on June 30th! We didn't get as much participaters as we thought, but money was a big problem in januray. Referees!

Thank to Elf, we've come up with a dynamic new way of updating the Safari Zone. Starting today-we will split up the Zone into Ref quadrants. Meaning each Ref will have their own thread for the Zone. You sign up in the main Safari Zone Thread still-and a Ref will come along and take your quest. You then post in the designated thread. This will (hopefully) alleviate confusion/wait times and make for a more qualitative Zone in which people may discover more than previously imagined.....

Contests!

We're seeing a consistent rise in Contests and that's always welcome. Special thanks to Ayeun and Mew Master for hosting them-and don't be shy folks. They're not hard to do. You can practice with the mock reffing we have up and we'll be glad to help you with any questions you may have.


Tournaments!

Well! The Tournament is over, with Blademaster taking it all at the very end. A very healthy pot as well, 76 points I believe? Congratulations Blade. The runner up, Ultimate Charizard, also had an outstanding show. Thank you everyone that participated, and we'll be sure to have a new Tournament up and running for the winter season. I'm sure by then you'll have your hands full with the other things coming this fall.

Oh yes, Summer is winding down. But that does not mean we haven't been watching you all. We have our pick for Ref and Member of the Summer Season, and it goes to Greyfox and Ayeun !!

Grey has been very consistent with his Reffings this quarter, and quite possibly all year, and we really do appreciate the effort.

Ayeun has been consistently striving to keep activity at a good clip, with her energy to start contests, keep battles alive and her passion toward finishing her own fights.

New Stuff!!


Here's that section that you all have been drooling over. All those suggestions you all have had, well here are the ones that are coming to light thus far.

Pokeathlon: The concept is sound-and we will try to implement this soon. Mew Master is trying a test run of the Speed aspect, so feedback would be good (just PM him). The others will follow shortly, so suggestions are welcome.

Gym Leaders/Elite 4: The 6 Gym Leader thing is working well, and they're putting up with a lot of challenges. However, we do seem lacking in even stiffer competition, don't we?

Hence we have now chosen whom shall be in the Elite 4. This has been an time-consuming effort in which we've looked over not just the current Gym leaders records, but the records of most the other ASB community, and their level of participation and overall activeness. There are stipulations to being a E4 member...and here's one of them.

The Elite Four have the distinction of being able to Battle for Gym badges (better qualifying them for their position.), and Gym Leaders battling for Elite Four Status. More information can be found in the Tower of the Ascended (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20170), where the names of the Elite Four are revealed.

Now, prolly the biggest one...

Legends: It has come to our attention for many a time now(but moreso cause of the latest damn episodes in the Anime) that Legends are being used more and more. To the point where common people seem to whip them out all willy nilly. So, your fabulous Mod team plus helpers have worked arduously hard in figuring a way for you to attain these creatures.

It won't be easy, but everyone has a chance to get a few Legendaries-while others are still off limits. A few have been spotted in the Safari Zone, in random- not easily accessible-areas. Don't expect them to be captured on the first go round either, it might take a while for you to catch them too. A list will be up shortly pointing out what Legends are available in the Zone, and this list will grow in time. More information will be revealed soon.

Referees: Just a reminder. If you need to take a break, please don't leave your matches without any notice. If the break gets long, alert the folks waiting that a Sub-ref may be their best bet. This way we don't have matches taking years to complete.

Misc:

Now, I've been hearing talk and offshoots about Gambling needing to be allowed in ASB. I'm going to say now that any direct gambling on ASB matches will not only be terminated on sight, but the match will be void and the participants will be deducted 10 points per allocation. That said, there has been rumblings about a Casino that uses ASB points being created in the Games section of the forum as a whole...We just need a few more permits and zoning rights to be legalize...err finaliz... worked out.

Also. do not forget about all the Fanart work available. Customize and legitimately make a badass banner for your team! Over in Fanart you can request a banner from Crazy Elf Boy, or a picture of your Pokemon from Mew Master/Crystal Tears (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=21311), or the collaboration of Asilynne/Mystic Clown and Blademaster. Please, I implore everyone to take a look at each of their work and support our artists. These are all great ways to further showcase your teams might or skill out in new and very imaginative ways :O.

Welcome beloved servants, for another fabulous report from your local modsquad. Let's talk a bit, shall we?

New members

Flapjackal, Trikejacob, tbh1313, Amped, you all get two points for starting here in our ASB. Have fun!

Reffing

Referees have been swamped with (real life) work these last month, but this is a typical september/october thing; we see it every year. However, this is not that negative. Getting a chill once in a while kinda brings back your spirit for ASB (atleast it does with me), so take a break once in a while guys but always let us know through the Absence Tower. That way your in the clear for both DQ's and reffings and everybody is up to date. ktnxbai :D

About the Safari Zone, the seperate-thread change has been tested and accepted now and most people seem content with the current situation, but a few changes have yet to be made. Me and DL discussed this for a while and here are our conclusions:

From now on, safrefs will have a maximum number of quests that they can take. If you're a rookie ref you're allowed a max of two quests in your thread. Three for Intermediate, four for Advanced and Master refs can take five or more challenges.

When claiming points, you only have to lin to the start-post of the safari adventure and the last round reffed. Then DL is gonna work his black magic and check out everything (so no thousand links anymore). Thank you black santa!

Next, safari refs are free to show legendaries as they see fit, but his/her challenger can only catch one. So you can see a thousand Legends, but only catch one (per game).

Further more, legends get more attacks as the number of opponents increase. When the legend is battling a pokemon one on one, it gets the standard three attacks. It gets four though, when fighting two opponents, and five when fighting three opponents. This evens out the number difference. And yes, they still got 150HP and EN.

Area-connectivity: Yes, your takers can travel to other area's, but that might take a few posts. Teleporting ofcourse, nullifies that. Be creative and make it worth while!

DISCLAIMER: Pokeballs can break people (by strong enough attack), and you don't get your money back! So be careful when throwing them out, get the pokemon asleep, trapped, hold down with a psychic attack, or anything else that might come up in your wicked, perverted, scary minds. Foolz!


Contests

Yeah, it's a whole different aspect, but it's coooool. Don't be shy people, hosting a contest isn't that difficult, so give it a go with our mock-contest, or if you have already done it, your own contest! It doesn't have to be big if you don't wanna, just go with a nice theme and enjoy the creation of art, pokemon-art! *twirls*

Tower the Ascended

So this is it. The E4 have been decided and this is the final order (unless they challenge eachother for re-ordering rights):

1. Ultimate Charizard
2. Blademaster
3. MeLoVeGhOsTs
4. Greyfox

So this means that if you wanna challenge the Elite Four, you'll need to beat UC first, then Blade, then me, then Grey. Challengers will have to use a set team of 6 pokemon that they can't change for the entire E4 runthrough.

That means, with me, Grey and Blade being in E4 now, that we have three new and fresh Gymleaders that will be giving your pokemon a run for their money! Say welcome to Mew Master, Ayeun and Dogfish44! Their gyms and badges (and the arenas for E4) will be displayed in the Tower of the Ascended as the entire Tower gets restyled.

Gymleaders who which to challenge E4 must have beaten four challengers first. E4 who want to challenge eachother can do so for re-ordering rights, but they match can be no more than a two on two, to keep it speedy.

Misc.

- Pokeathlon, Casino, and more crazy ass ideas are being thought up, tested and analyzed. Don't come near the lab, 'cause Darkly got some crazy ass dog/toad hybrids that will smack you up. Shooty tongues with hair!

- A free evolution doesn't need expierence!

- Pinks battles are allowed. PINKS-battles are battles in which the winner takes the pokemon that fought in the battle.

State of the ASB Address


Well now. It's been another year in ASB, and December has finally rolled upon us. Usually, there's talk of parties, and events and all sorts of grand things to end the year off...

Why should this be any different :D! Let's get it on!

Reffing:

ASB refs are down and out. Guess all that pushing in the late Summer finally caught up with is huh? We lost a huge amount of activity from ya'll and I can't say that its not expected. I mean hey, times change right. But now's the time when we can finish this year off on a high note and keep it rolling through 2011. I mean hey, we do have a new generation looming just around the corner....

So, until everyone gets things together, I'll try to hold down a substantial number of reffings and hopefully will get most of these done by 1/1 (depending on posting frequency, of course). I'm sure all the other refs that are available will do the same, I'm not asking you for any more than what you can handle. Celebrations

After a long sitdown with MLG about the state of affairs here, we've decided to do something that actually seems long overdue. Greyfox is now a HeadRef. As such, he'll be the go-to guy for Reffing Tower duties and concerns. Also he is the guy you hanker around for your Mock Reffing reviews. Ironically enough, Greyfox is our Ref of the Season :D Hooray Grey! That also leaves the Member of the season, whom happens to be none other than papabopp :o Good work there, and I hope you keep it up.

Legend Acquisition

For all the years we've been wishy washy on Legends, I must say there is not that much hoopla about it after all. These words will haunt me soon enough, I know it.

Tournaments

So, I'm going to set up a Tournament Sign up sheet. Its only going to have 8 slots. I'm not going to say when it will be set up. I'm not going to say what type of Tournament it will be. All I will say is that it will force you to only use a maximum of 2 Pokemon. So. Keep your eyes open. That's all there is for that. :P

Gyms

With this lull in activity, Gym Matches have kinda stalled. Poor E4, guys got nothing to do huh? *Yawn* Maybe we should set up a gauntlet for you folks, lil team up versus inactive Gym Leaders... or a lil' Round Robin faceoff? We'll decide what's in store for you guys so you don't just have a rank. Be ready.

Misc

Casino is almost done. Calm down. We'll make sure you can spend your money soon enough. People getting large amounts, we're definitely gonna hafta cut them down.

State of the ASB Address

I'm going to get into it, 'cause as always, there's alot to cover.

Reffing

REF! ASSEMBLE!! Hell attendance assemble, people have been down and out. Can't blame ya, its February! Schools restarted-and weather is acting all sorts of weird. Slow is slow. But lemme just wet yer palate with a few happenings, so when everyone comes back, you all will be ahead of the game.

Celebrations

Why are we celebrating? Because the Contests are back. Its heading into round two, and it's getting really creative. The Tournament is move at a great clip too, as the Semi finals are coming up! :D. We already know three of the 4 competitors, who will be the fourth!

We also have a few new members since the last NL. ambasaur, RODAN and jelibean man all get 2 points for starting out in our ASB! (If I missed anyone, don't hate me, I'm a little slow on the uptake...)


Gyms

Well the Gyms have seen some movement. We got an average of two Gym Battles a month-which is good, considering the downturn before the uprising which is almost here! Good luck to Mike Mysterio and chaos_redefined!

Black/White News!!

Well, saved the best for last. There are a few B/W changes to ASB that you-the public-should know about. This is to prepare you and us for the new onslaught that will undoubtedly encapsulate us.

First off. There has been a meteor shower that has covered the entirety of the Safari Zone. (I've openly stated it in my quests. You don't have to, just know it has occurred.). This shower has had a few shards land here and there in the Zone.

These shards can be White in color. Or Black...or Black and white. That's all.

Second off, we are now introducing Tokens. Tokens are small coin shaped emblems that can be purchased from us for a price. 15 points, to be exact. Now, why would you pay 15 points for a Token?

Because anyone that buys a Token can get
1) a B/W Pokemon (first form)
2) evolve their B/W Pokemon once
3) Change any Pokemon's ability once!

Tokens do not go on sale until March-and they won't be on sale long either. So you may want to finish up those battles you may have left hanging.

Misc

Hrm. Let me quell a few rumors and smaller events I've been meaning to discuss-and a few changes.

1) Yes. New Abilities are compiled. For the most part, most are not broken at all.

1a) Yes, Stall is still being worked on. Sorry for the wait. Stall breaks a bunch of shizzle.

2) Yes. Moves are completed-and some are even added to the movelist already. As B/W has not come out yet, these moves are not to be used. They are all subject to change as the games come out, but we feel we've done them a great deal of justice.

3) For SZ refs-I want to know if you have made any progress at all in the type/s you've chosen for the Zone. Also want to remind you all that not all Pokemon are attainable in the Zone.

4) A new quirk for B/W. Sleep Talk is NOT a TM anymore. Therefore, since that can horribly harm a B/W exclusive Pokemon, we've decided that all B/W Pokemon know Sleep Talk instinctively. If by some change a Move Tutor list comes out with Sleep Talk being able to be learned by them all, this clause will then be removed!

This is not something to be taken lightly. We really had to think about this. You all picked your abilities from the available pool at the time, and knew it was non negotiable deal. Now with the onset of new ones, we know that there are going to be a few that have ridiculously new and powerful ones. (who the HELL gave Ninetales Drought needs to be shot) At the same time, we did not want to renig our stance on keeping the specifics on Pokemon obtaining as they were.

This way we figured, yeah its a high amount, but at the same time, you can change it as long as you have a Token, since this changes a fundamental aspect of your Pokemon quote unquote, forever. More will be explained in the giveaway, and it may not be as expensive as it seems.

Changing abilities of old pokemon into new ones should cost A LOT. It's not like you can change your haircolor at will aswell. New pokemon can get the new abilities as easy as gingerbread, but old pokemon are 'set'. Changes can be made, but'll cost ya.

Ex 1.) I look back to my cartridges. I can't transfer my Whipper (Venusaur) from the Original Red to Fire Red. If there was way, it would be a shitton of money to buy/create a converter that allowed transfers from Oldred to FireRed.

EX 2.) You're telling me its cheap to get a new heart? Assistance limb? Hell even dentures cost a ton of cash. These are fundamental parts of you. The same goes for your Pokemon. These abilities (though introduced in Gen 3) have stuck with your crew since.

EX 3: MLG is right. I am in agreeance that 15 points is a harsh contrast to everything we've tried to make affordable to everyone, but at the same time, these Pokemon have been with you guys forever. You've battled with them in so many facets, but as soon as something new comes out, you wanna switch them at the drop of a hat?

I couldn't change Muddy at all (Dunsparce). No way no how. Dun care if he got some super ability that let his prowess double upon being hit

(Holy shit. No I'm dead serous he really gets that, didn't even know. I got curious and looked up 'Sparce and he gets Self Conscious, funny XD). No way. Muddy is Muddy and he's awesome the way he is.

Stones cost 6 to 8 points, and this helps evolve Pokemon that don't even USE stones to evolve. Yes, their bodies were gonna change anyway, you just accelerated it. But this is something that doesn't/shouldn't change, and yer upset 'cause you have to pay double to do so?

Hell even when you played Diamond or Pearl, and sent your Pokemon over to Pal Park you only had a ~50% chance of having your Pokemon pop out with a second Ability. (Took me like 22 tries before I got a Magic Guard Clefable w/Softboiled-ugh the drama.)

This immediate backlash doesn't sound like you actually care about them at all up to the point of sticking by your choices that you made years before this new ability sweep came through. I want you all to think about that. You're only seeing the immediate cost of this to "better" yourself and using the "close bond" issue as a defense. That is not sound because you're changing a fundamental aspect of them-changing them to fit your needs instead of treating them as they are despite the new changes.

My honest advice:

Take! your! time! Yes, 300 points is alot to change 20 Pokemon. Try switching 45. 60. hell, try 100. Yeah its alot of cash. Yeah I seem jaded because I hoard points like a madman and can actually buy a shitton of tokens-but at the same time, I really don't think its fair to switch abilities at all just because new ones came out.

But at the same time, we're going to make sure that over time, you WILL be able to eventually get what you feel you need to keep up with the times.

Like I said. Over the next few months, there will be a series of events that will help you all gain chances to change abilities. Some'll be cheaper than others. This is the most expensive-and its also one that is not going to be around very long.

Secondly, its also a way for us to foster activity -.-. You want this badly, you work on it. You don't get better at anything just by buying the best things, 'cause people still defeat you with older methods and you're then left sitting there wondering how you still lost when you have all this brand new shiny stuff!

Trust us, this is not as bad as it seems. You all gave everything a chance before, give us a shot to show you this won't be as bad as it sounds. We haven't let you down yet,and I positive we won't start now.

In the same vein, some other abilities are changing their function a bit (Sturdy comes to mind), so primary Abilities that get a bit of a tweak are not as deeply changed as switching to an all new ability (ie. Plastic surgery for a scar on your face versus a new arm).

Old stall vs new stall is a rather notable change, in all versions you have presented so far. As I said, I'm not complaining that you are making that change, though. I recognize that old stall is a bit much.

While I am unaware of your other planned changes, the change in stall does not fall under your comparison to plastic surgery vs prosthetic limbs. The things they affect are fundamentally different. Old stall affects posting order while new stall affects stats. It's as close as a comparison as between Ninjask and Shedinja. Sure, they both are somewhat related (name in case of stall, Nincada and the bug type in the case of Ninjask/Shedinja), but that's about it.

You're already giving me a prosthetic leg. I'm asking for a different one. That's what my case comes down to.

Yeah Ima hafta point out that Ninjask and Shedinja both come from the same evolutionary line which makes them super related, not somewhat. Thats like saying Jolteons and Flareons are not related even though they come from the same base form :/ Shenaaaanigans.

Old Stall: Old leg. Works a little too well, gives you unfair advantage in running. Had a disclaimer that it would be fixed as soon as a replacement came along.

New Stall: New version of older leg, more equal in maneuverability than old one-course old one seems better, it was borked in the first place.

Altogether different ARM: Does something unlike the legs, cause its an ARM. Stall both old and new, deal with movement speed wise within the battle-whether always going last or equaling out so no one has an advantage.

Thieving/Mischievous heart changes so that all non attack moves get to be priority-thereby doing something completely different. It gives you a weird advantage somewhat in situations, rather than complete a) trumping or b) negating (both of which are similar because they both completly do something to give Sableye as a being some help speed wise, not just affect its moves..) Therefore, its neither a nor b, making it a complete different scenario altogether that doesn't fit with either (in as such it only work for non attacking moves, making it work with only *half*(rough guess) of Sableye's moves, making it hugely situational in every round rather than a noted effect upon bringing it in.

That sounds convoluted, I realize. Just had to get it out of my head so I can look at it in digitized form.


All of this is pure talk however, because-as stated before- there will be a crapton more ways to get new Abilities to your Pokemon. At least 3 come to mind. All with varying degrees of prices and time durations. When the Giveaway is fully explained in what, 11 days, (gawd that soon?), things can all be squared away.

There will be more opportunities. This wouldnt be ASB if there weren't.

State of the ASB Address

Wow, been a while since there's been News. Actually, there's not too much to cover, just a bit of a overview to help out some of our newer folks.

Reffing

Well, with the reintroduction of some older members, and the influx of new and motivated talent, ASB has seen a surge in activity. We hope this trend continues throughout the upcoming summer-but we need not get ahead of ourselves. This is still May-rainy as it may be on the Eastern Coast.

I wanted to personally thank everyone for reffing as much as they have, it seems the flow of battles has been evenly matched with passionate refs.

Events

Well, if you came into ASB between the last Newsletter and today, and you haven't already claimed them-each new member receives two points upon starting out. You can link to this Newsletter as proof of statement.

Secondly, there will be a contest in June, as well as a Tournament. Details are soon to follow. Despite this announcement, if anyone wishes to start an contest-please feel free to do so (assuming of course, you took the Contest Mock Reffing...)


Gyms

The Gym Battles are heating up! We may even have a challenge for the E4 soon. If you have noted in the Tower of the Ascended, the requirements has changed slightly to approach them-the most notable is that you need 4 Gym Badges total.

4. That's not so bad, having a little bit of leeway with whom you fight. You also get the prospect of obtaining a TM. Yes folks, we have introduced Move Tutors. If you take the time to look over each Gym's outline, you can read over what moves are available from each Gym Leader.

As such, which ever Pokemon on your team that participates in the Gym Battle has the chance to learn this move. Only 1 Pokemon may learn it, and this must be clearly posted in your VS seeker so it's not seen as a complete botched move on your part. A committee will also review if said Pokemon can feasibly learn it (We understand some moves may not be compatible with some Pokemon at all, like Synthesis on Mightyena....). So take the time to read over the ToTA and see what "new" moves you may want one of your party members to know.

As extra incentive to the GYM LEADERS-I'm going to add a nice little stipulation. From now until the End of Summer-each time you successfully defend your Gym from a challenger, you get the chance to upgrade one of your Pokemon's Abilities, if you haven't already. This way, it won't be easy, but it won't be hard either.

Now, this is all great news, but I think the Elite 4 need some action. So, I propose that the Elite 4 get to work finishing up their Teams and Move Tutors so people can get an idea of what they're up against!

Point Adjustment

Now. Point adjustment. There's been a little breakdown in how matches are attributed points. Single Matches are fine and dandy, but Tag Team and Melees always came with a nice standard confusion about them. So we took the time to fix this up.

Here are the new point totals for Tag Matches.

For a Tag Team where it is Two trainers:
2 per team: Winner 4 pts; Loser 2 pts, Ref 4 x 1.5 = 6 pts.
3 per team: Winner 6 pts; Loser 3 pts; Ref 6 x 1.5 = 9 pts.
4 per team: Winner 8 pts; Loser 4 pts; Ref 8 x 1.5 = 12 pts.
5 per team: Winner 10 pts; Loser 5 pts; Ref 10 x 1.5 = 15 pts.
6 per team: Winner 12 pts; Loser 6 pts; Ref 12 x 1.5 = 18 pts.

This raises the point total for all involved and hopefully gives incentive to refs for taking on these more complex matches.

For a Tag Team where it is 4 Trainers in the match, cut the earnings in half for each winner and loser.


Misc

As for this section, I'm going to keep it open to questions and quirks I've been noting. Only see one this far.

1) From Ayeun: How much is it currently to change a Pokemon's Ability?
Well: Currently, there is no way to do so, as Tokens are off the market for the time being. When they do come back, you can bet they will still be the same price.

Unless of course, something occurs where Abilities become ridiculously easier to obtain...like winning 200 coins in the casino...or reffing two contests in a row... or defending a Gym...*whistle*

2) A new quirk for B/W. Sleep Talk is NOT a TM anymore. Therefore, since that can horribly harm a B/W exclusive Pokemon, we've decided that all B/W Pokemon know Sleep Talk instinctively. (I've seen it happen and its pretty damn lame...)

If by some change a Move Tutor list comes out with Sleep Talk being able to be learned by them all, this clause will then be removed!

Furthermore, I'm gonna set a deadline for all Elite Four-teams, arena's and TM's. Everyone should have their stuff ready by June 1st. You can use a new post in ToTA or just edit in and old one. And yes I do realise I'm the only E4 member who hasn't done any of that:D This is just a deadline so we can show the community who we are and what we're working with. Team alterations will possible in the future on specific dates; as I know some of you are waiting for your Safari Trips to end, so don't worry.

ASB Newsletter


Hello everyone, I am your newest mod, Greyfox, here to detail the dull current and exciting future events for ASB! As of right now, I know everyone's feeling a little burned out because of school projects and, as a result, the activity of our little forum is dwindling. I ask you, however, to please be patient and vigilant because activity should spike soon.

During this time, we are asking (not telling) you all to please consider limiting the number of battles you partake in from four to three, so that our already-overworked referees don't get even more burnt out.
Promotions
As you all know, we lost a very dear Gym Leader: Weasel Overlord. While she'll be very missed here, we've been needing someone to fill her shoes. That person is Oslo, who has managed to be the first person to acquire the requisite amount of badges. He will be asked to battle either Darkly or myself for a preliminary battle in his arena!
Cleaning Up the Clutter
As you may've noticed, the Mod Team has been doing a bit of (late) spring cleaning with our beloved forum. Most of the threads from years past have been archived in, well, the archives. I'd like to say that we'll keep doing this for battles that've already been completed.
Safari Zone
As Darkly said before, the fact that we have legendary pokémon in our Safari Zone roaming around hasn't managed to burn down our league. However, there is something I'd like to address to the Safari Zone referees, and that's this:

When someone catches a legendary pokémon, no one else will be able to find that pokémon in the zone for about six months. Once someone finds and captures, say, Articuno, then no one else can see it again until Moltres and Zapdos are also captured. As of right now, the following legendary pokémon are off-limits:


Articuno, Zapdos, Celebi, Regice, Groudon, Heatran, Cresselia, Darkrai, and Giratina.


And speaking of the Safari Zone, the mod team is fast at work making some interesting changes to the zone. Keep your eyes peeled during the coming months!
Move Tutors
The Gym Leader/Elite 4 move tutors are certainly nice, but should we really be limiting the move tutors to them? On November 1st, we will unveil a Move Tutor shop that'll allow you to teach your pokemon moves that they should've already been able to learn! Isn't that exciting?

Hey everyone, it's me again. This one's not going to be a big newsletter, but there are a few interesting things to highlight.For starters, the Move Tutor Shop has been updated to include a pair of new moves for your pokémon, so check that out whenever you can. In addition, we are still trying to get newest gym leader Oslo to battle us for a preliminary bout.In Safari Zone-related news, the ban on certain legendary pokémon has been removed, leaving only a few on the 'can't be seen' list. Those pokémon are:


Articuno, Zapdos, Celebi, Regice, Groudon, and Giratina.

Finally, newcomers 5illy, Uraziel, and Venomous Pidgey are being awarded 2 points just for being new! Be sure to link to this thread in the Financial Tower to claim your coin!

ASB Newsletter: Jaunuary 2012!


HELLLOOOO ASB! DL here ad I'm feeling magginificent. After all the change and growth I've seen as a person, it's about time I sat down and get back to my roots, ASB being one of them.

So. I'm sure I've missed quite a bit. I noticed Activity dropped a tad. Hell I don't think I even earned 10 points this quarter. But that's ok. I'm sure to earn a hell of alot more in the coming months, especially with whats coming in the new few weeks. Now, I know I did not give anything away in the tree this year. That's because I've started to think about a few things that could be hindering ASB as a whole.

It happens all the time. Our teams grow to a point where we simply can't use everyone. We have this knack for obtaining all these beasts, but hell we don't use them all. We tell ourselves "someday" to that gift we got 3 years ago, but it never occurs.
So, I decided on finally doing something about it. Talked it over with Muggles and Grey, and we've finally created the Expansion you all actually need but don't realize yet (as well as add a shitton of perks.)

The Safari Zone is now a new monster, complete with a specialized portion for everyone's ginormous teams. NO more having super giveaways at the Tree (Though if you like that, then that's cool too...). No more isolationist Pokemon just hanging around as cannon fodder in your VS Seeker. Because now, we have our own Pasture Zone!

The Pasture Zone is basically the same concept as Pokemon Ranch. You can drop your Pokemon off here...and neeeeever see them again. Wait what? Never see them again? Yes, you read right. Never see them again. Why? Because after a while...they get released into the Safari Zone. Call it an acclimation period. Call it a forlong farewell. I call it adjustment. Now, what's so cool about this?

Because other people can catch them...for free :O!!!

FREE? Wtf did I just bypass the Trading Tower? How is this free? Well, let me explain Cyn.

Lets use...DARTH ¬¬. Darth keeps pulling this shit about wanting to start over fresh and have a new team. Well he gets this memo and reads about the new Pasture Zone. He reads the main guidelines of the rules, which are as follows.

1) You pay 6 points to have your own Pasture. One time only fee.
2) You can deposit any Pokemon into the Pasture-granted they 1) have been on your team for 6 months and 2) have participated in one battle. This way, you don't just trash someone's gift to you, cause that's mean.

He then reads about the perks.
1) Your Ranch grows and shrinks as time goes on. Say you start and deposit 10 Pokemon on your first trip. Those ten Pokemon are now NOT IN YOUR TEAM ANYMORE. YOU still own them, but they are not accessible to you. If you leave them there in Pasture and they are left unattended for a MONTH--they are GONE.
2) Unattended Pokemon are transplanted into the Zone *WITH all of their LEARNED MOVE Tutor Moves.
3) As your zone grows, you will have access to other people's Zone. So say Ayeun makes a Pasture and only deposits 15 Pokemon. Darth sees that People with Pastures inhabited with up to 15 Pokemon can check out and CATCH POKEMON IN OTHER PEOPLE'S Pastures. Meaning you can Catch these Move Tutored Pokemon with no ill effects on your part, provided you can access that Zone.

Oh, wait. But then you ask what about the Pokeballs needed to catch them? Don't those need to be bought? Well, that's the first gift to you all. It's already pretty cheap to get into the Safari Zone. Since this new Zone is a nice way to encourage a new type of gameplay, I'm graciously allowing anyone during the month of January to open a Pasture, and I'll flip the bill. (I mean, what else am I gonna do with all this cash?)

Oh, other stipulations..I have those covered.

3) You can alternatively open a Pasture if you have completed a certain amount of Safari Zone Rounds. This number is (second gift) 5. Yes, a measly 5 rounds in the Safari Zone qualifies you to open up your own Pasture. But this gift only lasts til January 15!

But DL-That contradicts your first gift?

No it doesn't Grey, Shut it. My first gift says that I'd flip the bill. Meaning that if they didn't have 5 rounds and wanted to pay the 6 points to open a Pasture, they could do so and I'd pay for it that way.

4) Your Pasture grows with your Safari Zone Outings. The more rounds you log, the bigger it grows. Only 2012 Rounds are eligible :/. You can have a maximum of 200 Pokemon in your Pasture at one time, in 6 stages of growth.

Stage One: 25 Safari Zone rounds-coverts to Base Pasture. 15 Pokemon
Stage Two: 50 Safari Zone rounds-coverts to Super Pasture. 50 Pokemon.
Stage Three: 75 Safari Zone rounds-coverts to Hyper Pasture. 75 Pokemon
Stage Four: 100 Safari Zone rounds-coverts to Warp Pasture. 115 Pokemon
Stage Five: 125 Safari Zone rounds-coverts to Ultra Pasture. 150 Pokemon
Stage Six: 150 Safari Zone rounds-converts to Master Pasture. 200 Pokemon Allotment at one time.

Whoo. That's a heck of a deal right there. But oh man there's so much more.

Catch a Pokemon from another Person's Pasture can be instant. As long as you can access someone else's Zone, you can catch right away! So lets say Darth deposits a Probopass in his Pasture. Oslo can come along and shark it immediately whilst on his Safari Zone Adventure :O It will be tamer than your standard wild Pokemon, so it will be able to be caught in a Pokeball if you so wished.

Which brings me to my next point. Pokeball purchasing.
The maximum number of Pokeballs one can buy in the Safari Zone now is 5. This is to aid in a Zone that is not dragged out-and to curb the refund process for a zone that has participants vanish midway through. The three Pokemon limit stays.

Can caught Pokemon from the Zone go directly into the Pasture? Yes. At times, you may find that there are random wild Pokemon in your Pasture...and then you may find your Pokemon have gone missing prior to the month deadline. Who knows what happens to them >D

Ok DL. I'm slightly intrigued by this. Will there be more changes to the Safari Zone?

Why yes? The standard Safari Zone you know now will stay more or less. Changes and adaptations are coming to help complement the Pasture Zone...and the other Zones that are coming in.

Current Zones that are being reffed will have only slight modifications, barely noticeable really. But the Classic update will come later this month-as there is one rather large kink that needs to be worked out.

Note: If a Legendary Pokemon is left in the Pasture Zone, it will leave IMMEDIATLY. This is to ensure rarity of them as well as to foster Legend availability...as a plethora more have now become available..and will be noted in the next update.

So stay Tuned for part II of the Safari Zone update.

Ok. That was the big news.

Next item to touch on. Move Tutor lists. I hope this sees more action as time goes on. We have to update the moves probably, but I assure you. Grey's idea for this will absolutely blow your mind. So please. Purchase moves. Have fun with this, as this has amazing potential.

Next item on the agenda? New Year Tournament. In a weeks time, a signup sheet will be posted. There are only 8 spots. No Legends. NO themes. Just a straight up one Pokemon each Survival Tournament. You win-you win BIG. I can tell you now that Pain Split will not be banned, but all Healing moves will be. You win a round, you gain 50 HP back. That's it. So be ready for that signup sheet.

Note: There will be 6 Tournaments this year of this size and stature, with a mixup on handicaps and effects, and some will even have the E4 in use. So lazy asses wake up. Its time to step your game up.

What's next. Oh People! Where are the Gym Challengers!??!? We need you all!

Uhhh..oh yeah shoot Reffed rounds. I was more along the lines of participation, but I assume Reffed rounds are just as significant as trip rounds, so yes, they are equal.

New distribution information is forthcoming Ay, so keep reffing your rounds as you have been. A new list will be done...tonight..I think I almost have it all compiled. It might look drastically different, but it will aid you in the long run. Oh and it'll be in Word, so Updating it will be easier. (Unless yer a geek like me and have it in Excel Spreadsheets)

Uhhh yeah. As attachments to a Zone, these Ranches won't be SUPER hard to find. Only the person knows where their ranch is located too-and that info can be posted in your Pasture Post.

I see activity rising again here in ASB and that's all thanks to you active people! Major props to all the refs who been putting in loads of work and to DL for hosting another Contest!

Safari Zone

No shitting you, we have major updates for the Safari Zone and it's gonna be nasty. We're gonna turn your world upside down, shake it and remold it, twice! What? No update now? Yes, I just put this in the newsletter to make you more curious:D Expect more adventure and more options; like me after a couple of gin tonics!

Pasture Zone is doing fine, most pokemon have probably already left their zones and are now up for grabs in the Safari Zone. You'll just gonna have to find the Pasture first ^^

Just a reminder that when someone catches a legendary pokémon, no one else will be able to find that pokémon in the zone for about six months. So the new updated off-limit-legendary-list is: Articuno, Zapdos, Celebi, Regice, Groudon, Heatran, Giratina and Dialga.

Move Tutors

For all of you who haven't been to the Move Tutor Shop, we have one! And it's awesome! So awesome that we're gonna add new moves: Coil, Drill Run, Eruption, Hex, Icicle Crash, and Rock Wrecker are now up for sale. Don't get your hopes up, though, some other moves are disappearing so it's not all win-win! If you want moves, you'll gonna have to up to date as we're gonna be switching them around. The Bluster Contest is going nicely and is almost finished! It's very close and everything is still possible! Don't be afraid to ref a contest if you feel like it, we're gonna update Contest Judging Request Sheet and turn it into the Contest Information Thread, where all contest related info shall go. STRUCTURE AND RULE! Wish I was good at contests..

Oslo just wooped local moderator Greyfox's ass in his Combat Disco. Even Grey's Heatran didn't stand a chance for Oslo's witty dancemoves. Watch out members, another die hard Gymleader in the ranks, who shall challenge him first? Defeat four Gymleaders and earn to right to challenge the Elite Four!

Speaking of which, E4 and Gymleaders can challenge eachother for their Unique Moves! These matches offer only the said move, no points, no glory, no nothing, just the move. Oh and it could be the start for some light, but awesome rivalries:D

People who have no inspiration for a pokemon name, want to have a random name, or are looking for suggestions can go the name shop and choose, discuss or ask for names. Explanations and arguments can tilt someone in favor of your name, so go nuts! I already have one that's need naming..

Hello, everyone, it's your favorite mod, Greyfox, here to tell you of the exciting new events that are coming into play in the coming few weeks! First off, I'd like to thank you all for powering through the slow current of the league. I know that it's nearing exam time again, and Spring Break can'tve possibly lasted forever. But we've got some things in store for you that'll be sure to keep you interested!
Safari Zone
The Safari Zone is going through a lot of changes, and I know we've been telling you all about them without showing them at all. I promise, though, that we'll be able to tell you about all that soon enough. On April 1st, the all-new Safari Zone will open its doors and shower you with craziness!
Approval Tower
Just like the Safari Zone is going through changes, so too will the Approval Tower. Gone is the way of the old system -- also starting April 1st, you will no longer be able to purchase pokemon from the tower! No-no, instead, you'll only be able to catch pokemon the old fashioned way: through the Safari Zone. Alternatively, there is also the Egg Shop, which will be going through some changes of its own as well!
Egg Shop
Speaking of the Egg Shop, it's been going through some revamping as well! Starting April 1st, you will be able to bring in a male and female pokemon of your choice, and, if they're compatible, you might just walk out with a new baby pokemon! Now, this might sound boring, but did I forget to mention that the father of this baby might just pass on any Move Tutor moves he's learned? Doesn't sound so boring now, does it?
Tournament
The P1 Grand Prix is winding down, but don't be alarmed, folks, a new one will be on its way soon enough! I'll be hosting it this time, so Darkly will finally have a chance to show us all what he's made of!

It's that time of year again, folks, but the mod team might need some ideas. Feel free to let us know what you think should be celebrated in the Suggestion Topic!

It’s been a while, huh kids? DL’s FINALLY..COME BACK..TO WRITING THE AS NEWSLETTER! And man do we have a lot for you all to take in. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Safari Zone
Yeah, this is the starting point. As of 5/6, that’s May 6th for you dyslexic folk, the Safari Zone will implement a slew of changes both internally and externally. This Newsletter will be your guide to it all-as well as the remodeled Safari Zone Tower that will go up in the B&T forum to help the transition.

As you head over there, you will notice there are a slew of new options to select from, and we hope that these new changes are met with ripe enthusiasm!

Safari Zone Modes:

Instead of the standard SZ zone trip, you now have the ability to tailor your trip in order to capture your coveted Pokemon. You may also stumble unto hidden lands not accessible in the standard Safari Zone modes! This should put a nice (and hopefully shorter) time in Zone length and action.

But we didn’t neglect the original Zone, no! There are a whopping 12 new areas to explore, each with their share of Pokemon! So buy some balls and go searching!

Safari Zone Housekeeping:

After this Newsletter goes up, there will be one important change. All currently stalled SZ's are to be discontinued. This includes if someone is hunting Legendaries down. This is to help make them available for the Speed Zone aspect.

If you are reffing older adventures still, then offer the option to change their Zones to Speed Zones if they feel that will be something they would prefer. If there is a change, let a Head Ref know so they can evaluate just how many posts they have. Otherwise, keep moving along if they are just happy with the current adventure.

Also, for all that have Pastures, access points are needed to be provided to all refs so people have a chance to get to them.

Bye bye Approval Tower
So, what happens when the Approval Tower loses its ability to allow us to purchase Pokemon? Simple, it gets a whole less cluttered. You’ll still approve Pokemon there, so no worries.

Ahh the Egg shop. Which also sells Stones. Which now also doubles as a breeding center! That also was not a myth, as previously thought. You can bring in a female and Male Pokemon, and if the Male Pokemon knows any Move Tutored moves-that have a great chance to be passed down to said child. Even better, it costs only 1 point day PER Pokemon until they have an egg. Egg laying can take between 1 and 3 days.

Hey! Oslo, in all his magical wizardry, hosted a Contest in what might have been the fastest hosting time ever. Excellent work there, man.

Tournament
Thanks to Grey, we have ourselves a captivating STABless Tournament. It’s still in the Semi-finals, with MlG and Rossymore battling it out to take on no one other than myself in the finals!

Gyms
There comes a time when the Gym Leaders need to be rotated in order to keep up with the times. As it stands now, we are in the market for Gym Leaders to replace at least 1 spot in our ranks. So, now would be the grand time to announce that if you challenge a Gym Leader and win, you will be entered in a drawing to be chosen as the next newest Gym Leader. Alternatively, if you defeat 4 Gym Leaders, you have the option of outing the fourth Leader and replacing them-as per the original rules.


ASB Awards
Oooh awards! I remember now. You all should come up with some of the most memorable and funny quotes you’ve heard this year so far…and stash them...so when the awards come around, we can definitely have a grand ol’ time.

Misc:

We're looking to improve our ASB, and we've taken some steps to make the transition of no more purchasing Pokemon a little easier on you all. Thanks to Oslo, we decided to make the Pastures repopulate with all the Pokemon you've placed there. This way, everyone has a chance to find the pasture and actually obtain these Pokemon!

I know we have a few newbies, and all newbies get 2 points upon joining. I believe the new folks this time around are Perfect Chaos, WeatheredBlades and EraGam.

How does breeding work in terms of move compatibility? Let's say I have a male Simisear with Eruption tutored onto it and I breed him with a female Simipour, thereby creating a wee little Panpour. Would Panpour still have a chance of knowing Eruption, even though it's not compatible with that move at the Tutor Shop?

Ay: Yes, they can keep their previous catches. They just get no refund if they have unused Pokeballs.

Oslo: Good question. No, the Panpour won't be able to learn Eruption. We'll make sure to review the babies compatibility with specific moves as time goes on.

Rossy: Ditto is still a sex slave, yes. You'd basically mini clone your Pokemon and they'd know any and all Move Tutor Moves they have acquired.

We do it that way DD/MM/YY because the DAYS change every day, where as the MONTH changes only once every 30ish days... There for, on a clock or calander, it goes DD/MM/YY, not MM/DD/YY.

On any calendar , the date is printed (ex-May 5 2012). So Logic one, defeated. You read the month first, then the day, cause you dont go "Uhhh what month is this" unless you forget to change your calendar month. So no. Month is always read first to act as a reference for days, not the other way around.

Second-yes D,M,Y is letter order but no one cares about letter order when you come from upside down land :P!

I will start with the SZ. First off, I want to applaud everyone for grasping the concept and exploding it into what it has become. I can still see how much more will add to it, and look forward to the coming changes that we as a community make, rather than just Grey lording over us :p



With that said, big props to Cynder, Perfect Chaos, Eragam and Gigya for becoming SZ refs and alleviating the load off of everyone already reffing. And thanks to our returning refs Rossymore and Razor Leaf for also helping out. With this much enthusiasm, everyone is sure to get quality adventures...

Summertime :D


Ahh, its a wonderful time. I love summer. Not just because of the blistering 106 degree heat, mind you. I love summer because the introduction of the Summer X-mas tree begins. On June 15th, the Summer tree will once again reawaken from its slumber, and you all will able to partake in the festivities. I imagine it will have some differences this time around, but I'm sure it will be for the better. Rules will be posted in the appropriate topic, so get ready :D



Egg Shop

Oh yes! The Egg shop! Usually, there is a deal going on throughout the span of the Tree's life where if you buy one egg, you get one free, maximum 4 eggs. Or maybe that's just my understanding of it. This deal can be exploited once a week.

Alternatively, you can buy two small stones and get a large stone for the combined total of 10 points (a 50% value!). Deals are not interchangeable.

I'd say we're at the halfway mark. Shall be interesting how this Tournament ends!




Gyms


So far, no one has won a Gym Match and grabbed that coveted Gym Leader title. Wolfsong is determined to grab it through me, but I'll give her a hell of a fight first.
