----------
It's a big party for the newly-turned six-year-old. He has many of his kindergarten friends with him and they're all having a fun time. However, when he goes to blow out the candles on his cake, he instead causes them to burst into bigger flames. A few kids scream, but the mother quickly conjures up some water and douses the flame while the father waves his hand and blows the dark cloud of smoke away. The party then continues as if nothing was wrong, and in fact the parents are both excited for the kid. This can't be normal, can it?
As it so happens, it is normal. On an alternate Earth, humans have developed another gene: the Psi Gene. This 'incomplete dominance' gene allows humans to control natural forces. Most people have these abilities, but those who do not have a positive Psi Gene do not. Most Norms (people without a positive Psi Gene) live perfectly well with Psi, though a few Norms have some resentment towards them. There are also Pures, or Pure Psi, who have both positive Psi Genes. Pures have greater power and more control over their powers, owing to the fact that they have two genes.
There are 7 Psi types: Terra, Pyro, Aqua, Glacia, Aero, Electro, and Neuro. They deal with the Earth, Fire, Water, Ice, Air, Electric, and Psychic elements, respectively. Each has their strengths and weaknesses, and each are trained differently in school. Each type has a special use in certain workplaces for certain jobs. As such, it is rather easy for any type to easily fit in with any other type. (More details about Psi and Psi types follow.)
You, however, were not normal, even by these standards. Having shown no powers by the age of 7, you were registered as a Norm, and you began to live your life that way. That is, until you unexpectedly showed Psi powers at the age of 10. Immediately you became the subject of several medical tests, though nothing was found to prove you unhealthy. However, you did possess an unnaturally strong Psi power, even compared to other 10-year-old Pures who had had 3 years of Psi training in school.
You're also not the only one. In the few years preceding and/or following your sudden discovery, other kids blossom suddenly at the age of 10, also having abnormally strong powers. All of them live within reasonable traveling distance of you and each other, which isn't all that strange, but still interesting. After about 5 years of these Age-10 Outbursts, however, no more of them show up, and after about another 5 years, you've all been almost forgotten by the general public, though you still remember your meeting with each of the others as they were discovered.
It has now been nearly 10 years since the first Age-10 Outburst. You've found your place in society, and almost nobody thinks twice about you and how you were one of the "late bloomers." That is, until one fateful day when suddenly the Psi started losing their powers. At first people thought it was due to exhaustion or possibly a common sickness, but soon all the Halbs and Pures were working at less than half their normal ability, even though they felt absolutely healthy otherwise. All of them…except for you. Somehow you're unaffected by this strange epidemic of power loss.
And so everyone's eyes are on you again, the sole prevailers over the Psi-less Epidemic. Most correctly remember you as the Psi from the Age-10 Outburst, and suddenly everyone is wondering what has kept you in perfect condition and making the correct correlation between the lateness of your Psi discovery and your current lack of being Psi-less. Many people try to discover the reason, but as only you and the Norms aren't needing to adjust, not much gets found out.
But less than a week after the Psi-less Epidemic started, you receive a mysterious, unsigned letter, a white piece of paper saying nothing more than, "I'm after you." As if on cue, a group of people suddenly breaks into your house. You barely have time to register the fact that they look strangely like black-clad ninjas before they start attacking you…just like ninjas!
Fortunately, your still-intact powers lets you defeat them, and after they retreat the only thing you think of to do is contact the others of the Age-10 Outburst. Some of them you've been friends with since you met, while others you haven't talked to since the one time you met. But when everyone's story matches, you realize that it was no coincidence. Someone is after you, and you aren't about to let them...
-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-
So that's basically it. You're a special Psi, one with stronger powers than normal. You gained your powers later than usual, but by the time the Psi-less Epidemic starts, you've been forgotten. Now someone seems to be after you, but you don't know who. The plot basically entails finding out who wants to get you, whether or not s/he caused the epidemic, and finding a way to stop it and cure the epidemic.
[font=Papyrus]Common Terms
Psi: {sî : sounds like 'sigh'} Psi is a noun and an adjective, and is both singular and plural. A Psi is a person with one of the seven types of natural-based abilities. Psi abilities are passed down through genetics, and the gene itslef is a case of incomplete dominance. Those who have the Psi gene from both of their parents are Pure Psi, and typically have greater and more refined abilities than those with only one gene. Those who have the gene from one of their parents are Halb Psi, and have a moderate use of the abilities of their Psi type. If a person has no Psi genes, he or she is considered a Norm and has no abilities of any Psi type.
At the age of 6, no earlier, but before the age of 7, a Psi shows his or her first signs of ability. After the age of 7 has been reached, if no Psi abilities have been detected, they are assumed to not have any abilities and are considered Norms. By the age of 7, every person is registered with what type of Psi they are, or if they are a Norm. This registration is essential and required for everyone, as it affects many aspects in their lives, with school and jobs being the most influenced.
One important note about Psi abilities: the abilities of a Psi's parents have absolutely no effect on the ability of the Psi him or herself. There has been no apparent link between the parents' abilities and their child(ren)'s. For example, just because two Pure Glacia-Psi have a kid (who will genetically be a Pure Psi), it doesn't automatically mean that the kid will be a Glacia-Psi as well.
Pure: To be a Pure Psi (or just a Pure) means to have both genes for Psi abilities. Pure Psi almost always have greater power than Psi who only have one gene for it (see Halb), though this is not always true. When used as a noun, the plural is Pures.
Halb: {hählb : sounds like 'hall' with a 'b' at the end} Halb is a noun and an adjective. A Halb (or a Halb Psi) is someone who possesses only one of the two genes for Psi abilities. While they do have the powers related to their type, the powers are usually weaker than those of a Pure Psi, though this is not always the case. Again, when used as a noun, the plural is Halbs.
Norm: Coming from "normal," this is the term (sometimes used in a derogative manner) to refer to a person who has no genes for Psi abilities. While some Norms have resentful feelings towards Psi, most Norms are perfectly content with having no extra abilities, and as approximately one-fourth of the population are Norms they feel it's just another type to be.
~~ Please note: Psi, Pure, Halb, and Norm are all "proper nouns/adjectives" when used to refer to the people and should be capitalized.
Phases of Matter: There are three phases of matter; solid, liquid, and gas. (For the purposes of this RPG, there will be no plasma.) There are six terms for changing between phases. Most people know four of them, but for completeness all of them are listed following.
~ Melt - To melt means to use heat to change a substance from a solid to a liquid.
~ Evaporate - To evaporate means to use heat to change a substance from a liquid to a gas. [Process: Evaporation]
~ Sublimate - To sublimate means to use heat to change a substance from a solid to a gas, bypassing the liquid state. [Process: Sublimation]
~ Freeze - To freeze means to use cold to change a substance from a liquid to a solid.
~ Condense - To condense means to use cold to change a substance from a gas to a liquid. [Process: Condensation]
~ Depose - To depose means to use cold to change a substance from a gas to a solid, bypassing the liquid state. [Process: Deposition]
Types of Psi
Terra
Those gifted with the Earth-type powers of a Terra-Psi have control over the ground, as well as plant-life. They can cause the earth itself to shake, though usually not very much or for very long. They can also control plants to an extent, most often convincing plants to grow (or weeds to stop growing), though usually the plant has to be in the ground somewhere. Pure Terra-Psi can shape the ground itself, even solid rock, and can create fissures in the ground; they also have a greater control over plants and can control them even outside of the ground.
Pyro
The Fire-type powers of a Pyro-Psi allow for the control of flames and very high temperatures. Those with these powers can make fire from nothing, and can control the intensity and direction of the flames. They can also melt, evaporate, and even sublimate any substance, though the higher the temperature needed, the harder it is to do. Pure Pyro-Psi can walk through fire with ease without fear of any physical harm; they also have a greater control of flames and can reach higher temperatures.
Aqua
Aqua-Psi, with their Water-type powers, can control the movement of any liquid in any way, as long as it remains a liquid. They can also breathe underwater with ease. They also have more control over pure water, and can shift it between the three phases. In addition, they can conjure water from nothing, though usually not much at a time. Pure Aqua-Psi can breathe at deeper depths than Halb Aqua-Psi, and the greater control (phase shifting) they have over pure water can also affect water that is mixed with other substances, as long as the mixture is still more than three-fourths water; they also can conjure more water at a time.
Glacia
The Ice-type Glacia-Psi have the ability to control ice and very low temperatures. They can create auras of extreme cold that can be focused in direction and intensity, as well as shaping ice. They can also freeze, condense, and even depose any substance, though the lower the temperature needed, the harder it is to do. Pure Glacia-Psi can encase themselves in ice without harm, and have greater control of ice and lower temperatures.
Aero
The Aero-Psi, with their Air-type abilities, can obviously control the very air around us. They can make it solidify (not freeze, but lock the air molecules in place), cause it to blow in any direction, and can even make themselves fly (by making the air around them push on their bodies). They can also control the temperature of the air to a point, and can change the pressure of the air slightly. Pure Aero-Psi can fly longer, farther, and higher with less effort, as well as being able to push the air more strongly; their control over the temperature and pressure is also greater.
Electro
Electro-Psi have control over electricity and the various Electric-type abilities. They can cause electricity to course through their bodies, and can send it out in all directions and types (AC/DC/static/etc.). They can also charge their bodies in a special way so as to create a magnet out of their body or just part of their body. Electro-Psi also do not "need" to sleep, provided they absorb enough electricity from an outside source. Pure Electro-Psi have larger electric capacities, and therefore can more easily create larger surges of power and more powerful magnets; they also can cause lightning to strike them or a target by making the polarity of the target be strongly opposite that of the clouds above (assuming there are clouds already there); in addition, they can send out an EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse), though this will severely tire even a Pure Electro-Psi.
Neuro
Neuro-Psi are gifted with Psychic-type powers, which some claim are the best, though most Neuro-Psi disagree. Telekinesis is a basic ability, but as would be expected, the larger the object and the farther it's moved equals more energy needed. Telepathy is also basic, but the range of telepathy is limited, and it can only be used from Neuro-Psi into the minds of others, not the other way around. Also, while it ties in with Telekinesis, most people consider the ability to levitate and float around separate since it's moving one's own body. Pure Neuro-Psi have more powerful Telekinesis and Telepathy, and an easier time with levitation, often being able to float a few stories high and still move around; also, since they are the most powerful, Pure Neuro-Psi are the only ones who can read minds, however it takes a great strain and it is very apparent to anyone watching that the Neuro-Psi is reading someone's mind.
