The rules of Fortunately, Unfortunately are pretty simple. Just continue the story with two statements. The first should start with "Unfortunately" and the second should start with "Fortunately". Here's an example of how it might work.

Unfortunately, everyone in the world became evil!

Fortunately, the evil people learned to live in peace.

Get the idea? Just continue the story, from post to post. It can go in wild and crazy directions, so be ready for some hilarity!

I'll start things.


Unfortunately, the people of earth didn't realize that a meteor was speeding toward the planet.

Fortunately, they were happy.

Unfortunately, the meteor was radioactive

Fortunately, earth had a planetary shield to protect it from the meteor.

Unfortunately, the meteor cracked the planetary shield.

Fortunately, the planetary shield didn't break from the impact.

Unfortunately, the shield shattered when another meteor struck it.

Fortunately, the impact caused both meteors to fly back out into the deepest reaches of space.

Fortunately, the people of these worlds were technologically advanced enough to destroy the meteors before they reached the planets

Fortunately, the people of the world manage to turn the gas to oxygen.

Fortunately, they built a machine to convert the oxygen into nitrogen, which they could breathe.

Unfortunately, they accidently turned it into helium instead of nitrogen

Fortunately, the aliens could breath both helium and nitrogen

Unfortunately, it is said that if the two gas mix, they will explode.

Fortunately, science proved otherwise.

Unfortunately, science soon learned that it is essentially impossible to prove anything indubitably true.

Unfortunately, another problem that had nothing to do with gases exploding faced a much more serious effect on this conclusion.
