I know that its a serious matter and all, but when I first heard that story, I thought that Lidle killed himself because the Yankees had been eliminated from the first round of the playoffs. But yeah, I know what really happened. Its a sad thing to happen, and my condolences to his family for the hardship they must be going through.

You know what "really happened"? Mind filling me in? Because I didn't think anything had been confirmed yet... everyone seems to have a different report.

By the way, the start time for games 3 and 4 of the ALCS have been changed due to concerns about the weather in Detroit tomorrow night. Game 3 of the NLCS has also been changed to match the shift of the ALCS' game 4.

EDIT: Whoops... edited the wrong post. ^_^;;

Detroit, you'd better believe it! The Tigers have swept the American League Championship Series, finishing with a walk-off three-run bomb from Magglio Ordonez to end a 6-3 comeback victory in game four!

Welcome back to the World Series, Detroit! We've missed you.

EDIT: Are you freaking kidding me?! Jeff Suppan, starting pitcher for the Cards, hits a liner over the left field wall to lead off the second inning! Steve Trachsel, Mets hurler, is FURIOUS about giving up the second round-tripper of Suppan's career.

Yes, I live for this.

EDIT2: Oh, and to make it even better, guess who Suppan went yard against for his only regular season blast? Yup. Steve Trachsel. Love it! ^_^

EDIT3: Been a long time since I've done a triple edit... anyway, after a scary moment where a single bounced off Trachsel's leg into the outfield, he proceeded to load the bases, finishing with a Pujols walk. He's now exited the game with a 3-0 deficit, the bases juiced, and nobody out in the bottom of the 2nd.

EDIT4: Cards take a 2-1 series lead! Most excellent. ^_^

EDIT5: And that hurts. ...Somebody else post here, dang it!

Well at least Glavine is going on full rest now instead of three days only. But yeah, in all honesty, the only way I see us winning the series is solely based on our offense and if our starting pitching lasts us AT LEAST five innings. But then again, how long can some of relievers keep going at this rate? Well, I suppose we'll have to wait and see

Tonight's game we should definately win with Glavine going again. All we have to do is get to Carpenter like we did the other night and we are the National League Champs ^^

Though even if The Cards win I will still be rooting for them.

Ah hell...I don't know what to say. I'm not giving the Mets much chance in Game 6, even if it is at home. I mean come-on, the match-up is just ludicrous (Rookie vs. Cy Young winner). I don't care if Carpenter faltered in Game 2 or whenever the hell he pitched, the guy's got experience, which Maine doesn't. Well mr_pikachu, I concede. Enjoy going to the World Series.

BTW, kick-ass "mini-banner" you have in the sig (the one that keeps changing after a few seconds). How'd you do that?

COME ON, LETS GO METS!

If i'm not mistaken the Cardinals were in this situtation in 2004 as well, and they came back and won. Let's hope the same luck comes back for us.

mr_pikachu
18th October 2006, 03:49 PM
Yeah, we were in this situation. But in that case, both teams were playing with basically their best lineups. This time, both lineups have been crippled by injuries, so there are a lot more factors to mix things up than just home field advantage. We'll see how it goes.

And Perfect Chaos, I'd wager that the picture is a .gif file, which doesn't have to remain static like other image formats. It may have been created with an image editor like Animation Shop.

The Detroit Tigers, who last won the World Series in 1984. Who haven't been in the playoffs since getting rocked 4-1 in the '87 ALCS by Minnesota. Who haven't had a winning record since '93. Who lost 119 games just three years ago. Who haven't finished higher than third in their division since '91, and who had only 98 wins in 2002 and '03 combined, which was less than seven teams over those two years had in one season.

The St. Louis Cardinals, an annual contender whose biggest surprise this year was being an underdog going into the postseason. Who lost more games this season than any other team in the playoffs. Who were swept by the Red Sox in 2004, and who fell to the 1987 Twins and '85 Royals in seven. Whose last World Series title was a seven-game win over the '82 Brewers. Who have been crippled by injuries to Isringhausen, Mulder, Edmonds, Rolen, and Pujols.

These two teams will go head-to-head in the World Series starting October 21. The winner will earn their first title in over 20 years. The loser will have to be content with second place.

EDIT: So, would you take your devotion for your team to the grave (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2630637)?
[color=magenta]Aack no way would I want to be buried in a Cleveland Indians casket... once I am dead I want to leave them behind, they have tortured me enough while I am alive, I don't want to spend eternity lying in a casket with the Indians on it.

I could just picture it... if I live to be say... 80 years old... (that is about the average, right?) I could be laying in a funeral home in a Cleveland Indians casket in the year 2065, and everybody could be coming around saying "look at that poor old fart... spent 80 years waiting for a World Series win and never got to see it..." let's see, the Indians last won it in 1948, and the way they are going, by the time I am 80, it will be 117 years since they won XD"

Well anyways, I hope that the Cardinals win the World Series, with Detroit being a divisional rival, I just can't support them... although Detroit will probably win, because the overachieving teams are the only ones that win the World Series these days. Plus, I want the Cardinals to win because they got Ronnie Belliard, one of the best guys to play for the Indians in recent years... I hope that he comes back to Cleveland next year, but he is probably putting himself too far out of Cleveland's price range with his performance in the playoffs, and with the Cardinals getting so deep into the playoffs.

Master Rudy

Well seeing that the Mets are out of it.......go Tigers! :D

Sorry but it's against my nature to cheer for a team that knocked one of my teams out of the playoffs so I'll usually cheer for the other team. Exceptions would be the Yankees and the Braves in baseball and in football the Pats and the Steelers. I'd die before I cheered any of those teams on.

"The only question I have," said an NL scout, "is whether the Cardinals can win a game."

Question answered.

EDIT: Detroit relied on Rogers for Game 2; he returned the favor with eight innings of dominating, shutout baseball. The World Series heads back to St. Louis with a 1-1 knot between the Cards and Tigers.

EDIT2: Was Rogers' exceptional pitching due to filthy stuff or dirty cheating? Funny how that's a far bigger story (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2635633) than the Tigers' 3-1 victory.

EDIT3: Carpenter and Looper combine for a three-hit shutout to take a 2-1 series lead!

On the other hand, three rainouts in one postseason for one team has got to be just about unprecedented.
