Arena - Nightmare Canyon

A deserted canyon that lies on a slight hill. An open space within the canyon has been forged ready for an ambush. Across the sharply inclined canyon walls are an uncountable amount of sharp rock spines. While the smaller will shatter on impact, the larger would do more damage than thought of mere rock. Hidden within the rock spines are pores from which escapes natural gas. Explosive to the end, the gas can cause a major blast if ignited, either by flames itself or sparks from rocks striking each other as they fall. Fire, smoke and a rain of debris are sure to follow.

The canyon itself is made of a heavy and durable grey rock, which will not be massively damaged by Earthquakes or the like. Further up the canyon however, the rocks are much softer, and so there's always a risk of rock slides rolling down through the canyon. Also higher up there is a large lake, though unreachable from the current location, if it were to rain, it would surely overflow, sending waves of water down through the canyon.

The battle begins at Dusk, with the sun setting in the west. Golden rays light the sky, but they will soon fade as the moon shows itself in the east.

And you're playing for the Sharp Edge Stone badge

I choose Gaia, my male Steelix!

Arise!

RaZoR LeAf
17th August 2006, 05:09 PM
Steelix was amongst the pokemon I suspected you'd pick first, and I pre-planned to use Haf, my male Blaziken.

Haf! Begin with a fast and to the point Double Kick to the head. Then when you're in, a close range Flame Thrower in the face and finish with a sharp Slash across the freshly smelted steel..

MeLoVeGhOsTs
21st August 2006, 05:39 AM
Alright Gaia, start off with firing a Toxic at Haf when he comes at you with Double Kick. Then Dig before he spews out the Flamethrower and reappear below him, sending him flying. Dont worry about the Slash, youll send him flying before he can reach you. And even if he does hit you, youre a gigant iron snake, try to hurt that with those claws.

Toxic - Dig - Reappear

You guys are in need of a ref, yes? A 3-on-3 battle in RaZoR LeAf's Nightmare Canyon with a Sharp Edge Stone Badge on the line...?

OK, then, I'll ref, if neither of you objects, that is...

We're here at Nightmare Canyon where a battle like no other is about to begin. After a long absence at ASB, Gym Leaders have finally returned - with a vengeance! ASB's best have been 'promoted,' if you will, to Gym Leader status, and here today, one of the best of the best has just met his first challenge!

RaZor LeAf, with his frightening choice of a battlefield and his team of Bugs, Psychics, Dark and Ghost types, and other such intimidating members, may very well be the most fearsome Gym Leader at ASB. But today, he has been challenged by a man whose very name proves he knows no fear: MeLoVeGhOsTs! A veteran at TPM with an impressive track record himself, MeLoVeGhOsTs (MLG to his friends and people too lazy to spell his whole name) steps up to one side of the ravine, with RaZoR LeAf (Dan to his friends and people too lazy to spell his whole name) ready at the other.

But... As intense as this battle looks... There's one problem: No ref.

Until I showed up, that is...

The battle is about to begin. Dan sends out his Blaziken, Haf, a ferocious beast of a Pokemon who is both the ref's favorite Pokemon and the alledged cornerstone of Dan's team. The fighting firebird's wrists flare up as he roars fiercely, announcing his arrival to all.

MLG, however, isn't impressed; he sends out his Steelix, a mammoth monster appropriately named Gaia. The 30-foot steel serpent screeches with enough strength to shake the whole canyon!

The referee, Blademaster, floats down overhead, astride his Metang. He points to both battlers and says in a scratchy, slightly high-pitched voice:

"OK, you two, I want a good clean fight! A Sharp Edge Stone Badge is on the line, and I don't want any screw-ups reffing my first Gym Battle! Now, let's get it on!"

A wrestling bell dings in the background somewhere, and the battle is on!

Haf starts the round off by leaping into the air - really leaping! The Blaziken sails fifty feet through the air and slams his thick, clawed foot into Gaia's head. The stunned Steelix falls back, but he quickly recovers, conjuring and spewing a Toxic glob at Haf at record speed. Mid-air, the Blaziken has no momentum, and is promptly struck...

But Haf is tough; he barely flinches, even as the corrosive poison dissolves his feathers and burns into his skin, and lands before the Steelix's stomach; he leaps up again, slamming his other foot into Gaia's chin. That hurts...

Gaia responds by diving at the softer stone between him and Haf, who leaps back as Gaia tunnels through the Earth like a giant drill, which, after all, he basically is. Dust flies as Gaia disappears below ground; Haf quickly jumps up to the hole and blasts a Flamethrower down into the ground, hoping the jet of flames strikes Gaia below ground.

Haf continues pouring on the firepower, until a blast of dust flies up in his face, just before Gaia slams into him with a full-body tackle from below the Earth, sending him flying into the air. Haf cries out as he goes flying, but he quickly rights himself and manages to land on his feet. He's too far away to Slash at Gaia, so he decides against the maneuver, taking a short break instead. As he regains a little energy, he feels a twinge of pain - the poison is setting in...

RaZoR LeAf's Team

Haf the Blaziken(M)

Haf, use a Sky Uppercut to boost yourself into the air and land on top of Steelix. His head would be preferable. When you're up there, use Fire Blast again, and finish with a powerful Dynamic Punch to the just burnt patch.

The battle continues - Dan has sent out his Blaziken, Haf, and MLG has sent out his Steelix, Gaia. The two fierce fighters fearlessly stare each other down, not taking their eyes off each other for a second as they're issued their commands.

Haf starts the round off by crouching down and then leaping up with surprising speed - those famous legs of his have propelled him fifty feet in the air without even needing to use his Sky Uppercut yet. He smirks and somersaults through the air at Gaia.

Gaia, however, knows what's coming; still half-underground, he straightens his body like a huge drill and begins to spin, kicking up a blinding duststorm all around him, like a tornado of grit and pebbles. Haf instinctively curls into a ball as he falls through the whirling dervish, gritting his teeth as the grits eats away at him before he uncurls and plants his fist atop Gaia's head. A deafening CLANG! resounds from the impact, followed by a roar of pain.

Gaia shakes his head, hoping to shake Haf off, but he can't. Growling in irritation, he begins to shake his body and slam against the ground and the canyon walls, causing a hailstorm of sharp rocks to fall all around him and onto him. The rocks shatter harmlessly against his iron hide, but Haf isn't as durable; he quickly leaps back through the storm of stones, blasting a 10-foot star-shaped blast of fire at Gaia, who roars in pain as he's engulfed in a huge explosion. Flames, dust, and rocks all combine in a huge explosion, obscuring everyone's view of Gaia.

Haf smirks, but suddenly the ground begins to shake; a huge form bursts from the Earth before him. It's Gaia, of course, and he's barely scratched! His diamond-hard Steel body is nearly impervious to landslides, it seems; even the heat of a Fire Blast hasn't done any lasting damage, save for heating his iron body to a higher temperature.

Haf frowns, frustrated, but he has no time to sulk - Gaia opens his titanic jaws and spits out a stream of greenish flames, slamming straight into Haf! The Blaziken grits his teeth against the pain, and eventually the attack ends. Haf slowly takes a step forward...

He's not paralyzed.

The Blaziken grins; with DBZ-like speed, he charges and slams a glowing fist into Gaia's torso. Not exactly what Dan had in mind, but the force of the blow is still enough to stun Gaia, knocking him over onto his back with a CRASH!. The iron snake appears dazed from the blow...

The battle continues - Dan's Blaziken, Haf, and MLG's Steelix, Gaia, fearlessly stare each other down, not taking their eyes off each other for a second as they're issued their commands again...

Haf starts the round off by leaping high into the air, flames dancing around his sturdy, powerful leg as he plummets at Gaia like a comet of flames...

Gaia, Confused though he is, still has enough sense to recede back into the ground, leaving Haf to fall and land in a shallow hole where the Steelix had dug...

Suddenly, the massive steel snake erupts from below Haf, wrapping his scalding body around the firebird before he even realizes it. Haf cries out as Gaia begins to apply pressure, pinning his arms and making any form of physical attack impossible.

Gaia smirks a sick smirk as he opens his jaws, revealing two rows of blunt teeth - all the better for grinding Haf's brains with! A black aura appears in Gaia's eyes as he clamps his jaws around Haf's head, causing the Blaziken to scream! The grotesque sound of bone beginning to crack and buckle rings out from Haf's head, filling his ears with a screeching sound that drowns out seemingly everything around him...

Haf, realizing he stands no chance against a Steelix's iron jaws, begins to close his eyes, when he feels an odd sense of lightness, like a weight has been removed from him. Is he dead?

...No, wait! It seems in Gaia's confused and somewhat cocky stupor, he has loosened the hold on his Bind, giving Haf just enough room to pull his arms free! The Blaziken's eyes open, furious flames welling in them. He clenches a fist...

Smack my bitch up!

WHOOM!

Gaia roars in pain as Haf's fist connects with his lower lip, shattering a few teeth and knocking the Steelix's jaw clean out of alignment!

Haf drops to the ground, a bit of blood actually dripping from his ear. He seems a little unnerved, but then again, his head was clamped in a 90-pound bear trap just a moment ago; he knows he'd best be careful in the future, or else...

Meanwhile, Gaia shakes his head, groaning in pain as he tries to realign his crooked jaw. He's gonna need braces... Maybe a few rolls of barb wire would work. Unfortunately for Haf, though, that blow to the jaw seems to have knocked some sense back into the senseless Gaia...

The battle between Dan and MLG rages on here in the Nightmare Canyon, with neither side letting up or showing any mercy. Both Pokemon will need some hefty medical treatment after this bout, but for now, Dan's Blaziken and MLG's Steelix endure, glaring at each other as they're issued their commands again...

Both Pokemon start the round off with a bang, or close to it - Gaia and Haf unleash groundbreaking screeches and ferocious roars at one another, both their ears as well as those of their Trainers ringing with pain as the Canyon begins to crack from the intense sound.

Overhead, Blademaster and his Metang read identical copies of War and Peace while wearing identical headphones playing identical Vivaldi.

Finally, the noise ends as Haf's and Gaia's throats give out - though they don't show it, Gaia has indeed flinched a bit and seems hesitant to attack now... Likewise, Haf seems to have lowered his guard a bit.

Haf glares at Gaia and takes a deep breath, drawing as much fire energy into himself as he can. Inside his body, just below his throat, a sack of compressed hydrogen opens slightly, exposed to two stony bones that scrape past each other, creating a spark...

FWOOOOOOOOOOM!!

Haf unleashes every last ounce of stored hydrogen, the combustible gas expanding and igniting at once, exploding into a huge fireball in Gaia's face! The Steelix roars in pain and falls back; above him, gas leaks in the stone canyon walls catch flame and ignite, sending blasts of fire streaming through the air before the gas explodes at its source, sending an avalanche of flame and stone down the canyon! Gaia looks up at the rocks; he grins and glows a deep brown, as do the rocks, which tumble past him and crash down on Haf, burying him alive!

Dan and MLG look on in silence as the debris settles... There is no movement.

Wait... something is moving...

Yes! Haf busts through the stone, his body covered in cuts and bruises. His breathing is labored and shallow, as though some pressure has still been applied to his chest...

Gaia, seeing an opportunity, lunges at Haf, who quickly glows a faint brown as he's struck and knocked back 10 yards. He crashes down hard, but at the same time, an invisible force slams into Gaia, sending the Steel serpent reeling and slamming into the canyon wall before collapsing in a heap.

Both Pokemon will need some hefty medical treatment after this bout, but for now, Dan's Blaziken and MLG's Steelix endure, glaring at each other as they're issued their commands for what could be the last time...

Somewhere further up in the canyon, the meddling Ace64 has stumbled onto the battle and decides to watch. He pulls out a bag of popcorn and begins to eat some... But that popcorn's too salty. Grumpily, Ace tosses the bag away...

Back at the bottom of the ravine, Haf clenches his fists and grits his teeth, focusing on the cuts covering his bruised body, his cracked skull, his fractured ribcag, the poison seeping through his bloodstream... Haf's wrists ignite, and he screams furiously, charging and leaping at Gaia...

But Gaia is prepared for this; he closes his eyes and begins to glow with a blinding sheen, as though he's just been coated with 361 tubs of turtle wax (Or maybe snake wax, I dunno.) Haf plants his devastating punch against Gaia's stomach with a CLANG!, shaking Gaia but not harming him. Haf wails in frustration and drops to the ground, running at the Steelix; said Steelix responds by opening his dislocated jaw just wide enough to strike; enduring the pain in his mandible, Gaia breathes a blast of yellow-green flames that envelops the charging Haf, knocking him back. Haf pauses, but his adrenaline is at its peak; he leaps with all his might, clasps his hands, and brings down the double fist right between Gaia's eyes!

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, Gaia - it tolls for thee...

The Steel Pokemon's eyes roll back in his head, which has actually cracked enough for the Steelix to bleed. What looks like liquid mercury seeps from the wound as Gaia hangs, suspended for just a moment, before toppling over and crashing to Earth. He's done.

Meanwhile, Haf backflips away from the point of impact and lands about five yards in front of his Trainer, who nods and smiles slightly at the Blaziken. Haf responds with a passive thumbs-up...

And then, he falls over on his face, the poison finally having taken him out.

Above the fallen combatants, Blademaster watches from astride his Metang, Roswell, when something hits the back of his head. The ref yelps and spins around, grabbing the bothersome object from the edge of Roswell's rim and looking at it.

'Hey...' he thinks with a smile. 'Free popcorn!'

The battle between Dan and MLG rages on here in the Nightmare Canyon, with neither side letting up or showing any mercy. The two are neck and neck right now, having each KO'ed each other at the same time last round. Dan recalls his fallen Blaziken, while MLG withdraws his beaten Steelix. Then, they send out their new Pokemon: Dan sends out a black-armored elephant roughly the size of a wheelbarrow, while MLG sends out a 7-foot brown bear with a grumpy look on his face and a tan ring around his belly. The two beastly Pokemon glare and snort at each other as they're issued their first sets of commands.

Largo, Dan's Donphan, starts the round off by curling into a large ball, though she looks more like a tire. He armor gleams a little as it hardens in the Sun, boosting her defense.

Meanwhile, Morpheus the Ursaring crosses his claw over his chest and spins in several tight circles, his muscles pumping as the wind whips around him, exciting his adrenaline before he ends the move, facing Largo with a smug look on his face.

Largo narrows her eyes and charges at Morpheus, rolling into a ball (tire) as she dashes at him, getting closer and closer...

But Morpheus simply raises his claws and then strikes them against the ground, Digging at high speed through the ravine floor. He ducks into the hole he's made, and Largo rolls right over him. She speeds around a nearby pile of stones, racing back for another pass as Morpheus climbs out of the hole. Largo zooms in, and then she abandons her Rollout, leaping into the air instead and coming down stomach-first on the Ursaring, who pulls back a fist. Ice dances around the bear's claws as he powers up his Ice Punch and then levels it at Largo's stomach, knocking the wind out of her and sending her crashing back into the ground.

You do know that ROllout raises 1/6 and Swordsdance attack with 2/6, so why do they both have +16%

Rollout raises in attack strength, not defense, which Defense Curl raised by 1/6. So, that's fine.

The moon has risen over the canyon as the second round of the battle between Dan and MLG rages, with neither side letting up or showing any mercy. The two are neck and neck right now, having each KO'ed one opposing Pokemon so far; now, Dan's Donphan, Largo and MLG's Ursaring, Morpheus are engaged in a fierce battle of brute force. Their referee watches from 40 feet overhead, astride his Metang; further up the canyon, Ace64 spectates, holding a pennant with 'MLG ROX!' on it in one hand and a hot dog in the other.

As darkness falls over the canyon, MLG and Dan issue their next sets of commands...

Morpheus starts the round off by picking up several massive boulders laying around the canyon in his powerful claws and hurling them at Largo; Largo responds by rolling in a ball/tire and spinning against the ground at high speed - she looks like Shadow the Hedgehog, actually... Regardless, the stones slam against her and for the most part are flung right off; one even comes flying back at Morpheus, slamming him in the cheek. The bear pauses...

And then, he pounds his chest furiously, like a gorilla! He charges at the spinning Donphan, pulling back a claw. The claw glows white as icy energy envelops it; just before it strikes Largo, the Donphan unwinds, her tail glowing a silver as it spins behind her. The icy fist slams into her back; a nanosecond later, her metallic tail slams Morpheus over the head. The large bear slams into the ground chin first; the thick-skinned elephant goes tumbling several yards down the canyon. She gets to her feet and faces Morpheus...

But Morpheus is not doing what she expected - he actually looks to be crying! Largo looks at Morpheus sympathetically, her command forgotten as she sees her once-proud opponent, who now looks like a big teddy bear.

Behind his claws, Morpheus smirks evilly...

Morpheus and Largo continue their ferocious melee here in Dan's Nightmare Canyon. MLG, the challenger, and Gym Leader Dan have been neck and neck this whole battle; now, as the Battle nears its second half, it's hard to say who has a better chance of walking away with victory under his belt.

The dark canyon, lit only dimly by the moonlight, is making it hard to see the battle...

Blademaster pauses and turns to Ace.

"Yo, Ace!" he calls. "Send out Firefly - we need some light!"

Further up the canyon, Ace nods and sends out his male Volbeat, who uses his famous 'Flying V' formation to cast multiple Tail Glows onto the canyon, providing some suitable spotlights. Now that's a little better...

Meanwhile, Dan and MLG issue their next sets of commands down below...

Largo begins by charging at Morpheus, not bothering to roll in a ball this time - she's taking the old-fashioned approach now, barreling down the canyon ready to gore Morpheus on her tusks.

But Morpheus isn't too keen on being impaled by an angry elephantess; he jumps back into the shallow hole he dug earlier and tunnels his way into the earth, moments before Largo thunders over where he stood. Largo pauses, and then she turns and looks around. Her eyes glow a faint grey; the rocks around her begin to shudder...

KER-POW!

Largo cries out as her opponent bursts up beneath her feet, socking her in the gut and sending her rolling. Largo growls and gets back up, bucking several boulders laying around at Morpheus.

But once again, Morpheus and his Trainer are prepared: Morpheus turns jet black and vanishes into the night, only to reappear behind Largo and deliver a savage kick to her back a second later.

Morpheus and Largo continue their ferocious melee here in Dan's Nightmare Canyon, both battlers neck and neck as the first half of the battle draws to a close. The dark canyon, lit by a series of Double Teamed Volbeat far overhead, would make for quite a shot for the scrapbook... Too bad the ref forgot his camera.

As the referee sulks overhead, Dan and MLG issue their next sets of commands down below...

Morpheus starts the round off by making a series of faces at Largo and barking insults at the Donphan, hoping to provoke her into a rage.

But before the Taunts reach Largo, a veil of white light envelops her body, protecting her from any attack for one round.

"Doo-fwa." she says, smugly turning away and raising her paw, as if to say 'Talk to the hand.'.

Morpheus jaw drops; frustrated, he rushes Largo, icy energy enveloping his claw as he pulls back his claw and socks the Donphan, delivering a crushing blow to her face...

...

That was a mistake - Largo's eyes glow red, and she mercilessly tackles Morpheus, biting and stomping him ferociously, her assault fueled by memories of the pain the Ursaring has caused her, her less-than-desirable childhood, the time Dan forgot to come to her dance recital, stuff like that. By the time Largo finally calms down, Morpheus is a wreck, brusied and bleeding from several places.

Slowly, Morpheus gets up and bellows angrily, pulling back his other paw and rushing at Largo. His fist glows a blinding white as it connects with Largo, whose body glows a faint brown...

CRACK!

Like in the movies, the blow comes through in slow motion as Largo is slammed in the face, one of her tusks snapping right off as she's slammed by the head-spinning punch. At the exact same time, Morpheus' cheek is pulverized by an unseen force; spit, blood, and broken teeth fly from his head as it is spun almost 180 degrees by the blow.

Largo goes flying a good 5 yards; Morpheus goes nearly ten, both Pokemon slammed into opposite canyon walls by the blow. Little Staryu spin around their heads as the woozy warriors slowly get back to their feet.

As Largo and Morpheus face each other down one last time, their Trainers give their commands.

Morpheus starts the round by making a goofy face at Largo and then turning around and slapping his backside cockily, hoping to provoke the Donphan into a rage.

Her should be careful what he wishes for - Largo howls and barrels across the field, slamming her head and unbroken tusk into the grizzly bear's stomach. Morpheus screams as his tender belly is pierced and he is knocked ten feet back from the blow. He slowly gets up, gasping for air...

And then, he rushes Largo, his fist surrounded by icy energy yet again. Largo rolls into a ball and drops on her side, spinning at high speeds. Morpheus' fist connects, but it is knocked aside by the furiously-spinning elephantess before it can cause any damage.

Morpheus looks nervously at his opponent as he is issued what could be his last set of commands. As both Pokemon are given their orders, Morpheus gulps silently as Savoonga glares at him, an icy mist spilling from his nostrils.

Savoonga starts the round by lowering his head and closing his eyes, making a plea to the water titan Kyogre for hail. Within a few moments, his prayer is answered, as small balls of ice begin to fall from the sky.

But at the same time, Morpheus has clasped his paws and made a silent request to the land titan Groudon for sunlight. Groudon cannot answer his plea for sunlight at night, but the great Continent Pokemon can offer him a bright, silvery moon, the sunlight refracting off of which disperses the hailstorm-causing clouds and nullifies Savoonga's attack.

The Walrein snorts in annoyance and opens his mouth, spitting a ball of ice the size of a baseball at Morpheus' head. The bear flinches slightly, but then he comes back, flames dancing around his fist as he charges at Savoonga and socks the ice monster in the face. Savoonga groans and falls back a few feet...

Well, gang, this is it! Dan's Blaziken and his Donphan have both been defeated, as have MLG's Steelix and Ursaring. Now, it's come to this...

Two Water Pokemon have entered this Canyon; only one will remain standing.

Two Trainers have entered this Canyon, as well; by the end of this round, only one will claim rights both to the Canyon itself and, far more importantly, the Sharp Edge Stone Badge.

Blademaster and his Metang, as well as Ace64 and his Volbeat further up the quarry, watch in silence as the final round begins...

Savoonga begins the round the same way he ended the last one - he opens his mouth and spits a chunk of ice roughly the size of a watermelon at Athene, who closes her eyes and focuses. In seconds, a white sheen envelops her body and then vanishes, leaving her protected from all status effects; a second later, the chunk of ice slams into her chest, but her resistance absorbs the brunt of the blow.

A tense moment passes as Savoonga waits for the slow Hermit Crab Pokemon to move. Athene, not really noticing the delay, puts her paws to her temples and concentrates, a bluish aura surrounding her body as her Psychic powers are amplified. Savoonga pauses, an evil smirk on his face...

And then, in true seal fashion, he rears up, clapping and barking for an Encore. Athene blushes slightly and puts her paws to her head again, repeating the move and amplifying her abilities even more.

But as she completes her display, Savoonga seems far less impressed - instead, he simply yawns. Athene, protected by the Safeguard as well as just naturally being oblivious, doesn't fall asleep, but she does look offended by Savoonga's rudeness...

Savoonga starts the round off by pushing himself up, flinging himself high into the air before crashing back down, shaking the entire canyon! Athene struggles to maintain her footing; she stops and glows white, vanishing before she takes any real damage.

Further up the canyon, Athene reappears, standing atop the lake like a divine figure. Her entire body glows a deep blue, as does the entire lake...

Back down the canyon, Savoonga waits patiently for his opponent to reappear. He sighs and looks at his watch (Don't ask me where he got it.), and then he looks back up, a faint roaring reaching his ears. He squints down the canyon.

And then, his eyes widen as a veritable tsunami crashes down, turning the canyon into a river! Savoonga is merely annoyed by the cascade - he feels more at home now, and he sees Athene perched atop the water. Grinning, Savoonga roars with enough force to shake the canyon walls, sending an avalanche tumbling into the river and slamming Athene mercilessly, knocking her under.

Underwater, Athene's eyes glow an eerie blue before fading; Athene kicks her way back to the surface...

And she's slammed by a furious tempest of ice, snow, and wind that freezes the lake around her! Good thing for that Safeguard, or she'd have been in some serious trouble...

Savoonga and Athene glare fiercely at one another - they both have a lot riding on this battle, and neither of them can afford any screw-ups. Both Trainers issue their commands; the round continues...

Athene begins the round by opening her jaws wide, gathering some of the nastiest bodily chemicals imaginable within herself and compressing them into a lump of deadly poison. She opens her jaws and spits the purplish glo at Savoonga...

But Savoonga is smarter than that; he quickly takes a breath and dives underwater, speeding down to the bottom of the river and taking in a large amount of mineral-rich water and ice in his mouth for later.

Up above, Athene squints into the murky water, trying to locate Savoonga, but she can't - his bluish fur blends in with the frigid water perfectly. Grunting in annoyance, Athene simply closes her eyes. Her body glows a light blue...

Moments later, Savoonga roars in pain down below as his brain is wracked by a stinging, jabbing pain, as though he has just swallowed a whole carton of ice cream at once.Savoonga begins slapping himself on the head, trying to dispel the pain, but seconds later a bright ball of energy flies out of nowhere and slams into Savoonga, flinging him against the riverbed.

Savoonga shakes his head and gets back onto his feet, or whatever they are; he closes his eyes and prays to the mighty Kyogre for hail...

Back on the surface, Athene amasses a large ball of crackling electricty in her hands and hurls it down into the water, moments before she is pelted on the head by several small chunks of ice. The blast of electrical energy surges through the water, much of it dispersed by both the moves poor aim and the massive amount of water conducting the blast around it, but a small amount of Thundershock-strength electricity manages to hit Savoonga. He groans in pain, but the canyon wall behind him at least serves as something of a ground, absorbing some of the shock.

Unfortunately, it didn't also absorb the side effects of that Zap Cannon...

Savoonga and Athene glare fiercely at one another - they both have a lot riding on this battle, and neither of them can afford any screw-ups. Both Trainers issue their commands; the round continues...

Savoonga, his muscles tense and unmoving, decides to let the water around him do the heavy lifting - he roars fiercely, and the water around him erupts into a massive cascade that washes over Athene, drowning out the Slowbro (Slowsis?) and, just for good measure, Savoonga crashes down on top of Athene, as well. Athene plummets like a stone, kicking her way back to the surface as fast as she can. She breaks the surface and takes in a deep breath; a lump of poisonous chemicals wells in her throat. She spits the glob at Savoonga...

At the same time, Savoonga spits a ball of concentrated water, ice, and minerals at Athene; the poison orb and the ball of water strike one another and splatter against each other. Drops of diluted poison spatter in the river and dissipate harmlessly.

Well, that was a bust.

Annoyed, Athene crosses her arms over her chest and glows white; a second later, she vanishes, and another second later, Savoonga screams in pain as he is struck in the back by a blast of 10,000 volts!

Unfortunately, Athene's trainer has obviously forgotten one fact - Athene is in the water now, too; the Zap Cannon strikes Savoonga, but then it feeds back, arcing through the water and electrocuting Athene as well!

As Athene groans in pain and sinks lower into the water, Savoonga's eyes glow a faint yellow; he spins around and slams his skull into Athene's stomach, sending her skipping over the water like a fat pink stone.

Savoonga and Athene glare fiercely at one another - they both have a lot riding on this battle, and neither of them can afford any screw-ups. Both Trainers issue their commands; the round continues...

The round starts off pretty uneventfully - Athene rolls on her back and puts her hands behind her head, gently bobbing in the water like a pink buoy, and Savoonga rolls over and falls asleep altogether! The walrus begins to snore softly, a bubble expanding and contracting from his nose...

Just then, before anything else happens, the Canyon suddenly goes dark. Dan, MLG, and the ref look up overhead and see an exhausted Firefly drop down beside his Trainer, his clones vanishing and his tail light fading. The Volbeat pants and collapses onto Ace's lap, his energy exhausted. Ace smiles warmly and pats the tuckered-out Bug warmly before turning his attention back to the battle.

Concerned about the lack of light, the ref looks down at his Metang.

"Flash."

The Metang's eyes glow like searchlights, projecting two beams of light down over the river and lighting things up a little more. It's not completely illuminated, but at least we can see what's going on again.

Meanwhile, nothing exciting his happened down in the river - Athene is still floating around laxly, and Savoonga is still snoozing. The ice monster opens his jaws and emits a sharp bark that disturbs Athene, making her ears ring a bit.

Unaware of what's going on, Savoonga repeats the move, nearly giving Athene a heart attack. She rolls back over and glares at Savoonga, Yawning softly - she knows the move will have no effect on a Sleeping Pokemon, but between the soft splashing of the water, her dozing opponent, and the dimly lit night sky, she is beginning to feel drowsy herself.

As the round ends, a near-invisible white aura around Athene's body flickers and vanishes.

Well, this round is gonna be pretty slow...

Again, Athene lays in the water languidly, recovering some of her energy. Savoonga, in the meantime, mumbles in his sleep; a moment later, in an amazing display of irony, he unleashes a bellowing Snore that shakes, rattles, and rolls Athene.

The Slowsis growls and rubs her ears, rolling over. She begins to conjure more electrical energy in her hands, but then she stops. She remembers what happened last time... Cautiously, she swims over to a mass of floating ice and climbs atop it. In the meantime, Savoonga mutters in his sleep again; a pink aura surrounds his body as well as Athene's.

Athene faces her enemy and begins her attack... Wait, what's this? She's stopped?

Yes, Athene is staring dreamily at the sleeping sea lion, almost like... she's Attracted to him! Unable to deep-fry the object of her desire and with no other means to attack, she spends the rest of the round staring goofily at Savoonga, who merely mumbles and Yawns in reply.

Athene starts off the round by resisting her carnal urges and focusing on an attack. Her eyes glow blue, as does Savoonga's body as energy is leached from the walrus and into Athene. Savoonga groans and thrashes, but he doesn't wake up. Meanwhile, Athene sighs in content as some of her injuries begin to heal...

...And then she succumbs to Savoonga's yawn and dozes off.

Meanwhile, Savoonga grumbles in his sleep and rolls over...

And then, to the shock of both battlers, the ref, and their spectator, Savoonga perfectly Mimics Athene's last attack! Athene moans as her energy is stolen and drawn into Savoonga's sleeping form...

And then, Savoonga lays still, his energy exhausted at last by such a powerful attack.

Somewhere in the background, a wrestling bell dings three times.
