[3/2] Do you watch reality TV shows? If so, what do you watch, and why did you pick those shows over the dozens of others? If not, why don't you watch them? What do you think about reality TV in general?

The only one I've ever paid much attention to was American Idol, and only a couple of times. A couple of years ago, I watched it just because Carrie Underwood was a competition favorite (and because Oklahoma is usually ignored). This year, I'm watching because I sort of know one of the contestants. But in general, reality shows are horrid... I just can't stand stuff like Survivor. It's not reality, it's a million-dollar joke! I'd watch Lost if I wanted to see people fighting the elements and each other in the wild. And I don't watch Lost.

May I have two MGs?

[3/2] Do you watch reality TV shows? If so, what do you watch, and why did you pick those shows over the dozens of others? If not, why don't you watch them? What do you think about reality TV in general?
I don't watch them because I don't like them. Almost everything in them is prearranged and some people seem to go crazy about them, caring more about the daily lives of the scandal makers than their own. I don't like that. I think public castings (like American idol and the likes are supposed to be) could be ok if they were handled differently, but it seems to me it's all about finding out who's the biggest prostitute. And that's not something I enjoy at all.

MG, please.

Amy, if you read this, please contact me. Thanks.

3rd March 2007, 01:08 PM
My MP: Sunflora, Weepinbell
Question #4/Guess: Is the Mystery Pokemon Weepinbell?

Gabi: *gasps* Are you calling Taylor Hicks a prostitute? Just kidding, although Hicks is from my hometown and he's not even that attractive. Anyway, you get a Solar Gem as your MG and Destiny Bond as your EMT.

The Blue Avenger
4th March 2007, 11:32 AM
I'll play the fishing game, spaces A1, B2, C3, and scratchcards, spaces 1, 5, 9, for green MGCoins.

[3/2] Do you watch reality TV shows? If so, what do you watch, and why did you pick those shows over the dozens of others? If not, why don't you watch them? What do you think about reality TV in general?
No, I don't. It's really more of a lack of watching TV in general than anything I have against reality TV - although I do think they're rather stupid and bring out the worst in some people.

Lady Vulpix
4th March 2007, 12:09 PM
Actually... I'm not calling Taylor Hicks anything. He may or may not be one, I don't know him. I just keep hearing the same things from people who talk about those shows.
Now why did I have to get Destiny Bond as my EMT? I can't see any of my adopted pokemon using it, and it's not allowed at the Battle Tower. Does anyone want it?

Shonta: no, sorry.

Jeff: FG: Hollow Stone, Crystal Key, Hollow Stone. I'm assuming you're paying 3 MG credits for these.

[3/5] Do you watch the news on television? If so, what stations do you usually watch? Do you prefer local, national, or world news programs? If not, why not? Is there some reason that you avoid news programs? Do you have some other way of learning the events of the day?

It's definitely been at least a year since I last watched a news program (aside from checking for school cancellations and picking up a few words while walking through a room). I've grown tired of them, frankly. They all seem so biased; many of them swing way toward the left (CNN, CBS, NBC, etc.) while the "impartial" Fox News leans just as far right. Heck, I watch The Daily Show more often than any news network, merely because I can take their laughable arguments as a comedy routine rather than fact.

These days, I get most of my news from the internet. At least that way, I have a chance of picking up something whose biases are hidden enough that I can delude myself into thinking the article is impartial. With today's television news, such self-delusion is totally impossible.

I don't watch them because they tend to show only bad news and be very graphic about it. I sometimes read the newspaper, or overhear something on the radio, but more often than not I learn about the current news by talking to people and listening to others talk.

MG, please.

[3/6] Are you still in schooling? If so, what do you think about it? Is it enjoyable or not? Do you think it is useful? What would you change about it if you could? If not, do you remember it as being enjoyable? Do you think it has been useful for you? What do you wish would have been different about your educational experience?

Yeah, I'm in college now. Most of it is probably useful, although some of it... um, isn't. And I'm not talking about the joke with a history degree being totally useless. I have a problem with being required to take courses that have nothing to do with my degree plan. Sure, when you're in elementary through high school, you need a grounding in a wide variety of areas. That also helps you identify your interests. But in my understanding, college is for taking those interests and applying them to fields of study rather than having further exploration. A prospective engineer having to take a bunch of art courses is ridiculous, and vice-versa.

That, incidentally, would be what I would change about college if I was given the opportunity. Let's not get into primary education, because I could write a book on that.

May I have 2 MGs?

Lady Vulpix
7th March 2007, 04:26 AM
Jeff: the die is yours.

Brian: 2 Stamps/CCPs, Red MGcoin. Interesting, I would have loved to have the chance of taking an art course at university, but here everything is specialized at that stage.

[3/6] Are you still in schooling? If so, what do you think about it? Is it enjoyable or not? Do you think it is useful? What would you change about it if you could? If not, do you remember it as being enjoyable? Do you think it has been useful for you? What do you wish would have been different about your educational experience?
Not since I graduated from university. Each of the stages had good and bad parts, but overall I'm satisfied with it, and it has definitely been useful in more than one way. There were some teachers I particularly disliked, like one of my English teachers in primary school and quite a few others in high school and university, and some hateful classmates, but I have no complaints about the system in general.

Yes, unfortunately. And it's taking a toll on my sanity. Although it's useful, it would be even more so if the teachers and students would stop leaving. My advanced classes are so small they don't even feel like classes. But for now this is the best I can do since Birmingham-Southern was so expensive.

[3/13] Do you play the Advanced Generation Pokemon games? If so, which ones do you own? Have you beaten any of them? What's your best Pokedex completion level? If not, why not? Is there some reason you've stopped playing the games?

I own all five of the GBA games (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald) as well as Colosseum. Out of those, I've beaten all except FireRed and Ruby. My best Pokedex completion level is 314, achieved on Emerald. (I believe my National Dex completion level is 205 or so.) I'm hoping to get XD soon, and that should help.

[3/13] Do you play the Advanced Generation Pokemon games? If so, which ones do you own? Have you beaten any of them? What's your best Pokedex completion level? If not, why not? Is there some reason you've stopped playing the games?

Yes, I have only one and that is Pokemon Sapphire. I haven't beaten Sapphire bcause I constantly keep up on restarting it. It is a quirk that comes with me playing video games.

[3/14] Have you ever been a game show? How was it like? If you haven't, what game show would you like to be on?

I haven't but I am very good at games so I would either want to be on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire or Wheel of Fortune.

3 MGs please.

Final Question: Is this Pokemon a Ho-oh? I'll take a Blue MGcoin if I'm right.

[3/14] I've never been on a game show, mostly because I was too young until recently. I'd love to be on Millionaire, as I think I'd do well on that program. The new lifelines they've added may or may not make it easier; either way, I think I could at least make it to the second milestone. Wheel of Fortune has way too much to do with luck, and I'm not a lucky person. Gabi said it herself, so it must be true! ^_^ And besides, most of the other shows aren't rewarding enough. Some of the most brilliant people in the world win Jeopardy and get a mere pittance.

May I have an MG?

Yeah, we did. Or at least, I did. Life's been very hectic lately... when my classes ended today, I'd been awake for 34 hours straight. And it wasn't by choice this time.

[3/21] What time of day do you usually get up? Do you get up then by choice, or is it because of some obligation? If you had a choice, when would you get up?

I think I created a hard question for myself, because it varies drastically from day to day. Some days I wake at 8 a.m., while others it's 8 p.m. Either way, I have to be awake for morning classes, which are around 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. I guess I most frequently wake at about 9 p.m. and then stay awake until my classes are done. And that's by choice... I'm about as far from a morning person as you can get.

I'll sell those two gems, that berry, another Flame Gem, 2 Hollow Stones, and an Ocean Gem for stamps.

3/24 Do you watch webcomics? What is your favorite? Have you ever decided to make a webcomic?

I read a lot: Dominic Deegan, Nuklear Power, Dr. McNinja, Megatokyo, Least I Could Do, Something Positive, Penny Arcade, VGCats, sequentialart... I also make a sprite comic. I'd draw it, but I lack the skills of an artist. :P

[3/25] Have you ever cheated on a test? If so, what test was it? Why did you do it? If not, why not? Have you ever been tempted to cheat? Do you know anyone who cheats on tests?

I've never cheated on an exam, myself. First of all, I'm sure if I did I'd botch it so badly that my fate would be a lot worse than a mere bad grade. Second, it really doesn't make sense to me... what good does cheating do? Maybe it sounds a little cliched, but it seems to me that if you slide through school without learning anything, it doesn't matter what your grades say. You haven't acquired a thing. And finally, I've rarely felt the need for an extra edge like that. Sure, I've bombed my share of tests, but I've usually recovered from them. And the grades I've blown were pretty much all in elective classes that I dropped soon after the catastrophy.

I recently met someone, however, who has absolutely no qualms with cheating - from the impression I got, he does so regularly. The guy's literally a friend of a friend; he and I are distant acquaintances at best. Anyway, I saw him at lunch awhile back with our mutual friend. This friend left for a little while to order some food, and the acquaintance outright told me he was going to cheat on the test he had in his next class because he hadn't studied. He even said how he was going to do it; he brought a jacket with him and planned on keeping some notes inside of it. I had a bit of a hard time hiding my surprise at his openness, frankly. And I have to wonder if our mutual friend knows about his cheating ways.

[3/26] Do you pay attention to competitive sports events? If so, what are your favorite sports to watch? Do you have any least favorite sports? What teams do you like or dislike the most? How much time and energy do you spend on sports? If not, why not? Do you dislike sports in some way, or are you unable to watch sports for whatever reason?

I watch a few. Baseball's probably my biggest sporting passion; I used to be pretty good at it, and it's kind of it my family's heritage. (My dad was an all-star in college, actually.) I can't help but root for the St. Louis Cardinals; not only is that my family's origin, but they're the team most capable of challenging the hated NY Yankees for dominance. (I believe the Yanks have won the World Series 26 times; St. Louis is second with 10.)

The Yankees tend to load teams with superstars, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to do it - and yet they still have a tendency to lose more often than you'd expect, largely due to a perceived lack of teamwork and motivation. While St. Louis spends a fair amount on quality players, it's not anywhere near the bill for New York. We also love the Cardinals; national commentators often remark that St. Louis is a great baseball town with fans who appreciate their team and who are highly knowledgable about the game.

I watch a little bit of football, although not nearly as much as my dad does; it's not a priority for me, and it's honestly a bit more brutal than the finesse that baseball provides. I'll also watch basketball - but only at the college level! I used to watch the pro game constantly, but numerous scandal and the absurdity of the game (learn to play some defense!) have pushed me away from it. Further, I really don't care for auto racing (chess is more of a sport than driving a car in circles), golf (I'll play it, but watching it is dull), horse racing (I don't want to think about those whips hitting the horses as "incentive"), hockey (don't get me started), and a few more obscure sports.

Still, I do spend a fair amount of time following sports in general. While I can usually multitask with it while doing other things, I tend to focus a lot more during March Madness (college basketball) and the Major League Playoffs (pro baseball). Even then, it probably doesn't drain away more than an hour or two a day, and since those are the high points of the year, I don't think I'm obsessed or anything. I'm just a fan.

How much time and energy do you spend on sports? If not, why not? Do you dislike sports in some way, or are you unable to watch sports for whatever reason?
I don't watch sports because I don't find them interesting, and I find the fanatism that often revolves around some of them rather scary. I may play some sports games once in a while among friends, but I get nothing out of watching them.

MG, please.
