For some reason, my laptop is choosing to not read my disc drive. I have absolutely no idea why, but when I try to play a cd, I get this;

"A disc drive is needed to play cds"

Thing is, it's always worked before, and I know that I haven't gone on a random fit of uninstalling things again. And my disc drive is still, you know, there. So I'm at a loss. Why is it doing this, and how can I get it to read my disc drive again? ARGH! Please help meeee!!

I'll restart and see if that works, then edit in the results...

EDIT: No, it's still not working. I put in a cd and it whirred for a bit, but when I tried to play it in windows media, it came up with the same message again. Also, it doesn't show up next to the hard drive in My Computer. I'm confuuused!!

If it is a laptop, you should be able to physically remove the cd- rom drive and push it back in again.
