Stephen Colbert: I am running for president (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/17/colbert.president.ap/index.html?section=cnn_latest)

I'm honestly astonished that no one else created this thread first.

Apparently, this isn't a hoax - or at least not a complete one, as farcical as it may turn out to be. Stephen Colbert has decided to run in South Carolina, although it's not clear whether he will be on the ballot in any other state. That may largely be determined by how far he wants to take the joke... or if this is actually an extraordinarily daring political strategy. After all, think about how foolish his opponents would look if they advertise against him... a comedian, of all people! If they're caught between trying to eliminate Colbert and trying to ignore his presence, things could get tricky.

It'll be interesting to see if Colbert actually does well. He's become a household name in some areas, to a much greater degree than others like Mitt Romney or Joe Biden. It's quite possible that his presence could have a significant influence on the race beyond forcing the candidates to watch their comments more closely. If Colbert manages to take a decent percentage of the votes, he could actually change the outcome of the primaries (or, dare I say it, the general election).

Discuss!

Wasn't there a movie about this just a few years back with Robin Williams? Political Comedian runs for President, accidently wins, and then realizes that the real thing is a whole lot harder.

Roy, actually he only won due to a (unrealistic) computer glitch and gave it up because he felt it was the right thing to do.

Anyway, Colbert running for president is a humorous concept, but I don't think it will go anywhere.

They're now talking that if he actually runs for President on a serious campaign level, he'll be running illegally because Doritoes is sponsoring him and it is illegal to be sponsored by a company. <Like owning an oil is much better...> Plus him being a show and technically sponsored by "Comedy Central" is considered illegal.

Stupid technicalities. I say turn the political race into something like NASCAR- sow in sponsorship plugs on their suits! Capitalism ftw! XD XD XD <-- is not being serious.

If it came down between him and hilary, he definately has my vote!

If it came down to a brick wall or her I'd vote for the wall. I have nothing against a female president but for the love of god let it be anyone but her. That woman strikes me as being pure fucking evil.

You mean like her being a evil manipulative bitch who has been planning this since the late 90s, and would sell anything down the river to get in the White House? Or how she pretty much has her own secret police that threatens anyone that stands in her way? Or how she has policies that would bankrupt this country and put us in a socialist hell hole that we would never be able to crawl out of?

Edit:...Oh my god...think of all the Hilary Porn that will come out if she gets in 0.0

More to the elusive Rule 34? Dear God, no.

While I don't agree with many of the Republican candidates out there, that doesn't mean I'm supporting Hillary. If you think about it, she's only running because she honestly feels she has what it takes, being the previous First Lady and all. There was nothing wrong with the Clinton presidency, yet those factors are dismissed because of the whole scandal involving Lewinsky. The economy wasn't even falling until after that started, much like the economy is now with the war. But before you get me wrong, it's perfectly normal.

Yet Hillary is willing to add more to an already insane amount of taxes and thus the divide between rich and poor grows.

If anything, Poll's Closed due to Obama, I'll say.

Except for the whole thing with letting the rise of Islamic Terrorism grow under his watch, losing any chance to catch Osama, and dismantling America's army when war was on the horizon...

Well as Hillary has said, she has more ideas than this country can afford.

The thing is Obama will probably institute many of Hillary's policies that will hurt this country even more. Such as higher taxes, and Free Health Care for all. The difference is Hillary is pretty much the embodyment of evil, and Obama is a likeable guy that just doesn't have the experience.

:p I try not to, but his Presidency led to so many problems we deal with now. I cannot even stand the idea of him or his wife any where near the White House. I mean I seriously would take John Edwards over him/her/it.

Really think he wouldn't cancel it if his running starts to have some hope? Schwarzenegger gave up his movie career after he won the recall in California.

I'm so sad Colbert didn't get to be on the SC ballot, that would've been so awesome, he would've probably have been the best candidate. Face it, the other candidates are all pitiful pieces of shit who fight to the death to avoid the painstaking process of having opinions. I was pretty annoyed watching the Republican debate because all these fools did was lob shit at each other like so many retarded monkeys in a zoo. So depressing. Look at Giuliani and Romney with their little "this man won't let me speak!" bitchfits or the whole Huckabee incident with just because Chuck Norris supports Huckabee I will vote for him just because the best part of waking up isn't Folgers in your cup, it's that Chuck Norris didn't kill you in your sleep bullshit, the Republican presidential race has just gone down the shithole.
