I was really tempted to include the word 'muslim' or 'islamic' in that title but knew that would throw open a whole can of worms not relating to the case in general.

The bases is
- English Teacher on a posting to a school in Sudan to assist teaching there.
- During a class project she asks the children what name they should give a Teddybear. The consesus is 'Mohammed' and she allows it.
- Despite none of the parents having a problem with it one Muslim teacher decides to complain and all of a sudden there is a problem due to the parents and guardians not being happy.
- She is held in custody pending trial for Insulting Islam, the punishment set at 15 days imprisonment or 40 Lashes.
- Now they have had to move her to a secret location due to protests outside the prison, many of the protesters wielding weapons, demanding the Death Pentalty.

And then they wonder why the world has such a poor view in general of that area of the world when all we see is irrational blood thirsty psycho's blowing their tops about every minor infringement.

I said it before over the whole Muhammad cartoons nonsense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jyllands-Posten_Muhammad_cartoons_controversy) and I'll say it again:

The idiots who are wasting their time with death threats and calling the West evil and decadent are no better than a bunch of chimps bashing sticks and rocks on the ground.

Seriously, it is the 21st century. Just...grow the fuck up already.

Everytime one asshole who lives in Africa or the Middle-East feel that they have been aggrieved by the West, it all just blows up and suddenly thousands of primates start hooting and squawking like anyone gives a shit about what they think. It just isn't funny. How the hell does this stuff work? Lets say I was going to the store to get some milk and saw my friend holding a burning flag, is this what actually happens?

"Hey, guess what?"
"What?"
"Some infidel has called a teddy bear Muhammed."
"GET. THE. FUCK. OUT."
"No. Seriously dude."
"God...Goddamn. Right, give me a flag and a lighter. I'm going to take a week off work just to act like an ape."

And to make matters worse, it's these morons who are in the wrong in the first place. The bear was named Muhammed. Muhammed is one of the most popular given names in the world. Check it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_%28name%29#Statistics). More than 15 million people in the world bear the name (no pun intended). Yet as soon as a white woman lets a class of Sudanese children name the bear Muhammad (remember, she didn't choose the name, her dipshit class did), suddenly it's an attack by the West on Islam? That is ridiculous. Racist, and ridiculous. I doubt if the teacher was Sudanese there would have been any controversy, but no. It's because she is a white Westerner.

Despite the fact that two of the most important tenets of Islam are peace amongst all of humanity and to love non-Muslims as you would a Muslim, I guess there are still idiots out there who want to piss on their holy prophet's vision just so they can go tar and feathering. Disgusting.

Allowing a group of children to name a beloved symbol of joy and happiness after the prophet of a religion that you don't even worship properly!? Blasphemy! Burn the witch! Burn her at the stake and feed her barbecued carcass to the jackals! Allah demands it!

Considering the case, I doubt anyone would care if you included "Islamic" in the title.

Telling people that have Islamic law as the law of their country to grow up, does about as much use as pissing in the wind. Becuase they will never ever grow up.

You have a society that is so full of hatred, so barbaric, and so backwards that I really don't think it is ever possible to understand it. I mean these people treat women in the same class of property. ( Which brings up the whole court case of the girl that got raped in Saudi Arabia and recieved 200 lashes for the rape. That is after her brother tried to kill her ).

Really we should just cut off all contact with this area of the world. Except for Isreal you pretty much have a land full of well as the topic is called "Psychopaths". There is no real way to deal with them, they have laws, that are 600 to 800 years out of date. Until they as a society realize that, and step out of the ugly shadow the Koran casts upon their culture, then crap like what is happening to this poor woman will keep happening.

And what is really sad, is that there is no where in the world she can go now. You will have nuts that will hunt her down becuase they believe she insulted "The Profit." Yet the people that will try to kill her, and are protesting to kill her, do not realize that they are doing a hell of a lot more damage to their religion than any word and any Teddy Bear can do.

See i just dont get where the hell theyre coming from.
Theyre laws may be out of date but come on. This site has seen a great many debates over the years though i cant imagine a single rational person agreeing with this viewpoint to make it a debate etc.

How can so many people just go completely insane in the eyes of the world and get away with it. By their logic (not that there is any) then the Kids, and to an extent their guardians, as well as anyone who has ever spoken to them is just as responsible for making them think its ok to take the prophets name in vain etc.

And over here its them that are the first to start screaming about racism.
Like the possible banning of Christmas Trees, lights, decorations and even renaming of Christmas to X-mas incase our religion offends them.
It wasnt long ago that we had a case of one Muslim woman, teaching in England insisting she be able to wear her veil during class due to religious beleifs. Now the veil is not a religious thing anyway, its a marker of property by her husband (only he can see her face etc so as not to tempt any other men ((see Roy's comment about the rape story)). This story was national news. It was mental with her saying that she was being oppressed.
Soon goes the other way doesnt it. Over here, "off with your veil" over there, "Off with your head"

Im all for tougher sentences (though dunno how tough, start a new debate for that one) but surely the death penalty is reserved for murders etc
I dont wanna run the risk of being stoned to death for farting in the wrong key.

Hahah unbelievable. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who are offended by everything and see everything as a racist attack on their culture. That's what you get when people haven't studied math enough, they become uncivilized barbarians :)

If you're going to flog a woman just for appeasing a class that includes Muslim students by letting them name their class "pet" after a religious figure, sounds like we now have reason to gas people like Muhammad Ali and the next Jesús that you pick up off the streets.

I also love how 4chan gave Pedobear a new name relative to this issue.

This was a stupid situation, she should have not named the teddybear at all.

Well, why not? Do you name your Pokemon? Haha. I named all my teddy bears when I was little... really dorky names, too, like Sunshine and such... despite the fact they almost inevitably participated in mortal combat...

Word to that. I was always disappointed when none of my Teddy Bears gained the ability to transform into a dragon and bite the other one's head off though. Or to rain fire on the other, as what should've been the case with the teddy bear I named Allah.
