how can you view old attachments from 2/3 years ago? or can you not?

I would say they've all been deleted and are unlikely to come back. Your best bet I guess would be to try archive.web.org or whatever the address is but even I doubt they will appear in the archive. I'm not sure why it was decided they should be deleted but clearly they were wasting space or something like that. Its unfortunate but thats the way it goes I guess.
