Okay, I figured this was important enough that it could go beyond the "Daily News" thread.

BCS ready to take first steps toward playoff? (http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=802242&PT=4&PR=2)

The arguments for and against a BCS playoff have been debated backwards and forwards; I'm not going to rehash them here unless people don't know. But this is the first time a serious proposal has been made for change.

The question is whether it will change anything. As the article's sidebar notes, "Commissioners of the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Big East all have stated publicly they're interested in examining the plus-one model, which essentially is a four-team playoff. The question is if those conferences will move forward without the support of the Big Ten and Pac-10, staunch opponents of the plus-one model and anything else that resembles a playoff."

So four of the six are "interested in examining" a change. The others... well, they may just have to be overruled unless the other big conferences really do some strong persuading.

What do you think? Is this a transition point? Can we expect changes soon? Or is this another red herring designed only to spark controversy once again? Discuss.

EDIT: ...

Well, that was fast. (http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1144&CID=803250)
