So, I know a lot of people that get inked. In fact besides my dad (who has plans to get ink soon) and my youngest brother (who isnt old enough yet) Im the only one in my family that hasnt gotten a tattoo yet. Some of the tats my family members have gotten have special meaning (like my brother got his sons name and birth date tattooed over his heart, and my sister got the words "Father is God in the eyes of a child" and my dads name tattooed on her arm), while some are there just to look cool (like my other sisters cross based on the manga Priest on her arm, and my brothers half naked slutty chick >.>).
Some people see tattoos as trashy and classless while others see it as turning their body into a work of art and immortalizing something on themselves that will serve as a living monument to something special. What do you all think? Would you get any tattoos yourself and if so, what would they be?
I had thought about it long and hard for a few years and I think Ive finally decided to go for it, since for my birthday my brother had offered to pay for me to get one. The one I was planning on getting is this on my right shoulderblade, about 3 inches tall:

And Im one of those people where it has to mean something else I cant see marking myself with it forever. This tattoo will be one half of a full tattoo that wont be fully finished until later, and its meaning is a secret >.>
I also want to get a small tattoo of a firefly, and that meaning is also personal, but the final tattoo I want to get one day will be my family's crest, and all 4 of my siblings expressed interest in getting the same thing so itll be like a family tat <3

I have a black rose on my right arm with my initials around it and on my left is a work in progress that my brother and I both have.

I don't have any yet, but I'm planning on getting one of Hello Kitty holding a camera once I finish my Photography degree. I've loved HK since I was about 4, so it'd work out perfectly =D

I like well done tattoos. I hate overplayed (chinese/japanese words, tramp stamps, arm bands) or tiny and overly simple (paw print, little flying bird, music note) or trendy (anime, furry, video game, band logo). I like big elaborate designs with a whole bunch of stuff in there. A lot of sleeves and back tattoos are pretty cool. I'm all for "go big or go home".
I have nothing planned for myself but am not closed to the idea of a big tattoo for me. I'm just not creative enough / don't care enough to really plan something out at this point. I prefer piercings :) (which I also have nothing planned right now so eh)

I began the ninth grade (the final grade in Finnish yläaste) with a Pokemon tattoo on my forehead. I had just began to study Japanese again, had forgotten 'the western bitches' for Japanese women and found myself so cool. I didn't know that I was wrong as Finnish girls are cute, too. I also thought they wouldn't bully me because I was older than those immature 7th and 8th graders. Still, even when I was in lukio, the people in yläaste yelled me "Pokemon!" but that didn't feel like bullying.

Me and my friend are thinking of Triforce tattoos on our left hands, his is going to be power and mine is courage. We just need someone for wisdom any takers?

Iiiiif I got a Tatto *looks about for Blademaster paranoidly* I would get a Dark Mark like I squwaked about earlier. I'd be like "Oh! My mark hurts sooo much. Gotta skip this meeting. The Dark Lord is calling."
:3 Oh yes.
I personally think they're art.

I don't mind tattoos, my parents think they're for thugs so they'd kill me if I got one.
However, while I do like tattoos, I don't think you should turn yourself into a living canvas.
1 tat is FINE, but 20 or more is waaaaay overkill.

And I'm for Articuno. No, actually I don't wan't to have a tattoo, t-shirts and kimonos suffice.
One argument against tattoos is that they don't look good after some decades but then there are people who say you don't look so good after decades anyway. I think neither of these are right.

Are you sure it was an actual tattoo? Like, was it temporary, or did you actually ink it? Your Facebook picture doesn't look like there's anything Pokemon on it...
I hate trite tribal tattoos. I live in the most Italian-American community in the United States, and there are SO many guidos with shit guido tribal tattoos and shit guido spray tans and shit guido hairdos. You'd be surprised how much sameness there is, even though I'm Italian myself I can't justify spiking my hair and wearing clothes that are far too small for me.

Oh yeah, they aren't real tattoos, just pictures you print on your skin, I don't know what they are called. You can take them off by washing. Normally you just put them on your hand or something, but I put the "Pokémon" text on my forehead.

I have a tattoo; it's about the length of a pen, and is an intricate, tribal design I actually drew myself. I went in and asked if they'd do a design I made myself, and the girl liked it, and a few weeks later I got it done.
People do raise an argument that tattoos can look samey and generic. I don't think getting a tattoo lies purely in the individualism of the design. People who get lip rings or eyebrow piercings are getting the same thing done. Heck someone right now is probably wearing a white ralph lauren polo with a pair of chocolate coloured cargo shorts and flips like I am. But the individualism argument is watered down since I made mine myself.
I think getting a tattoo is about the look in equal measures as it is about the feeling, the process, and the significance behind it.
I am quite anti-piercing though, which is weird.

While I still think you'd look better without a tat Bran that one just seems fitting for you. Don't forget to post a pic once you've got it ^_~
Edit-Heh......this is the post to make me elite......only took me 3278 days! lol

Still undecided on a tattoo, personally. I mean, it's kind of a one-way street, and as a hopeful actor it's best that I leave myself as much of a blank canvas as possible. It's not like a deal-breaker, but I'm yet to find enough pros to outweigh the cons.
My urge for a tattoo comes and goes fairly frequently... A week or so ago, I really wanted to get a 9 to honour the memory of Steve McNair, but now I see the futility of inking my body to honour a man I've never met. A tattoo definitely has to mean something, and I'm still yet to find that something that I'd be willing to brandish to the world forever.
