Let's discuss some Pokemon music for a change.

As far as games are concerned, my favourites are both the regular and special (gym etc.) battle themes. I think the Pokemon game soundtracks are above average videogame soundtrack, but perhaps not as good as, say, Nobuo Uematsu's best Final Fantasy pieces.

Out of the anime soundtracks, I like most the Japanese Kanto Battle Frontier intro Spurt!! Both visually and melodically. Sekai no hirosatte!! Also all the remixes of Mezase Pokemon Masutaa, OK! and Ready Go! are often on my playlist. And let's not forget Raikou special song Aratanaru Chikai.

My least favourite Japanese intro must be Advance Adventure. It sure rocks visually, Absol and all that, but I find the instrunmental performance just boring.

I like also the dub songs, although not as much as the Japanese ones, as you may guess. I have watched Pokemon dubs maninly in English, Finnish and Swedish, and none of the songs are too bad.

One more piece must be mentioned, and that's Lugia's song, The Legend Comes to Life from the second movie. I have been able to play it on piano, though I'm not sure if I still can.

For me, most of the best music is actually found in the spinoffs. My favourite is the GBC Pokemon Trading Card Game's Club Leader theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgMHWxN2U_w). It really makes you think of an epic battle... not a couple of people playing a card game. Heh.

Pokemon Pinball on GBC had some pretty good tunes; the blue field catch 'em music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBgpZ8MleSg) is about the only one I can find right now, but there are some good ones.

Pokemon Puzzle Challenge was fairly vanilla for music, though I do dig the Goldenrod City remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_d9iLoX3H0&feature=related).

And to show you that I'm not just slurping the GBC, I also thought it was great the way they used '2 B A Master' tracks in Puzzle League... Favourite is Erika (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5eyiLlqH4U), but I dig Surge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR79XWfTeUM) too. Think that one came from the anime.

Serebii in BMG's chatroom said that there is something called a GB Player in HG/SS that allows you to listen/switch to original gameboy music.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhdj-nl4X9M&feature=channel). One of my favorite tunes from GSC, and HG/SS did an awesome job with it.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efs8VKZJUU0) is another good one from HG/SS.

The gym theme is also among my all-time favorite tunes from the games, I really like the SSBB version.

I don't know about games music but the anime, especially the original Japanese version has some freaking awesome songs like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taSEIqnHghk
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ezwo6Foiwg

That's why i seriously think of watching the tenth season in it's original version. "Good good smile" is way better than the "rap" thing that they have in the English dub.

Pokémon has few really memorable music pieces in my opinion. The music is just average, you barely notice it whether in a good nor negative way. The most memorable ones are the Kanto pieces simply because I've played those games more than all the others. Especially the "riding the bike" theme is still stuck in my mind. Oustanding as far as I'm concerned are the R/S/E Gym Leader battle theme and Champion Synthia's battle theme in D/P/P.

From the anime I liked "Pokémon World" (the Orange Islands journey intro) best as well as "The Power of One" from Pokémon 2.

Blademaster, I know this will probably result in more facepalms, but I must add Nobuo Uematsu has both good and bad pieces. There are several musics I find much worse than Pokemon music, to be honest. That still isn't bad, since Pokemon music is high above average. Another point is that Final Fantasy and Pokemon are difficult to compare when it comes to music as well. I just can't decide which game series main theme is better.

And which Pokemon game has opera as a background music?

Yes, this is true.

To each his own but I would only call a handful of Pokémon music pieces "high above average". Honestly the two I mentioned earlier are the only ones I think are high above average, lol. The vast majority is just plain average but for a game like Pokémon that's enough really.

I actually mostly liked the Gen II music really. Gen I was good 'cause it was the original but everything from Gen III onward kinda made me wanna puke.

Of course this is before I heard the HG/SS soundtrack, it blew my mind.

But I don't think it will compare to quite a few of the Ragnarok Online tracks I've heard. Like Juno's theme, that theme kicks ass.

OK, to be serious for a moment, most of the newer themes don't mean much to me just because I haven't heard them enough to really judge them fairly. Every old theme sticks with me because I played Yellow, Stadium, and Fire Red so much. Some DPP music is still with me since I still own the games. Ruby I barely remember, and it's been YEARS since Gold and Crystal. I'm sure SoulSilver will be a BLAST of nostalgia, but as of right now, I can't really comment.

The stuff they released from Pikachu's Jukebox and the tracks from the soundtracks aren't too bad, either. There's also the Pokemon Live! stuff they did, (a musical theater production) which was pretty well done.
