It's always fun to hear about what people are listening to right at this moment, but does it really offer much insight into the person? Maybe not... I listen to a lot of songs that I'm only mildly fond of, but there are certain tracks I keep coming back to.

For this reason, I thought I'd see what everyone else has on their top 25 most played playlists. Yeah, I cite 25 because that's what iTunes does. So what. Anyway, share! Discuss! Disgust!

1. Sentimental ~ Kenny G (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw9jXvH1PYs) (I use this tune to ease my shattered nerves. A lot)
2. The Memory of Trees ~ Enya (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIpt_BIrIzM) (I play this song while I'm on the toilet. Best time in the world. Did you need to know this? Probably not.) (peaked at 1)

I had the idea last night for my 21st music playlist to chronologically order the songs from when I first listened to them/I started genuinely enjoying it, so it's like an autobiography, auditory time travel of my past.

I'm way too tired to list my all time greatest songs, but here's some that I have taken to in recent weeks:

Status Quo - Living on an Island
Eric Clapton - Layla
Eric Clapton - Let it Grow
Blur - Tender
Carl Sagan - A Glorious Dawn (ft Stephen Hawking) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSgiXGELjbc) - WATCH THIS SHIT!
Vintersoig - The Enigma Spirit
Mike Oldfield - Five Miles Out
Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow
MGMT - The Youth

Awake and Alive by Skillet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q31lGa7rhjc)
Broken Hearted Soul by Ra (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=RaMusicFan#p/u/21/oyuwjxVteQ8)
Constant Motion by Dream Theater (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3odDbGtx9w)

Any time one of these three songs come up on my playlist they end up on repeat for at least 40 minutes straight (each)

EDIT: Oh you wanted 25...Well I'll try but it's mostly going to consist of Skillet, Ra, 311, and Dream Theater XD

4. The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91ZCPJTfwFU)
5. Never Ending Summer by 311 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vR66fm19yM)
6. Hero by Skillet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O8ot69M4sg&feature=related)
7. What I'm About by Ra (http://www.youtube.com/user/RaMusicFan#p/u/4/2EXDyjGcs_w)
8. Baghdad by Ra (http://www.youtube.com/user/RaMusicFan#p/u/2/3LWgAvKnsSE)
9. Rebirthing by Skillet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6obINPvZtg)
10. It's Alright by 311 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRHZbID5B0A)

Ok so I only got to 10 XD. You guys should have a listen, as most of these bands (besides 311) are not well known and extremely underappreciated for their talent.

This meme is floating around Facebook, only in the form of something like, "25 songs you could never live without" or something or other.

Honestly, I just got my mac and most of my play counts got reset in a file transfer process... but this seems pretty spot on. I'm not going to include duplicate albums since I listen to them straight through a lot.

1. Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer - Argh! I'm a pirate!
2. Army of Freshmen - Wrinkle in Time
3. Silversun Pickups - Kissing Families
4. Motion City Soundtrack - It Had to be You
5. Melee - Rhythm of the Rain
6. Farewell - Hey Heather
7. Weezer - Surf Wax America
8. Allister - Somewhere Down in Fullerton
9. American Taxi - Tanner Boyle vs. the 7th Grade
10. The Format - Tune Out
11. 1997 - Tennessee Song, Part 2 (probably my fav. song ever)
12. Dave Matthews Band - Warehouse (statistically, putting on shuffle seems to yield Warehouse a lot)
13-21. Weezer's blue album. Really. Well, it has the same count as a few of the other songs here listed so it's jumbled up a bit. But it's all there. If I feel like blasting music and taking a shower or cleaning or something, it's perfect.

22. Silversun Pickups - Dream at Tempo 119
23. Bright Eyes - Falling out of love at this volume
24. Army of Freshmen - Shackle the Wind
25. Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year D:

Oh and Bear, Ra puts on an AWESOME live show. At least they did once upon a time five or six years ago when I saw them.

And Dream Theater definitely deserves more recognition for their talent. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is one of my favorite albums, ever, and it's too scratched up and such to import into my itunes. But I keep trying! I might have to buy it again lol

So many closet dream theater fans! I don't own an ipod, and I don't usually listen to i tunes very much... so my top 25 is all from like 2007 when I first got my computer. Most of it is Funeral for a friend, but thrown in are some butterfly effect, some incubus, les claypool (primus) and Dream Theater.

For the record; Awake is my favourite Dream Theater album, followed by Scenes from a Memory. I'm seeing them in less than 2 months as well. MEGA EXCITEMENT. (If anyone from Sydney is seeing Dream Theater let me know :D)

As a fan of metal, more or less, I have listened to minimal Dream Theater. I have some downloaded, but haven't given them the time of day. I haven't gotten into a new metal band for literally months, and metal is becoming more of a nostalgic genre for me, but perhaps I should reignite my passion for metal and check them out if they are that good.

Here's the thing with Dream Theater - They are very very technical. John Petrucci is one of the most amazing and talented guitarists you will ever hear, and he shows it with his complicated solos. Mike Portnoy, the drummer, is also extremely talented as you will hear from the music. Dream Theater's strength is also its weakness - the technicality of it is sometimes too much to take in, and leads to a bit of sensory overload. One of my buddies best described it as "there's too much going on", which is pretty accurate. If you're into fast, complex guitar solos and complicated beats and melodies, Dream Theater is all that and more. If you prefer easier listening music or heavier metal that is less progressive, you might not like DT that much. My suggestion would be to give it a listen. I will list several of my favorite songs and try to spread them around DT's sound spectrum to give you a feel of what they can do. Here they are:

Song Title -- Album
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Home* -- Scenes from a Memory
The Test that Stumped them All* -- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Constant Motion -- Systematic Chaos
I Walk Beside You* -- Octavarium
Shattered Fortress -- Black Clouds and Silver Linings
As I Am* -- Train of Thought
The Mirror -- Awake
The Glass Prison -- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Pull Me Under* -- Images and Words
Panic Attack -- Octavarium
Spirit Carries On* -- Scenes from a Memory
The Count of Tuscany -- Black Clouds and Silver Linings
* - Also appears on "Greatest Hit (and 21 other pretty cool songs)" album
This list should give you a pretty good idea of their faster and slower side, and a general picture of the band's style overall. I suggest you try all of these songs, as each one has a pretty unique sound. I can't promise you'll like all of them, but if you don't happen to like the first couple don't give up. Have at it!
Thanks for that, Bear. I've always been a big fan of progressive metal (and 'progressive rock' is my favourite genre), with progressive metal bands such as Opeth, Scar Symmetry, Vintersorg and Porcupine Tree.
My list is a bit odd... It's quite old, there a load of songs I expected to be on there that aren't. Also, my iPhone completely disagrees with the list that iTunes has (in a very BAD way. In the way that I haven't listened to these songs in ages).
1. Mario Kart Love Song- Sam Hart (Out comes the inner nerd...)
2. Valentine's Day- Linkin Park*
3. Timorous Me- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists*
4. Shiver- Coldplay*
5. The little things give you away- Linkin Park*
6. Violet Hill- Coldplay
7. Photograph- Nickleback*
8. Poison- Groove Coverage (A cover of the Alice Cooper song? If that's even who it's by XD)*
9. Falling out of reach- Guillemots*
10. Viva La Vida- Coldplay
11. Dijurido- Seatbelts (Cowboy Bebop Movie OST)*
12. Lost! (Accoustic version)- Coldplay
13. Cannonball- Damien Rice*
14. As lovers go- Dashboard Confessional*
15. Only in dreams- Weezer (I love the Blue album so much <3)*
16. I miss you- Incubus*
17. Hey there Delilah- Plain White T's*
18. Violins- Yellowcard*
19. Stellar- Incubus*
20. Exitlude- The Killers*
21. Gotta knock a little harder- Mai Yamane (Cowboy Bebop Movie OST)
22. Anywhere- Evanescence (Used to be #1 on my old iTunes library... It moved down a lot O_O)*
23. Little Death- +44
24. Sparks- Coldplay
25. Parachutes- Coldplay
All the ones marked with * are songs on playlists for my RPG characters. It explains a lot, since I listen to their playlists pretty much on repeat as I write for them.
There should probably be more Coldplay after number 25. I like to listen to the Parachutes album in the bath :3
It's a cute song! I will admit though, it is not one to have on repeat... My mum came upstairs when I first got the song and told me to stop playing it cos all she could hear was the crappy guitar bit through my subwoofer XD
I want "Fireflies" by Owl City to appear on this list.
