Which stats proves more significant pertaining to Pokemon endurance? The Hit Points or the coupled physical & special DEF stats?

IE: Lanturn's base HP is high. But its S.Def is below average and its physical Def even worse. Dusclops proves otherwise with an extremely poor HP but tremendous DEF stats. How would you determine their staying power if the difference between stats are so dramatic?

I would try to even it out, giving them whatever they have the least of.

I agree, but I'm partial to High HP. You put Leftovers, Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave on Lanturn, and it can be a problem to opponents.

Hit points are the most important defensive statistic since it accounts for both special and physical attacks. However, this doesn't mean you should concentrate your EVs completely on HP and neglect the other defensive stats, because you will be worse off.

For example, a Milotic with 210 defense and 394 HP will actually take more damage (percentage wise) from physical attacks than a Milotic with 220 defense and 384 HP.

It is best to try and strike a balance between all the defensive stats.
