Okay, this is going to be my first battle here, so I hope I do okay. I'm not expecting to win, but just to figure out how this all goes. So to the ref, and my yet-to-be-named opponent, please bear with me while I (most likely)struggle with this. Thank you ahead of time!

Rules:
3v3 single battle
Any moves, I guess :o
DQ 3 Days
Arena: Plain battlefield. Bare earth on the ground, no cover of any sort, and large walls towering above the 20 meter by 50 battlefield.

I send out Larvitar. Whoever accepts may attack first.

It all looks good, but you need an arena to battle in, if you look around at some of the battles, you can check out a basic description of the arenas others use around here (some have signature arenas), and use something similar.

You also have to choose who sends first. If you send first, the opponent attacks first, and you attack second. Or, if the opponent sends first, you attack first, and they attack second. Either way, in each round, the attacking order reverses, e.g. if you attacked first in Round 1, you'd be attacking second in Round 2, attacking first in Round 3, attacking second in Round 4, and so on.

I'll take you on (just don't send out your Magikarp later that I see you have; best to save up some points to evolve it as soon as you can; they don't need to battle to evolve).

Anyway, being as I have a few Pokemon in need of evolution, I'm going to first send out my Wooper, he's nameless for now, and has Water Absorb if abilities are in use.

Wooper, this is your first battle, so let's make it a good one.

Use Safeguard first, then use a widely aimed Muddy Water. Finish with a Mud Bomb.

If he uses Double Team, wash away the clones with Rain Dance.

Deadwood_Zen

Larvitar! Use Sandstorm, then Payback after he uses Muddy Water, and finish with an ear-shattering Screech.

And no abilities for now, just baby steps for now lol. Maybe next battle :p

===Round 1===

Well now. DL here flying high in the sky over the majestic arena to the lost Souls. Sitting on my flier here, we just soared over the wall, and note that two combatants are in position to utilize this whole battlefield for this needs. A verteran, KOT comes up with a new Pokemon from his travels..and a new trainer...

Deadwood? Yeah Deadwood, that's his name, whips out a Larvitar for use.

The little Larvitar gets off a miniature roar, and stomps around. Wooper shrugs off the tinny sound and takes the time to create a Safeguard around itself. Doesn't stop the sand from slicing..

Lar: -4E ===///=== Woo: -5E SG
Sand: 3 rds

Not bothered with this gritty stuff hitting him, Wooper calls upon ancient water deposit below them both. Larvitar moves across the field quickly, but is not quick enough when a geyser of muddy, mineral rich water slams into him. He's knocked back a few feet, but that doesn't' stop the fire in his eyes.

Getting back on his feet, the little rocky grounder strikes Wooper in the chest horn first. Payback sucks.

Lar: -5E/-25H ===///=== Woo: -7E/-10H

Larvitar grunted from that first hit, and decided to lay into Wooper. Tinny voice, huh, that was a misnomer. He puffed out his chest, and let off a Screech to harm the ears of the deaf! Wooper cringed in pain from that, and wanted it to stop so bad, oh so bad. So he kicked up a bunch of the newly made mud and Bombed it in Larvi's mouth.

Larvi gagged, that was not cool.

If Wooper uses another big move(High Damage), use Payback instead of a second Earthquake.

Yeah, but you'd have to bring back the Pokemon into the battle at some point, though if you do it with Baton Pass, you can pass on certain things (see the move description in the movelist under ASB Towers).

Wooper, those Screeches are going to be a major headache if we don't do something, so use Mud Bomb again, then use Yawn. Finish with a Water Pulse.

OOC: Fair enough. And that's five different moves. Is that allowed in battle?

Yes, move substitutions are certainly allowed in battle, but it's not a good idea to have too many in a single round (3 or more, e.g. Use Swift if Double Team is used, use Protect if Toxic is used, or use Counter if a physical move is used), it can be a problem for the opponent or ref (I find such a situation annoying if I'm the one reffing such a battle).

Deadwood_Zen
11th July 2010, 01:13 PM
Sorry. I meant to 'is that allowed' part for the fact you just did 5 different moves with the Wooper(Safeguard, Muddy Water, Mud Bomb, Yawn, Water Pulse).

Pokemon can use any of the moves they legally learn in the games, except for NYCPC moves, which are illegal here.

DarkestLight
11th July 2010, 04:07 PM
Deadwood, I see you still aren't sure about the move amount being allowed. Please, take a look at any other battle, and note the moves being used are basically unrestricted. There is no picking 4 and sticking with them. The Pokemon here can use any move of any generation at any time as long as you feel the situation calls for it.

The only exclusion ared NYCPC moves and Shadow moves from Pokemon XD.

Wooper walks through the sand, ready to make Larvi's life a living heck. Larvitar notes the incoming axolotol, and resorts to another high pitched Screech. A second Mud Bomb comes flying overhead and slams Larvi into the ground.

Lar: -3E/-14H ===///=== Woo: -5E -2 Def

Wooper really doesn't like the chills that Larvitar gives him. So, to offset this, he yawns audibly, as Larvitar slams its body into the ground. A massive Earthquake tremor shoots through and slaps Wooper off his feet in this barren battlefield.

Wooper flips back up, feeling a bit woozy from that hit. Larvi however, seems good to go...

Lar: -8E Drw===///=== Woo: -3E/-17H

Pained by that strike, Wooper takes a critical moment to reevaluate the strength of his opponent. Larvitar takes that moment to slam its body into the sands once again. Another Earthquake ripples through the area, knocking Wooper off his feet.

The watermon retaliates with a Pulse of Water that smacks Larvitar on its side. Larvitar looks back at the Wooper with large eyes, but then passes out!

===Round 3===

Larvitar rolled around slowly, easing into deeper and deeper sleep. That didn't help any bit since a second dowsing of water came over him. But Larvitar was not without defenses. The little beast conjured up a swath of energy, and let them fly. The orbs collided into Wooper, and knocked him over. Pretty good bright green orbs

Lar: -5E/-25H ===///=== Woo: -7E/-6H

Larvitar rolled around a bit more trying to survive, but Wooper wasn't having it. A Water Pulse was fired, knocking Larvitar down a ways away from Wooper. However Larvitar had another strange dream. Larvi shot out a roar of sorts, one so strong he snapped himself out of sleep! Wooper winced at the power of the roar, and frowned, knowing his adversary was awake.

Lar: -5E/-10H ===///=== Woo: -4E/-6H

Larvitar shook off the inherent grogginess, and immediately went on the defensive. He charged up a massive ball of energy, but watched as Wooper called upon a large wave of water once again. Those things hurt, so Larvitar turned his attention to cutting through the wave. His Hyper Beam blasted forth, splicing the wave as it came to crash on him. The Beam struck Wooper, and blasted him back toward the western wall. But the sides of the Muddy Wave fell back on Larvitar, sweeping him away.

Man, Larvi almost made it through..

With Edo down, Deadwood takes a moment to reconsider his choices. He quickly chooses, revealing his next fighter to be a weaselly feller with some nasty claws. Yaj flexes in front of Wooper, and raises his hands to the sky. He's taking in energy from all living things!!!

Wooper though is rocking back for forth, chanting. The strange incantation rubs off on Yaj, and soon the collection slows to a standstill....

Yaj: *crg-Blanked* ===///=== Woo: -4E

Thinking his opponent to be immobilized, Wooper waddles over and kicks the Zangoose in the shins twice. Yaj hops back, feeling sore in his legs, but then stares at the energy in the sky, just chilling there. He was done charging..and so...he just let it hang up there..

Yag: -12H ===///=== Woo: -5E

Well, shaking off that momentary lapse, Yaj speeds forth and smacks Wooper back. No one makes him bleed his own blood! Wooper takes the light strike badly, and retaliates with a second Double Kick. Yaj rubs his legs again-that went badly.

Wooper, we don't have much left, but if we can get a little more damage in on your current opponent before you fall, it'll make things easier for your successor.

Yaj! Hit him with an Ice Beam, then if it hits, use Focus Punch! If not, then make it two more Close Combats!

Knight of Time
21st July 2010, 07:17 AM
Quiggles, let's make this fast, being as your opponent's been considerably weakened, finish him with a Sucker Punch + Drain Punch + Giga Impact combo, if you can channel the power from the Sucker Punch into this entire combo, we may be able to bring him down before he can do a thing.

Or, if he is unable to get off his Ice Beam, change Sucker Punch to Faint Attack, while keeping the combo still intact.

===Round 8===

Yaj looked at the spinning set of Quiggles, and tried to make heads or tails of it. But it was of no use, he was too dizzy to even attack. Quiggles saw no danger coming his way, and just vanished form view. Yaj sniffed the air, and turned around to see a flurry of red and brown strike from below. A very strong strike. So powerful in fact, that Yaj went flying back in rocket fashion.

Yaj crashed along the ground, creating a deep groove until he reached a stop. Quiggles pulled his arm back and watched to see for movement.

Yaj: -40H ===///=== Qu: -26E/+20H

Naa, no movement.

Uh, just wondering DarkestLight, but does Drain Punch always recover more health for the user if it's used in a combo with at least one other physical damaging move?

I'm just a little intrigued at Quiggles regaining 20 health from this combo, that's all.

DarkestLight
21st July 2010, 06:21 PM
Yeah. It would be weird if you hit someone with a combo move, say like Giga Drain + Tackle, and it hit for ... 16, but you only got 5 health back. Since you caused damage and a part of that was with an attribute to heal, you get more health back.

Its like if you hyped up your attack, your healing properties would rise since you inflicted more damage.

And there's the matter of the defense drops of Yaj as well. Woulda been less :O. Maybe

Deadwood_Zen

Magikarp, I choose you!

First, do nothing with a Splash, then waste another move with Splash! Then realize you've done no damage, and hit him with a [/i]Flail[/i]!

DarkestLight

Errrrr putting breaks on.

You do realize you don't have to use Magikarp in order to evolve it?

Lemme rephrase. There are a select few Pokemon whose movepools are too shallow in order to battle effectively. Here in ASB , we've set up a system in which you can use points to evolve them so that battling with them can be done easier. I believe its all explained in the first page of the Approval Tower.

Knight of Time
22nd July 2010, 09:39 AM
I'll let Deadwood_Zen handle his choice, yeah, buddy, you probably wouldn't want to use a Pokemon with a poor movepool in a battle, that's one of the reasons why they don't need experience to evolve (Magikarp, Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple, Beldum, Burmy, Kricketot, and Combee all fit the list).

Feebas isn't on the list because they can use TMs, unlike Magikarp (I know this because I used a Feebas in one of my early battles here, who is now a Milotic).

Deadwood_Zen
22nd July 2010, 09:12 PM
I know. I just went a little... over the top yesterday. I was dealing with a lot of shit, and just vented out on here(and a few other sites)nso I'm sorry about that.

I knew that, and Kot, you told me I didn't have to in one of the first posts, but I made that decision, and now we just have to live with it. Resume play.

Quiggles did it again! Karp did it again!

Deadwood, you can't swap Magikarp out. That was your last Pokemon as per the restrictions on the match (3 on 3) S'why I asked you if you wanted to switch before. 'Fraid yer gonna have to put him back in and give Magikarp attacks.

Karp, still flopping round, watched as a new competitor came to the field. Out came a Spinarak, whom seemed none too interested in this battle. Karp would show him! He flopped around a bit...and that's really all he did.

Spinarak fired off a webbing, holding Magikarp in place.

Mag: -2E ===///=== Spin: -3E

Karp did it again! Spinarak then linked minds with the flappy fish, and drained a sickening amount of health away,

Mag: -2E/-16H ===///=== Spin: -8E

Spin kept the drain going, leaving Karp pretty tuckered out. But that's when the Flail hit, knocking Spinarak back a bit. That actually hurt!

Hopefully this will be the only time I (or anyone else, for that matter) face a Magikarp in battle...

On the other hand, if I was using a Magikarp in battle, I'd be using a certain damaging move more often than Tackle or Flail...hopefully it's legal here since my Spinarak is weak against it.

Deadwood_Zen
26th July 2010, 05:58 PM

Spinarak, keep yourself in this with another trio of Giga Drains.

Its legal, its part of the HG/SS lineup. Deadwood , lol use a Pokedex website like Serebii or Psypokes to check what moves your Pokemon can use. Since its inclusive of every generation, you may find some hidden gems along the way.
