View Full Version : No third version?

Yesterday, an interview with Mana Ibe, who worked on Black and White was posted by the Spanish website Meristation. One of the questions asked was will there be a third version for the 3DS, and the response was: "No to everything. We have finished this installment with the Black and White versions."

So what do you guys make of this? Do you think there will be a third version and Ibe was just mistaken (or lying?), or will Black and White be the only main series games this generation, paving the way for a generation full of spinoffs?

Edit: Here's the article (in Spanish): http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_noticia.php?id=cw4d5593fec848e&pic=GEN

WHAT?

This really screws me up.

Well, I can understand them saying no right now, there would be a lot of things to do to create a compiled third version. Off the top, I'd point out Black City and White Forest, as that's quite a bit to try and squeeze together logically in a third version.

Once the quirks are worked out from these two, I'm sure they'll introduce a new version to aid with battling premises as they did with Emerald and Platinum. 'Specially with all this triple ridiculous battles.

There'll be a third version. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

There's going to be a third version, but not anytime soon.

I don't see why there won't be a 3rd..but I doubt it'll be out for 3DS regardless of its release.
Now I can see them re-releasing something else on 3DS or a completely new one, but I doubt anytime soon.

Maybe the first 3DS Pokemon game will be a remake of Yellow. We never got a new one to accompany FR/LG, and I miss Yellow so much... It was my first Pokemon game. :( Please let me have it back, Nintendo. Just one more time.

Well, Black City / White Forest is kind of hard to reconcile. They might be able to find a way to put both in, but that could screw up the data used for them. They could replace them both with Grey Cave, but that would lose sight of the traditional/modern dichotomy they have going with most of the geographic version differences.

Then, too, there's the plot of the games, with Zekrom and Reshiram. Sure, there's a third dragon to use, but how do you put a third perspective on the battle between Reshiram and Zekrom in N's Castle? Neither Emerald's take on Groudon/Kyogre nor Platinum's take on Dialga and Palkia would be satisfying here.

DarkestLight

Grey Town-kinda like Solaceon, it could be a small town still in the midst of nature.

As for the plot, yeah I need to actually play to understand the plot before I can see how to insert a third dragon. Might just hafta be an extraneous third part after you deal with both main dragons.

The fact that the third Dragon is itself grey in color seems rather suspect to me...

The only way they could perhaps fit in the storyline is by giving N zekrom, the playable character of the opposite gender Reshiram, and the main character Kyurem. I suppose it would be really interesting to see how it would pan out though.

They might take it down a completely different road though, by completely remaking the entire storyline and involving Genesect, most probably taking place after the storyline of Black and White. I'm sure I remember hearing that its' event isn't programmed into the game, plus there isn't any official sugimori art for it yet, so I think that its' going to have slightly more signifigance than it is suggested. But that's just a guess really, so who knows?

Blademaster

That WOULD be pretty cool, though.

If nothing else, it couldn't be worse than Platinum's introduction to the cool and creepy Charon who DOESNOTHINGLOLGAEMFREKTROLU.

Yeah, it would be nice if gamefreak decided to give people with the first 2 versions an added incentive to buy the 3rd. I just downloaded the ROM for Platimun since it was so similar to diamond and pearl, plus I don't really like that generation.

Yes, Charon is stupid. He almost has a girl's name for god sake! xD

I must disagree, the name Charon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charon_%28mythology%29) is littered with creepy badassery.

If there is a third version, and there most certainly will be given enough time, they'll do the same thing for Kyurem as they did for Giratina most likely: level it down considerably, give it an alternate form, and adjust the plot accordingly towards these adjustments. Don't know how exactly they'll adjust the plot. Maybe a 6 vs. 6 double battle with N and Ghetsis with both of them using Reshiram and Zekrom against you and one of your Rivals, most likely Cheren, battling alongside you. Who knows?

Didn't think of that, but still 'Charon' is hardly a name that when someone hears it would make them quake in their boots. xD

I don't think that they will go down the same road as platinum 'cos if Ghetsis and N double battles you then it would be outmatched because the opponents would have 2 legendary pokemon to defeat that are both stronger stats wise than Kyurem, plus of the whole N and Ghetsis' disagreement at the end and all that would complicate things... If it is a double battle it will probably be the player and N vs. Ghetsis and a new character becuase N wants to stop ghetsis at the end of the game.. It would be fun to battle with N rather than against him since he is actually a good guy in the end.

Uhh Cynder, I'd spoiler tag that bit about the end of the game, especially after Blade just said he didn't want spoilers. (Just a fair warning :P)

Well I'd say there probably will be a third version (if not, there's a big event coming sooner or later). There's a huge giveaway in the game data: there are two very powerful Ice-Type attacks with burn and paralysis properties, presumably for Kyurem. However as far as anyone knows, there ain't any way to get them (at least legally), so either these will be available in a third version or an event.

If there is one or not, though, I hope it's a while off. I'm really far behind right now (I haven't even started HG/SS yet...), and I've got a lot on my gaming plate besides that right now...

There will almost certainly be a third version. Ibe is obviously fibbing to get the masses all riled up and keep us guessing. They've laid too much plot and open-endedness for there not to be a third version.

If they make one, it better have me in it! Black and White even have my champion theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-B2cnSqPy8), but the programmers never put me in. What a bunch of losers.

Can they make friggin Ruby and Saphire redo's already?! im itching for them

Poryhedron
5th May 2011, 10:53 PM
I'd be a bit surprised if they did Ruby and Sapphire redos. Fire Red and Leaf Green were obviously called for because Red and Blue were the roots of the series and they deserved to get the graphics and engine update. Gold and Silver deserved the update because a very large portion of the fandom considers them the best generation. Ruby and Sapphire, though, already have a lot of the elements that RBYGSC were missing: Special Abilities, the Effort Value system, full-color graphics, the ability to send a pokémon through to the current-gen games...and Ruby and Sapphire don't have as much fan backing as Gold and Silver did. Plus, what would they name the remakes? Seriously, any clue at all?

Darth CookieMonster
6th May 2011, 05:49 AM
Yeah no idea, but they would come up with something. All i know is that Saphire was my first pokemon game and they better make a goddamn remake

Drago
6th May 2011, 06:48 AM
Retroactively I feel as though Ruby and Sapphire may have actually been one of the strongest generations, but there's no need for a remake. Not at this point.

Only way we see a remake is if it's on 3DS with specific new elements that cater to the system, or some other handheld down the line.

I mentioned my thoughts on it in this article I wrote for Legenday Pokemon almost a year ago (http://www.legendarypokemon.net/2010/07/15/Webmasters/in-anticipation-of-pokemon-black-and-white-by-pokemaster-jeff).

Now this has been a pretty controversial piece of speculation, and for a good reason: Many fans are expecting to return to Hoenn, not in Black and White, but in remakes of Ruby and Sapphire. But let’s stop and think about this. There were two big reasons for remaking Red and Blue, and Gold and Silver. First, Pokémon found in those games were difficult or impossible to obtain in the current games, and second, the originals could no longer hold a save, so fans who were nostalgic about the old games wanted to see them remade so they can play them again. This was particularly true for HeartGold and SoulSilver. In fact, the creators even mentioned fan speculation about possible remakes of Gold and Silver when HG/SS was announced, so it’s not that much of a stretch to think that the fans influenced the decision to remake Gold and Silver. So are those reasons there for creating remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, or “RSEmakes” as I’ve dubbed them? I believe the answer is no. Ruby and Sapphire use flash memory, allowing the games to hold saves indefinitely, so any fan who is feeling nostalgic about these old games must have played one of them before and therefore probably has a copy lying around, so they’ll be able to play it again without any problems. Gamefreak probably realized this, and therefore decided that they won’t spend the development time on remaking Ruby and Sapphire. The inclusion of Hoenn legendaries in HG/SS further solidifies this. After all, why would they include them in HG/SS if they’re just going to be available in RSEmakes anyway?

Another thought is that now that we know the 3DS will have a Virtual Console (which is coming out this month), it's more likely that we'll be getting the original Ruby and Sapphire on that rather than remakes.

if they remade any version for the Nintendo 3ds, id be willing to bet R/S/E. they remade ever generation exempt them.

might call them sky emerald, ocean sapphire, and molten Ruby.

The Spanish grammar of that article hurts. Who wrote that? A monkey with an online translator?

I'd never heard of that site before, so I don't know how reliable it is. I guess only time will tell.
