Ok Darth, I challenge you to... a PIE THROWING contest!

That's right! PIE throwing!

Arena - A circus tent

Pokemon - 10 v 10, one at a time

Damage cap - NONE

Banned moves - Rest, pain split, Curse (Ghosts only), Perish song.

Special rules - Pokemon may only switch out using moves such as Batton pass, Volt switch, U-turn, ect. The audience (Yes, we are going to need audience participation) are equiped with the pies (Custard, Cream, Blueberry, Apple and Pumpkin) may heckle and throw pies at the pokemon in play. Each pie does a different effect, as listed below!

Pies:

Apple - Apple pies are not cooked properly. They will cause damage, and may cause POISON status (Poison tail level damage)
Blueberry - Blueberry pies are packed filled with berry goodness. They will cause damage and may inflict the PARALYZED status (Thunder bolt level damage)
Cream - Cream pies are COLD. They will cause damage and MAY inflict the FROZEN status (Icy wind level damage)
Custard - Custard tarts are soft and squish. They will cause damage and may cause SLEEP status (Secret power level damage)
Pumpkin - Pumpkin pies are HOT. They will cause damage and may cause BURN effect (Scald level damage)

Furthermore, Each heckler may only throw ONE pie, PER round, PER comment they make against one of the competitors. The REF may NOT throw any pies, and nor may the competitors.

Oslo - Yes, hecklers have to pick a target, and No, they do not have types (I just listed moves for damage equivalents). Also, abilities should be listed as ON. It should also be noted, you don't have to wait for heckling. Between your post and the next post you do is all the time the hecklers have to throw their pies (And make their comments). Also, no comment, no pie.

Ahh, I positively adore circuses! They really are such a chipper place with children, popcorn, animals and creepy carnie folk with vaguely pedophilic grins. Such magic and merriment all around! Today, two steely trainers will go head to head here under the big top. Ayeun and her devious Duskull will face off against DCM and his spooky Spiritomb in a 10 on 10 battle extravaganza! Meanwhile, an assortment of hecklers stand behind a table loaded with pie. Hrm, what could that be about? Well, whatever! Let’s do this!

As the two Ghost-type Pogeys begin sizing one another up, two of our lovely hecklers leap upon their chairs and begin catcalling the battlers. Duskull and Shade exchange bewildered looks. Um, wtf? Suddenly, Darkly begins shouting something about lava lamps while Cynder makes a bold assertion about the proper colour of Duskulls. The two hecklers lob their pies, causing Shade to take a pumpkin pie to the kisser while Duskull succumbs to a pie plate full of custard. Yuck! The spooks mutter as they wipe pie off their faces, but hey, at least you guys didn’t receive a status!

Shade: <-8 HP>

Okay, well, that was demeaning! Shade, the speedier of the two, closes his eyes and begins calming his mind. In retaliation, Duskull lets loose with a blinding flash of light that drifts toward Shade. Shade opens his eyes wide, trying desperately to revert to his alternate commands and erect a Safeguard, but it’s too late: the Confuse Ray strikes, causing his thoughts to scramble. Tough luck, my friend.

As birds circle his head, Shade does his best to pull it together as he cuts loose with his next attack. And he succeeds! A powerful burst of Dark-type energy collides with Duskull, knocking the wind (do ghosts even have… wind?) right out of our little spirit friend. In retaliation, Duskull hurls a swirling ball of darkness and shadows at his foe, which collides to reasonable effect.

Shade grins devilishly, prepared to induce a little Confusion of his own! However, his plan becomes momentarily derailed when he suddenly starts banging his head against his keystone. Uh… well, good luck with that, buddy! Duskull cackles at his opponent’s Confusion. He does a spin, whipping up a freezing cold Blizzard that wafts into the tent and berates Shade with flecks of snow and ice.

Did somebody say… pie? All of a sudden, DF, RL, RL and Chaos (which is these things is not like the other?) leap upon their seats and hurl pies of various sorts all at Duskull. Ahh! The humanity! Duskull is pinned to the ground under crumbled chunks of pie and tin plates. Shade approaches cautiously, curious about the fate of his foe. He clears the detritus so Duskull is visible. It becomes immediately clear that Duskull is frozen within an icy tomb; moreover, beneath the ice, its cheeks are tinged with purple.

Shade cackles. That certainly went well!

Duskull: <-26 HP; Psn; Frz>
Shade: <…>

With Duskull incapacitated for the time being, all eyes are on Shade who’s free to run rampant. Shade starts by giving his head a shake, ridding that pesky Confusion once and for all. He then Taunts Duskull (and has to speak up while doing so, of course, what with all that ice) and tells him that his battle prowess is worse than a Shuppet’s. Woah, man. That was ruthless.

Duskull: <Can’t move!; Tnt>
Shade: <-4 EP>

Imprison whosit? Upon hearing this command, Shade peers from his trainer to the Duskullcicle (that… doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue) he’s supposed to be fighting. Er… so how exactly is that supposed to work? Without any clear objective, Shade busies himself by eating some pie filling off the ground. Mmm… tasty!

Duskull: <Can’t move!>
Shade: <…>

As Duskull continues lying there like a useless lump, Shade decides to add insult to injury by blasting his foe with a blinding Confuse Ray. Because, you know, I’m sure that’s exactly what Duskull wants at the moment. Another status.

Pie time! Chaos, Cynder and DF each hurl a yummy dessert at our battlers. One of them hits Duskull while two collide with poor Shade. Fortunately for Duskull, the steaming-hot pumpkin pie thrown by Chaos successfully melts all of the ice covering our little spook. Yay, he’s as good as freed! Unfortunately for Shade, the other pumpkin pie thrown by Cynder is equally hot and ends up inflicting a nasty Burn. Oh no!

Okay, time to tango! Duskull manages to get the upper hand in terms of speed this time around, drifting close enough for a wicked-fast punch. In retaliation, Shade unleashes a concentrated blast of Dark-type energy which Duskull doesn’t seem to enjoy too much. Can you blame him?

Once again, Duskull, the speedy little imp, rockets forth for another Sucker Punch... but stops. Instead, he tries chewing his arm instead. Um. 'Kay. Meanwhile, Shade summons a creepy-ass gust of wind which whips the flaps of the circus tent about. What with type effectiveness, STAB and Shade’s bolstered Special prowess, the move blows Duskull right into one of the tent poles with tremendous force. Ouchies!

Duskull clears his head of Confusion. Time for Sucker Punch numero trois! Right on target, Duskull strikes with another Dark-type punch. Does his fist ever wear out or what? Shade growls and fights back with another swirling ball of shadows, this one sending Duskull all the way to kingdom come. Better luck next time, pal.

Ayeun calmly recalls her fallen Duskull and replaces the crimson spook with a chipper white sea lion. Aww, can you say adorable? Our hecklers, Chaos and DL, seem so taken by this little Seel that they decide to punish Shade with two tasty-looking pies! The baked goods smack the Spiritomb right in the face, dealing damage but leaving the spook unscathed in terms of statuses.

Shade: <-15 HP; Brn>

Clapper kicks things off by creating a sparkling ring of water that hovers magically over the battle. Ooh. Purdy. Shade, however, doesn’t much care for this little bit of hocus pocus and demonstrates the kind of cool feats he’s capable of. Like, um, Taunting, of course! He growls a bit and starts ranting on and on about the hilarity of seal-clubbing. (“You just bonk their stupid little heads with a club; its awesome!”) This bit of cruelty expectedly throws Clapper into a rage.

Shade: <-4 EP>

Shooting Shade a dirty look, Clapper claps those ungainly flippers of his. Suddenly, a cascade of salty water bursts into the tent, drenching not only our lovely audience but also Shade. The move strikes with such ferocity, in fact, that it brings Shade within an inch of his life. Suddenly, the malevolent spirit begins cackling madly. He has a plan! A shadowy form slips out of Shade’s mouth and darts across the field, wrapping itself around Clapper. The Seel blinks, oblivious to what will inevitably go down.

Clapper simply does not get why Shade is cackling like an absolute lunatic right now. Even as a second foamy deluge surges into the circus tent, Clapper can’t understand why the Spiritomb is laughing his ass off while his health is ripped away by the Brine. As Shade shrinks away into his keystone, defeated, Clapper’s eyes suddenly go wide. The Aqua Ring fades. He falls.

Now he gets the joke.

After that fustercluck of a round, both trainers recall their Pogeys from the soggy battlefield before making new selections. DCM releases a plant-covered lizard creature while Ayeun, on the other hand, goes for a yellow salamander with a fiery tail. Neat-o! Suddenly, two pies come whizzing our way care of DF and Darkly. Cynder also jumps up and heckles but opts not to throw a pie. The desserts strike Amazon, burying her under blueberry and pumpkin goo. When she gets up and wipes the sugary crap off her face, her muscles feel a little stuff. Uh-oh. I think we all know what that means.

Amazon: <-18 HP; Par>

Delighted by her opponent’s pie-related misfortune, Burn ambles forward and roasts the Grovyle alive with a chipper Flamethrower. Amazon wails as the fire scorches her mercilessly and eventually manages to bring the assault to an end by generating a series of rocks which come slamming down upon Burn, trapping her beneath their weight.

Dazed, Burn begins to squirm her way out of the rocks. Once she’s free, she looks up just in time to see—or, rather, hear—Amazon hacking up some Toxic goo from her belly. Not so fast! Burn throws up an orange barrier that shields her entirely. Hah! Seeing this, Amazon decides to change her course of action by flinging mud at the Charmander. The gunk strikes the Protective barrier uselessly.

Eat flames! Burn ruthlessly subjects Amazon to a second snaking trail of flames. This time, however, the Wood Gecko Pokemon can’t stop her with more rocks. Her muscles seize up, rendering her immobile.

Pies away! DL and Chaos make some nasty remarks as they hurl pies at both Burn and Amazon. The former takes a cream pie to the face while the latter must deal with a big ol’ pumpkin pie. Mmm. Painfully delicious.

Knowing that she’ll have to do something tricky if she wants to inflict her foe with a status, Amazon comes up with the cunning scheme to spit a wad of Toxic go while making ramming motions with her arms so as to destroy any Protective barriers erected by her foe. However, her plan doesn’t go quite as desired: Burn throws up a second orange shield which succeeds in warding off not only the Toxic goo but also Amazon’s physical thrusts. The Grovyle stomps the ground forcefully and does a little heckling of her own. Looks like somebody needs a smoke.

Amazon: <-11 EP>

Burn opens wide and delightedly roasts Amazon alive with a wicked Fire Blast. Oh my! As the flames lick away at the Grovyle's grassy frame, they begin to inflict a nasty Burn. Then, without warning, Amazon's body suddenly begins to glow green. Ooh, looks like somebody’s Overgrow is kicking in! Ready to kick some Charmander booty, Amazon takes a step forward to halt her opponent’s assault—but stops immediately. Frig. Paralysis is a real bitch, ain’t it?

Having expended all her actions for the time being, Amazon has no choice but to look on as Burn continues her fiery assault. The heat brings Amazon to the brink of death, but she manages to just barely survive! Woohoo! Celebration time!

DCM recalls his quick-to-fall Grovyle and summons a new Pokemon with a flash of crimson light. A tiny turtle takes to the field, beating his tail against the ground energetically. As our hecklers leap upon their seats to throw pies, Burn and Franklin brace themselves. DL’s pie comes whizzing toward Franklin, coating the wee Squirtle with apple goo. Chaos’s pie, on the other hand, comes whizzing toward… DL? Suddenly, DL’s UltraMod ability activate and the pie stops short in the air. Without warning, it spins around on a dime and goes splat right in Chaos’s face. Somebody get the man a napkin?

Franklin: <-5 HP>

Despite her crippled Speed stat, Burn still manages to get things off to a speedy start. Without warning, ripples of electric current surge around Burn’s right hand. Really? ThunderPunch on a Charmander? Who knew! Skipping forth, Burn slams her fist into Franklin’s shoulder, sending umpteen volts of electricity through the Squirtle. Just when you’d think this would invigorate Franklin into action, he uses this opportunity to… Yawn? Buh? A tiny cloud wafts toward Burn where it bursts upon impact. This bizarre tactic seems to have some effect: Burn’s eyelids slowly begin to grow heavy.

Burn: <-6 EP>
Franklin: <-12 HP; -4 EP>

Fighting off sleep, Burn grabs Franklin by the arms and hoists him up over her head. Woah, look at the guns on that chick! She showboats for the crowd by giving Franklin a needless spin before tossing him into a tentpole. Franklin scrambles to his feet and sprays a steady stream of water into the air. The water bends and arcs into a perfect loop which hangs suspended above the fray. Pretty!

Suddenly, exhaustion sets in and Burn is out like a light, curled up on the ground.

Burn: <-7 EP; Slp>
Franklin: <-9 HP; -4 EP; Aqua Ring>

While Burn sleeps, Franklin chuckles. Oh, it’s on! The Squirtle recedes into his shell before swiftly rotating, unleashing a deluge from the six openings. These aquatic pressure waves wallop Burn with great strength, sending the slumbering Lizard Pokemon skidding toward the open tent flap. She rolls over, still somehow asleep.

Franklin: <-10 EP>

The Aqua Ring releases sparkling waves which coil around Franklin, imbuing him with new vitality <+3 HP>.

Still asleep, Burn leaps to her feet like some kind of charmed puppet. She lumbers toward Franklin, body ablaze with massive flames, before tackling the Squirtle. The attack’s bite is lessened thanks to the typing, but Squirtle still seems a little dazed from that heavy blow. Growling, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon recedes into his shell and fires off a second massive Hydro Pump! The inside of our circus tent is soaked as Blaze tumbles backward from that heavy blow.

Burn: <-20 HP; -12 EP; -2 SpA>
Franklin: <-7 HP; -10 EP>

Once again, Burn hops to her feet. Ooh, what movie will Sleep Talk call this time? I’m simply beside myself in anticipation! Suddenly, the Charmander begins pirouetting bizarrely. However, the move seems to have some benefit as the fiery fighter’s physical might begins to ramp up. Awesome! Once again, Franklin goes for a Hydro Pump; however, the attack is difficult to control and Burn doesn’t manage to soak his foe quite as thoroughly as he would have liked.

Suddenly, the Charmander begins to glow brilliantly. Ooh. Ahh. Purdy.

Burn: <-14 HP; -4 EP; +2 Att; Blaze>
Franklin: <-10 EP>

Suddenly, Burn gives a start and awakens on the spot. Though she’s suffering some mega bedsores thanks to all those Hydro Pumps, she nonetheless barrels forth to deliver an electrifying ThunderPunch. Franklin does a spin on the spot to bring some clones into existence, but the ThunderPunch strikes before he has an opportunity. The ripples of electricity burgeon around Franklin’s body. Our three most prolific hecklers leap upon their seats and begin barraging the two Kanto starters with some rather nasty remarks. Cynder, DL and Chaos each hurl a pie into the fray. Burn unfortunately takes a cream pie while Franklin, on the other hand, loses not one but two of his dear clones to the baked goods. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

As the round officially gets underway, Burn preempts any kind of offensive tactic on her opponent’s part by erecting a glistening orange barrier. Franklin, however, decides to try his luck at overcoming such a shield by putting everything he has into another Hydro Pump. As one might expect, the water runs off the shield harmlessly.

Burn: <-8 EP>
Franklin: <-10 EP; 1 clone>

Burn’s fist is alive with electric current as she stalks toward Franklin and the remaining Squirtle clone. Rather than flipping a coin, Burn simply goes for it and picks one of the two turtles at random. Fortunately for Burn, she chooses correctly! Her fist strikes the real Franklin in the jaw and, with that, the clone pops out of existence. Furious, Franklin douses his foe with a heavy deluge of water. Eat it, salamander freak!

Burn: <-11 HP; -6 EP>
Franklin: <-16 HP; -4 EP; 0 clones>

Once again, Burn throws up a Protect to ward off any oncoming attack. However, Burn winces this time around as the strength required to maintain such a ploy eats into her health. The effect is nonetheless the same: Franklin’s Hydro Pump pummels the barrier mercilessly, but the shield refuses to buckle. Franklin lets out some choice swear words.

Chaos, DL and DF look upon our two battlers with devious grins. All of a sudden, they lob their pies at the battlers. Burn is brought to the brink of defeat thanks to a measly blueberry pie while Franklin, on the other hand, takes pies of both the cream and blueberry variety to the face. Suddenly, ice crystals materialize around poor Franklin until the Squirtle is frozen solid.

Suddenly, from beneath his icy tomb, Franklin begins to glow blue. The play of the light on the ice is downright purdy.

Having been put through the ringer, Burn is understandably exhausted at this point but still lumbers forth for one last strike. Electricity crackles around the Charmander’s hand, but it starts sparking and fizzling erratically. He brings the ThunderPunch slamming against Franklin’s icy tomb, but its capacity is diminished slightly. Suddenly, as the electric current begins thaw the head of our trapped Squirtle friend a tad, Burn can’t go on: he succumbs to exhaustion and slumps over.

Death by pies is truly a tragic thing and DCM has no choice but to recall his pie-covered Squirtle to its Pokeball. His next selection takes to the field with a burst of crimson light. A frightening purple ghost does an airborne lap around the tent to showboat and cackles maniacally. (I would just like to point out that when I originally typed this, I used to the word “frightenous” to describe Gengar, which is not a word at all. Good work, Oslo.) Suddenly, DL throws a pumpkin pie at Loudred, further widening the health disparity between these two fighters. Whatevs! Let’s just get this underway!

As the next round officially begins, Orpheus starts by spouting some rather rude insults. The Gengar cruelly informs Loudred that she’s no sound system at all; in fact, she’s as quiet as a mouse with laryngitis wearing soft-soled shoes! Woah, buddy. I’m sure that crossed some line in Loudred world. Loudred is infuriated to the point of reckless attack, abandoning whatever strategy he had in mind to instead swipe at Orpheus in rage. Of course, since he’s, y’know, a Ghost and everything, this rage-fuelled attempt at violence fails.

As Loudred stands there and fumes, Orpheus makes eye contact with the big lout and, through mysterious Hypnotic powers, begins to lull his foe into a deep sleep. Suddenly, it’s too much for Loudred: the Big Voice Pokemon buckles and falls, out like a light.

Orpheus: <-4 EP>

Having successfully incapacitated his foe, Orpheus is free to run amok. Taking a DBZ-esque stance, he unleashes a concentrated blast of pure energy at Loudred. The attack’s effects are devastating, throwing Loudred way up to the top of the tent before he lands with a thud on the ground. Ouchies. Ridiculously, through all that, Loudred continues to sleep.

Orpheus closes his eyes and begins honing his focus. Suddenly, Loudred leaps to her feet as though he were a charmed puppet. Without warning, she picks up a stray rock off the ground and lobs it at the Gengar. Having been Smacked Down out of the air, Orpheus tumbles down to the ground. He tries to do a little hop to get airborne once again but he just can’t seem to manage to Levitate. He lets out a curse. Yeah, needless to say… his focus has been broken.

Orpheus: <-5 HP; Levitate negated>

Once again, Orpheus begins honing his focus. However, it doesn’t work out so well as Loudred, still asleep, manages to rattle off another attack. She lets out a chilling pulse of water at Gengar, who is not especially damaged but perhaps more irritated by this silly strike. Once again, say bye-bye to your focus.

All of a sudden, Loudred hops to her feet, blissfully awake once more. Awesome! Less awesome, of course, is the sudden forearm thrust Orpheus performs as he knocks the megaton sound system onto her butt. Rude! Loudred hops to her feet and tries to retaliate, but he muscles lock up and she’s rendered immobile. Vengeance delayed.

Time for dessert! DL, the sole heckler this round, lobs a yummy cream pie at Loudred. Fortunately for the big lug, it doesn’t manage to freeze her. Phew!

Beep beep! Roaring like a crazy person, Loudred slams her big foot on the ground and elicits a series of tremors. In a bid to evade the move, Orpheus waits for the tremors to approach… and jumps! Except he’s not used to his legs so he actually just topples over and falls flat on his face, leaving himself vulnerable to the shock waves that knock him around a good deal. Pulling himself up, the Gengar glowers and locks eyes with his foe. He Hypnotizes Loudred into another deep sleep.

While Loudred sleeps, Orpheus traipses over toward Loudred. He clobbers the sleeping lout with a strength-sucking punch that rewarded the wily Ghost with some nummy health. Loudred suddenly hops to her feet and, still asleep, retaliates by screaming at the top of her lungs. No matter how unpleasantly loud the Hyper Voice is, Orpheus doesn’t seem particularly bothered.

For the second time this battle, Orpheus does another DBZ-style pose and shoots off another brilliant beam of intense mental acuity. Yup, Paralysis will do that to you.

Taking aim, DL says some rather hurtful things about postmortem obesity (a leading cause of pulmonary hypertension among the undead) before lobbing a delicious apple pie at Orpheus. Fortunately, the Gengar’s typing protects him from any potentially poison after-effects, but the dessert still bears a little sting nonetheless.

Drain Punch time! Once again, Orpheus decimates his slumbering foe with a quick and painful punch that results in a happy boost of health for our little Gengar friend. Still asleep, Loudred bounces up and releases dual blasts of pink energy from her antennae. The Extrasensory assault rocks our specter friend as the same typing that protected him from becoming Poisoned results in him being blown across the tent and through the tent flap. And Loudred continues to sleep.

All of a sudden, Loudred stirs awake and climbs to her feet. Though she’s significantly more injured than she was upon nodding off, she’s nonetheless ready to give it her all and bring this phantom down for good.

...and then Orpheus comes sprinting back into the tent and delivers the Brick Break that brings her down at last. So much for an epic comeback.

Ayeun recalls her defeated Loudred for a good rest. At this point, as she prepares to make her fifth selection, she knows she’s nearing the battle’s halfway point and will have to step things up in order to narrow the disparity between her and her opponent. With a toss, she summons a gigantic steel-covered serpent who fills the tent. Suddenly, Chaos shouts something about how it can’t taste apples before lobbing an apple pie at its eye. Though Rage’s Steel typing protects it from being poisoned, it still blinks in pie-induced fury.

Rage lets out a terrific roar before beckoning a whirling Sandstorm into the tent. The audience pulls their collars up over their faces and Charles throws a screaming fit because now there’s sand in all his beautiful pies. However, Orpheus combats this by clapping his hands together and summoning… the sun? Because, you know, of ghosts and their famous love for daylight. Rage growls as his weather effect is overridden.

Giggling, Orpheus flounces over to the base of our massive snaky friend and clobbers him with a blistering Fire Punch. Ouch! The weather-boosted heat from the flames gives Rage cause to roar like a maniac and retaliate by breathing out a beam of brown energy. Just as the sunlight boosted Orpheus’s attack, Rage’s Sheer Force delivers some extra kick. Alas, poor Gengar simply isn’t used to taking damage from all these Ground moves. Where’s Levitate when you need it?

DL springs into action, whipping a cream pie at Rage. Orpheus snickers as ice crystals begin to form around the Steelix; however, the bright sunlight eradicates the ice as it materializes, leaving Rage entirely mobile. Orpheus crosses his arms in a huff. It’s just not fair!

Putting that fiery fist of his to good use once again, Orpheus attacks his foe in the tail with one spicy Fire Punch. Rage wails, thrashing uncontrollably which gives the audience members, hecklers and this referee a little cause to panic. However, rather than crushing the lot of us into minestrone soup, Rage directs his anger toward Orpheus and brings his jaw slamming down upon the Gengar. When Rage rises, Orpheus is flattened like a pancake.

Rage: <-16 HP; -6 EP>
Orpheus: <-14 HP; -6 EP>

Orpheus pops backs up and marches toward that Steelix with hopes of exacting a little vengeance. He clobbers Rage with an Ice Punch. This time around, Rage opts not to attack his foe and instead sprays several pointed rocks in key places around the field. Those babies look painful.

Rage: <-8 HP; -4 EP>
Orpheus: <-6 EP>

Time for another Fire Punch! Once again, Orpheus attacks the big ol’ snake with a fiery punch to the tail. This time around, it leaves a rather painful welt. Rage growls. Uh-oh, someone’s not too keen on Burns. Ready to knock Orpheus out of the match, he slams his jaw upon the Gengar once again before laughing victoriously.

However, when he straights, Rage peers down and realizes Orpheus is still truckin’. The Gengar straightens and blows Rage a raspberry. The Steelix’s eyes widen. How the hell is the bugger not dead?

Once again, our two battlers are forced to return their fallen Pokemon in unison and make new selections. DCM goes with a borked-out digital duckie who is released upon a bed of jagged rocks while Ayeun counters with a flame-tailed orangutan. Good luck to you both!

Before the challengers can issue their moves, DL hurls a nice blueberry pie at Monferno, who fortunately does not succumb to Paralysis. The monkey breathes a sigh of relief.

Monferno: <-10 HP>
ROM: <-5 HP from SR>

Wiping blue gunk out of his fur, Monferno shrieks and begins stamping on the ground in annoyance. Quick as can be, the monkey bounces over to ROM and whips his tail in the Porygon-Z’s face. ROM stumbles back in blinks, its circuits temporarily shot.

ROM: <-4 HP; Fln>

Once ROM is back online, it activates “C: \My Documents\Attacks\Gen_V\TMHM\Aerial_Ace” and executes. It bounds into the air and performs a wicked flip before landing behind Monferno. With a rapid spin, it slams one of its tapered blue arms into the Pokemonkey. Monferno growls and issues a super-hot Flamethrower in response. ROM lets out a familiar series of chirps (http://www.aporcupine.com/dialup.swf) and does its very best to up its fan speed, pronto.

ROM: <-12 HP; -4 EP>

This time around, ROM calls up “C: \My Documents\Attacks\Gen_IV\Tutor\Zen_Headbutt” which causes its head to glow pink. It rockets its whole body toward Monferno, who takes the hit in the gut and falls on his bottom. Rubbing his belly, Monferno pulls himself up as his eyes glow a brilliant yellow. Uh-oh. Suddenly, the Playful Pokemon unleashes a pulsating blast of light. The attack is excruciating for poor ROM who is launched into the audience. Some random person catches him and then his head starts rotating at top speed. Yeah, he’s fried.

This time around, pies aplenty fill the air as five hecklers unleash sugary death upon our two battlers. As the pies pile atop our foes, poor ROM finds himself on the receiving end of a nasty bout of Paralysis.

ROM: <-31 HP; Par>

Monferno begins with a super-speedy physical strike. He darts toward ROM who had only just drifted back onto the field and clobbers him with a punch, sending the Poygon-Z’s head spinning once more. Suddenly, ROM closes his eyes and activates some kind of latent defence mechanism. A purple glow shimmers across its body for a moment before vanishing. ROM chirps in delight. What gives?

ROM: <-8 HP; -4 EP; Poison-type>

Oblivious to the true nature of ROM’s transformation, Monferno decides to go for broke with a second Focus Blast. This time, however, the attack doesn’t manage to rocket Porygon-Z into the crowd; in fact, the digital duckie only shuffles back a couple of feet. Its humour circuits are going like mad at the moment as it giggles gleefully. Suddenly, a red glow surrounds its body as it hoists Monferno way up to the top of the tent before letting go. The fiery simian plummets to the ground below with a terrible thud.

ROM: <-8 HP; -7 EP>

Evidently, Monferno still doesn’t get it. Abandoning any hope for defence, Monferno leaps upon ROM and delivers a series of physical blows. Suddenly, the Pokemonkey flies up into the air before colliding with the ground. This happens again. And again. And again. His Special Defence, without warning, takes another dip. ROM bounces in synthetic glee for having avoided getting shut down by Paralysis this round.

DCM calmly recalls his fallen Porygon-Z (ROM, we hardly knew ye… because you lasted barely three rounds) and plucks a replacement Pokeball from his belt. He throws it into the fray and out pops a dragonfly-ish thing that buzzes upon entry into the battle. Nsmbwii and Dogfish leap upon their seats with pies in hand. Smirking devilishly, the two hecklers toss their delicious treats at both Monferno and Hiyru. Both Pokemon take a pie to the face; however, only Hiyru starts to feel awfully ill.

Monferno: <-6 HP>
Hiyru: <-5 HP; Psn>

Monferno eyes up his new foe and smirks. No Bug wannabe is gonna bring him down! He dives upon Hiyru and goes apeshit (no, uh, pun intended) with a series of random physical blows. Sick of getting struck by every attack in the Pokemonkey’s dossier, Hiyru squirms free from Monferno’s hold and shoots up into the sky. Freedom!

Monferno: <-10 EP; -1 Def; -1 SpD>
Hiyru: <-14 HP>

Buzzing way up near the top of the circus tent, Hiyru blows Monferno a raspberry. The flame-tailed fighter growls. Oh, don’t even! In true simian form, Monferno begins scaling the tent pole in an attempt to get up to Hiyru’s level. Once he reaches to top, he leaps and begins swinging his limbs every which way through the air. However, Hiyru smirks and dekes to the right, evading the attack entirely. Monferno lands deftly on the ground and looks up just in time to see Hiyru enter a downward spiral. The Vibrava locks onto Monferno and strikes him in the back of a head with a wickedly fast aerial attack. Monferno shakes his fist in fury.

Monferno: <-18 HP; -10 EP>
Hiyru: <-7 EP>

Monferno grimaces. What with his ailing Defence, that last attack really smarted. Nonetheless, he throws caution to the wind and continues letting his guard down with another flurry of physical strikes that bruise up Hiyru nastily. Hissing in irritation, Hiyru drives his tail into the ground. Suddenly, the entire tent begins to shake around to the point that Monferno is launched right into Nsmbwii! The startled heckler catches Monferno and says what we’re all thinking.

“Er, I think he might be dead?”

Monferno: <-7 HP; -10 EP; -1 Def; -1 SpD>
Hiyru: <-14 HP; -8 EP>

Hiyru celebrates his victory, but the Poison coursing through his veins puts a little bit of a damper on things <-3 HP>.

Ayeun makes her next selection, summoning her Duskull back into the fray—except this time it’s not a Duskull at all, but rather a mighty Dusclops. Ooh. Ahh. Evolved. Before either battler can so much as twitch, Chaos and DL each throw a cream pie. (Chaos indirectly, though, as the cream pie he’s throwing is trapped within the stomach of a fellow heckler… whom Chaos is launching into the battle.) Nsmbwii scrambles out of the ring but the pies already make their effects known. Ice forms around Hiyru, freezing him from head to foot.

Now that Hiyru has been turned into a frigid little statuette, Spook is free to wreak a little havoc. Suddenly, a fierce storm of ice and snow blows into the tent, swirling around Hiyru. Though he’s already trapped in ice, the effects are devastating nonetheless as the storm saps his health away like there’s no tomorrow.

Spook keeps up the physical assault with an Ice Punch. She slams it against the Vibravacicle and it’s somehow clear that she can feel the reverberations all the way inside her icy prison.

Quick as can be, Spook zips in with a rapid physical blow to her frigid friend… who remains tragically frozen. Yikes. Those cream pies are brutal.

DCM returns his fallen Vibrava and instead goes for a Pokemon that is exactly six numbers higher in the National Pokedex. Out pops his fierce Zangoose who flexes his guns menacingly. Chaos then steps up to the plate with a delicious blueberry pie in hand. With flawless form, he tosses the pie right at Fenrus. It collides with a disgusting splat. Fenrus growls. You know what gets blueberry stains out of fur? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! He folds his arms in a huff.

Spook deviously concocts a plan that will screw over this big fugly mongoose for sure. Raising one of his forearms with menacing poise, she brings it slamming down against her opponent. Fenrus is quick to respond to the attack, throwing up his paws to parry the Rock Smash.

Inexplicably, his outstretched paws merely pass right through Spook’s immaterial body. However, there’s nothing immaterial about the Dusclops’s attack, which smokes Fenrus right in the snout. He cups his hands around his face and agony as Spook cackles.

Overjoyed with the way that last Rock Smash went, Spook decides to see if lightning will strike twice. He swings his arm in a club-like manner at Fenrus who throws up his arms to Counter the attack. Just like last time, he takes the blow to the face. Dude, keep that up and you’re going to need a bumload of orthodontic work. This time, the Zangoose can feel his Defence take a dip.

All hell breaks loose as no less than ten hecklers jump up to demonstrate their pie-throwing skills. Filling of the pumpkin, blueberry, apple, cream and custard varieties goes positively everywhere, especially poor Spook and Fenrus. In addition to a healthy dosage of pain, our battlers take home a couple commemorative statuses, too: Fenrus finds his joints stiffened with Paralysis while Spook receives a similar effect in addition to a nasty Burn.

Spook mutters and balls up one of his hands into a fist. Less than thrilled that his lead has entirely evaporated, the Dusclops swings that fist of his at Fenrus. The Zangoose feels his head snap back from the sheer force of that strike and, growling, decides a little Payback is required. Leaping forth as Dark energy consumes one of his fists, Fenrus gives a swing. Spook lets out a wail. Ahh, it burns, it burns!

Paralysis rears its ugly head at Spook as the Dusclops feels his entire body become unbearably rigid. Fenrus lashes out with another Dark-type strike, but the attack lacks a lot of the bite it had mere moments prior.

Suddenly, the Paralysis Demon decides to posses Fenrus briefly. The Zangoose finds himself struck entirely immobile and equally vulnerable as yet another Rock Smash smacks him in the face. That Defence stat of his takes another dip.

The two Pokemon drop their heads in annoyance and, exhausted, don’t even bother cleaning themselves up afterward. Is there no escape from this delicious hell?

As the next round begins, Dogfish is the sole heckler to launch a pie. He whips a tasty cream pie right at la Bella and crosses his fingers for Freeze hacks, but alas, he simply does not get them. La Bella glares at Dogfish irritably.

The next round begins as la Bella hones in on Barricade’s key weaknesses by firing a cannon of water his way. Waterlogged, the sleeping Rhyperior is thrown back into the tent pole, but fortunately his entirely Solid Rock body prevents him from taking the full blow—not that it still isn’t plenty devastating. Of course, since he’s asleep, there’s not really a lot for him to be doing. Can somebody please issue that Rhyperior a wake-up call?

He skids against the muddy water, trying to work up the strength to retaliate with Thunderbolt even as he’s rocketed through the muck. In the end, it’s just too much for him to muster.

Ayeun makes her ninth selection of the battle and summons a squat conifer into battle. However, as Snover take first steps beneath the big top, Blade punishes the little guy with a steaming pumpkin pie. Fortunately, the little tree doesn’t suffer a Burn, but still! He shakes his little fist at Blade. Not cool, man!

As the round gets officially underway, Cootie scorches Snover alive with a merciless Fire Blast. The dual Grass/Ice typing proves problematic for our little seasonal tree as he literally goes up in flames. Flailing around like a maniac, Snover summons a frigid Avalanche to spill into the tent and out those flames. The snow and ice pile upon Cootie, sending a massive chill through her body.

Cootie: <-20 HP; -10 EP>

Freeing herself from the mounds of the snow, Cootie heats things up with another fiery strike, this one a Flamethrower. Once again, Snover must quell the heat with an Avalanche. Whew, at this rate, this battle will last all of three seconds.

Cootie: <-20 HP; -8 EP>

Cootie throws in one more Fire Blast for good measure. However, this one carries an added benefit, though not for Snover: it leaves a massive scorch mark on his left arm that sizzles painfully. Nonetheless, Cootie summons Avalanche number three to wreak havoc.

As the pie-throwing portion of the next round begins, Chaos whips a delicious blueberry pie at Snover. Yup, not much else to say about that.

Snover and Cootie appear to be racing like mad toward the end as they try to push as much damage onto their opponent as physically possible. However, Cootie takes a break from the damage-dealing as she does a little spin in the air. Suddenly, as harsh light begins to enter the tent, Snover kicks up an icy wind to billow in from outside. The strong, cold breeze strikes a chill through Cootie’s entire body.

A second wind now blows through the tent, this one much, much warmer than the last. Cootie commands a massive Heat Wave to gust about the tent, melting away the last of the snow on the Snover’s boughs and bringing him out of the match after two and a half speed rounds.

Ayeun makes her final selection, summoning a yellow lizard to finish up the battle for her. The pies fly yet again and each competitor suffers at the mercy of a delicious dessert. Each pie engenders a different effect. Cootie’s whole body goes rigid as Paralysis starts to set in while Burn, on the other hand, doesn’t succumb to a particular status but nonetheless faces another significant change. He begins to transform, causing his orange scales to go black and his lizard body to go mammalian.

This fox is a tricky one.

Zorua: <-7 HP>
Cootie: <-10 HP; Par>

Zorua waits for Cootie to summon a rainstorm, but the move never comes. With her whole body locked up, Cootie can only watch helplessly as Zorua renews the Sunny Day. The warm glow continues to spill over everything. Zorua basks in it while Cootie, on the other hand, squints her eyes against the glare and seems irritated.

Cootie: <Can’t move!>

Time for a little Foul Play. Before Cootie can even move, Zorua throws himself forward with a powerful physical strike. Just like that, unceremoniously, Cootie is unable to battle.

And so we find ourselves entering the homestretch.

The next round gets underway as DCM summons a rocky beast onto the field. He stomps his foot and sand begins billowing into the tent. Suddenly, the action kicks off with… woah, pie? Gosh, how unusual! Blueberry seems to be the pie du jour as Blade, Chaos and Dogfish all whip delicious blue desserts at the battlers. Zorua takes two to the face while T-Bone suffers one. Suddenly, Paralysis springs up as both battlers find their bodies becoming increasingly rigid. Inteeeense…

Zorua: <-10 HP; Par>
T-Bone: <-20 HP; Par>

T-Bone peers around at the grassy ground and decides to do some weed control. He breathes crackling flames all over the grass which catches aflame, quickly turning into a dangerous blaze. I’m sorry, in what world is that a safe idea? Suddenly, the ropes that keep the tent anchored ignite and the crackling fire travels up toward the canvas. Soon, the entire arena is transformed into a blistering inferno. Ayeun, DCM, Zorua, T-Bone, the hecklers and I are forced to desert our surroundings and flee. We watch as the tent is quickly reduced to cinders. Fortunately, our hecklers’ bottomless trunk of pies was salvaged. Phew.

Now, we find ourselves just beside scorched tent on a fresh plot of grassy earth as sand continues to blow around like mad. Zorua summons shoots to attach themselves to T-Bone, tugging the mighty beast down to the ground. He's sent slamming downward with immense forth.

Zorua: <-5 EP>
T-Bone: <-18 HP; -8 EP>

A little embarrassed after that fiasco, T-Bone nonetheless keeps his composure as he spits a glob of Toxic something-or-other at poor Zorua. As the nasty stuff begins coursing through her veins, Zorua decides to get even by engaging in a little Foul Play. She lashes out against her fellow Dark-type, dealing minimal damage as a result of the typing.

T-Bone: <-6 HP; -5 EP>

Paralysis kicks in for both fighters in unison, rendering them immobile. Huh.

Zorua: <Can’t move!>
