The 2008 Golden Pen Awards ~ Nominations!

Hello all,

2008 is nearing its end, and the Fanfiction Golden Pen Awards are an opportunity to recognise the brilliant work of our members in this past year. First of all, thank you to all those who submitted suggestions for these awards. As a result of your ideas, the awards list has been overhauled to reflect the current state of TPM Fanfic, not only as a more intimate community, but as a writing community where our writers have truly developed beyond genre categorisation. We are trialling these award categories which recognise the different facets of writing, and would appreciate all feedback.

Suggestions are excellent, but to make these awards successful, and ensure that they go to those who most deserve them, we need you to get out and nominate! Nominating is simple.

~ Each person may make one nomination per category.
~ You may nominate in as many or as few categories as you like.
~ No self-nominations please :)
~ All nominations must be posted in this topic by Wednesday 10 December 2008, 23:59:59 Eastern Standard Time.

I nominate Lune The Guardian as Best Reader because she's the most loyal reader I've ever had (and the only one who still follows Quest of Twelve) and she puts a lot of thought into her replies.

I nominate Houndoom_Lover as most improved writer because, while most of her writings are still experimental, she has improved a lot throughout the year.

I also nominate Weasel Overlord for best writer because... read her posts and you'll see why.

My Best Cast nomination goes to "Morphic", by Dragonfree, for the variety of the characters.

As for Best Action, my nomination goes to "Lune" by Lune The Guardian. Best battle scenes I've ever read.

And Best Character in a Supporting Role goes to my all-time favorite Shockwave from "Lune".

I'll try to think of more nominations later.

For Most Original Fiction, I nominate JKBakura's The PLC Journals, his recently debuted fic which puts trading card games in a Degrassi-like setting. I have high hopes for this fic, and maybe this will get it noticed.

I don't read many fics (not being a pokemon/yu-gi-oh fandom person), so my nominations are sparse and repetitive. Ahah, 'pologies.

Hm... I don't want to seem one-sided so I'm only going to make two nominations for now, until I get the chance to read more fics.

I'd like to nominate Lady Vulpix's A Peaceful Land (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17790) for Best New Fiction. It's only two chapters in but I'm already hooked, and definitely can't wait to read more. The characters are deep and the storyline is intriguing.

I'd also like to nominate Lady Vulpix for Most Dedicated Reader. She always makes prompt, helpful replies whenever I post something. Oftentimes, she is the only one who replies to my posts. Her input is really valuable to me, and I really appreciate that she reads my writing in such a dedicated manner.

I've got a few more nominations in mind, but I'm going to wait till I can honestly say that I've read more than one fic for those categories.

[EDIT]: I'm going to nominate Dragonfree's Morphic for Best Character Development. Incredible characterization. The characters just come alive on the page, and there are so many of them it's impressive each of them has their own voice and soul! Uh, if I'm misunderstanding the Best Character Development award (and it's only for one character, or something...) then I'd change the nomination to Best Cast? I guess? Someone let me know please.

I'm nominating Lady Vulpix's Quest of Twelve (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11777) for Best Original Fiction. The language is beautiful and the story is engaging. There are tons of characters with different personalities and backgrounds. It's really cool to see how they all come together on either side. Read it, people! She deserves more readers.
