The recent issue of Coro Coro Comics has started to spill the beans on the upcoming Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.

Some fans have worried that the games would merely be updates to the original Black and White versions. Those worries can be put to rest. Black and White 2 represent a completely new adventure set 2 years after the original Black and White. What's more is that there will also be new player characters and a new rival. Those of you who have missed the old Pokémon in Black and White can now relax. The Unova Pokédex will be expanded to include a total of 300 Pokémon, presumably by adding some Pokémon from past generations. That brings us to the next reveal. These games will still be set in the Unova region, but in a new southern area with new cities and even new gyms!

Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 will be launching in Japan on June 23, and should see release elsewhere a few months later. Stay tuned to TPM for the latest news on the next main installments of the Pokémon series!

Cool! Just got to play my White trough before these babes come around!

Also, the timeline placement (2 years after the original B/W) sounds interesting. Just like good sequels should be. I mean, have exact time relations been stated in Pokemon games before? Nobody said anything like Emerald would happen after Ruby and Sapphire if I've understood correctly.

The only time differences is that Fr/Lg and R/S/E happen at the same time, kinda, with Hg/Ss and D/P/Pt happening three years after. Then B/W happens perhaps five, ten years after that, but it's never specified in-game.

But if you're going to be real canonical, then only Emerald and Platinum occurred, along with the remakes. R/S and D/P never happened.

The only thing the games ever firmly established is that the Gen 2 games (including HG/SS) are set 3 years after the Gen 1 games (including FR/LG).

You could argue that Gen 4 must take place during or after Gen 2 because of the Red Gyarados references. I would guess after, by at least long enough for the Red Gyarados to gain a local legend status so that groups would start searching for it, not knowing that some kid had already stuffed it into a pokeball. Of course, there's no indication in DPP that that Gyarados is the one in Johto.

So yeah, Gen 2, 3 years after Gen 1, and BW2, 2 years after BW, everything else is fan speculation.

It's actually hinted that Hg/Ss occur before D/P/Pt, but only just. Or maybe it goes the Zelda way and there are in fact three timelines or something.

This might be a bit off-topic, but the timeline stuff is interesting always. Then there are the anime series, movie and manga timelines, which are an entirely different world I believe. Some characters even play different roles there, there may be someone who is a 'bad guy' in one story and a 'good guy' in the other one, so they are harder to recognize in different contexts.

This is fantastic news, the sequels sound exciting, refreshing and completely different; I'm wondering if these new leaders replace old ones, and if so, which ones? News of a water gym suggests maybe the Straiton might not be around (since Cress uses water) but who knows.

That's what's so interesting. Even hardcore fans have no idea how the new games will take shape. I'm wondering if there's a fourth form of Kyurem...

There is a fourth form of Kyurem.

It's Reshiram and Zekrom fusing with Kyurem first to make Black Kyurem and White Kyurem, and then when the true hero is decided, Black and White Kyurem will fuse into Original Zekyureshirem: The Legendary Unovan Creator-God Dragon.

"The following characters are returning to compete in the Pokémon World Tournament, an all-star battle between Gym Leaders and Champions in Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2: Sinnoh-region Champion Shirona (Cynthia), Kanto Gym Leader Takeshi (Brock), Kanto Gym Leader Kasumi (Misty), Kanto Gym Leader Sakaki, Kanto Champion Green (Blue), Sinnoh Gym Leader Denji (Volkner), Hoenn Gym Champion Daigo (Steven), and Johto Champion Wataru (Lance).

The characters of the Pokémon Black and Pokémon White games are returning for the two new games, which are set two years later. Bel (Bianca) is now helping Professor Araragi (Juniper), and Cheren is now a Gym Leader."

Although ANN is an anime site, it seems like its confirmed these are actually game details.

I'm thinking there's more to that tournament than that, since there's a screenshot that shows Erika, Janine, and Blaine involved as well. I'm hoping we get to see every single Gym Leader and Champion from the past games. Wouldn't it be fun to see what they've all been up to in the past couple of years? (Personally, I'm just hoping Sabrina is wearing red again...)

I'm curious as to why they're calling Blue the Kanto champ, though. He did hold the position very briefly, but Red took that title away. He's just a Gym Leader now. As for Giovanni being there... Well, maybe he ended his little self-imposed exile (wonder if Silver had anything to do with that) and actually went back to Viridian Gym as a plain ol' Gym Leader (which means Blue, who has nothing to do then, could be going to the tournament in Red's place). If not that, maybe he's just there because he was a Gym Leader previously. (On that note, wonder if we're going to see Juan in the tournament or just Wallace...)

Too bad the Elite 4 members seem to be left out. I sure wouldn't mind another crack at some of them.

I find it kinda weird Cheren is the first gym leader, and he has a l11 Patrat. For someone who strove to be so strong, and kind of was at the end of the game, I thought he would be a tougher leader.

That said, it's nice they're not rehashing Blue from GSC. And I hope Cilan Cress and Chili run some kind of battle restaurant in Straiton/are featured in some way.

Serebii has a shot showing the badge case, partially anyway. Cheren's basic badge is #1 and what looks like the poison gym's badge is #2 (reminds me of a Drapion's tail, or at least the silhouette does).

OMG hey wait does this mean there will be an entirely new anime season where Ash isn't the main character? That would be revolutionary!

Or did they just make the clip to advertise the games?

It's just a clip to advertise the games. It would be SO cool as a spin-off anime or movie though, wouldn't it?

I'd rather take an anime based on the manga (boy, wouldn't that be fun...)

I guess this means N is on your side in B/W2.....but Team Plasma is probably a lot worse considering who's left to run them since they're back too. I'd find it pretty funny if there were some former members of the past enemy teams in their ranks (since I'm sure a number of the mooks from each were in it just to be bad and not for the goals of the team, and with Unova being such a melting pot (despite being half-frozen) now...)

I'm still more curious about that Gym Leader/Champion tournament, but I'm sure we'll find out more in due time.
