Good day, ladies and gents, and welcome to the Temple of the Yoroi! Now that the temple janitors have cleaned up after DL's last battle and the place no longer smells like a barbecue pit, we're ready for another bout of rough-and-temple fisticuffs to take place. Today, Wolfsong will be taking on the Gym Leader for a chance to nab his Kikeiokfkieiaiaiaiaiaiakotai Badge. Who will win? Who will lose? Who will end up vomiting in sheer excitement? (Probably, uh, neither.)

Either way, let the games begin!

DL releases first, summoning his go-to Gallade back into battle, which Wolfsong counters with a Dusknoir. Lotsa those guys have been popping up lately. Either way, Ha-ohmaru begins by tossing up a white veil that drapes itself around his body and offers him protection. Huzzah! Of course, it doesn't do a whole lot of good against the Icy Wind that starts whipping through the pagoda thanks to Clavo. Ha-ohmaru's body feels a little on the numb side as his mobility takes a hit.

Though he's a little slower than he was mere moments prior, Ha-ohmaru still outpaces Mr. Cruz. He snaps his fingers and conjures up a crude imitation of a Gallade that looks next to nothing like Ha-ohmaru but, hey, Clavo is fooled. She blasts the little fake Gallade with a Confuse Ray and it does a whole lot of nothing.

Shenanigans continue as Ha-ohmaru whips up a crackly ball of shadowy delight that bursts against Clavo's ample gut. Yowchies. Grimacing, Clavo Cruz wiggles his hands around and causes the Gallade Substitute to rise up off the ground. It spins around in the air before crashing down, almost broken. Keyword: almost.

The second round gets underway as Ha-ohmaru begins pirouetting and leaping about like some kind of manic gazelle thing. As his offensive prowess rises, Clavo Cruz does a spin on the spot and creates four clonie-clones to keep him company. The five Ghosts give one another high-fives. Um, can you say recreational bowling league? Hells yes!

Let the clone smackdown begin. Ha-ohmaru prances toward the nearest Dusknoir and slices and/or dices right through the illusory Dusknoir. Clavo, meanwhile, kicks up one hell of a blast of wind that throws the Gallade Substitute clear out the window. If you listen closely, I think you can hear its remains getting chewed on by a mountain goat.

Ha-ohmaru picks up a nearby glob of mud (fire those temple janitors, stat) and whips it at... yeppers, another clone. Offering some choice curse words I don't care to repeat here, Ha-ohmaru is left vulnerable to Clavo's final attack of the round: Shadow Ball! The swirling black wall wallops him in the gut and leaves him doubled over in pain. Shenanigans.

As the battle continues, Ha-ohmaru waves bye-bye to Clavo Cruz's clones. His Shock Wave, unable to miss its target, beelines right toward Clavo and electrocutes him thoroughly. His clones pop out of existence. Shaking off that bout of high-voltage, Clavo begins to study Ha-ohmaru's stat boosts and decides to mimic them for himself. Presto, change-o: we have one reasonably souped up Dusknoir on our hands.

It's time for Ha-ohmaru to do what Ha-ohmaru does best. Like Satan's Slap Chop, Ha-ohmaru slices 'n' dices through Clavo Cruz. Clavo then chooses not to use his sexy new Attack boost and instead blasts Ha-ohmaru with a bout of Ominous Wind. Somebody needs to do something about this drafty friggin' craphole temple.

Satan's Slap Chop, redux: Ha-ohmaru yet again cuts into Clavo (once for big chunks for stew, twice for homefries in a second) as the Dusknoir begins to glow like a big ol' freaky Christmas Tree. He then releases a Charge Beam that fries up Clavo. The Ghost begins to feel even stronger.

And with that, both competitors are tied in terms of health. Egads!

The next round begins and Ha-ohmaru is... gone? Has the little fighter gone AWOL? If he has, he makes a u-turn decision pretty quickly and reappears beside Clavo before lashing out with Ghost-type energy. Protected no longer by a Safeguard, Ha-ohmaru is vulnerable to what comes next. Clavo begins laughing darkly and blows out a tiny, guttering flame that sears Ha-ohmaru's face with a Burn. Bet he wishes he had gone AWOL.

Ever the graceful little samurai, Ha-ohmaru sashays and does a rapid pirouette that ends with his scythe tearing into Clavo Cruz. The attack does critical damage, causing Clavo to pout. Dance recitals almost certainly should not end in violence. The Ghost then utters a few words in some ancient tongue that cause Ha-ohmaru to fall down and twitch with pain. Hexes, man. That shit's nuts.

It's Ha-ohmaru's turn to get all bright and Christmas Tree-y. He shoots off a concentrated electrical charge that zaps Clavo Cruz and results in a stat boost on Ha-ohmaru's part. The round ends as Clavo comes in for a super-accurate punch to Ha-ohmaru's face. Damn it! Why is it always the face?

Clavo begins by blending in with the arena's shadows as he invisibly sneaks toward Ha-ohmaru... and lays a little bit of Ghostie smackdown! Ha-ohmaru takes the hit to the gut and falls before hurling a shadowy ball of shadows at Clavo. The spirit lets out a pained wail and threatens to put a curse on Ha-ohmaru and his children, and his children's children... for three months.

The challenger's trusty Dusknoir returns to its Pokeball after a good battle. Wolfsong contemplates her next choice only briefly before sending a new scary-ass Pogey into play: a Hydreigon! Good choice, my friend. Those things are bad to the ass. In an astute display of its badassery, Nick... throws up a Protect! An, um, especially cool and badass Protect! Yeah! Ha-ohmaru tells Nick that he looks like an emo salamander holding sock puppets, but Nick of course cannot hear this thanks to the badass power of Protect.

Nick: <-8 EP>

Nick turns the tables on Ha-ohmaru and makes fun of his peculiar waistline. Hey, oval butt! Didja swallow a watermelon whole or something? For whatever reason, this bizarre Taunt really gets at Ha-ohmaru. He forgets all about the Destiny Bond he was told to conjure up and instead starts blasting Nick with a wide cone of electricity. Of course, Nick's convenient typing allows him to resist the move, so it doesn't do a whole lot.

As Ha-ohmaru wipes the sweat from his brow, Nick finishes the things by attacking with a series of random airborne strikes. They hit one after another and prove to be too much to handle: Ha-ohmaru finally goes down after a strong fight. Nick nods courteously and wishes his opponent good luck sorting out his watermelon butt problem.

The Gym Leader recalls his rough-and-tumble Gallade before summoning another Pokemon to the field. Red light fills the pagoda as a cherubic creature emerges from her Pokeball with spread wings. Nick takes aim at the soaring Togekiss by firing three beams—one of fire, one of electricity and one of ice—at the creature. She tries to erect a Safeguard, but isn't fast enough; the beams collide with her and send her into an uncontrollable tailspin. She manages to spin out of it and save the landing as she gracefully touches down on the ground. Waiting to make sure that no Status effects have been caused by that tricky Tri-Attack, Kys tosses up a glowing white veil that drapes itself around her body protectively.

Nick's body takes on a rugged, rocky coating as he glides toward Kys and barrels into her. However, the Togekiss uses her wings to slow down the sudden assault and then, in an impressive feat of strength, vaults Nick right into one of the suits of armour for super effective damage! He lands on the ground in a crumpled head. That. Fuggin'. Hurt.

Nick pulls himself up after that devastating blow and breaths a narrow stream of bluish energy all over Kys. The Togetic takes the hit and shows that she's not impressed by letting out a single Yawn. A tiny bubble of air wafts toward Nick and bursts against him, inducing immediate fatigue.

The tight race between Kys and Nick keeps on going as Nick, growing increasingly weary, attempts to rouse himself with a combined Substitute/Hyper Voice maneuver. Like a screaming toddler performing macabre arts and crafts, Nick releases a series of powerful sound waves while building a Hydreigon Substitute in his likeness. Voila! Kys, meanwhile, pounds out a powerful energy-based tackle that all but decimates the Substitute.

And with that, Nick teeters over and falls asleep.

We begin as Nick rises and shineses. After a month and a half of sleeping, the big ol' Dragon finally decided to wake up. The ferocious brute beats his tail against the ground aggressively as he commands a fleet of rocks to shoot down from the heavens (or ceiling, or whatever). Boulder after boulder collides with poor little Kys and pin the cherub to the ground. Wah-wah.

Kys wriggles free from her boulder and lets Nick have it with a Super Peeved Glare attack, which does nothing, of course. Unfazed, Nick raises one of his little mouth-hands and shoots off a gleaming ray of supercharged energy. The beam connects and restores Nick's ranged prowess a tad, which only irks Kys further. Deciding it's time to really strike, she releases a sphere of focused mental energy which flawlessly smacks its target right in its gut. Kys tosses her head in a cascade of sparkling plumes. She's got style, she's got grace.

Kys gets to relive an extra special moment of her recent past as another load of boulders smack her relentlessly. She's smushed again but only briefly. Y'know, using one of her fists. Because she has those. Absolutely.

The heated battle gets even heateder as Kys nosedives toward Nick with one of her wings balled up in an awkward fist-ish thing. At the last second, Nick raises a translucent barrier that Protects himself entirely from the Drain Punch. Kys collides like a pigeon into a really, really clean window and bounces off hopelessly. Friggin' Windex.

At that moment, Kys's Safeguard winks out.

Nick's body suddenly become hard and heavy like stone as he swoops toward Kys and tackles her relentlessly. Chirping wearily, Kys pulls herself back up and uses Silver Wind... which is actually super-secret Oslo code for COUNTER. She hoists the gargantuan dragon over her head, lets out a terrific roar (holycrap, you don't wanna hear a Togekiss roar; thing is a BEAST) and then tosses him into a nearby wall-shaped object. And it hurts. A lot.

Nick: <-26 HP; -8 EP>

Though his foe is so close to defeat, Nick decides to ease up on the gas and Thunder Wave his ailing foe instead of attacking. He releases a heavy charge of electricity that overcomes Kys and renders her body stiff and rigid. However, she's not so encumbered that she can't attack with one final Aura Sphere. Conjuring a mass of chi energy with a flick of her feathers, Kys hurls the Aura Sphere toward Nick who is promptly thrown into a suit of armour. He's defeated.

Now that Nick is out of commission, Wolfsong has no choice but to recall her fallen Hydreigon and send a replacement onto the field. She throws her next Pokeball and the pagoda is filled with crimson light as a four-legged tank lumbers out into battle. However, the Alec is surprisingly swift on its feet: it jets off across the field and thrusts one of its legs forward, cocking Kys over the head and throwing her back a ways. If that weren't enough, Paralysis decides to do what Paralysis does best by clipping Kys's wings and rendering her immobile. Judging by that look on her face, she's barely holding on.

The match is deadlocked two-all as the Gym Leader's Togekiss is returned to her Pokeball. DarkestLight pauses only momentarily before summoning his next fighter: a tall, agile mantis that flourishes its deadly pincers for all to see. Alec lets out a roar before slamming one of its weighty legs against the floor. Suddenly, rocks tumble down from the ceiling and trap Krauser in a makeshift tomb. All is still and silent for a moment before Krauser wriggles free, looking understandably miffed. I'd be a little peeved too if somebody wrapped me up in a blanket made of boulders. The Scizor's wings rapidly beat and kick up an otherworldly windstorm. Alec hunkers down against the gale. Even with the Technician boost, it's nothing he can't weather.

Alec slams its other leg against the pagoda flooring (which I'm sure is just doing wonders for the foundation) and causes the ground to rumble violently. Krauser tries to maintain its balance but is ultimately tripped up and taken down. Another windstorm rises, this one laced with silver. It seems to be slightly more effective than the last. Yippee?

Instead of outright attacking, Alec holds off and waits for Krauser to make the first move. The Scizor glides through the air with a pincer raised. At the last second, Alec takes careful aim and meets the Night Slash with a DynamicPunch. Both Steel-types are knocked backwards. Though Alec appears to have taken more damage thanks to a critical hit, Krauser seems a bit unbalanced after that hit. He stumbles. Buddy looks like he's riding the rum train all of a sudden.

With both battlers just about deadlocked, it's anybody's game. Alec decides it needs even more Speed and begins glowing as though smothered in polish. How exactly this raises its Speed is anyone's guess, but the Metagross definitely does look at least a little more agile. Krauser, meanwhile, seems to be having a hard go of things. He begins boxing himself in the face with its pincers. Ouch.

Suddenly, Alec gives a command and swell of jagged rocks materialize and crash downward from the ceiling. Argh! Krauser tries to take cover but isn't fast enough. The Scizor quickly winds up much like that centipede I found last night: squashed underneath the spine of my book. However, while that centipede died, Krauser remains alive as he eventually wiggles free from the rocks and stumbles toward the Wildfire orb. He picks it up and the accompanying suit of armour comes to life, smothering Alec in a steady assault of flamey goodness.

The battle rages on as one of Alec's arm/leg-things once again sizzles with electric current. Hrm, what to do with this thing? Oh, yeah, smack Krauser in the face with it, of course. And that's exactly what happens. And it hurts. But Krauser's all like bitch, please, and begins fluttering his wings in a manner than is both dainty yet extremely intimidating. Purplish gusts roll across the field and batter Alec's sturdy exterior, but not in the delicious way.

Alec waves his arm again and summons another bevy of rocks to tumble downward. Krauser begins moving with unpredictable Speed and avoids the onslaught... well, sort of. A number of stray boulders still manage to clip him and do partial damage.

Krauser suddenly smirks, opens his pincers and fires off a reddish blast a Fighting-type energy at Alec. The attack leaves a minor dent in the Metagross's sturdy enamel but doesn't do quite as much damage as the Earthquake to follow. Krauser tries to brace himself, but he's tossed harshly into the Wildfire pedestal. Nursing his back, Krauser begins fondly imagining a distant future in which he's a retired Scizor and doesn't have to deal with asshole Metagrosses anymore. Yep, that'll be the day.

As the Scizor grows nicely agile, Alec decides to put a kibosh on the big ol' Bug's eyesight as a blinding Flash ripples through the air. Krauser rubs his poor, sore eyes and scowls. Krauser might be the Bug here, but methinks Alec might be the true pest.

Krauser lands back down on the ground at the most inconvenient time. Alec slams a hoof-type thing against the floor and casts out a sea of miniature ripples that throw off the mantis's balance. Thrown harshly to the ground, Krauser nonetheless beats those widdle wings of his as hard as he can. Sonic ripples diffuse throughout the arena and buffet poor Alec mercilessly. Anybody got any earmuffs?

As Alec hunkers down against the gale, Krauser receives a blessing. Huzzah!

Krauser is only holding on by a hair as Wolfsong releases her next Pokemon, summoning the second Gallade of the match. The mantis and the warrior stare one another down before executing a mad blitz of attacks: stars, waves, poisonous gunk and a whole lot more fling every which way. Krauser, the Speedier of the two Pokemon, executes his moves just a little more rapidly, striking Jabin with his medley of moves before the Gallade can raise his defences. Thus, the Gallade is struck by Toxic before his Safeguard can fly up and his Vacuum Wave can end things for Krauser. Nonetheless, Krauser takes the minor hit and is swiftly overcome.

The Gym Leader raises a Pokeball and returns Krauser for a nice, long rest. Reaching for another ball from his belt, the Gym Leader summons his final Pokemon to the field: a large, aggressive she-kangaroo. Darwin is first to attack and *DELETE* kicks things off with a wave of NORMAL-TYPE ENERGY 'CAUSE IT'S A FORESIGHT, which sweeps over Jabin and locks him into our plain of existence... whatever that means. Unsure entirely what just happened, Jabin nonetheless keeps things going with a pulsating wave of focused mental energy. The attack throws Darwin back a bit, but the kangaroo holds strong.

Shenanigans continue as Darwin locates an old sweater, some mints and free tickets for Dire Straits live in concert and somehow manages to craft all of them together into a stunning Kangaskhan replica! What skill! What vision! Jabin, meanwhile, tries to Double Team but his ability to produce clonie-clones has been compromised. Darn.

The real Darwin plods over to one of the remaining orbs, picks it up off the pedestal and causes a massive blast of Flying-type energy to be released from the accompanying suit of armour. Jabin is hurled backwards and lands in a crumpled heap. Poor guy. He gets back up and attacks the Substitute with a Poisonous Jab, managing to leave a noticeable dent.

Enjoying a comfortable lead over his foe, Darwin does her best to widen it as she conjures up a purdy little Shadow Ball and flings it madly at Jabin. The ball bursts against the warrior but, rather than retaliating, Jabin decides to score a few z's. Exhaustion washes over him as he keels over and Rests. His wounds begin to heal as the poison leaves his system.

Darwin keeps up the assault with a furious Blizzard. Swells of snow and ice spill into the arena and whip against Jabin in a most unfriendly manner. Suddenly, the slumbering warrior leaps up like a charmed puppet and begins plodding over to Darwin. Zombie-Jabin then tears into the Kangaskhan's Substitute with a powerful Psycho Cut with almost enough strength to destroy the thing. Almost.

Darwin strikes his foe hard with a second Shadow Ball, which carries the fortunate side-effect of causing Jabin's Special Defence to take a dip. Darwin barks laughter... and it's not a pretty sound. Jabin once again does the whole zombie/puppet shtick and leaps to his feat before shooting off a shimmering Electric beam. The beam destroys the Substitute and causes newfound strength to course through Jabin's body... not that he's, er, conscious enough to notice.

The battle presses onward as Jabin revisits familiar territory: the Constitutional Republic of SHADOW BALL TO THE FACE. The slumbering Gallade is tossed backwards from the powerful hit and slumps over like a rag doll on muscle relaxants before hopping back up with vengeance in his eyes. (Or his eyelids, maybe, 'cause his actual eyes are closed.) The Gallade slides into Darwin like a scythe-wielding baseball player and scores a Low Kick, sending Darwin on a one-way trip to Democratic People's Republic of FALLSOVER. Darwin hopes she never has to go back.

Jabin: <-13 HP; -8 EP>

Darwin goes for another repeat strike, this time tossing a second needlessly cold and all-around unpleasant Blizzard across the field. Ice starts to enclose around Jabin except, oh wait, no it doesn't; Safeguard kicks that pesky Freeze Status to the curb. Bouncing back rather quickly, Jabin Sleep Talks once more and calls up a Taunt. He turns to Darwin and calls her a mrrrrrrph... uuuungh... plfffft... okay, so as it turns out it's actually really hard to articulate a Taunt when you're asleep, but the move takes effect nonetheless. Darwin clenches her fists and growls. Ain't nobody calls her a mrrrrrrph and lives to tell about it.

With that, Jabin wakes up just as his Safeguard vanishes. You win some, you lose some.

Both Darwin and Jabin exchange their next round of powerful moves: a Shadow Ball and a Focus Blast whip across the field and throw both battlers against opposite walls. Methinks this battle is gonna be over soon. AND IT'S CLOSE-ISH? KIND OF? BOY HOWDY, HOW EXCITING.
