Hey, I got the starters yesterday! Also, I learned that, after saving, the start game menu has no direct restart option, only Continue, which freaked me out. Luckily you can still restart by pressing up + x + B.

The games have never had a restart option... only the button combination. Unless you're talking about 'New Game', in which case the most recent games wouldn't let you save anyway because you had a save file and when you restart, it goes straight to the opening cutscene.
Also, using Wonder Trade will get you some Pokemon you need, and if you want some legendaries, put up a starter, preferably one with a hidden ability.
