And now, because I can, I am reposting a poll I originally created in 2007. (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16709)

1. When was your last blackout?
2. How long did it last?
3. Cause any problems?
4. What did you do to pass the time?
5. Any fond blackout memories?

1. My last blackout was while I was working at the game arcade at Crown casino, circa February 2009.

2. Can't remember. At least half an hour, probably longer.

3. Yes. I've had several brownouts since (I hate that phrase), but the only time the power went out across all of Crown, the reaction of people was bizarre. First, of course, we had to eject all customers from the premises. At the time, our venue had an escalator from the main complex leading down into the arcade, which we fenced off. People upstairs started banging on the gates trying to get in like some kind of zombie movie. I don't know if they were trying desperately to exit, or really wanted to play some powerless games.

4. Waited. Went home.

5. Ehh, I already covered these last time I made this thread.

1. About three years ago. A storm knocked out a generator that affected my apartment complex.

2. 3 hours.

3. Not really. My friend was pretty upset because he was using the internet playing an online game where he had literally just finished beating what he said was a difficult ogre boss and he didn't even get to save his progress. He said it took him an hour to kill the boss and now he had nothing to do.

4. Went into my apartment and played my DSi.

5. Don't remember.

Back to the substitute family in Haapavesi, some Finnish inside jokes about a bunch of thieves sneaking in the night.

1. Sometime in February, it was a Tuesday.
2. Just a few hours, but the previous one was 2 days, and I was lucky, some had it much worse.
3. Annoyance because I was working from home and I had to go to my brother's place to finish the job.
4. I had to work, so I did it from my brother's place.
5. During the 48-hour blackout, I had taken all the food in my fridge/refrigerator to my grandparents' house except for a plate of ravioli, and I had to cook them in by candlelight and improvise a sauce with the things I had in my cupboard. It was an interesting experience, and they came out quite good! I called them Twilight Ravioli.

OK, serious time.
1. When was your last blackout?
It's been a while. I think the last time we lost power was during Hurricane Sandy (or "Superstorm Sandy" as the media liked to call it). That's impressive given the winter we've had. All that snow and the power stayed on. Ironically enough, that last power outage finally pushed my parents to get a generator and we haven't lost power since.

2. How long did it last?
Hurricane blackouts are the worst, but we've been lucky with them. It's usually a matter of hours and not days. The longest one was from Hurricane Isabel in '03, that knocked the power out for 22 hours.

3. Cause any problems?
The one in '03 did. We were afraid that the food in our fridge would go bad. During one storm, we had a fridge full of food for an upcoming party, my mom was freaking out that we'd lose all of it. Thankfully, the power came back on early enough that nothing went bad.

4. What did you do to pass the time?
Well, I've done various things in the past, as a kid, I would play my Game Boy (which thankfully, ran on batteries back then). After hurricanes, we usually walk around the neighborhood to survey the damage, and in the past two, we mostly passed the time scooping water out of the sump pit. Fun! Yes, it only took two consecutive years of doing that for my dad to decide to get a generator to plug the sump pump into.

5. Any fond blackout memories?
Mostly, that feeling when the lights come back on. But one time, when I was a kid, I had a solar powered K'nex windmill, which I thought of taping pieces of paper to the blades and using it as a fan. Didn't work so well with the storm clouds and all, but give me credit for coming up with the idea.
