View Full Version : Attention everyone in the London area

I'll be heading your way soon! I'm arriving on the 24th of July and leaving on the 4th of August, and it would be amazing if I could meet at least some of you in person.

So... Would you like to arrange a meetup? :D

Let me just consult my calander...

*stares at all the blank dates* I am free ^^ Not technically in the London area, but close enough. I will contact some of the other homies and see what they're up to.

Yay! I hope we can arrange something. It would be great! :keke:

Whatcha going to London for, boss Lady?

Lady Vulpix
6th July 2015, 03:15 PM
To celebrate my doctorate.

ChobiChibi

I like that reason :D I'm graduating again next week, we can celebrate together :D

Is there any day that's best for you? Travel will probably be cheaper for me on a weekday, but I still need to ask people if they're free ^^; let me know if there's anything you want to see/do while you're there, my specialisms in London mostly consist of nerdy shopping and finding stereotypical "English" food (Barry had a full English breakfast, Shannon had a roast dinner XD).

10/10 would eat again.

Err... I'm a vegetarian. I hope that's not a problem. I haven't made any plans yet, so whenever most of you are available will work. I've been asking people for things to see, and the recommendations I've received so far were Prince Edward Hall, Baker Street, a pub named Shakespeare's Head (I don't like alcohol, but I suppose there's something special about that place?), and a Doctor Who museum in the outskirts of London. I don't know how to get to any of those places yet, though, and I'm open to new recommendations. I've also heard that the London metro is special somehow, or at least much better than the one we have here.

Of course it's not a problem, I'll just have to find something suitable for you ^^

You'll probably be using the underground (metro) every day, it's not that special, but it is fairly reliable. I'd suggest getting an Oyster card for the underground, it works out a little cheaper and you just top it up as you go.

If you can find websites for those places I can probably help you find them. Baker Street is easy, other than that I'm not sure.

Shannon come back :)

Thanks! This is what I've found on the web:
Prince Edward Hall (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Prince-Edward-Hall/159428414076384)
The Who Shop (http://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/11912084-who-shop)
Shakespeare's Head (http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/shakespeares-head-soho/c3053/)

Get a Cloyster card, Gabi!

Oh my, I'd love to tag along and finally meet you, you've always been one of the most sweet members here. But alas, too short of notice and my funds are sparse from the move :(

English breakfast was delicious <3 :)

Aww, thanks, Barry! :keke: But wait, you're in the USA, right? If, given enough time, you can save up enough money for a trip to the UK, then why not visit Argentina instead? That way we can meet at any time. :)

Sorry for the double post, but it's been 5 days and no one else has posted.

So... When and where can we meet? I need to know before I leave!

Blademaster

When
I would suggest the last week of July.

where
I would suggest England.

I hope my suggestions are helpful.

By the looks of things it's just going to be me. I'm planning to get a coach that comes in to London Victoria, do you know where you're staying? I thought the 29th (Wednesday) would be good. I'll double check coaches (I need to get one as cheap as possible ><) and confirm ^^

Then I'll try and work out the best kinda place to meet. Victoria is huge and not easy to meet up, especially if the other person doesn't have a phone that works here ^^;

I've replied to your message on Facebook. So... Wednesday under the Big Ben? Shall we set a time and specific meeting point? I've never been there before, and I would hate to miss you.

If you head to Westminster on the underground and exit the tube station, it's just across the road :) Cross the road, and stand under Big Ben so that you can be seen from the road, and that is where I will go. If you're not there, I'll wait for you.

My coach gets in at 10:45, and apparently it only takes 3 minutes on the tube, but shall we say meet at 11:15 to be safe? If I'm going to be delayed, I'll send you a message via Facebook, like I said there are lots of free wifi hotspots in London (Starbucks, McDonalds, pretty much anywhere you can eat or get coffee has Wifi) that only require an email address to get access to. There is a Starbucks as you exit Westminster, so I guess that's a good place to try? XD

I'll send you my phone number just incase anything goes wrong, I'm not sure how many phone boxes there are in London now, but I'm sure if you went into a shop they'd let you borrow their phone :)

EDIT: I just looked up your journey from the hotel to Westminster, should take you about 12 minutes on the District Line heading east from either Earl's Court or High Street Kensington. I'm sure by then you'll be used to getting the tube from either of those locations ^^ There are apps available that can calculate routes for you if you're not sure (mine is called "Tube App").

Er... I don't have a smartphone (never felt it was worth the cost), but I'll get a map as soon as I arrive. I do have a netbook I can use, though, so I'm sure I'll have Internet access at irregular intervals. Thanks for all your help. I look forward to meeting you next Wednesday. :)

Thanks for everything, Becky! It was great meeting you in person, and I had a great time.

Sorry I took so long to write this, it's hard to get online at the hotel. But I wanted to thank you for dedicating your day to me and for making it such an awesome day. :D

So just a 1 day outing with Becky? Heald and Kirst also reside in England, right?

ChobiChibi
3rd August 2015, 08:23 AM
I was still late meeting Heald before you got there, Shaz XD

It was lovely to meet you too, Gabi! ^^ I too had a really nice day, I'm glad you enjoyed the places I always visit, and like I said at the time, it was nice to go to the natural history museum without screaming children XD

I did contact both Heald and Wurze, they were both busy. Neither of them live "as close" to London as me (in still about 3 hours away).

Yes, there were other people I wish I could have met, but it was great nonetheless! Photos of the day out with Becki start on page 11.
