I have always been under the impression the name Shannon is also Irish for either little old wise one or little old wise owl.

Funny how you're not the only person here with a unisex name shazza...mine is too (there was a woman named Kyle on Jeopardy last week who was champion for a few games). Happy belated birthday BTW.

Shannon isn't used as a male name over here in the UK, but I can imagine a lot of Aussie surfer types are named it.

Also, I reached out to some random dude on Instagram a few weeks ago, because he was into Pokemon, from Aus and nicknamed 'Shazza' - I asked him if he knew of the Pokemasters (to determine if he was you) - and he said he didn't have a clue what I was going on about. sad times!!
