View Full Version : The 2020 US Election Thread, Born Anew (or was there one?)

So, 2020. Conventions behind us, debates ahead, election about two months away.

So, for those who've been following - what are you thinking? Biden? Trump? Who do you prefer? Who do you think is realistically most likely to elect?

I'll post my answers later as it's been a long day and can't be bothered right now. All I can say is I'm pretty sure the forecast will be clearer after the debates.

I vote for the candidate who will send us twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

I'm voting for a candidate who can trump Donald. That candidate is the one and only Joe Biden (as far as I'm concerned about Trump, I cannot stand him at all, and I've had enough of his BS. It's time for him to face reality; fake news is gonna give way to real news if Trump loses the election).

In a nutshell, I hope Trump doesn't get another 4 years as president of the United States. If I get another opportunity to visit the United States someday (the only state I've been to is Maine), I hope it's when Trump is no longer president (and the sooner that happens, the better).

That makes two of us. I also hope there are cops waiting to arrest him when he leaves the White House in January for all of the crimes that he has committed.

Literally voting how? Aren't you in Canada?

I'm afraid Trump can't buy the entire Canada to join the USA. He did attempt to buy Greenland from Denmark though. I could have swindled him for some money because my surname is Finnish for Denmark, we all know about Trump's knowledge on Finnish names.

I am in Canada, yes. I'm just saying that if I could get in a vote, it would go to Biden hands down.

I'd vote for Trump if it was Judd Trump.

Kind of a mess. Trump was constantly interrupting, not allowing Biden to talk. At one point Trump was even arguing with the moderator, which is unheard of. Trump answered non of the questions and even refused to denounce white supremacist, when he was given the chance to do so.

For me, the highlight of the night was when Biden told Trump to shut up. It was about time someone stood up to him publicly and told him off to his face, which Biden did do a few times during the debate.

Oh, that's Trump for you...once an idiot, pretty much always an idiot. But I'm satisfied that Biden put Trump in his place when he told Trump to shut up. It's a shame that the Trump Donald game (the one where you use a trumpet to mess with Trump's hair; it is sooo funny!) was taken down though (has anyone here heard of it?); I can't help but wonder if Trump himself wanted it taken down to stop people who dislike him from mocking him?

I never heard of that game but making fun of his hair is a fairly common thing to do.

Do you honestly just log on with the sole purpose of saying stupid shit nowadays?

The country has seen over 228 thousand deaths and a catastrophic spike in the unemployment rate due to a lack of a competent response to the pandemic.

He has repealed laws on gun restriction for the mentally unwell, while also applauding the actions of police officers that resort to lethal shootings as a means of deescalation.

He has empowered neo-fascists to parade his statements as a slogan, while in the past declaring others of their ilk as "very fine people".

He has demeaned women, defined fallen soldiers as losers and compared himself to America's most celebrated presidents.

This is after winning an election with fewer votes, following a campaign trail that should not have even survived past this bullshit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX9reO3QnUA) in the first place.

Looks like Biden won. I'm happy with this outcome.

It looks like Trump plans on doing everything in his power to de-legitimize the results with various lawsuits and spreading conspiracy theories.

Trump is finally officially out and Biden is officially in.

It looks like Biden has already begun undoing some of the damage that Trump did.

As an Asian American it feels like neither party actively goes after the Asian Vote.

I never flat out said it at TPM, but I've always voted Conservative even ran for Local Party Chairman of the Republican Party.
Assuming TPM Remembers "Airplane Day" I am Adopted and always been pro Adoption.

I honestly am pretty meh about the last 4 years. I live in Texas where we voted Cruz in 2016, and I personally voted for Bill Weld in the 2020 Republican Primaries.
I know this isn't gonna be popular since most of the gaming/pokemon community leans left, but yeah.
I know some Trump Republicans even wanted to kick out any Republican that didn't vote Trump in the 2020 Primaries it got pretty crazy.

To note I also live in Houston where it's pretty diverse and the Republican Party locally seems more open to maybe other parts of the United States.
The Party Has a long way to go, especially with LGBTQ issues, even with in the party where LGBTQ Republicans have been silenced at the Republican State Convention.

I ran into some people the other day that literally wanted to kill all Trump voters, that is a concern though,
If you think the people who stormed the capitol stormed the capitol should have been shot or believe in basic self defense in General that's fine
But it's overall dangerous wanting someone to die because they voted the other way.

Before Trump, I was always a believer that who ever the best candidate is, regardless of political party, is the person you should vote for. After the last four years, I just don't see myself voting for a republican for a very long time.

Trump lies constantly, treats our allies poorly, sucks up to our enemies, and has done things that would have caused any other president to be impeached multiple times over (destroying the postal service, asking other countries to interfere in our election, etal), yet the republican party bent over backwards to coverup/support and/or turn a blind eye to all of this.

To top it all off, his supporters have turned into a cult that believe every single one of his lies. When provided with facts that prove Trump lied, they refuse to accept it and claim the facts are lies. They even stormed the capital because they believe his lies about the election.

I don't want to see anyone killed but I have no problem with locking up anyone that commits crimes, regardless of political party, simply because they don't agree with the other party.

Fett One pretty much summed up everything there is to dislike about Trump; prior to the events that happened in the Capitol just over two weeks ago, I could never imagine Trump provoking such a heinous event. But after hearing about the people who died in that event, it strengthened my dislike of Trump to an extreme level. As someone with a very strong sense of justice, I can imagine that this was by far the worst thing Trump has ever done. Now that he is no longer president of the United States, I hope Trump pays dearly for all the crimes he committed. I hope the long arm of the law catches him someday.

Fett One: I don't disagree a lot of his supporters are a cult, but not everyone who voted for him in 2016 or 2020 is part of that cult.
His own wife has openly talked about how she doesnt like some of his words.

Knight of Time, even if he provoked people, I think people have to be responsible for their own actions,
Just because some people broke into the capitol doesn't mean u can blame other people or Trump.

From an international perspective, there have been a hugely negative response to what is perceived as the Republican Party's attempts to invent allegations of electoral fraud where none actually took place, as well as refusal to accept the result of the election pretty much up until Biden's inauguration (with dozens of Republicans holding elected positions continuing to spread lies regarding the legitimacy of the result). As the Republican Party itself continues to allow prominent members of their own party to try and undermine democracy, many view this as a dangerous precedent.

In the eyes of many, including myself, you can either support the democratic process or support the Republican Party, who seem to have nothing but contempt for the votes for millions of Americans.

The Democrats tried to say Trump Cheated as well because Russia.
The couldn't believe ANYONE could vote for him and cried for 4 years about it.

Republicans basically said you cheated this time in Response.
Doesn't matter if one is true, both are true, or both are false.
Basic tit for tat US politics.

As someone who DID work the US Elections though, I think people who think "Biden Cheated"
underestimate some people flat out didn't vote in 2016, I ran into a lot of Obama Voters who flat out told me they didn't vote since 2008.
So more people voted this time for sure.

But 100% of the an entire mail in one batch for Biden in WI was kinda sus, you never get 100% of the vote.
Washington DC the most Liberal Place in the entire US gets 95%ish D vote you don't ever get 100%.

* Texas Drops you from the Voters Role if you go 2 Presidential Elections (or 8 years total of not voting)
** It doesnt Expire if you vote for anything else during the 8 years like School Board, City Council or whatever you literally have to go 8 years without voting for anything

Also Heald if Trump won there would have been still an issue knew many Democrats here that flat out said if he won again theyd tear the entire thing down.
Im not saying what happened at the capitol was right btw, but whoever won someone was gonna protest and get upset, that's how divided we are right now.
The Republican Party literally had 6 people not wanting to certify the vote btw (US Senators).
Trump != (does not equal) The RNC.
