really ancient problem

cleaning out my room...i found my red version (japanese) and...it's from...2-3 years ago, left untouched.
i've got...150 pokemon there. it was said that in the japanese version you can get mew after you caught the 150?
i went to talk to prof. oak, nothing happened....sigh....what am i supposed to do?
