Well, this is it. At the beginning, 64 characters that have entered this melee. There was the famous chipmunk Alvin, the portal master Rudy, the wanted outlaw Vash, and the brilliant swordsman Samurai Jack, among others. The competition has finally ended (And the moderators can close this thread if they want to), and the winner is none other than Calvin!

http://www.mtbca.com/calvin.jpg
Calvin and Hobbes was a comic strip that lasted for a little over ten years about a six-year-old philosopher named Calvin and his equally-intellectual stuffed tiger, Hobbes. Bill Watterson, the cartoonist, grew increasingly tired over the rules and regulations given to him by the syndicate (more specifically, The American Syndicated Press) and retired in December 31st, 1995. Watterson now focuses on painting and playing music.

But how is a series about a little boy and his best friend so amusing? Calvin is such a troublemaker that he has becme the arch-enemy of almost everyone he sees, from Miss Wormwood, his teacher, to his very own parents, to Rosalyn, the occasional babysitter. I can't explain the humor Watterson uses, except that it's far above what a six-year-old should find funny. f you haven't read any Calvin and Hobbes, go to your local bookstore and find a collection. Why not?

The match was never close. Rocko juggernauted his way to the Finals, beating Mickey Mouse in the Semifinals to get there. But Calvin was an even more threatening juggernaut--he beat Homer Simpson in the same round. Votes were coming in at a two-to-one ratio in favor of Calvin, until the very end, when the last vote for Calvin threw off the steady 66.667% he was receiving. For all of you wishing to see Rocko go down, here it is. For those of you who want to avenge the fall of Vash the Stampede, you're out of luck.
Round 1: Calvin beat InuYasha 14-6 (70.000%)
Round 2: Calvin beat Shrek 18-3 (85.714%)
Round 3: Calvin beat Wallace 25-6 (80.645%)
Quarterfinals: Calvin beat Vash the Stampede 21-13 (61.765%)
Semifinals: Calvin beat Homer Simpson 24-18 (57.143%)
Finals: Calvin beat Rocko 17-8 (68.000%)
Whoopage Ratio: 70.545%

Also, nominations are now open for The Winter 2003 Cartoon Character Contest! This time, there will be five Divisions of 16, ending in a 5-person battle royale! But not actually battling. You'll still be voting. There are a few rules for nominating a character though.
1. You may nominate up to five (5) characters.
2. One character per series in the tournament. That means if Kenny McCormick (South Park) was already in the tournament, that means no Eric Cartman or Wendy Testaberger or Uncle Jimbo.
3. The top four contestants for the first four Divisions in this contest will automatically be in the 2nd (rearranged if needed). Division 5 lacks four strong competitors, so there will be three instead.
4. If any of your selections can't be put into the tournament, it doesn't count against your five.
5. When a Division is full, nominations for that Division are closed. That's pretty easy to figure out.
6. The nominations from GameFAQs are in this list as well.

Vash *check*

Inu Yasha *check

Spike from cowboy bebop

Yusuke from YYH(or Hiei)

Goku...vegeta? wtf..goku OWNS vegeta, you make me CRY..

Ranma..*check*

Also I wouldnt mind seeing a random love hina character...but those people are prolly some of the most popular anime characters ever..Keitaro > this contest...heh.

Oh, as for the vote, Rocko is god, and he is the greatesttoon ever, save maybe some family character, like stewie. so rocko gets my vote.

I'm voting for Calvin. He has more potential for winning than Rocko does, and I stopped watching Rocko's show a long time ago. Go, Calvin!

By the way, Dr_Omicron, I have a suggestion. Whoever wins this tournament, are you sure you want to include them in the next one (since they are both in)? It could very well lead to another land-slide victory for Calvin/Rocko. Just my 2 cents.

Here are my nominations (if you need more, I'll give ya more :D):

Division 1-Disney/Dreamworks
* Patch (101 Dalmations)

Division 2-Viacom/The Funnies
* Bucky Katt (Get Fuzzy)

Division 3-Anime
* Sailor Mercury a.k.a. Amy Anderson (Sailor Moon)

Division 4-WB/FOX
* Jackie Chan (Jackie Chan Adventures)

Division 5-Miscellaneous
* Crow T. Robot (Mystery Science Theater 3000)

You don't have to nominate one character per division. You can just nominate completely randomly. I'll fill in the Divisions myself.

If you want to nominate one per division, then keep in mind that Viacom owns Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Paramount Pictures. I've noticed a lot of confusion over this.

Nominations for Division 3 are now CLOSED due to all 16 vacancies being filled up. Check the first post for more details.

The following nominations can't be accepted because the series is already represented. If any of these are your nominations, feel free to nominate someone else or ask to replace the current character with yours:

Hobbes (Calvin & Hobbes)
Donkey (Shrek)
Stewie Griffin (Family Guy)
Brian Griffin (Family Guy)
Ron Stoppable (Kim Possible)
Gromit (Wallace & Gromit)
GIR (Invader ZIM)
Bender (Futurama)

The following nominations can't be accepted bvecause they were never in a cartoon (at least from my knowledge). If they did show up, let me know and I'll put them in.

Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
Sephiroth (Final Fantasy 7)
Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Well then, to be fair, Crow T. Robot is not an acceptable nominee. Mystery Science Theater 3000 is a show with real people, and Crow is a puppet made out of tupperware; he's not a cartoon. He's the guy in my avatar under my name; he does look kind of like a cartoon in that picture, doesn't he? I'm guessing that means he is not eligable for the next contest. :( Do puppets count, like the Muppets, or are puppets and Muppets not allowed?

If Crow is out, and I still get to nominate someone, I'll nominate Abraham Lincoln from Clone High USA (an MTV cartoon).

My vote Calvin
He beat Shrek, Wallace (who was getting way too many votes), Vash and Homer he can kick Rocko's "Bleep"

For the WB/Fox division i nominate Joey Wheeler from Yu-gi-oh,
Ozzy from Ozzy and Drix, The holiday sock from any kids WB special you can think of and Imhotep from the Mummy

oh yeah Diddy Kong for micsellanous There used to be an old cartoon called Donkey Kong Country

Dr_Omicron
18th August 2003, 06:54 PM
Crow is allowed, since puppets are eligible. Man, I never realized that the line between cartoon and live-action is so blurred.

Joey Wheeler is not eligible because he is an anime character (manga, to be more precise; his Japanese name is Jonouchi Katsuya) and Division 3 is completely filled up. You'll have to pick someone else.

I've noticed a pattern between Miscellaneous and video game characters. I was hoping that this would be filled with foreign shows, like Tin Tin, and a bunch of other random misfits who don't belong on the top four divisions. I guess I'll put in my own nominations:

Spongebob Squarepants (Spongebob Squarepants)
Mandark (Dexter's Laboratory)
Kenny McCormick (South Park)
Z (Antz)
Ernie Elf (Keebler's)

Pikachu101
18th August 2003, 07:16 PM
another nomination for division 2
Jorgen von Strangle, Toughest fairy in the universe from the fairly oddparents

mr_pikachu
19th August 2003, 01:12 PM
GO CALVIN!

My nominations:

Jason Fox (FoxTrot; comic strip)
Bugs Bunny (Looney Toons; TV cartoon)
Lan (Megaman NT Warrior; TV cartoon on WB)
Sakura Avalon (Cardcaptors/Cardcaptor Sakura; WB and manga, I think)
Garfield (Garfield; comic strip)

Okay, there you have it! btw, if Sakura Avalon is ineligible for the division of WB because of the manga comics, I'll change my pick later. Thanks! :D

EDIT: Meh, typos... XP

Go Calvin!

Nominations:

Division 1-Disney/Dreamworks

Division 4-WB/FOX
* Henry Wong* (Digimon Tamers)
Kitty/Shadowcat (X-Men Evolution)

Division 5-Miscellaneous
* Olive** (Olive The Other Reindeer)

*Yes, Henry Wong is an Anime character, BUT Digimon Tamers was shown on Fox.

**If you need a picture of Olive, just ask.

Alright! That's great! The voting has ended...three days ago. Sorry I couldn't be around; homework started to seriously hold me back. I'll be updating the nominations shortly. Here are the ones that couldn't get in (and as I said, you can nominate someone else if you wish; it doesn't count against your five. Keep nominating! We only got a few more spots left!):

Jorgen von Strangle couldn't get in, despite his girth, because Wanda from the same show has already been nominated at GameFAQs.

Lan, Sakura Avalon, and Henry Wong couldn't get in because they were originally anime characters, and the Anime Division is full.

Garfield and Shadowcat weren't added simply because they're already on the list.

And I know who Olive is. I've seen all those shows that have been nominated. (Except for Love Hina...can anyone fill me in on who Keitaro is? And Antz. I just nominated Z because it's the shortest name for a cartoon character and Dreamworks is underrepresented anyway.)

mr_pikachu

Grrrggh... though I'm ecstatic that Calvin won, we seem to be running out of worthy nominees... this one-per-show limit is tough! And HOW ON EARTH did Tinky Winky make the list?!

Meh, okay. Here are my "replacement" nominees, to replace Garfield, Sakura Avalon, and Lan.

Dilbert; Dilbert (Comic Strip)
Dot; Animaniacs (WB)
Uh... Big Bird; Sesame Street (PBS)

Okay, now THAT was sad. And please note that while there IS a Dilbert TV show, it is based off the comic strip. And it's exactly the opposite with Animaniacs; the comic books are based off the TV show.

Let us all pray for the death of Tinky Winky. :D
