This is a very stupid question. I have played pokemon since RBY came out. Yet I can't seem to understand base stats! Can someone explain them to me? Thanks! ;o

If you're not going to answer the question, why bother replying?

Anyways, base stats are used for determining what your pokemon's current stats are. The base stat is used in a formula, along with your pokemons dv for that stat, and the Effort Value Points for that stat. Plug all these numbers into the formula, and you'll determine what that pokemons stat is. It's not important in-game to know all this, as you can see at any time what your pokemons stat is. Online battling, though, this is somewhat important, although a lot of people don't bother with it all.

Basically, it's just the number programmed into each pokemon, to be used in the formula. Base stats never change, they are always constant for each pokemon.
