Introduction

The land of Elken was a beautiful place. It was occupied with numerous rolling hills and rushing water. People who lived there always agreed. There was never an argument in the land of Elken, thus making them a peaceful community. Elken was covered mostly of trees, rivers, and lakes. The land of Elken was unpolluted; not once had an engine been constructed in the land. People traveled by carriages and by horseback. There were lush gardens and sparkling waters. It was a place yet untouched by any evil.

Railen Raighe was one of the millions of elves to live in Elken. He had a firmly constructed house, which he had assembled by himself, made of clay and straw. Most creatures passing the house would not have suspected that the compact walls were in fact made of clay.

The house stood two stories tall, each floor had a ceiling of twelve feet in height. The floors were eighty feet wide, in both the departments of length and width. Many tables were set up in each room, some glass, others wood, and some even were clay themselves, attached without a space to the floor.

On the first floor there was a kitchen, a dining room, and a bathroom. Also, a long table stretched across the room for guests to sit, eat, and talk at. The dining room table was small, but Railen lived only by himself. The kitchen was full of pots, pans, bowls, plates, silverware, and numerous other dining tools. In the bathroom was a toilet, a sink, a tub, a shower, and even part of a pool that could be dived into in order to get to the large part of the pool, which was outside.

On the second floor, there was a bedroom for Railen, which consisted of different furniture. In his room, there was a bed, the base was made of wood, and the mattress was wool compacted under a thin layer of rubber. There was a rocking chair, a circular table, and a chair. There was also a guest bedroom, which had a bed.

In the house, there were tunnels that led nearly everywhere. A tunnel in Railen’s bedroom led to the bathroom downstairs, and another one led straight from the bedroom as well into an underwater part of the pool. A tunnel in the guest bedroom led into the dining room, into a chair in fact. A tunnel in Railen’s bedroom also led to many other tunnels that led to different parts of the house.

Two Unusual Guests

Railen was drinking a cold glass of milk, just like any other elf. The elves despised coffee and tea. They disliked the way they would stain teeth and give someone an artificial conscious and mood jump, and then slow them down later in the day when the prolonged sleepiness would take over. So they drank milk.

It was a normal day, just like any other day. The moon fell in the west, and the sun rose in the east. Birds were chirping, but just from their natural instincts. They were neither cheerful nor gloomy. They would not care if the devil had taken over and the world was in flames. Nor would it matter if the angels had fallen from above to give peace to all. They would just chirp until noon, when they would fly off and find another place to live.

Railen was sitting in his chair, leaned against the wall, slowly slipping a glass of ice cold milk. He had a muffin in his hand, any every once in a while would lean forward and take a bite of it, which resulted in uncountable crumbs falling on his lap. He was eating his breakfast, like any other day, thinking of what to do for the day. His home was also a hotel, where anyone could stay for a while, for a small fee, and then leave as freely as they came.

Railen was skilled with a bow and arrow, but so was just about any other elf. Most elves were to have magical skills, but he was without any. He had tried time and time again, but he was disabled in magic. This made him different from the average elf.

Another thing that made him stray from his elf heritage was his rare ability of handling a sword. He had never even trained with one before, but the moment he picked one up, he was able to present swift and canny moves with it.

He was pondering about what to do, when he heard a knock on his door. The knock was ordinary, a knock that was in the exact rhythm of a small tune. Railen was surprised, for he hadn’t been expecting any visitors.

He sighed as he stood up from his chair and stretched. He yawned, and then walked over to the door. Before he reached it, a slamming fist was laid on the door, with much more force than the last knock. Railen reached the door and opened it.

The first person he could see was a man, slightly taller than Railen, dressed in a dark blue cloak. He had a long silver glinting beard. He held a thin staff, looking more like a stick. However, it was compact and could not easily be broken.

The staff was a bright blue color, and had several red gems planted on it. It had white stripes in a diagonal motion on it. On the top an orb was attached to the end of the staff. It was secured in place by four pieces that held it in its place.

The other was a reptile creature. It had scaly green skin and a yellow underside. Red lines separated each section of the green skin. It had no wings, but it did have a twelve-foot long tail. It was in fact a dragon.

Suddenly, the dragon opened its mouth wide and let out a tremendous roar. It brought its hands up into the air, its sharp claws suddenly becoming viewable to Railen. Its eyes squeezed shut as the dragon opened its mouth even further.
